The state governments have to think about keep the roads clean by buying at least 4 of these types of vehicles for every city. Everyday, you send off the environmental team to go sweep some major roads and plant flowers and trees. If they did it for one year, the whole city will look beautiful and clean. Some SE states have NEVER swept the streets from 1800!

Beirut looked exactly like Awada layout with good paved roads on every street with running water and electricity not an issue. I suddenly realized that it wouldn't take much to transform Nigeria to a liveable space for everyone to be decently accommodated in those 4-5 storey buildings.

We just have to get serious with getting street paved and cleared of trash, water supplied for residents on the building and working on renewable electricity sources.

Onitsha is seriously growing. I feel a strong sense of pride whenever I am in Onitsha, I am also helping to add to the skyline, I am building this new one for a client in Onitsha.

By the way, i used to dislike these types of buildings until i visited Jerusalem and decided to also visit family in Beirut with my friend on that visit. If you visit Beirut, you will see how Onitsha could transform to the best city if they seriously thought about making water available in these buildings and using renewable electricity such as solar panels and inverters to augument electricity from the grid. Mind you, almost every flat in Beirut where i visited had air-conditioning unit for their flat!

Now i am a full supporter of the 4-5 storey buildings because it is the ONLY way to help people have decent apartments in a land scarce city. We just have to work on how to keep the streets paved and cultivate a culture of sinking boreholes for every house or atleast one borehole serving the houses on every street to guarantee constant water supply to residents. Spyder, that is why i love you hanging the 500 gallons tank ontop of that building. We just have to figure a way to make homes have running water and electricity independent of government input in Nigeria.

I just saw the type of road being constructed by Dave Umahi in Ebonyi state, concrete road to be topped with asphalt. Is this not what our governors should be doing here too. Ugwuanyi should please explore this alternative to the current roads being built in Enugu state.
This road is at Okposi junctio, Ebonyi state.

Concrete roads helped America develop very high quality highway systems that didn't require any maintenance for decades and remained smooth like the first day they were built. They started building concrete roads in 1800s and have never stopped. Those raods are still in very good condition today.

If the Ebonyi had promoted efforts to resuscitate NigerCem Nkalagu, it would have been use our resources to develop the state.Ebonyi already has the finest quarries that will supply the stones for these projects. But importing cement from outside of Ebonyi to do concrete roads without backward integration into your economy may not be very wise. You are just enriching those who want to impoverish you further. Although concrete roads are the way to getting our roads in good condition for extended periods of time. Especially in a country with poor maintenance culture like Nigeria.

Enugu is developing faster than an Usain Bolt on an anabolic-androgen steroid!

Although many of our people are still fixated on developing other parts of Nigeria especially Lagos, Abuja than their own states or communities. For the first time since i came to America, i have heard Igbo people talk about owning something in their own states or key urban centers at Enugu, Onitsha,Owerri, Aba. Even cities as Awka, Asaba, Abakaliki, Umuahia, Okigwe,Nsukka,Nnewi,Orlu etc have been coming up in conversation where people want to invest.

This new attitude has shocked me because the average Igboman a few years ago will boast about being born in Maiduguri and has 20 buildings there and married his first daughter to a Kanuri chief.

I think finally, the scales are falling off our eyes to see Nigeria as it is, not what we wish it should be, so that we can reason properly.

1. No state can lay any claim of having or in the process of developing a basic industry
. :.... Iron and steel
:.......aluminum
:........silicon water foundry
:.......polymers
:........petroleum refinery complex ( what I mean is examplified along the st. Charles -Beaumont-Texas cty-lake Jackson axis)

2. No state has a home grown medical complex with branches all over the state that can treat 90% of diseases in the state.

3. No state can boast of food processing industries ...beyond buying and selling.
4. No state can boast of making any pharma API.
5. No state can boast of any design center or cluster for industrial products.
5. No state can boast of any machining industry
6. No state can boast of providing clean water to all their citizens.
7 No state provides free quality education for their indigenes.

