Buhari’s media group attacks Obasanjo over $16bn power project

The President Muhammadu Buhari Media Organization (BMO) has cautioned the former President, Olusegun Obasanjo, to stay away with unnecessary explanations on his failure to deliver power which $16 billion was claimed to had been spent on.

It said that since the former president could to produce proof agaist the allegation, there was no need for Obasanjo to justify how the $16 billion was move away from Nigerian economy with pretext of power projects in Nigeria?

Advising the former president through a statement issued on Friday in Abuja, it noted that the lengthy communication of Obasanjo still failed to address the salient point and that evident needed was not that of article.

it said: “Nigerians may be many things, but they are not fools. They would definitely have been able to tell if the $16 billion allocated to power projects was actually expended as proposed.

“Even the poorest mathematicians among us would have been able to calculate the disbursement of that amount in the increased number of hours per day their light bulbs, television sets and refrigerators stayed on, and in the decreased hours their generators stayed on.

PoliticsRe: Anambra Lawmakers Urges FG To Pay ₦43.5B Debt To Anambra State Govt by ChimaAdeoye: 12:58am On May 26, 2018
anambrang:
The State House of Assembly has passed a resolution urging the Federal Govt to reimburse the State Government the sum of forty three point five billion naira (₦43.5b) being the the total amount expended on the rehabilitation, maintenance and reconstruction of federal roads in the state.

The motion was moved by the member representing Anambra East Constituency, Hon. Pharm.Chris Obinna Emeneka during plenary in Awka.

On his part, the member representing Njikoka Two Constituency, Dr.Pete Ibida appealed to the Federal Government to pay back Anambra State Government the money as non reimbursement of the fund has adversely affected the economy of the state.

Well, it is right to at least officially address the issue so that nobody will say they didn't know about the amount owed the state.

Thanks bro. Massive road projects are presently ongoing in Awka and environ. More big roads like the below will be awarded in a couple weeks in Awka and Onitsha. Also the government has finalised arrangements to flag off the Revenue Junction inter-change. Road leading to Nnewi mall has been marked for expansion. More cabs will be floated soon to cushion the effect. .
It will be nice for them to allow flower planting to go hand in hand with road expansion.
The planting of trees to improve the environment there, are just as important as building those roads.

Okorocha enters the next stage in urban renewal after completion of over 20km of 10 lane expressways through Owerri city. Other States will have a lot of catch up to do in the coming years as grassing and tree planting has taken over the highways. This is not Abuja or New Owerri but old Owerri which had illegal structures demolished and major roads expanded. Presently Douglas Road and Wetheral Road are receiving the magic touch.
One thing you cannot take away from Rochas Okorocha is that he has TASTE!

See how he is decorating the entire road with trees. Soon Owerri will rival Abuja as city with best tree lined roads.

Most of our Governors don't even know that road construction should end with landscaping of the environment to improve the ambiance. We must commend Rochas for ALWAYS doing proper finishing with planting flowers and trees.

Even his statues which i disagreed with, he still took time to plant palm trees and grass around the whole place to improve the ambiance of the entire Heroes Square. Many Governors simply cannot build anything beautiful.

The people we are dealing with will not stop, until they know you will defend yourselves.

That is why they are using their IGP to try and disarm people completely so that they will have a field day killing innocent people without any type of opposition. People should learn and hide whatever you require for self defence buried somewhere outside your house. In case they come to search your house before the herdsmen strike. PoliticsRe: Obiano Gives Quit Notice To Okada Riders In Onitsha, Awka by ChimaAdeoye: 1:11pm On May 23, 2018
anambraeyes:
The Chief Press Secretary to Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State, Mr James Eze, released a press statement after the state exco today, disclosing the state plan to ban Okada riders in two major cities.

Read below

Commercial motorbike (Okada) operators in Onitsha and Awka, the capital city of Anambra State have been given until July 1, 2018 to change to another trade or vacate the two cities for good.

This is one of the many resolutions from the meeting of the Anambra State Executive Council today, Tuesday, May 22, 2018. The ultimatum given to Okada operators in the two cities is part of the overall strategy adopted by the state government to deepen its crackdown on crime and restore sanity to Onitsha and Awka.

Similarly, residents of some make-shift structures on the banks of the River Niger stretching from Onitsha to Ogbaru have also been given until August 1, 2018 to relocate from those places along the waterfront as they have been marked for demolition. This is also a part of the campaign against the men of the underworld in the state.

The deadlines given to Okada operators and the shanty-dwellers are intended to offer them enough time to make the necessary adjustments in order to fit into the emerging socio-cultural scenario in the state.

