Balderdash

And please let’s stop using “this is Africa” to say things that make no sense.

No disrespect intended

Omihanifa:
I agree with you, but don't also forget that this is Africa and the fact that somebody is your mother doesn't mean she can't harm you. There are so many cases of mothers being behind their children's problem. Either as a result of disagrement over choice of wife or husband or even money or property

That's why am saying he shouldn't just discard what the lady is saying. He should take his time to observe first before arriving at a conclusion.

It's possible that maybe she's been observing a particular trend whenever the man gives his mother money.

She’s not making any sense. Fetish how? Superstitious people and their wahala sha. So if she’s the one to send it, then your mom won’t be fetish with it? huh

The only thing you need to do is to ensure that you provide for your family very well. You don’t have to make the money you provide for your mom go through her first.

Family › Re: Is It Compulsory For A Woman To Get Married? by cococandy(f): 5:12pm On Mar 10, 2021
I would argue that it’s feminist to live the life you (as a woman) want on your own terms.

Before feminism, dads collectively decided for you when and to whom you could get married to. Your mom usually has little say in the matter. And you definitely had no say.

Daughters were for father’s economic gain.
You couldn’t decide if you wanted to pause marriage and obtain a degree first.
If your marriage would expand your father’s empire today, then you’re getting married today. No if’s and buts.

So love, the right to not get married if you don’t want to, is feminist AF. And we all love it kiss . That ability to make that choice for yourself.

Klass99:
You just described me and I love dogs too, but do not have one yet. I am also certain we are not neighbours. grin

Believe it or not, there are women like me and her, who do not have that maternal desire at all, it's not pretence, it's not spiritual, it's not feminism and it's not medical or health related either. We just do not desire children.

To answer your question/topic of the thread - marriage and children are life choices, not goals or achievements we all have to meet in order to unlock happiness or the adult phase of our lives. I saw this on NL some time ago and I absolutely agreed with it then and still do.

pozehnani:
Well... Since the Bible commands it, it's compulsory.

For me personally, if you can't find someone you're happy with, don't go into it because you'll still jump out or end up being miserable.

It's not a do or die affair. I'm single and very happy with peace of mind that most married people don't have as a result of the kind of marriage they find themselves.
I don’t think the Bible commands it. But you can prove me wrong sha

Exactly!

I know a couple who have been married for more than half a century with no children because one of them and they won't say which one can't have children. I am biased to say it is probably the man but I don't know. However, I never knew that infertility was a legitimate reason to divorce your spouse.
Yup it’s probably the man. smiley if it was wifey’s issue, another woman would already be in the picture by now.

Family › Re: Would You Marry A Sit At Home Husband? by cococandy(f): 12:51am On Mar 09, 2021
If the man can ACTUALLY do the work of a stay-at-home partner, then I don’t see why not. As long as they both agree on it.

But in most cases, the woman would end up with double the work. Sole breadwinner and home keeper.

I always 100% advocate both sides pitching in on whatever is needed to keep the family going. No strict roles as in if the designated partner is unable to do it for some reason, the other partner will not do it (even if they can) just because it’s not their role. That’s messed up IMO.

Rocktation:
May I remind you that this OP's passion to support the feminism movement, was fed by the inability of his dad to demonstrate enthusiasm, when it comes to allowing his woman to exude any of the good qualities he mentioned? Of course, no one ever accused men, especially africans, of a willingness to accept that they oftentimes only audio-want logical, intelligent, smart and all the other attributes from their women, that they can barely handle, due to some hierarchical ascendancy, passed down from their ancestors. A lot of Nigerians are walking stereotypes. Or you yourself, in all honesty, can you allow an Okonjo Iweala type of wife, to blossom in "your house"? Leaving you with the baby and no soup in the house, to attend some summit in Holland, being opinionated as to where you should settle..and the works... Reaaally?

As the OP has tacitly suggested, there is a thin line between challenge and quarrel.
Don’t mind them. That’s the definition of bad woman to the average Nigerian. Putting her career before the man’s egusi soup cravings. How dare she?.

Those who use the okonjo-iweala family as an example of women who still succeed despite the “fake oppression” are never honest enough to tell themselves the truth. That they will be the first to condemn any woman who sacrifices what that woman had to sacrifice to get to where the family is.

A man who lets his woman soar like her husband did would be a simp by their definition. But now that the family is successful, they want to use her to score their foolish insincere points

Yes the women you’re talking about are feminists. If they weren’t, they wouldn’t feel free to plan a life and career of their own. Feminism gives them that choice. To do what they wish with their lives. It’s simple
