Justwise, as the Mod, can you please educate people on using quotes in the reply to other people's posts?

Why are some posters quoting verbatim whole epistles and articles like the current one? It really is not necessary to quote every single letter of a long post only to make a small contribution.

People should know they can cut parts of the article or even bold certain parts but more than one person reposting such a long post is not ideal...

Hello guys

Can someone explain the rules of quarantine? Can someone go outside to take pictures or not?
One of those questions, hey? I tried really hard not to bite on this one until Aphrodite came with semantics on the issue.

Why do people ask these questions when they can easily find out from government website or other places on the internet?

Secondly, what does the questioner mean by outside? I immediately thought, the person wanted to go out in the yard - front or back to take pictures of whatever, himself, herself, birds and the bees etc. The answer to that is Yes, but why couldn't the questioner be more specific.

As to the fact that the person can do whatever but should not is just splitting hairs - it does not address the question at all. So, Team Justwise wins on this issue.

* Yes, we can break the law but shouldn't is not good advice!

TravelRe: General UK Visa Enquiries - Part 4 by chrisj2(m): 6:35pm On Mar 02, 2021
£750 is that not more than #480000 that she said is her upkeep. She said she spends #40,000 per month.

Visa fees, covid tests, flights and what she will spend in 12 days is going to be more than £750...

I am just saying...

I still don't think 12 days visit is good to put in a visa application unless you are super rich...

* I don't have a solution to the issue except the university route... But I get pained seeing people wasting money on visa applications...
TravelRe: General UK Visa Enquiries - Part 4 by chrisj2(m): 5:01pm On Mar 02, 2021
It will all come down to whether they believe she will come back to.nigeria or not?

Also the money transfers to her is showing a very short period.

There are a few reasons for the rejection but overall, visit/tourism this Easter (for those that have applied) is just helping the chancellor plug some financial holes due to Covid
TravelRe: General UK Visa Enquiries - Part 4 by chrisj2(m):
I am sorry to say that your niece is not an immediate close member of your family. Your siblings and your parents and children if any abroad comes first.

I think you are looking at it from a Nigerian or African point of view... Your niece could be from your father side or mother side and they could be numerous...

The fact that you are responsible for this person in the African way does not change the ties to you and the way the ECO look at things...

Just imagine: you have said this person is being looked after by yourself and parents are no longer but you want to spend more than she needs in a year for a 12 days visit.

Being in University or even 1 month to the exam is not a strong enough ties on its own. Given the state of Nigerian universities and the constant strikes, it is not unreasonable that someone can still japa from the country. We have had students come on sports or cultural visits that refused to return or even Olympians.

Save the money you want to spend now and take good care of her in Nigeria and invite her when she finished her university.

Easter hols travelling for 12 days is not essential travel for her or the UK - again, sorry! Times are different now.

*Was there no tourism and visit in the rejection letter

Instead of the Home office or UK government to say that they only want essential travellers coming in just like they say to their own people wanting to travel out... They are not advisng that on their Visa website (are they?); Instead they are suckering people into applying for visas when the majority will be rejected one way or the other.

If they did not reject on finances, they will go for ties or doubts as to whether the person will return to Nigeria or no tourism taking place or any other reason or reasons.

The best way to get your niece is to wait for her to finish her university education and then sponsor her as a student - wink wink; if you know, you know
TravelRe: General UK Visa Enquiries - Part 4 by chrisj2(m): 12:19pm On Mar 02, 2021
Inviting someone of University age outside the main summer holidays is a red flag in my opinion.

It is probably more her age and no concrete ties to Nigeria which you have unfortunately stated inadvertently in your post here too...

Why would she return back to Nigeria after just 12 days visit.

If you are going to invite a family member for a visit - they have to be closer than your niece and not for just 12 days - what can be achieved in 12 days.

Also tourism was mentioned - no need to mention that during this present pandemic period...

Sorry!

It is not that straightforward as you having the money or accommodation to support your family member.

Applying for visit or tourist visa now is likely going to be refused. I mentioned this months ago

To the poster that quoted me above: you should just formulate your own question and direct it to Zeb and all those that might know or can help.

That is the best way to get good results. By quoting me, you have wasted bandwidth and diluted your message with my own...

And to let you know; you can cut the part or parts of the post you are quoting, so that it is only the relevant part or parts that show... I am easy and this is a sincere advice.

Mechanised farming and folks being ready to work a living wage not all think they deserve better or that their education should automatically command them high wages.

Governor's need to stop wasting resources and concentrate on agriculture, agric processing, by products and provide good markets and income (Inc supplements). Loans and grant and good supervision and extension

There are some 'precious' fantasists posting on this thread... I swear!

People that game the system are also setting up difficulties for those behind them.

Imagine the woman is given a visa to study and then turn round to inform the school that she is just about to birth in the first month of starting her studies...

