I saw a break down of urban cities in Nigeria on Wikipedia and I decided to share it here. After seeing this list, I think this should be one of the major points we should use in promoting our region as the largest urban geopolitical zone in Nigeria. Another thing I noticed was that the Northwest geopolitical zone has 7 States.

You can see clearly that Igbo hardwork pays and even those who claim to be more economically viable are not as urban as the south east. Assuming cities like Awka, Nnewi, Umuahia and Abakaliki were also taken into account, the SE urban percentage should have been around 15%-20%. Whenever anyone tells you that the SE is the most backward region in Nigeria, remind the person that the SE is the most urbanized geopolitical zone in Nigeria and back it up with data from Wikipedia. By the way, how can we promote the likes of Awka, Nnewi and other cities which were not taken into account so that they can be recognized as urban cities next year because, I see no reason why Ikorodu, Warri, Osogbo and Bauchi will make the list while Awka, Umuahia, Abakaliki and others will be left behind. It was also sad not to see my Asaba in that list. We also have much work to do in Enugu because I used to think that Owerri was the smallest urban capital in the east not knowing that it was our eastern capital city of Enugu. Nsukka's position in the list is also shocking. Abeg Spider88 should bring us more pics of Nsukka. From the stats, Onitsha is the largest urban city in Nigeria.

I have deliberately stayed away from this argument so that our people from both sides of the Niger can express their frustration and iron things out in a democratic discussion which is the hallmark of Igbo custom.

Truth is that even in the same Ika family, one brother will be 100% Igbo and the other will choose to be 100% Bini or whatever. Now how do you judge that family? If you say they are Pro Igbo, you have not accounted for the half brother than is not. If you say they are anti-igbo, you have been unjust to reject the brother that is 100% Igbo.

These things were engineered by Nigeria after the civil war to perpetually destroy the Igbo and make it a minority tribe in Nigeria. So all the Igbos at the border fringes of Igboland were approached by Nigerian vandals and through coercion or active collaboration, they got elders of those communities to declare they were not Igbo. These were all done to strip the former East Central State (SE region now) of any access to the sea and more importantly, an access to it's oil reserve.


Ofcourse a lot of families took personal decisions not to break their Igbo identity and even encouraged their sons and daughters to marry from the East Central State, while many others gleefully accepted their new non-Igbo designation and pretended to be Nigerians of no ethnic group. In the newly created Rivers state the worst atrocity of confiscating Igbo properties was enforced and that brought untold bitterness between us. Everyone went to sleep and it was thought the Igbo was finally decimated in Nigeria.

The Igbo quietly endured the loss of her investments in Port Harcourt and many parts of northern Nigeria and simply started again from the scratch. Today, Igbo has come up to speed with other people that stole their properties and these issues have come up for discussion about who is Igbo and who isn't.

Firstly, every Igbo outside of the SE knows he is Igbo. They just fear that the behavior of their elders immediately after the war cannot allow them to say who they are without sounding hypocritical. Despite this bitter history, i would ask that we find a way to unite all our peoples again. That will be the best way to pay back the Nigerian vandals who engineered this division of our people to decimate Igbo in Nigeria. If Germany united her people from the Eastern and Western block many years after World War II, Vietnam united her people in the northern and southern Vietnam after the Vietnam war into the Vietnam we know today , North Korea and South Korea are still working out modalities to unite their people, it is only reasonable for Igbo to unite her people into an Igbo nation. For the process to be genuine, mistakes of the past my be acknowledged so that they do not happen again and forgiven.

We must understand the need to unite our people when you clearly understand that the Nigeria - Biafra war ended it's shooting phase on January 12, 1970 but has continued through economic, infrastructural, political representation marginalization and all sorts of exploitation of the Igbo by Nigeria. We need every Igbo in this new tactics against the Igbo adopted by Nigeria, especially the Fulani dominated Federal Government and active collaboration of our Yoruba southern brothers.

The moral of our history which we have refused to learn is that we MUST learn to invest at home. Today, the Igbo must learn to invest more at home than wherever attracts their fancy in Nigeria. Some of the greatest harm to Igbo economy by Nigeria was possible because most of her wealth were outside the East Central State which is the SE region now.

Those that think the war of Nigeria against the Igbos ended in 1970 is still living a silly dream. It is very much alive today as the blockade was alive in the 1960s, they just decided to stop the shooting. If we FAIL to LEARN from these mistakes of our fathers and repeat the same mistakes in our generation, then just like our fathers we may suddenly lose everything through a silly "QUIT NOTICE" and again start from the scratch for another generation of back breaking toil just to meet up with those who stole our investments and properties. Let us LEARN from our past mistakes and vow NEVER to repeat them

The Rotary Club of Awka Central in partnership with Anambra State Ministry of Environment,
Beautification and Ecology have taken a giant leap in the battle against degradation and erosion by planting up open spaces in strategic parts of Awka with trees.



The tree planting project which started from Arroma junction through the access road leading to Dr Alex Ekwueme Square attracted many Rotarians.