Providing pancakes to cover the uglines does not solve the problem..

What to do..

1. Examine everything you have in your state and leverage upon it.

In the case of Enugu

Coal
Clay
Iron ore.
Limestone.

If you have a smart government that can leverage on just 2 of the above mentioned minerals..Enugu your state will be the Pittsburgh or chengdu of Nigeria.

You are the ONLY Nigerian that does not know the 1999 constitution BANS state government or anyone to develop natural resources?
It is the exclusive prerogative of the Federal Government and they can play any politics they like with it. At the detriment of the Nigerian economy. Why do you think folks are seriously asking for restructuring of the country? Why do you think everyone wants the evil 1999 military constitution dropped and we return to our 1960 or 1963 republican constitution agreed upon as the basis for our independence? So that each state or region can develop whatever resources they have and use it to develop themselves rather than waiting forever for FG to do it and they will NEVER do it due to political bigotry of the type of leaders Nigeria produces.

I agree those with the funds should start building medium high rise structures instead of always build bungalows.

All those bungalows along Ogui road and Okpara avenue need to be sold to entrepreneurs who will replace them with medium high rise as in the picture. They can just limit it to a maximum of 4-6 floors to make available parking space enough.

....and they don't need to make these buildings just for offices. They can make spaces for supermarkets, banks, small shops / furniture shops and other private companies that may want to hire. Even some people can hire some floors as their hotel or some high end restaurants. The buildings must not all be for offices.

We need a national recognition before we start talking of international recognition. You need more than just few good roads, clean and green streets as well as few residential estates to be recognized. I just returned from Dubai last week and i saw what the whole noise about that city is all about. Even Lagos and Abuja cannot smell 5% of what Dubai has been able to achieve let alone cities like Enugu. Let's sthink of displacing Calabar and Port-hacourt first before we think national and international. The truth is that, it's mostly Igbo people who have good things to say about Enugu. You rarely hear a Non Igbo saying potiive things about Enugu because they either haven't been there or it's not really worth talking about. Atleast we hear Calabar and Uyo all over the place and we should ask ourselves, why Uyo? Why not Enugu?

It's very simple. Enugu has refused to revolutionized like Uyo or Calabar. Yes, we have one of the most livable cities in Nigeria, but what do we have that others don't? We need to start thinking really big.

What you have said will make more sense if Nigeria were restructured. Under the present arrangement, Enugu will NEVER get any so called recognition. It is up to you and I to invest in Enugu and use facilities in the place. Nigeria is a toxic and incurably tribalistic geographic expression. You could never seriously expect such an entity to do anything positive to get Enugu the recognition it deserves on any level whatsoever. That is why those Igbos killing themselves to invest in Funtua, kano or Daura while they have no hut in their villages and continue to neglect their own state capitals or towns closer to their villages, should enjoy whatever comes to them eventually due to their folly.

I also don't think that for Enugu to reach it's potential, it involves displacement of anyone (Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, Calabar or Onitsha). It is part of primitive Nigerian mentality to think about struggling for a smaller cake instead of baking a bigger cake so everyone will grow and be happy. If economy of Nigeria grows through activities in Enugu or Kano or Jos, it does not mean that Lagos or Calabar or Abuja will be less for it.

I think what Gov Ugwuanyi is doing is commendable: taking infrastructural development to the rural areas to boost local economies.

If everyone should leave their local communities to live in Enugu urban, then there will population explosion.

I remember that Enugu APGA criticized Sullivan at a time for focusing development in Enugu capital.