Other far ranging resolutions of the Council include the establishment of a Committee on Environment with a mandate to clean up Anambra State, clearing out garbage dumps and overflowing drainages and demolishing illegal structures that are either obstructing the way or ruining the aesthetics of the Anambra environment. The committee is expected to sustain the on-going campaign to put an end to roadside trading that often leads to avoidable traffic congestion and return sanity to the roads and highways of Anambra State.

Re-inforcing the hard line posture of his administration against street-trading and erection of illegal structures across the state, Governor Willie Obiano specifically commended the agencies behind the on-going demolition exercise in the state, urging them to sustain the momentum until the state begins to wear a better look. He also sent a note of warning to owners of illegal structures along the famous Awka Road in Onitsha, saying that very soon the demolition team would sweep through the area.

He frowned at the current practice by Awka residents who sometimes dump their waste bins right in the middle of Zik Avenue and warned that anyone caught doing that would pay a heavy penalty.

The governor further announced that important public places like the Prof Dora Akunyili Women Development Centre, Alex Ekwueme Square and the vast premises of the Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS) would soon be given a facelift and properly remodelled to fit into the dynamics of the day.

According to him, the Amphitheatre of the Dora Akunyili Women Development Centre would be redesigned to serve as a stadium and completed as soon as possible.

The governor also frowned at the spate of daring encroachment on government land in the state by speculators and warned that there would be severe consequences for anyone who wanted to flagrantly break the law.

What you said is okay. But MOTORCYCLES are not a means of public transportation anywhere on earth except Nigeria.

We should not allow an illegal thing to continue just because it was allowed for a long time under terribly corrupt military rule era.

Anambra government did right for her citizens by banning this primitive mode of transportation. Every other progressive state in Nigeria and including northern Nigeria states have already banned Okada in their capital and major cities. It is wrong and it is retrogressive to endanger the lives of your citizens like that for too long. Not to mention the security risk posed by okada use in abetting crime in these cities.

We have a group of people that will kill you all if you do not defend yourselves. But if you do and some of their own people also die while trying to kill you, they will naturally stop the practice.

Appealing to them and their President to have a change of heart is meaningless unless you fight back.

As private citizens build these by the hundreds in Anambra, you now want the government to come in and join them? So that the government will be collecting rent, fixing toilets, and settling renters disputes? How many new staff and resources will have to be thrown into government managed apartments which our already inflated governments?

Awada is almost 90% multistory apartments, why should the government come and add it's own? Those projects in India and China lead to the development of slums.
Oga,
Please learn to read rather than jumping to conclusions just after the headline.

Nobody asked government to build anything. Not even a bungalow. All government needs to do is to map out the area to ensure the location is along a major road to forestall traffic. They will also ensure the estate is planned so that a repeat of Awada isn't the result when people are left to build randomly. In other countries where high density areas are planned, it doesn't look like ghettos the way it looks in Nigeria due to lack of adequate planning.

After he was received at the State's Border at Amansea by the State Commissioner for Road Infrastructure, Furniture and Maintenance, Mr Marcel Ifejiofor, the Minister proceeded to inspect work on the 1.59 kilometer second Niger Bridge.
During the visit, it was observed that piling work has been done 15 percent from the Delta end while pile cases to be used for reinforcing the foundation of the bridge, had started arriving.
What is most annoying about this bridge is how it is potrayed as something being done for Anambra.

Delta state is also benefiting if you look at it. So why is it skewed to appear as Anambra, we are building bridge for una??
PoliticsRe: Update on developments in Anambra state-photos by ChimaAdeoye:
Obiano must devise strategic means of solving the housing shortage problem through launching new multi-story housing layouts

Anambra state government must as a matter of urgency open up at least three or four new layouts for high density multi-storey apartment housing estates such as Awada in the three major cities of the state.

Two in Onitsha perhaps one around Nkwelle Ezunaka and another in Oba.
One in Awka and one in Nnewi.

Anambra must seriously think about solving the acute shortage of accommodation with encouraging the building of multi-storey apartments. That is how countries like China and India managed to house everyone decently. The craze for duplexes is not sustainable due to scarcity of land. We cannot afford to have everybody living in duplexes. There just isn't enough land for that type of housing in the long haul.

Government will regulate the types of houses in this new estate and ensure there is provision for amenities and adequate parking. The best system is to use the ground floor for residents parking as in the picture, That way, people can still live comfortably in these flats. We should move away from making multistorey buildings without provision for residents parking space.

Today, i realized how confused our leaders were in the Nnewi mall where parking lot above a shopping mall where people will always visit. Instead of putting the parking under the mall, so that the less heavy building is on top, while the heavier parking lot with lots of vehicles are below the building.