Speaking to ABS after the exercise, the President, Rotary Club of Awka Central, District 9142 Nigeria, Rotarian Joan Emegoakor, said that Rotary Clubs all over the world were mandated to embark on tree planting campaign in their various states to enhance sustainability of the planet.



Mrs Emegoakor highlighted importance of trees to human lives as well as ways to improve tree planting in the state.



The President Elect Rotary Club of Awka Central, District 9142 Nigeria, Dr Tochukwu Mbachi, urged Ndi Anambra to key into the exercise to check erosion and restore the ecosystem as well as protect the ozone layer.



The Managing Director, Leisure Park and Street Beautification, Lady Ify Atogwu, explained that the State Government gave Rotary Club approval to sponsor the tree planting, protect and maintain it for eight months.

She said horticulturists in the Ministry would source for certified plants, supervise and take over from them after the eight months

The Urgent Need for Private Cattle Ranches in Igboland

From the events and political maneuvers in Nigeria, it is evident that the continued dependence on solely Fulani herdsmen for beef supply to southern Nigeria is very very dangerous. We have seen villages wiped out and farmlands turned into grazing fields by these people, while the so called Federal Government and it's security agencies are in close collaboration with these herdsmen to dominate and totally exterminate these communities.

These crimes will continue as Nigerians (ESPECIALLY SOUTHERNERS AND IGBOS) continue the insatiable appetite for beef. It is not wrong to eat beef, but we must revive our historical cultivation of our own breed of cow (Efi-Igbo) and goats. The government should assist private entrepreneurs to set up cattle and goat ranches all over the region to at least provide some of the beef supply in southern Nigeria.

In traditional Igbo society, we keep our animals at home and go fend grass from the bush for them. We NEVER let our animals out of the compound to go and graze on people's farms because we are too lazy to bring the grass to them. Our traditional practice of raising animals is what is called closed-range ranching. That is what we must revive and farm these closed-range ranches all over the region as culturally acceptable method of ranching animals in Igbo culture.


We know the Fulanis in government will try all sorts of gimmicks to frustrate private ranches from being set up in Igboland or anywhere in the south. But it is imperative that modern cattle ranching begin immediately to forestall the clashes and murder of villages by these herdsmen. Besides it is a crucial food security issue for a whole region of the country to depend completely on just one source of beef supply from Fulani herdsmen. Let multiple private entrepreneurs set up commercial ranches and help stop some of the wicked acts happening now in Nigeria.

I am pleading with our business people and government officials to urgently pass a legislation that will prioritize and facilitate the setting up of private ranches all over the region. If Kenya, Uganda, Indonesia etc have managed to set up modern commercial ranches, we can also do the same here.

Work Advances On Second Niger Bridge Project

[s]Early Work Four is advancing at the Odekpe_Ogbaru axis of the Second Niger Bridge.


ABS crew who visited the site saw engineers laying foundation for the pilings while the one earlier started is nearing completion.
A credible source from Julius Berger, the firm handling the Second Niger Bridge project said Early Work Four will be completed by end of July and if the actual contract is not awarded before then,they will vacate the site.

The source further pointed out that ten billion naira was allocated for the Second Niger bridge in this year's budget which he pointed out is below the estimated budget but expressed hope that the Federal Government will source the remaining fund from ancillary sources to take care of the project. On the Issue of compensation being paid to those whose structures were demolished at Odekpe to make way for the Second Niger Bridge.

The President General of Odekpe Community ,Hon.Vincent Okei said they heard from the media that some people were compensated but they were not carried along pointing out that even if compensation is paid to some people who bought land from Odekpe and erected structures, the land still remains Odekpe land hence the need to do the proper thing.He further said that the community liaison officer was supposed to be contacted for boundary demarcation before the demolition noting that apart from structures and buildings, economic trees, shrines and ponds were also involved in the things to be considered.

In response to the issue of compensation demanded from Julius Berger by Odekpe community, a source from Julius Berger made it clear that compensation is the affair of Ministry of Works, Power and Housing, stating that Julius Berger was contracted by the Federal Government under the Ministry of Works to execute the project and advised the affected communities to channel their claims to this Ministry.Respondents who spoke to the ABS on the Second Niger Bridge including Mr Nweze Ani,Frederick Okoye and Ikechukwu Ede expressed joy that work is moving on at the project adding that it will ease traffic and aid their businesses but urged the Federal Government to ensure the project is not abandoned half way due to under budgetary allocation, while Engineer Paschal Omeh pointed out that the work is still at the foundation level expecting to see the main construction work commence soon.[/s]

It took Eritrea to leave Ethiopia before they changed their constitution and allowed restructuring so that autonomous regions could come together as a federating unit. Yes, it took a war wit Eritrea for that type of justice to prevail.

I blame this on our traders. Where u see small boy chest beating and insulting an elder because he happens to find some coins in his drawer. It has spiralled out of control and we have brought that to the internet, to the extent that ones look down on fellow igbo brother.