If people’s villages have social amenities, they will create jobs for themselves, that way, there won't be population explosion in the urban centers

I don't think there is anything wrong with developing the villages. Having said that, i will tell you the risk of that approach.
The problem is that Enugu state is one of the states with the lowest financial resources in Nigeria. Just look at the national budgets of all states from 2000 to 2018. Enugu is among the last 5. Some of the investments we are seeing in Enugu today are because of Gov Chime's foresight to drastically improve the ambiance of Enugu to compete among the choice investment destinations in Nigeria with Abuja and Lagos.
Let me tell you, it was a very very smart move. I know many people here in the diaspora that now see Enugu as an alternative destination than the usual Lagos and Abuja mentality for investment among Diasporas. The state government must help facilitate communities to organize and embark on self help projects. The state government might be able to assist by coordinating communal efforts to achieve the stated goals in electrification, schools or health centers, community markets or roads.

I am glad Governor Ugwuanyi has continued in Chime's foot-steps to bring Enugu to international city standard and also just added Nsukka to the list. Creating two or three standard major cities in Enugu state is not only desirable, but the best thing to do for the state. It will be a gradual process to develop enough economic activities in these places to boost IGR for the state government. But, spreading the current resources too thin to develop every village at the same time will achieve nothing.

Therefore, spending in Enugu state must be very very smart. It makes every sense to try to build up and position Enugu city as the choice destination for investors into the South East and even Southsouth. If more investments are available, you can have more jobs and internally generated revenue to help improve finances of the state to develop the rural areas more. If you are not smart in how you spend to help create an attractive Enugu for investors to troop in, you will perpetually be living in penury sharing your inadequate resources to reach every village and a little for Enugu city which will end up not being enough for either the villages to develop nor for Enugu city to be a choice destination.

I laugh at eediots like you that think a war in Nigeria will be a straightforward affair. The ONLY reason there has been no war in Nigeria is that many people believe that Nigeria as one country is still an advantage for every region than broken up into smaller countries. Thus the decision to fix Nigeria rather than support groups calling for outright breakup of the entity.

I believe Nigeria has certain advantages as one country than having smaller countries emerge from Nigeria. That is why it is better to vote out bigots ruling Nigeria now and threatening her survival through their herdsmen agenda, and fix the country than begin an insurgency. The insurgency will finally lead to a full scale open war against the invaders of Nigeria which Nigeria will never survive.

I have always expressed my fear for the people of southern Nigeria because they are mostly christians . I asked why negotiations worked with Buhari (Muslim+North) and not with GEJ (Christian+south).Now you can see that almost all security agencies are manned by the North, Bokoharam is of the North, Abduction done in the North, Negotiations are done by the North.

I also ask what are the terms of this negotiation ? What would the government offer a group that believes the entire North and Nigeria should be terrorized into submission to their religion . The group that is ready to kill muslims if they don’t support attack on christians .
It has now become clear that there are 2 factions of bokoharam. One led by shekau , that believes all christians should be attacked along with muslims that have not given full support.

The second is the one led by Al-Barnawi who believes its only christians that should be attacked and not muslims .

Now you can guess the side that is negotiating and cooperating with Buhari. The side of al-barnawi, because you always see shekau appear in videos each time the federal government finishes their discussion with al-barnawi group and claims bokoharam is over.
Now, buhari has a good working relationship and understanding with the part that only wants christians attacked. What then could he promise them in exchange for peaceful elections ? We all know he must give them more than money and release of prisoners. There must be something more sacrificial than that. You can keep guessing till you find out .

Now they abducted Dabchi girls, treated them nice according to the girls. The federal government once again negotiated with the group they are familiar with. Agreed to whatever conditions and the rest of the girls were released, while the only christian girl was held back.
Just like the president claimed ignorant of the fact that the IG of police disobeyed his orders in benue, he will also claim ignorant of the fact that bokoharam would hold back the christian girl .

We all know that before there is an agreement in a negotiation, the terms and conditions must be clear to both parties. This means the FG negotiation board, knew and agreed to the terms that the muslim girls will be released and the christian girl held back. This is in agreement and believe of the other faction of bokoharam.
While osibanjo is out there telling the world how much GEJ stole and what it would have been used for, a more serious religious negotiation is taking place behind his back with terrorists. He will be there shouting goodluck jonathan and the full impact of these negotiations will catch up with him .

