written007:hmm.. I get your point. going there to charge phone can lead one to temptation. but what can we do? we see standby generator to power our phones and look away? my area for example has been on blackout since February 2018 |
KevinDein:hmm... It's a spell sort of. Unless one is assured of a bright future, one always goes back to it after a little period of fighting it |
Uka15:hmm. we can chat up here. my WhatsApp phone is faulty |
@uka15 i can't access my mail. So i am quoting you on a dead thread. You can reply me here |
WaywardSon:hmm..i can relate with that your friend. Betting pushed me out of school. I would have loved your idea of using only a fraction of one's pay to gamble. But how do i do that when i know i am indebted to people, and only a quick fix can help out |
Oluwatosean:gambling also gives some form of joy at times. There are times when people win |
amakagrace123:i admire your level of self-control |
I expect to see bet9ja founder in top 20 soon |
Most times, my daily routine will be to go to a bet9ja shop as early 8am and stay there till evening. I lose self esteem and pride and join incoherent and unparochial discussions with young boys. People younger than me, that should have seen me as a mentor. I have a penchant for standing behind those gambling to beg them for something when they win. Boys even 10 years younger than me don't regard me as any thing again. In fact, i envy their life. They are composed, well-dressed and disciplined in betting. You will even find me begging biscuit, bons or any other food from those eating at bet shops. That is the miserable life betting has reduced me into with little or no dreams |
Since my mum travelled, eating for me and my siblings became hard. I had to speak with my dad who we were not in good terms with to send something. He managed to squeeze out 5k for us. I was so sure i will use it to buy foodstuff until i foolishly went to a bet9ja shop to charge my phone. While charging, i began to watch 'the screen.' i noticed that the gleefulness of punters that day was high. They were winning. All guesses as i watch the screen were working. So i felt it was my lucky day. I tried 150, it nearly entered. Tried 200 (safe game of 2 odd) to recover the 150. That was how one kept 'cutting' until i lost it all. Then the shock of what i did dawned on me. The spirit of gambling is strong. Do you know any time money comes to my mind (i see it as bet9ja money), i only see it as game money. Despite not having a girl friend, good clothes, toiletries, amongst other things. My shoe badly needs mending, i barely shave, bathe or brush regularly. My hair is bushy, my boxers and clothes torn, lack of proper medication etc. Do i care? |
Of all the addiction i encountered, like betting, daily consumption of sugary food, masturbation etc, betting [virtual in bet9ja] is the one that has made me miserable the most. The most painful truth is that there is no cure to this problem. In the past, i talked about how the act made me sell all i had and also borrowed and begged money to invest in its imaginary profit. When one is broke, one quickly changes and promises not to play again. But once money comes, the will to play becomes stronger than anything. If you look at my current condition, you will pity me |
Some times i wonder where i got it all wrong. I was once primed for greatness. My comprehension skills used to be topnotch. I used to have an instintive and intuitive ability to tackle questions. I also had leadership qualities in the office, in church, in school and other places. My secondary school literature teacher then would call me an orator in the making. Things changed within a twinkle of an eye. I have lost my sense of reasoning (literary speaking). I reason like a brat with no control ever since i was introduced to bet9ja. I will let you in on its consequences on my life |
Overrated brat |
Bonatheripper:i don't want to suffer. Not strong for that. I need petting and constructive criticism |
Lamanii22:mainly mentorship and Providence |
melodynk01:loud it. i really need a new good-paying legit business to change my focus |
luiscarter:it's just a name |
I'm going through pains at the moment. on the outside, it will appear that I'm recalcitrant, non challant and a problem child. but I believe there is a little good in me that can be utilised. passing through a lot of addictions at the moment which is killing my God-given talent. I can't plan for the future despite being sound and having a dove heart. financial burden and health challenges weighing me down. Mum and dad have tried and tried to change me before retirement but I didn't listen on time before they retired. country looking bad and there is little or no space for second chance for people like me. how I wish some one can be my mentor and set me up.... |
chenzen:I am different from him. mine is just to wail. check my previous threads |
iLegendd:hmmmmm |
iLegendd:bro, is the deal still on? I have worked on the phone |
revenge001:yea. But when life is on, there is hope for a change. Thank God i am not useless as a grown man with children. Still young. Hopefully, more criticism [from me, you and others] can help me buckle up. Oyibo call am 'constructive criticism.' |
ireneony:just a fan/a*slicker here ![]() |
ireneony:who am i seeing? It's been long o |
Gofwane:hmm.. My guy it's easier said than done. Our needs are numerous and the economy bad. Gambling is our only hope of making it big |
I remember one time i stayed with someone not related to me. It wasn't funny at all. I had little or no source of getting money. He was always not around and so the pot was mostly empty. My mum was generous enough to send down soup and stew to me from where she was. I messed up during my time with the philantropist sha. This is someone that could have linked me up to get a good job. I carried out some clandestine acts in his house i always denied. I remember seldomly using his groceries and properties as collateral to collect money to gamble. I once used one of his expensive belts, a lap of chicken [you heard me right], umbrella, his babe's chain etc. The chain was the last straw that broke the camel's back. Last last, na mumsi pay. I do feel remorseful at times though. I'm human. I will try to always wash plates and run errands for mum as my sign of gratitude since there is no sign i will make money to take care of her |
I wonder what would have become of me if my mum had died. I may have become restless, gone out to steal to continue betting and may be get lynched or arrested. Those no longer under their parents, i wonder how they cope once bet9ja virtual drains them. I had just 300 naira today i should have used to buy bread and pepsi yet squandered it on games. I got home and luckily, eba and groundnut soup was already served, awaiting me. I will let you in on what my mum does to make things okay....... |
deedondavi:no one died. Just old habit hard to change. Punting is a cankerworm eating into the lives of youths now |
0KNM:in every nonsense, there is some sense. You can use me as an example when advising the younger generations |
My 'only consolation' is that there are a lot of gamblers worse than me when you go to betting shops. Their bad stories give me hope. I pity any one who has a brother or father or uncle or son who wants to take to gambling. You better run or warn them or you will feel the repercussions. Like me, i can't step into Edo State till further notice because of the toes i stepped on |
my case i never thought gambling could get into me until i encountered bet9ja virtual. It's like a virus as strong as 'spiritual manipulation.' since i started, i hardly get a grip of myself till i lose it all. It has made me dubious as well. I remember gambling away 19k i was asked to deposit in the bank by my principal/employer. I lied that i misplaced the money. In the same school i worked before, i fled after squandering money paid to me for extra lesson, graduation party, some textbooks and even cooperative money. Gambling sha. It alters one's focus, makes one desperate, lose touch with reality, wayward, lose passion for working, broke etc |
my dad i used to despise my dad for causing misery to my mum. For years, while growing up, i watched him drain his finance and that of my mum playing coupon [pool] and Lotto. He was good at tricking people to lend him in order to continue the act. As an influential member of his village, he was part of those selected to plan for the establishment of a fertilizer plant in the village by Dangote. He fled with a huge chunk of the money. As a big society man, he got his friends to lend him money running into millions. He duped a retired military man, widows and a host of other people. He is currently on the run as he dares not step into Delta State again |
