deomelo:
The privatization process was based on corruption and cronyism, they handed Nigeria's power assets to their cronies with zero knowledge about electricity and power management for pennies. They don't have money to invest and grow their operations with and the banks won't borrow them one kobo their business is based on corrupt, shaky and incompetent model. Nigerians are experiencing the sad effects of heir crooked and corrupt decisions.

The GENCOs should be rolling out all kinds of products from wind energy to solar and so on, but they can not because they are chronically in debt and the DISCOs on the other hand can not pay for energy deliveries because they are also poor and in debt so how do you encourage the average energy investor to invest in our power sector.

Nigerians are not even ready start paying full price for anything, they still want everything subsidized like babies with feeding bottles.

I don't see 24/7 electricity anytime soon.
You don't task GENCOs to roll out various energy type/solutions like solar, wind and electricity. What sane nations do is allow anybody who can generate power most cost efficiently for a chosen power type do the power generation.
That's why you hear of periodic power auction where top solar GENCOs for example try to deliver the best deal to their client or the government.

Go research the last paragraph and confirm it if true so you can stop blaming past admin senselessly and endlessly.
APC is not the first govt to have a predecessor.

Let them improve power instead of pointing finger at the privatization process. Same corruption ravaging oil and other key sector is what is ravaging the power sector.

Where is the improved supply Fashola promised us in exchange for tariff increase early 2016? Where are the prepaid meters.

Artificially capping the price of gas merely works to ensure that gas production is unattractive for gas producers (the IOCs, etc.)...
The gathering and processing of gas is a very CAPITAL INTENSIVE business, and that’s it’s been more attractive to produce for export.

Meanwhile, metering is actually an expensive undertaking (and yet people are discussing it here as if it has no cost implications at all), and therefore given the precarious balance sheets of the DISCOs rollout has been gradual. Hopefully, the onset of the so-called MAPs regime will speed up the process. In an estimated population of nearly 200 million, to have only 6 million registered electricity consumers sounds fishy.
Gas is cheap enough and very close to good number of gencos. Any other explanation are largely circumstantial. They power system men have no excuse to again.
Oga, metering of electricity isnt a expensive undertaken, has never been and would never be. You can prove me wrong.
What we have a corrupt system where nothing logical is given a chance to happen.

Depends on what you define as “too much”?
If (for example) you are paying about as much for a generator, then you are paying half of the REAL cost of electricity.

Nonetheless, as I mentioned elsewhere on this thread, capping tariffs at an average of N38/kWh for electricity generated at an average of about N60/kWh ensures that DISCOs (even if they achieve the impossibility of collecting 100% payments and no Nigerian steals electricity) will never have the balance sheet to attract the necessary capital (and there is a lot of capital across the globe looking for good long-term investments) to massively modernize and expand their facilities and improve upon (if not entirely eliminate) “reliability issues”!
>
The discos are corrupt and everyone knows this. If you are trying to justify estimated billing along with you indirect call for higher tariffs, then I am dissapointed. The discos can't tell us they are selling electricity at a loss to those already with prepaid metres. In 2016 they increased power rate and promised us improved supply but where is the improvement in supply?

Let's even address the claim of high cost of generation of electricity self, What drives the cost of electricity high in Nigerian between GENCOs and DISCOs? The have gas at unbeatable prices, pay staff run down salary, and have metres to measure what is being used. So what drives our own cost up?

9jaRealist:
Let there be cost-reflective tariffs for whatever is presently be supplied...
The present tariff regime ensures that DISCOs will never have the balance sheet to invest in capacity upgrades (they are NOT bankable).

The irony is that (whether they know it or not) Nigerians are already paying the real cost of electricity...
Either directly by paying for generators and fuel to power same or indirectly through the opportunity cost of not having power.
>
Remember in early 2016 when Fashola was removing the flat service charge of 750? He promised us improved power supply in exchange for an increase in the per kwhr rate of electric power supply. Have we really seen any improvement so far for the increase in power supply rate of 2016? I can't say I have any real improvement.

The first and most logical step is to get ride of estimated billing. I imagine a situation where MTN is having monopoly and they bill people in group according to which mast covers their area. One man who hardly calls will never be happy to share an estimated bill with another who calls always.

Six months later, we met at the domestic wing of the Murtala Mohammed International Airport in Lagos, and you should have seen the look of surprise and happiness at the same time on the bishop’s face.

“This my son. Where on earth have you been?” Did you travel to Mars?” He hugged me so tight as if his life depended on it. He was all smiles. He started asking me questions about how ministry has been going, and I answered excitedly, with all the clarity he wanted.

We found a seat in the lounge and talked for about 30 minutes; because the flight was delayed by 30 minutes. He kept asking questions and I kept talking.

The next day, the bishop called me. He called me again after three days. From then on, seeing him became less cumbersome. That was how I became a regular keynote speaker at the Covenant University Special Programmes on Character Development and National Transformation.
If it was some other people that had been turned down, I am sure they would quickly concluded that the bishop isn't sensitive or some other negative things. I
Bishop Oyedepo works long hours and is about one of the busiest men I know of. It would be wrong for such a busy and equally important man to now go to take public flight and be delayed for 30 minutes.

1. You support a move done out of bitterness? You support a move that was not backed with any iota of explanation to show the benefits vs alternative?

2. Quality and Quantity education? pls tell that to the marines. This is just the same ole excuse that do not allow states to grow.
3. It would have even been honourable had Iheadio refered the issue of the creation of 6 universities and 4 polytechnics to a committee of seasoned educationist and business professionals to look at the feasibility and otherwise and advise him. This decision and approach is so amateurish and looks pretty bad.
4. Finally does Imo want to progress or retrogress? The world has moved on from the foolish politics of destroying your predecessor's works. You end up being consumed. Ambode will testify to this. The people are now aware that it is them you're spiting. Ihedioha by this action is spiting the people and not Rochas.
I don't support the move because of bitterness but because it was the right thing to do. Irrespective of whether Ihedioha did it out bitterness. No need for all those redundant points.

You are free to take it as anything you want. Abuja alone makes a mockery of Lagos.
You hardly see senseless disorganisation you see in Lagos in Abuja. It is the adjoining states like Niger, Nasarawa and Kogi that introduce disorderliness to Abuja. Let small Lagos with huge earning improve on her road network alone.

Bros,

You don't need to come to Lagos before we address something that not only does not make sense, but turns logic on its head. Olagunsoye Oyinlola created Osun State University with about 6 Campuses. Aregbesola came, he argued that it was too expensive to run 6 campuses and that all should be consolidated into one. He referred this to the Wole-Soyinka led education summit. This was further escalated to virtually all stakeholders concerned. At the end of the day Aregbesola lost the debate and 6 or so campuses still remains.

I would have thought there was a strategy in the creation of the 6 Universities and 4 Polys with each to serve a specific purpose. What was wrong with the strategy, Ihedioha did not address. How will it affect Imo people? NO? But it must be about eliminating any trace of Rochas. This is just a case of biting the nose to spite the face.
The new IMO Governor might have reversed the moves of Rochas out of bitter politics but I support the move and think it is the right thing to do. We need a blend of quality and quantity in Education and not all those mushroom learning centers Governors are creating 1 or 2 to the end of a 8 year ms stay.

Look at the stupid comments I am reading on nairaland today. The reason why lagos is the only state that is working is because of succession, you will not see Sanwo Olu tearing down structures that Ambode built but starting from where he stopped, same thing ambode did after Fashola.

But what do you have in other states, total nonsense!
Lagos isn't working in the real sense of things. When you juxtapose their earnings against their achievements, you see that Lagos is even far below average.