Sometimes, i ask God why oyinbo man is a lot smarter than the black man? Our engineers reason no better than roadside mechanics. If they calculated the relative weight, they would have advised the state government properly on the folly of building suspended parking lots in the air above an Nnewi mall. Things of simple common sense such as these are too difficult for us to understand. Now they can't finish the building because the amount of concrete it would take to have a suspended parking lot in the air is outrageous for the state to afford. Not to mention that such structure will naturally collapse on a busy day when the entire parking space is filled to the brim with parked cars. The overbearing weight of cars, the poor Dangote concrete type and the cheap iron rods bought by the contractor to save construction cost will inevitably lead to a tragic collapse when people are inside the Nnewi mall shopping.

Work on the Second bridge across the River Niger has been accelerated.

Staff reporter, Ogochukwu Oranu who visited Okoh town in Delta state , and Odekpe in Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra state, where the bridge transverses, reports that heavy construction equipment , and Scientists were seen there.

Also seen was a team of Engineers laying beams that will carry the bridge as well as other construction works.

According to the report, a reliable source from Julius Berger, the construction company handling the project, explained that the second Niger Bridge, starts from Asaba Airport to Benin Expressway, linking Okoh and Amakom which will serve as the gateway to Odekpe and Atani respectively in Ogaru Local Government Area and then links the interchange at Obosi in Idemili North local Government Area, which is under the stage one of the project.

The source further disclosed that the Second Niger Bridge which the ground breaking ceremony was performed four years ago by former President Goodluck Jonathan, was awarded under public private partnership, adding that early work one and two , is carried out under the agreement by the present administration which decided to extend the project in a conventional way and re-awarded it under the Ministry of Power, Works and Housing , therby bridging the financial responsibility and brought Julius Berger back to site to carry out the early work three.

It was also gathered from the source that in February this year, early work four which was awarded has been executed up to forty percent.

It is expected that the Federal Government will award the contract for the main work to commence between now and August.

Urban Renewal of the UNIZIK Temp Site Junction Awka and Environs – A View through a Different Spectrum

To view the desired transformation of the UNIZIK Temp Site Junction Awka and Environs is to shun cynicisms. This is a journey into vision. In this journey, you must first free your mind and the rest will follow.

Awka is a University City. And as such the economy of the city is closely related with the university activity and highly supported by the entire university structure, which includes university hospital and clinics, printing houses, libraries, business incubators, student lodges, students' unions, student societies, and academic festivities. Thus, the history of Awka, since the inception of Anambra State in 1991, is often intertwined with that of UNIZIK.

In the particular case of the UNIZIK Temp Site Junction and Environs, whilst the seat of the university activities is at the UNIZIK Perm Site, the studentification of the UNIZIK Temp Site area is still prevalent. For this reason, the area must wear a certain je ne sais quoi – unique and befitting of a University City neighborhood.

It is no wonder, in a bid to decongest the streets of urban cities of Anambra State (starting with Onitsha) and to ensure clean & heathy Anambra State, the Governor of Anambra State, His Excellency Chief (Dr.) Willie M. Obiano, ordered the ongoing “Operation No Street Trading in Anambra State.” That operation recently hit the UNIZIK Temp Site Junction Awka and Environs, with a view to renew the neighborhood that has otherwise degenerated.

Urban decay and degeneration, following rapid urbanization, is a very serious contemporary environmental challenge in most Nigerian urban cities such as the Awka Capital Territory. Urban renewal action is a task that must be pursued and accomplished to bring our sub-standard urban cities environments to the standard reflective of our time – the 21st century, and in tandem with those of other comparable nations. Integrated efforts from international, national and local fronts as well as the private sector, different professionals in the built-environment, among others are required to realize sustainable urban renewal in our cities. The renewed or regenerated UNIZIK Temp Site Junction and environs would not only ensure harmonious, attractive and aesthetically pleasant environment but also enhanced socio-economic development, safe, secure, healthy and quality urban life for both the present and future generations.

Imagine the UNIZIK Temp Site Junction and Environs in a new light, I dare you.

Arc. Michael M. Okonkwo
Honorable Commissioner for Environment
Anambra State
Clearing of Anambra inner cities of shanties and illegal structures is the most progressive step taken since the creation of the state.
In the name of being a commercial state, all sorts of illegal structures and shanties were built on top of gutters as attachment to buildings all over the state. Which made Anambra to become an eyesore and a dump.

If these culture of building illegal shanties on every street to convert them into markets are addressed, Anambra will definitely become a decent place for any type of investor or business community to live.

I thank Willie Obiano for his courage to do the right thing for the majority of people in the state. I also appeal to Gov Obiano for the sake of innocent lives lost everyday to ban the use of Okada as a means of public transportation in Awka,Onitsha and Nnewi. Let Okada be used in ONLY in smaller cities where it is less risky to the lives of people. It is a shame that even less progressive states have already taken this action for the benefit of their people. Yet, Anambra is still lagging behind.