I urge every christian not to see this dabchi release situation as a coincidence, rather as a symbolical event. This means that they have conquered the christians and we have to bow to them . Its not just about the christian girl that is held back for not denouncing her faith, it’s a sign of an attempt to subdue the christian faith in Nigeria.

Raise your voices, mount pressure for the release of that that girl and most importantly get your voters card ready. We have to vote out a president that surrounds himself with people of same faith in key positions, negotiates with terrorists and agrees to conditions that aims at subduing christianity . If we don’t do this, after 2019, we as Christians will begin to see the second phase of the agreement with bokoharam. And then the tables and attack will be turned to us. A stitch in time they say, saves nine.

Funny thing is that APC has deployed an army of deceivers to keep telling people there is no need to vote and that their votes will not count.
Anyone who listens to their agents and fail to register, vote and defend your vote should not complain when Buhari begins implementation of their wicked agenda after 2019. I hope then they will be ready to pick up a gun and fight for freedom.

Bottom line, it is easier to vote than pick up a gun later because you refused to vote.

Please don't mind that boy. I hate when people think if they can't afford N100,000, then anybody who can is a thief. In other words, they are the epitome of human success or the best paid people that anyone better than them is a thief or something.

Anyway, Oga m is this number still working 080333 50850. Seems you don't use it regularly. I need us to talk urgently about getting one of those your lands and building something like that your 8 flats in Onitsha. If they won't allow me to do that type of house at your site, can we discuss alternative areas of Enugu and Awka for land?

The sad part of these useless tales they invent is that the FAAN and Federal Govt. have no desire whatsoever to develop Akanu Ibiam into a true international airport. Apart from Lagos and Abuja, their drive now is to develop Kano and Kaduna as hubs. Unfortunately Kaduna does not have what it takes to support a true international airport and being only 2 hours from Abuja on road, Abuja will always be a preferred airport to Kaduna.

All the tales these FG officials are talking about plans to demolish everything in Enugu, yet they have not talked about building a mere taxi way or even install Instrument landing system (ILS) to enable the airport take night flights. Mind you northern airports all have ILS, yet they are just seasonal airports for Hajj. If Stella Odua had not paid 100% of the cost of Enugu terminal before she left office, they would have done what they did to second Niger bridge to that terminal project.

The FG should concession AIIA, Enugu so that a private developer will take over and develop the airport. We know their deceit of playing to the gallery, demanding what should be demolished and hoping they will be impossible demands that will buy them time and yet nothing will be done to develop the airport on the FG side at the end of the day. After they demolish that mast and Eke oye market, they will still ask for more buildings more than 3 storeys to be demolished in Emene, yet they won't install any facilities nor complete the taxiway to look like other international airports in Nigeria.

Truly don't mind demolishing anything that is in the path of the runway or taxiway to make the airport completely safe for foreign international airlines to operate day or night. International standards need to be enforced in the closest permissible distance to a runway or taxiway. Also, the airport need to be fenced south of ekulo river to make it safe for any international dignitary or any type of cargo freights so that the standard of security at the airport is at par with any international airport in the world.

My ONLY problem is that the Minister for transport was concentrating too much on external obstacles without mentioning the internal obstacles too. Some people will always test the government's will to enforce safety standards by building where they are not supposed to build. Like the new private house just built in the picture. Those should be demolished at once without compensation.

As for the Orie-Market, i think they can do a phased relocation to a new site. They can immediately relocate the abattoir and ban sale of meat in the market to discourage vultures from coming to the market and then do the final relocation in a year or so.

Likewise, the airforce classrooms or whatever that was built where the taxiway should pass must also be demolished.

