ChybuzzDD: You've not seen anything yet. There's poverty in the country. Before I ran away from there, a patient once priced me 15,000 for inguinal Herniorrhaphy and insisted on paying nothing more. And he told me about other doctors doing it at that amount. The easiest way to be a pauper is to practice in Nigeria as a healthcare professional. Majority are poor and, unfortunately, constitute the bulk of the patients. |

I think I understand why they do. Of course like you, I don’t agree. I thought I knew some stuff about healthcare at home. Apparently I don’t. Also they pay 40k for anesthesia service? Like for that very very hard work? That’s terrible but I digress ChybuzzDD: Most low-cost private hospitals do that to save cost, as patients pay poorly. Anaesthetists charge about 30,000 to 40,000 when they're invited. A patient that pays a total of 30,000 for Appendectomy or Herniorrhaphy will, of course, have the doctor as both the surgeon and the Anaesthetist, as the money is not even enough to pay off the Anaesthetist. And that could end in tears. The same open Appendectomy or open Herniorrhaphy in the US is about $25,000( over 9million naira). Truth is healthcare is expensive all over the world, and shouldn't be "managed". When you're willing to "manage", you've agreed to have the standard compromised. And both you and the doctor should share the blame. |

They do that? That would scare me ChybuzzDD: I have noticed Nigerians are usually afraid of surgeries and see it as 50:50 thing. That's not how it should be. The most common cause of death in the theatre is anaesthetic complications and transfusion reactions. There's nothing to be afraid of if these areas are properly handled. Discuss the mode of anaesthesia with your doctor. Let the anaesthesia be handled by doctors trained in that area, ie an Anaesthetist. They'll charge you a little bit more for that, but the patient will be safer, especially if its spinal anaesthesia in this case. Let the doctor not be both the Surgeon and the Anaesthetist in the theatre, as do often do in most private hospitals. The extra bill won't kill anyone. |

Exactly what to do. Joint account. Fairness on both sides. If emergency arises or something happens and someone needs more for a genuine reason, then send more. No biggie Takotsubo: Chorismate
What hubby and I do is send same amount to both sides of the family. You send 50k to yours and she sends 50k to hers with scope to help out if any side is more needy at some point.
It's easier this way for the sake of fairness and to prevent any budding feelings of resentment. Your parents will never be more important to her than her parents. No side of the family is more deserving.
This method only works if you both contribute to a joint account and then plan together on ALL expenses. If you're doing your thing with money and she's doing her thing, then it's no one's concern how much you send or how much she sends.
You cannot be sharing a joint account with equal contribution and then tell her to send less to her folks because she has brothers. It doesn't sound right .
So best to discuss it now very plainly, how much you bring in,how much she brings in, joint account or not, your estimated joint expenses ,savings plan, THEN how much parents will receive.
Good luck. |

OJURONGBE1: You don't know nothing! The poster is right . My elder sister is in the same shoes. 36+ and yet to settle all in the name of chasing career. She's an associate partner at McKinsey with an ivy league postgraduate degree from Columbia uni. Well read, well travelled ,vast and a very brilliant woman. She's lonely as Bleep . I know what I'm saying because each time i visit her in Abuja, we could be up till 1am talking. There were times she would ask me to extend my stay because she would be all alone by herself immediately i travel back. Forget all these nonsense as besties there's a limit to what they can do. When you marry right ,there's this joy that comes within knowing there's someone back home who's always on the look out for you . Your sister is not every single woman. Even if she were, you proceeded to miss the entire point of my post. Those unkind comments are unnecessary. What are they supposed to achieve? To rub what you perceive as their misery in their faces? In order to do what? |

TheKingIsHere: Then why is Will crying when his wife had an affair in an open marriage? Think!! And why was he having affairs too if they aren’t in an open marriage? Seems to me like they are. Besides, just because people are in open marriages doesn’t mean they are immune to emotions or hurt. Sometimes they don’t have stuff figured out like they think they do. Until one or both of them gets hurts. I don’t believe there’s a formula to it. |

Munzy14: Ladies Take Op seriously at your own peril.
The moment a man provides all that himself, Just know u av little or no say in the house.
And your opinion is barely taken, with time he will tell you to quit your work and stay at home.
As he is winning bread, please win akara (beans cake). So your respect for each other will be intact.
Deep secret , men respect and cherish their working class wife. If you look beyond the normal ego, you will see you are cherished as a lady. True. It happens too often that men who are sole providers control everything the woman does and how she spends. Even control her relationships with her family and friends. People are usually okay with this. If majority of women who provide for men act like the majority of men who provide for women, everything would be up in flames now. Remember dependent women have derisive nicknames for being dependent but we are all okay with that. All that talk about how ladies go haywire when they are the breadwinners compared to when men are breadwinners na just unverified lies. Some guys like that are just mad they can’t take your money and tell you how to breath. While forgetting that they aren’t playing the part of a home keeper while you’re doing the bread winning. In my opinion if they can’t peacefully trade places (to some extent) with the woman when the roles are flipped, they should keep quiet and make sure they play their part. Although I’ll state the lady in the OP was out of line. The man didn’t do anything wrong by encouraging his daughter to study. |

While on this topic. This is on the front page. https://www.nairaland.com/5986260/rita-dominic-celebrates-45th-birthday#91633413And as usual, y’all know what to expect. Comments like this are the reasons why people try to encourage single/childless women to not listen to any of the wickedness that is thrown at them. Instead to focus on their goals and have a good life not matter they end up achieving or not achieving in their romantic lives. They are encouraged that they can be happy and fulfilled if they don’t view marriage and child bearing as the only thing that they need to be happy. The people who speak this encouragement are FALSELY labeled are denying the biological clock in order to portray women as victims. Smh We would rather turn a blind eye and allow the mockery to be common practice. I mean if a woman is not married with kids, what’s the value of her life again?

My point is not that all or even many men are like him. I’d be scared if they were. My point is that people judge women differently and always expect more from us. Even when it’s humanly difficult to give more. They use God to try and make you feel guilty. To guilt you into giving your last breath. See as no one judged him for any of the things he did (which my aunt would have been sacrificed for if she did half of it). The judgment only came when he totally stopped caring and asking about his wife and kid. Like they were strangers he was happy to be away from. So, OP ( if a real person ) should be very easy on herself. truthsayer009: Nice story, but last last sha, you would advise her to leave since the situation isn't getting better right? let's face reality.
What is worrisome to me is the man who never even worried about his child (the toddler), I mean this is his child, even if the mom died at child birth, will he throw the child away? So the man was just an irresponsible man, he should be held responsible. He doesn't represents all Men, so let's clear the air on that. |