Futureukstudent:
then please compare how you gave this answer on why is not advisable to travel in that condition to the person I quoted...which do you think will pass a better message? That is what I am saying. I am not encouraging her to travel in that state, but truth be told, the decision is still solely in her hands and her family. I just didn't like how he was quickly condemning the woman and all.
Did you miss the bit where he said 'why would anyone consider doing such a thing'... Your comprehension needs work. Justwise has just said the same thing - it is beyond unwise and should not even have crossed anyone's mind.

Also there are two posters... The first one I ignore because it was really bad but another pregnant person comes asking questions... What the hell is going on. Do we not value our children or wellbeing?

The first even asked whether she should give birth in UK or no Nigeria before travelling and she is due to give birth in June but wants to travel in May... Head roll! If it is my family member, I will tell them off. And the husbands too - wtf?

Like I said, I pull no punches... This is an open forum; if you think I am judgemental then so be it. It does not change anything...

The more people do stupid thing the less chances they give for others coming behind them.

How do you know this person is of sound mind when you are formulating that the family does not mind, she is ok with her physician and many other things you are assuming.

I hope that if she manages to get a visa, she travels direct to the UK because deep vein thrombosis no be joke especially for pregnant women.

Her unborn baby's life concerns me more than her... Welcome to the UK!

* What kind husband will allow his wife to travel abroad to STUDY while heavily and him staying in Nigeria?

*** Furthermore, people cannot tell you precisely what the ECO will do... All situations are different. Lastly, I doubt any university in the uk will offer an admission to a woman that is about to drop - so I see a lie or lies coming...
TravelRe: Uk Student Visa/tier 4 Pbs - Your Questions Answered Part 5 by chrisj2(m): 2:04pm On Feb 26, 2021
The reason why it is not advisable should be spelt out. Justwise is just tired of answering those kind of questions these days (I think).
I gave the poster very reasons not to travel - read it again.

Yes, I pull no punches about questioning such a decision to travel to study with just 1 month to deliver... It is not the sort of thing that should be happening; even if she succeeds in getting to the UK.

I don't do God but she has been blessed with life and then she wants to put that life in danger... Why cant she just wait?

So what advice do you have for her? Just go ahead and waste your money and get yourself stressed because your God will sort things out?
TravelRe: Uk Student Visa/tier 4 Pbs - Your Questions Answered Part 5 by chrisj2(m): 12:17pm On Feb 26, 2021

Nah! I don’t think it’s a good idea, bytheaway is this her first pregnancy? Is anybody at all coming with her?
Another pregnant person (can we still say pregnant woman) wanting to japa just a few months before giving birth.

Please, you should all think of the health and wellbeing of your unborn child and yourself. That is the first thing, then, think about how you could study in a new country with a new born... Head shake and big sigh!!!

The one that is due in June and want to travel in May did not even consider that the baby might come early due to stress and whatever... She is asking whether she should come and give birth in the UK.
The next one is asking whether to fess up about being late into her pregnancy... Why are we doing this?

* Are heavily pregnant women even allowed to travel just like that?

Bro please what are the chances of getting something doing/part-time job within the first two months of arrival in the UK.

I’m also on the look out for people who’ll be resuming this September, 2021 (University of Hull). Please let’s know ourselves if you’re one of us.

Thanks.
I am sorry, I am not a student... My student days are over decades ago.

As for part time job - that is such an open ended and difficult question to answer... We are in s Pandemic with many of the hospitality places shut or working on reduced hours or differently...

There are not a lot of those easy jobs for students and low wage employees at the moment. Having said that, it all depends on the area and the person looking for the job and luck etc.

I will not bank my trip to the UK in the current climate on finding work easily in the next few months. I can tell you anything definitive!

I don't think @sweetjusty is saying s/he has got a job. I believe the poster was quoting @zeb04 and did not quote the original poster who actually got a job (ref page 545) properly to request how he got the job.

So I think this poster @sweetjusty is simply requesting how to apply and secure a role to become an embryologist and not actually indicating a job has been secured.

The two posts are identical and I feel wasn't edited/quoted properly lol.
Even the original poster deserves a rebuke! Instead of asking how he could manage on £25000 with a family. He is telling us that the money is not enough. How is that really relevant?

If the money is not enough, then don't take the job. As for the mention of underselling oneself, what has that got to do with it? They offer you a job with a particular salary - you either take it or leave or if brave or stupid, you can ask for more money... In a situation where you are starting as a junior embryologist and let them know that it is only money you are interested in.

What is the average salary of an embryologist - take the top ones and the new starters - it is not more than £35000...

People need to word their questions better - simples!

I understand your point clearly. Naturally am a light traveller however with kids it's always a different ball game, hence you can't ignore all the food. I didn't pay anything on excess food, we were in line with KG, as a family of 4. Infact I only took very few clothes not even up to 10pcs (1 boot,1 sneakers, 3 jeans, 3 tops and 1 jacket)
Ok! I understand. However, these folks are at least 3 suitcases over the limit. Something has to give! They have packed 11 cases and thinking of paying excess or cargo... That is the real issue - my anecdotes is neither here or there - I travel light and don't bother with strict Nja foods...

