An Islamic group, Muslim Rights Concern, MURIC, has condemned the endorsement of Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his second term bid, describing it as “unfair and provocative.”

This was in reaction to last week, widely reported endorsement of the incumbent Governor of the State, Sanwo-Olu, for a second term in office for the 2023 gubernatorial election by the Governance Advisory Council, GAC, an apex decision making organ of APC in Lagos.

The Director of MURIC, Professor Ishaq Akintola, expressed the group’s displeasure over the Governor’s second term endorsement in a statement he personally signed on Monday.

MURIC maintained that the endorsement was in violation of the long-standing unwritten rule on rotational governance between Muslims and Christians in Lagos State.



Akintola said the Christians have had their two terms and “it is the turn of Muslims to produce a governor by 2023.”

According to MURIC, “It is on record that ex-Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, a Christian, spent four years in office and another Christian, Babajide Sanwo-Olu was brought in ostensibly to complete the Christians’ two terms which expire by May 2023 when a Muslim, ceteris paribus, is expected to take over the reins of office.




“That is why Muslims in Lagos State regard the recent endorsement given to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to run for the Christians’ third term as unfair, unjust and provocative.

“It may not be known in official circles, but Lagos Muslims are grumbling and we have been under pressure for some time now to speak up.



“MURIC rejects exclusivism in matters of governance the unwritten laws should have been adhered to.

“Lagos Muslims are taxpayers and key stakeholders in issues affecting the welfare of Lagos citizens. We must, therefore, be consulted on matters of governance.


“We refuse to be blindfolded on the way to the polling booth. Neither shall we be satisfied just as voters, we must also be voted for. That is the essence of democracy. It must be participatory.

“The choice of candidates and leadership must not be lopsided in a democracy. Every segment of society must be consulted.”

However, the Spokesman of APC, in Lagos, Seye Oladejo, could not be reached for reaction as of press time.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of the party in the state, Cornelius Ojelabi, had on Sunday inaugurated the APC technical committee for Badagry Division.

Speaking during the inaugural ceremony at the Sanwo-Olu Youth Center in Iyana – Isashi area of Ojo, Ojelabi said “having seen the caliber of people across the councils areas of Badagry Division, I am quite sure that this committee will fashion out workable strategies that will enable us win massively for our dear party.”

Continuing, he stressed the need to involve more women and youths in decision making saying that “we hold them in high esteem and it is our resolve that in all of our affairs, the women and youths will not just be carried along but will be made to hold key positions that will add more value to our system”.

He further urged the all political office holders to be magnanimous to contain other party members to enable them reap the dividends of democracy.

The inaugurated executives of the committee include: the chairman of Badagry Federal Constituency of the Badagry Division, Barrister, Sunday – Emmanuel Kappo, Sunday Nunayon, Secretary, Badagry Federal Constituency, Dr. Kunle Aribikolasi as Chairman and Prince Tayese Oyefolu as Secretary for Ojo Federal Constituency; Mr. Taiwo Ajayi as Chairman and Mr. Adeyanju Adeyemi as Secretary for Amuwo – Odofin Federal Constituency; Wahab Adigun as Chairman and Basira Osho as Secretary for Ajeromi – Ifelodun Federal Constituency respectively.

You see now, that is the problem with relationships this days. Instead of you to make your position immediately, your lovey dovey will just keep you from taking your stand. Look at how your wife took her stand by telling you not to interfere in her family issue. Why can't you take your own stand from the onset. By now she would have known you to be a man of your word.

You know in Nigeria if you are not Lifting Bag of Cement, employers don't believe you are doing anything. Ensure someone is standby at CCTV section.

Now that I have read the entire story, I have this to say. You blame that other people tricked you into marriage by saying that marriage life was sweet. Your experience was bitter though.

Did you ask those people how they made their marriages sweet? Or did you believe it takes a wedding ceremony for a marriage to be sweet?

You say that your single life was awesome. Did the things you were enjoying before you got married fall from heaven? Or had you worked for them?

Why do you people put so much effort into their careers but believe that a good relationship/marriage must fall from heaven? Why are people willing and ready to go the extra mile for their career goals but not for their marriages/relationships/families?

The truth is: if you want your marriage/relationship to be sweet, be ready to work for it.

I wish those other people would have told you that too.

This is the best response I've seen here. That has always been my stand. You have to work to have a good marriage just as we work to have every other good result we achieve. The only problem here is that it involves two parties and BOTH of you must be willing to work on it to achieve a desired result. Reasons: the bible said only the pure in heart will see Jesus. It is almost impossible to have purity of heart in a troubled marriage. Going by some reason that people give to remain in abusive relationship
1. Children; if you die by accident today, those children will live. We have millions of people that lost parents at tender age doing fyn in life now. Besides you are doing de-service to those kids raising them in an abusive home. How will they grow up to be good adults.

2. What will people say; see even if your husband die today and you didn't remarry, after 3 yrs, some church members will gossip that your bad character prevented you from seeing new husband.

3. God hates divorce; 1 Cor 7:11 gave room for separation with the condition not to remarry.

One thing I have told myself which I am begging God to keep to is this "To Hell with any marriage/relationship that will take away the peace I am enjoying as a single guy"

For crying out loud, the first and main purpose of marriage is companionship meaning PEACE, when it is not there again, there is nothing left in the marriage.

It is in this part of this world we think it is because of children we marry. Is not some of this children that will grow up to be torn on your flesh, some beat their parents, some kill there parents, some sell their parents property.

Dear Nairalanders,

I have done all I could do to please my wife and make her happy in this life but she seems not to have feelings and love for me anymore. Her parents have made it clear to her to stay put in the marriage, the priest in the church has also advised her but she seems to be influenced by friend and maybe other factors unknown to me.

She separated from me sometimes but later came back on her own with our kids. I thought she has had a change of heart to make the marriage work but all I am seeing is attitude tof hers that tries to frustrate my efforts towards making the marriage work and make me unhappy.

Know I have decided to let her go back to her parents at least for some time to help me have my sanity, although before now I have told her parents we will be visiting for easter so I will use the opportunity to let her spend some time in her parents house, but am surprised her mother called recently to inform me she (mother) will be visiting.

At this juncture, what do I do? Do I still send or take her to her parents at least for my sanity to be restored because she seems to be doing anything that will displeased me ( no communication, no intimacy for months, not keeping the house tidy no moral support to and from my work place, disrespectful, insults and pompousity).

Or do I wait for her mother to visit first because these issues mentioned have been recurring and i dont know what her mother can do at this time.

Already when i entered my wifes room, she had already packed her belongings and our daughters belonging in readiness to leave because I had already told her she will need to go home for some time.

Please what best advise can I get here so I wont make a mistake I will regret,thanks.

There is no way he or she will work in the bank and not leave with something to improve himself or herself even after the banking job.

I once worked in the bank as a marketer and I am happy because of what I learnt in the cause of the job,I met a whole alot people both good and the bad but in all,it was a nice experience.
