The problem is that UI's monthly wage bill of about 1.1 billion naira is entirely paid by FG just like other federal institutions. So once salaries come in from the university account most staff don't care how it came by but just wait for the next cycle.. Trouble only begin when the university is unable to pay salary as a result of shortfall from FG which happens once in a blue moon.
The question of how IGR is being spent must be thoroughly scrutinised
.
I have said it severally here, let every govt institution maintain a open book that reveal what is coming in and what is going out including asset depreciation and amortization. anything short of this is a jungle system.
The student and lecturers who are benefitting don't even care.
In even Harvard, they account for even donations from the public and render account yearly and the end result is a multi-billion dollar endowment fund reserve.

Thank you for humouring smiley. I'm a keen admirer of the Bishop and the way he conducts himself but alas, I'm not Nigerian and so I've never had the opportunity to see him. I don't have an overwhelming desire to see him but I certainly envy people who get to learn from him firsthand.

Then ofcourse, there's my fascination with some of the things he has said...I once heard him say he is 'actively engaged for 16 hours a day, everyday," and I've always wondered what exactly he means by that statement and how much sleep that might mean he gets. I don't mean to bore you with the ramblings of my mind though. I just noticed that you seemed to know quite a bit about the man and was wondering how that came to be.

I know some people fall in love with the concept of the man but I'm more interested in what makes him who he is... Why is he so productive, how's he so focused, how does he spend his time, how does he balance pastoring hundreds of thousands with being a family man and running world class institutions at the same time. What a man!

Once again, thank you brother. I'd still like the link to the original source of this Kenneth Hagin excerpt, if possible.
Ooops....thought you were one of the potential haters oh.
The man works really hard I can tell you that.
One way to confirm that is during Shiloh gathering. Just attend any Shiloh gathering and hang around any of the pastors close to him, then monitor his activities from that vantage point. by 5 am he is up for covenant hour of prayer. and he stays there until 11:00 am.
between that time and 1:00 pm he is active in his office. Between 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm he is on pulpit again and between that time and the 7-11 pm evening service he is also in his office working. To crown it all after each day they(pastors) gather to give thanks again. In fact he sleeps less than 4 hours every day irrespective of whether Shiloh is on or not.
At times, when he is about to retire to his house for the day, he stops by to drive around The campus(CU) and pray on wheels for some hours.
The man works more than most machines and I put it around 18-19 hours a day.

How can it be done well??give two ways
Let govt build refineries and maintain them with help of technical partners. If dangote can run one efficiently then nothing stops the govt from running theirs. Even Saudi Arabia maintains oil refining assets.
If we can't catch the culprits of the current oil corruption now how will govt catch them when modular refineries owner and Dangote finally collude to regulate prices? This is Nigeria.

That's the problem, subsidy cannot be done well.

Subsidy works this way. You buy , let;s say, bottles of wine for N300 and plan to sell at N500.
A subsidy regime would force you to sell the wine at N100 and give you a 'underrecovery' of N200.

This has several effects

1.You cannot make a profit, meaning you cannot invest in your business
2You cannot pay suppliers, which has an effect on wine manufacture among other things.

Same with the petrol sector. Because under subsidy oil companies and marketers cannot make a profit...which has bad effect on oil production in this country .It's why we cannot build more new refineries (by now we should have had at least three new Dangote size refinereis being built)

And Niger is far poorer than we are, as is Benin , yet they pay N397 and N298 per liter of fuel.I see now reason why we cannot pay.

If we keep subsidy, we are going to keep on making things difficult for us. We cannot afford it with falling crude oil prices, and it is preventing more investment. And Dangote is not going to operate at a loss in the name of subsidy.
Oga subsidy can be done well. the same greed pushing the people in charge to collide won't stop them from forming a cabal that fraternizes and maintain high prices.
Politics › Re: Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala With African Finance Ministers And Central Bank Governors by CodeTemplar: 11:18am On Apr 11, 2019

The problem is, when price of fuel is sold above N250 in places like Benin, Niger and Cameroon....subsidy in Nigeria incentives smuggling

That's because under subsidy, marketers are operating at a loss. Even the NNPC is operating at a loss. So, they make money by smuggling to neighbouring countries, and by also collecting subsidy claims for the same smuggled fuel

That's why the amount of money spent on subsidy is going up.

