Education › Re: Lecturers/Students Sharing Rooms At Maritime University Over Accommodation Issue by CodeTemplar: 4:17pm On Jun 07, 2019
HigherEd:
99% staff and students affected.

By Oko Ebuka

The Nigerian Maritime University, Okerenkoko, Delta State is in deep accommodation crisis as over 99 per cent of the school including lecturers and 1,400 students are affected.

A source close to the management revealed to Vanguard Maritime Report that the main campus at Okerekoko currently do not have any project going on there while the take-off campus at Kurute does not have what it takes to accommodate the students and staff of the institution. The source also reported that the female lecturers are sharing rooms with female students while the male lecturers are sleeping in their offices and the students don’t have any place to sleep and those who have money to rent private accommodation because there are none to rent.

“As I speak to you now lecturers are sleeping in their offices, in lecture halls female lecturers are sleeping in female hostels. The students don’t have accommodation apart from the first year, and there are no houses to rent in town even if you have your money, and the population keeps increasing” the source said. May Day: workers urge employers of labour to respect collective agreement The source calls on the present administration to find a lasting solution to the problem by signing the proposed bill into law in order to make provisions for the institution to provide accommodation for them.

“Attention of the federal government should be quickly drawn into it so that they will go and find a solution. Don’t also forget that the president refused to sign the bill into law. That is another problem because if that bill was signed into law, they will make provisions for and be able to reach out to those who will be able to provide the accommodation.”

“The project was started by Goodluck Jonathan’s administration and this present government has not added even a block to the little project done by the PDP government,” the source said. The source further disclosed that only year one student of the university have accommodation presently and expressed worry that the fresh intake of students later this year will further compound the problem, he concluded. Efforts to get the reaction of the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. (Mrs.) Maureen Ongoebi Etebu was unsuccessful as she neither picked her call nor responded to a text message sent to her on the issue. jesusjnr:
Did you all consider "male and female" in the context of that saying before discarding it?

For that was an answer Jesus gave to the divorce question, that's when someone marries, and later divorces the spouse to marry someone else, to show that divorce was opposed to the way God made it to be in the beginning, hence that one who divorces and marries another commits adultery.

So if "male and female" in that context spoke against divorce in marriage to the extent of rendering it adulterous when such a divorcee marries another spouse, how much more is polygamy when the spouse is not divorced but another spouse is added to that one spouse if not more?

For the point is that it was male and female(monogamy) that God made it to be beginning, not male and females(polygamy) or males and female(polygamy), so anything other than male and female(monogamy) as it was originally made by God is adultery.

Therefore that was a Bible verse that not only spoke against divorce, but also against polygamy, homosexuality etc.

So if that makes me "not make any real point here" or "use scriptures out of context", or "fail exams and repeat classes", then so be it, for i'm only following my Master's example.
I think that verse u used initially (Mathew 19:4) is more about divorce and how God planned out the marriage institution before even the commandment(s) by Moses.
"He made them male and female" also appeared in Genesis and then God formed the man from dust directly and the first woman from man. That to me addressed our spiritual formation and separates it from our physical creation. To me those verses you sampled answer the question of who made hermarphrodites more than polygamy/monogamy question.

There is a part after that scripture you used ( verses 5 and 6 ) that says a man shall leave the parents and cleave unto his wife and vice versa. That is the one I think justifies monogamy and not God "created them male and female".

lol.

I am against polygamy....

A man shall leave his father and be joined to his wife and they shall be one flesh.

That is how Christian marriage is understood.
1 man + 1 wife = 1 flesh.

My church didn't just start monogamy, like all Catholic dogma, we simply inherited it from the our early forebears who were taught by the apostles or we applied Apostolic principles to current issues.
The KJV puts it better for us. it say a man and a woman shall leave the parent and cleave unto one another. Scripture also says whatever God has joined, let no man put asunder.

1 Corinthians 7:1-15

Now concerning the things whereof ye wrote unto me: It is good for a man not to touch a woman.

2 Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband.
This scripture still doesn't change what the mannhas said. It only advises every man and woman to have a legal partner but doesn't say whether it is one man to one woman or many woman.