We know Buhari lied about IGP being told to go to Benue. They thought Fulanis will massacre the villagers to justify taking Benue lands and giving to Fulanis under "Grazing policy" without the villagers fighting back. Unfortunately when the villagers fought back the invaders, Buhari and his IGP went there to stop the villagers from taking the fight to Fulani invaders.

Now he wants to blame the IGP for not going there when Fulanis first invaded. We already know the Police and army are never there when it's fulanis killing others. Once the people resist and fight back the invaders, you suddenly see Nigerian army and police everywhere to protect the cows.

The South East Governors Forum after an extensive meeting in Enugu today resolved to undertake the construction of Ring road that would connect all the states of the zone, covering 430 kilometers, to promote economic development and integration as well as ease of transportation in the region.

In a communique read by the Chairman of the Forum and Governor of Ebonyi State, Engr. David Umahi, who was accompanied by Governors Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu), Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia) and Deputy Governor of Imo State, Prince Eze Madumere, the body expressed deep appreciation to the governors and the people of the South East zone for "the way they worked together to give the former Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency, Dr. Alex Ekwueme a befitting burial and enjoined them to continue in such spirit to move the South East States forward ".

The Forum also commended "very highly" Gov. Ugwuanyi for all the activities that took place in Enugu State during the funeral programmes and equally appreciated his counterpart from Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano for the events that happened in his state as well as the contributions of other governors of the zone.

Engr. Umahi said that the Forum took presentation for Gas Pipelines in the region and advised the Consultants to follow up on details of implementation especially as it relates to right of way, adding that it commended the presentation by Prof. Bart Nnaji on Aba Independent Power Project and asked him to liaise with its secretariat for further implementation with the Presidency.

The Forum's Chairman disclosed that the governors intervened on the crisis rocking the South East Traditional Rulers' Council and directed that the five State Chairmen of the Council be invited for amicable resolution of their issues in the next meeting of the Forum.

Other outcomes of the meeting were presentations on several issues, especially, from National Addressing System of Nigeria and the Bureau of Public Service Reforms (BPSR) on assessment of MDAs for effective performance.

The Chairman noted that a private business enterprise presented a Lottery business proposal in the zone to the Forum, with the body requesting the presenter to reach out to various states for further deliberation.

It is a mark of the SE Governors lack of vision to be talking about ring "roads" intead of talking about ring "RAILWAY LINES".

What difference would another two lane road connecting Onitsha to Nsukka or Enugu to Owerri make? They need to work on building standard rail gauge to connect the entire region to the Onne Port. In that way, exporters and importers can import through ONNE and rail their goods to whatever town where they are located at very cheap prices.

The SE Governors only need to seek permission for the project since Nigerian constitution puts railway in exclusive list.

ENUGU DIAGNOSTIC CENTER NEARING COMPLETION

Great to see this fantastic project finally come to fruition.

This lab should be equipped to handle diagnosis of diseases not just in Enugu, but the entire SE and SS region. There is a serious lack of proper laboratory facilities to diagnose cancer cells, rare viruses as Ebola or Zika as well as diagnose lukemias early.

Enugu state government should immediately seek international partnership with World Health Organization (WHO) and assistance of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in the United States of America to help in equiping this laboratory to a global standard to diagnose diseases for the region and beyond. This is exactly what WHO has been doing for so many countries requesting assistance in serving as a regional laboratory system for early diagnosis and detection of diseases.

Point of correction, Buhari administration DID NOT ENLONGATE THE RUNWAY, IT WAS DONE BY JONATHAN AND BUHARI STOPPED THE COMPLETION OF THE TAXIWAY TO REACH 3 KM as a standard international airport which was already awarded by Stella Odua. Instead they built an air force bungalow and helipad exactly on the path of the taxiways to completely kill the prospect of having a taxiways on the airport.