And that's why I support subsidy removal. You cannot run a system where people are not allowed to make a profit. If we subsidised our GSM sector, by now we would still be struggling with GPRS internet...because there won't be profits to invest in better tech. Subsidy prevents NNPC and marketers from making the profits that can be invested in things like more refineries, which lead to lower prices.

(Dangote's refinery is funded by loans. And it won't save us at all...he has to make back his money.)
Oga, smuggling may be attractive but what do we have borders and custom for? Look at how Buhari skillfully avoided all those greedy marketers with few modifications. I know subsidy can be done well and will always support strengthening of the system before attempting to transfer extra cost to the consumers.

No she isn't.

The woman had good ideas...like removing fuel subsidy, and also trying to get Nigeria off oil.

And I must tell you that on subsidy, she was supported by the now Emir of Kano...who even after GEJ left office continues to back subsidy removal.

She had good ideas for our economy...problem is, Nigerians seem to think that we should have everything for free. That's not how to run an economy.
I opposed the subsidy removal in 2011 ending not because I wanted things to be free but wanted the govt to sit up and manage things better. Saying oil sector must or ought be privatized for better service is the biggest lie we told ourselves in that whole oil subsidy and supply issue.

As long as the north is in charge of this country and feel entitled to oil proceeds, they were always going to retaliate after the ND amnesty.
They see something they are better chanced and equipped to use ( violence ) being used to bring money into a subdued ND, and as expected the northern big wigs decided to start a counter violence up north. The difference is that ND amnesty was given to the people fighting while northern amnesty was never official and went to the big wigs.
Of the $2bn shared under PDP, Buhari hasn't been able to show us where the bulk of the money went to today. He is just chasing few men who got less than 4% of the whole money.

Education › Re: Why Late Aminu Othman Zubairu Spent 22 years On PhD by CodeTemplar: 11:17am On Apr 10, 2019
Chukwuka16:
No sir. PhD takes different formats depending on the nature of research and institutional policies.

If you do the normal thesis style where you have to write up from abstract through succeeding chapters to conclusion then 6 semesters is usually common. You find this method in Nigeria and the UK.

The PhD by publication route can be 1 year or 2 years (or less) depending on the policy in play. The requirements are a number of excellent publications, an introduction/co-ordinating chapter, maybe a linking introduction to each paper (half a page) and a conclusion. You just bundle your papers and the introduction chapter and you submit. Mine followed that route and took me 17 months. This is common in South Africa and some countries in Europe. In the UK some universities offer this route too. The papers however must be top notch (high impact factors and well ranked using SJR/ABS). The assumption is that since the papers have been peer reviewed and accepted by the academic community, the candidate can be said to have been assessed.

For the UI issue, forget them. I visited Unilag recently and I cant just continue to thank Oluwa who lives in heaven for delivering me and my generation yet unborn from frustration. So I would have been a frustrated academic at this young age in a system that has decided within itself not to work? And it's so bad that in a short time you get lost in the useless culture they have created that you do not even realise after a while that time has gone. Imagine a department have 7 senior lecturers who have not been able to get promotion in at least 2-3 promotion cycles because they have mostly conference papers and now find it difficult churning out the required 18 journal papers. How will a young L1 hope to get promoted if his interviewers are still stagnant on SL? That is when you would hear something like "cant you see that your seniors are not moving? Go and respond to external advert."