Anyhow, if the poster goes to Living in UK as an immigrant. There is a famous Mamatukwas that does Cargo and does currency exchange too...

TravelRe: Uk Student Visa/tier 4 Pbs - Your Questions Answered Part 5 by chrisj2(m): 9:27pm On Feb 24, 2021
You are missing the point! If you do not have to pay excess luggage or cargo at about £4 or £5 per kilogramme then carry whatever you like.

But 3 cartons of indomie when Maggi noodles is better is just thinking that Nja foods is superior when it is not!

I am not a foodie type person and I will not waste my time or effort carrying Nja foods to the UK.

I go to nja with suitcases mostly full of great FTS and come back with one suitcase that is virtually empty. There are enough foods in the UK and like I said, whatever you bring will be eaten.

Black soap, Shea butter, ground peppers and other natural remedies and spices are my thing and they are very cost effective because they are mad expensive in the UK.

Each to their own! So they take all the foods; what exactly should they leave behind? And did you pay excess luggage on your foods?
TravelRe: Living In The Uk/life As A UK Immigrant by chrisj2(m): 5:24pm On Feb 24, 2021
I am not annoyed can any normal salary ever be enough? We are all managing except just a few...

The rest of the question is ok but talking about money at this juncture is not really appropriate. It sounded almost boastful...

£25000 might not be a lot for a family that is used to having a good and high standard of living in Nigeria... But it is a very good start (starting salary) for someone moving to another country. Add all the other benefits that we normally have to pay for in Nigeria and much better security, then that £25000 should not be sneered.

It is just an advice to the posters and others. I have been in this country long and we do not go on about money and earnings and wealth - we are not like Americans...

Why are people so particular about Nja foods? Whatever you bring with you will be eaten and finished...

There are all sorts of foods in the UK and many many combinations that are far better than our over reliance on carbohydrates and too much meats...

Moreover, there are African or Asian shops where many items can be bought. Yes, they are more expensive than if purchased in Nja but if you have to pay as an individual not seller or wholesaler to transport food then you might not be better off. And those Nja customs and immigration like to form about foods - bribery and even confiscation at times; at a time one is stressed out.

Kids clothes especially Nja attire will be outgrown and rarely worn unless one is the church type but even so, people wear western clothes to shop.

They sell Maggi here or just buy other types of stock cubes. Panla, dried ponmo, fish, drinks like five alive and so on and so forth - not necessary...

Nja attires so go out of fashion in a year or two...

Sensible shopping, using charity shops (same thing as 'graded' dey plenty... And they will be so cheap after lockdown has ended because people have been clearing out and will go out and spend spend.

If you all have 46 kg, then how can you be 70kg over as a student. Forget your Nja books unless really relevant to your course but we get second hand ones too...

Start enjoyed your packed food before you leave Nja. Thank me later!

I am an embryologist, and i just got a job with a Hospital in Manchester after doing series of interview.

the starting salary is 25k annually which i consider small for me.

I would like to find out the best city to stay,( within a 30mins radius to Manchester) because i dont think i can live in the city center with that amount. also do you advise i bring my family immediately? will that salary be enough for us.

Please i need help, i have just a month to get ready.

@justwise and everybody else.

thank you.
Why did you feel you have to say that £25000 starting salary is not enough? Do you know the average wage in the UK? Will you not be better off in Nigeria if you earn so much more currently?

Ask questions wisely!

Please, anyone that travelled recently...let me ask. Is there any thing you wish you had left behind and things you wish you had come with. Need to reduce my load abeg.
Foods! Almost all foods can be left behind because food is food and if you shop wisely and not hung up on eating Nja foods, you will be fine. We all eat too much anyways!
Then clothes, forget most of your Nigerian attire - take just a few good ones - where are you going to be going or are you coming to UK to do owambe.
Next, books and other personal effects that will just gather space in your house for many years to come.
Mind you! You gave allocation for every single traveller including the children, do how come you are 70kg over? Get rid of beans and rice and meats - no need!

To be fair, I am reading millions of naira on the student visa thread and I am thinking, where is all these money coming from... The cost of international studentship is really so high that you sometimes wonder if it is really worth it for many many students...

And I also wonder about the game the UK government is playing... They like money too much.

Because the JJC is now forming with the Moderator of this thread and of the same one he is quoting; the student visa thread on nairaland.

And he comes straight out with accusations of discouragement to people that have read and seen a lot... He even accused Justwise of not being in the UK.

The worst part is talking about people perhaps not making it because they might be lazy...

So his big idea is to look for cheap course (ok!); Nothing to wrong with that but is it about cheap courses or actually gaining a qualification that can justify the amount spent and provide good employment and future?

The only good thing I read is his advise to use universities with offices in Nigeria and to avoid agents...