Soon. They will ask for entire Enugu to be demolished so they can provide facilities already in other airports. They should first demolish the airforce bungalow on the taxiway path, and relocate the fuel talks to the rear of the airport and anything built on the path of the taxiway.

BUHARI and his bunch of tribalists should please concession the airport to private investors. It is obvious to even a blind man that they will not develop it and are desperately looking for silly excuses to close it down.

They should tell us why Akanu Ibiam international is the ONLY international airport in Nigeria WITHOUT a Taxiway and WHEN they hope to correct that anomaly. They are instead erecting all sorts of obstacles close to the main landing runway so that they can cause an accident and gladly close down the airport for a very long time. If not, why would they be building all these useless Nigerian air-force classroom buildings so close to the runway of an international airport receiving large body aircrafts? Is that spot the only space in the entire airport to build a classroom? Who instructed the airforce commander in Enugu to build a classroom right on the runway of a civilian airport? Why can't they go and build their own airforce base somewhere and build structures on the runway? In Kano and kaduna, the airforce built their own runway. Why not build a second runway in Enugu for the airforce?

I am all for safety and what will bring the desired growth of the airport. Therefore, these pretentious tribalists should first fix the internal issues they have created out of their toxic politics against the airport before focusing on external people building too close to the airport runway or taxiway. They have put all sorts of obstacles along the taxiway of the airport to make it nearly impossible to build a proper taxiway there. Infact some buildings built by the airforce are so dangerously close to the main landing runway as in the picture below a little cross-breeze that shifts the plane on landing will result in a catastrophe. A Boeing 747 wings will definitely smash into that building upon landing. So why should the structure be there? To prevent Akanu Ibiam international airport from ever receiving bigger planes?

So fix the internal obstacles along the taxiway and then go to the external factors. Stop putting the cart before the horse. It exposes their insincerity and hypocrisy.

We need an innovative water system to provide water in our cities and villages.
The past methods of building mighty water works systems to provide water to entire cities or Greater Onitsha water scheme to provide regional water supply has failed because the concept was too complicated and our management system based on government was guaranteed to fail.

In the United States small communities or towns often come together to provide their own potable water system. This is a simple system whereby the community sinks a proper bore-hole at a designated place and pumps the water into an overhead storage tank. The water then flows by gravity from the tank into the various homes in that community. This is a simple technology that will work very well in our environment where people understand the need for self help projects. And no need for too much government intervention to provide their own constant portable water supply.

Concrete water tanks as in the picture may be easier for our bricklayers and plumbers to construct with local technology.

This simple system can solve the potable water issue in many cities and villages. There is no need to build mighty water works systems that are too expensive and too complicated for local manpower to maintain. Instead let landlords’ association be organized by government and 200-500 building in each neighborhood will come together and sink their own borehole and set up the overhead tank. The water from the tank is then piped to the various buildings who are members of that project. When about 200-500 3 or 4 storey building can come together to share the cost of sinking a proper deep borehole in a central location and pipe the water to the homes which are part of the project, the cost of the project per family may be as little as mere N2,000 naira to raise about N10 million naira for the project! A city like Onitsha can have about 10-20 of these neighborhood water systems, while Awka and Nnewi can have about 5 each.

Many towns and villages looking for what to do with the N20 million naira allocated by Anambra state government for community projects should stop building multiple useless civic centers that impact very little on the lives of everyone in the community. They should ask for this project and water piped to all compounds in their community. That way, everyone in the entire village can have at least one water pump inside their compound.

Then, a system to place water meters in front of each compound to measure their water use for billing purposes is implemented with help of state government. This neighborhood water systems will create employment, while also ensuring the constant supply of portable water at affordable prices for all. Not to mention of the fact that it will stop spread of water borne diseases.

I hope the Anambra state governor immediately put machinery in place as well as engage philanthropists and Landlords associations to begin choosing appropriate sites in each neighborhood to implement a neighborhood water supply system co-managed by that state and the landlords association in each neighborhood and every community in the state