I have seen students being bullied by lecturers. I have even seen lecturers being bullied by senior lecturers/profs. The system promotes mediocrity alot that the good eggs get suffocated. My advice to anyone joining the academic system in Nigeria - government or private is to be careful. Colleagues from both divides have stories of woes to tell. Ah, God I thank you that I didn't make that decision to go and perish in Nigeria. It would have been a disastrous one. Today, I appreciate what it means to be an academic and have what is called somebodiness. No one is there threatening me or exercising some jurisprudence over my career/future. How and when I progress is entirely my responsibility. I am respected for my achievements and given all the resources I need to function well.

It is only in Nigeria especially UI that a MSc student will write a paper and be third author. How will that paper ever count in his academic sojourn? It's only in that Nigeria that you would see students afraid to approach lecturers because they have turned themselves into tin gods. They thought I was a dead case. They didn't know I was a seed. When they buried me, I germinated. Today, I'm like that proverbial bone that cant be swallowed or vomited. They imagined that I would come begging cap in hand. Today I see their messages and just laugh. Kai, humans can be funny. Who do these lecturers think they are sef?

Look at Ayoola talking. If trumpet blows now baba knows that he will be on Express train to hell! Has he finished terrorising us to buy that his plagiarized textbook for ODE? Nonsense. Hypocrite of the highest order. And you have the efforntery to call God? Bloody hypocrite. If Zubair delayed his PhD, the late Payne also delayed his promotion too abi? Liars.
I hope the Payne you are referring to isn't the one that worked in CU around 2007 in Maths dept. If he is the one, then I really hope he changed his ways before anything bad happened.

That team remains the best Nigeria has ever produced.

I agree that a street should be named after the squad in every street, no matter if the street is fine or not.

Kudos to NFF for this honour.

Sad that Keshi, Uche Okafor, Rashidi Yekini, Thompson Oliha, and Wilfred Agbonavbare are no longer with us.

the team achieved the highest FIFA ranking position ever achieved by an African football team. (fifth) incidentally in April 1994 - exactly 25 years ago.

Clemens Westerhof and the Babangida regime deserve credible mentions for their role in developing the team.

Westerhof was given enough time to work on the team despite the early challenges the team faced.

Westerhof took charge of the team immediately after losing the Italia '90 World Cup ticket to Cameroon, taking the team to the finals of the Algiers '90 Nations Cup and four years later winning the Tunisia '94 Natiins Cup and getting the team into the second round of USA'94 World Cup.

The support for Westerhof and the team by the government, in my opinion, was unprecedented.

I don't recall Babangida being at the stadium to watch any match but Admiral Augustus Aikhomu was always there.

Air Commodore Emeka Omerua (the comedienne Chigurl's father) was sports minister then.

I've always wondered why airforce officers were put in charge of the sports ministry in those days - Omeruah, Bayo Alfa, Anthony Ikhazobor.

Thinking back now, I just realised that all of this was in the midst of the June 12 saga. Hmm...
I like that bold part. We have been avoiding true preparation and unbiased selection of players but expect our team to perform always. We may never see a team like that 94 team if we don't wake up.

There is something some persons call the prophet's seed. One of the way God has structured connection to His prophets is via communicating all good things to them(Galatians 6:6) and we all known money answereth to all things or in lay man's term, money is the exchange of medium of all good things.
So a breif summary is this, even some known pastors you call GO who aren't under Oyedepo ministries, pay seeds to him regularly.
That's why I laugh when folks are crying over tithe. If you know what some people pay as prophet's seed alone, you may overheat your brain in 5 minutes.

The North does have good Higher Institutions too, you know. Implying that a 'proposed' specialized Higher Institution by WCW is the North's Opportunity to have 'Something Worthwhile' is Demeaning. Unless of course you are joking.

If you aren't then Consider that...

WCW institutions are good, matter of fact, Very good. However there is a tendency to bring other institutions down in a bid to show how good these Institutions are. I don't know if this is subconscious BUT it is not necessary.

Nobody needs to be bad for you to be good. said differently, You can be good without Implying how beneath everyoneelse around you is/ must be. That's if those people are actually bad in the first place.
By Nigerian standard they have some heavy weight institutions but I honestly don't think those can match what winners will bring in.