This is:

Matthew 19:4 (KJV)

And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female,

The bolded is against polygamy.
That's talking about the spiritual being. stop using scripture out of context.

My friend, Tijani will hit and surpass these heights.....
Kudos ma
The works of poets and painters outlive them no doubt, but does it help with basic survival of humans?
Engineers are the real deal and the fact every single engineer can't isolate his works and package it in a way the painters or writers do doesn't make them any less relevant.
In America for example, they had a lot of great poets before the industrial age but also had a substantial amount of poverty to go with it. This was their story until the industrial revolution - anchored by engineers and scientists, took place. It was the engineers who allowed the whites to relax slave laws holding back the blacks because technology meant they could triple their productivity with machines and even stop depending on human for harsh labour to power their development.

Take the great financial depression of America ( 1939 ) as another example, a close examination showed that the hardest hit folks are those poets and writers who didn't create basic things necessary for or directly aiding human survival and needs.
The farmers among them simply took their limited crops produce and fed their family but you see the office clerks, writers, poets, and accountants who depend on wealth created by others to have jobs lost out as they had no direct connection to provisioning of pressing human needs. They kept looking for employment where there was none.

People like writers, poets and literature people only have their work consumed when the engineers and scientists have created a healthy society by sustaining the cycle of production of basic human needs like food, shelter, roads, health, and information or communication.

While I will never support the adoption of a state religion or spending of state money on religion related things, I support the action of this governor partially only because it brings to the fore the issue of abuse of power and state commonwealth by majority religion in states.

In the north for example, Muslims are in the devilish habit of locating a mosque at the city center and trooping in mass to pray there on Fridays, thereby blocking roads that were we built by muslims and Christians.

The roads belongs all but some are monopolising it and that isn't different from what the governor is doing here. I support the governor partially but support the atheists fully even though I believe in God.

What a waste...
You spend N83 million on a feast, while millions of your state’s kids are out of school.

Even if they use that money for a Skill Acquisition Center or program, it would be more productive.
>
The painful thing is that the money being dashed to one religion is owned by folks from two religion. When the governors want to cry about more funds in Abuja, you will never heat them talk about using it to buy rams because they know it is wrong and illogical but once they get the money and want to do fire brigade governance, they can share it to the religion majority of their people belong to.
It is bad and things like this is why those who asked for restructuring asked for it. We need to restructure but those who see Nigeria as a free transfer of the wealth of the subdued want the current structure to continue.

reicherMan:
A late replacement and massive underdog, Andy Ruiz Jr. just shook up the world.

Ruiz (33-1, 22 KOs) spoiled the long-awaited U.S. debut of unified heavyweight champion and British star Anthony Joshua to score four knockdowns and record a spectacular upset via seventh-round TKO at Madison Square Garden.

Ruiz get up off the canvas early in Round 3 in order to do what oddsmakers felt was nearly impossible, he showed tremendous poise, power and fearlessness in systematically dismantling Joshua (22-1, 21 KOs) to flip the heavyweight division upside down

Ruiz, 29, a native of southern California, became the first boxer of Mexican descent to win a heavyweight title as he captured Joshua's IBF, WBA and WBO titles with excessive force and heart. The upset was arguably the biggest within the division.

"I just want to thank God for giving me this victory. Without him this wouldn't have been possible," Ruiz said. "This is what I have been dreaming about. This is what I have been working hard for, and I can't believe I just made my dreams come true."

Ruiz never backed down from there despite letting Joshua off the hook in Round 4 when it was clear both fighters were heavily fatigued. Two knockdowns later in Round 7 and referee Michael Griffin jumped in at 1:27 to wave the fight off as Joshua was weary on his feet.

With the sold-out crowd, which was largely in favor of Joshua, stunned and silent following the stoppage, Ruiz jumped around the ring in wild celebration.

"Big respect to Andy, big big respect," Joshua said. "[He's a] good fighter. Thank you America. Thank you everyone for coming out this evening. Sorry I let my friends down, sorry I let my supporters down."
