Thank God, His mercies stay forever! Was 300L first semester some many years ago. Was a SHELL scholar, young and dangerously indulged in gambling. Wasted more than my sponsorship and what my parents capacity could carry before it was mid-semester. Popsie didn't know his favorite son was a gambler, but out of deep concern for my endless demands for money, he reminded me of the son of whom I was and added that at that rate, I may drop out. He gave me some small change to go manage. Because, I loved my dad and seeing how worried I was making him feel, I decided I would change. Unfortunately, I went back to gambling and lost everything under a week, about 2 weeks to exams. Nonetheless, I decided not to go back home and approached a female friend to assist with feeding me till the end of the semester. .Babes agreed on the condition that she would always sit beside me all through the exams. In my small mind, I felt relieved until exams started and a new seating arrangement saw male and female course mates writing in different halls. When, after the first paper, I went to her place to see if my stomach could get some palliatives, babes simply told me our agreement stood nullified by the new enforced seating arrangements. I quite understood and left very worried. Implications was that while others who had supplies settled to prepare for exams, I was wandering like a herdsman looking for someone to just help with a meal. Painfully, quite a lot of peeps I went to dismissed me as simply wanting to disturb their concentration and preparation since they say I was bright. Hungry beat me tire! There was this course I was an authority in, and its date came. I was in the hall having had just two handful of garri and some water for breakfast and was already seeing angels and demons. Papers were shared, I read the questions; things I would have aced on a good day. But see me! I could not prepare because I was wandering all over the campus looking for someone to feed me a meal. I could not answer any question! In desperation, I was begging a coursemate to assist me with answers. He declined, stressing that he didn't want rustication for exams malpractice. Seeing what gambling did to me and knowing that it was hunger that brought me to that sorry position, na so I burst cry inside hall; got up went to submit my papers and left. I had a GPA of 2.11 as reward for my indiscretion. |
Kondomatic:I love the way you handled your debt recovery. You're the total man mehn. Would say I have learnt lessons with lending money anyways. Most times, when people come to borrow money that they intend to use to solve some personal or family/domestic problems, or a crisis situation in their businesses, chances are they're most likely to default on agreed timelines for repayment. In cases like that I help in ways I can. Like a paddy needed me to assist with a sizeable chunk of his rent because he was facing the threat of eviction. Promised to pay back. I just laughed and asked what job he did that'll help him generate a savings from which he intended to pay me. Las las, I promised and gave him the fraction I could sacrifice as my contribution and that settled it! The last person which situation looked like he borrowed money from me has severely damaged our friendship, though I ensured I got back my payment. He was a link to disposing some goods he previously sold to me which I found pretty difficult to sell. At the same price he sold to me about 7 months earlier, he sold to the new buyer but chose to feed me with incredible stories for three months until I lost my cool. I simply highlighted the steps I would take to get my money in a message to him (none was considerate) and promised him I would graduate from one to the other should he fail to retrieve my money and pay back. Man that was avoiding my calls for almost a month reached back and gave a date. He repaid a day after the deadline date he gave. |
Odidigboigbo:Sorry, I can't exactly situate if they're a Federal or State agency, but those dirty nuisances on white vs black uniforms in Delta are State employees. However, my view was expressed in the light of a mention of a violation of state traffic law, R9, in the article/judgement. The last paragraph. |
DubaiLandLord:My knowledge of the law is limited, but I don't think so. Ruling was delivered in the light of the extant traffic laws in Delta State at the time the case came up in 2014. Problem now is, in the light of this judgement, if they still wish to continue the extortion, then an amendment to the law would be made at the DSHA and that settles the matter going forward. .......and to tell you za truth: e no reach them do! |
Now see me thinking aloud: If those money and weapon weren't gifted to those bandits to fester the rampaging insecurity in the land, then.......the Army sadly has lost its Infantry 'combat' capabilities. This is very worrisome. |
oluwaseyi0:You're wise! |
firstworld:God bless you! How some people think with all the stress we face with living in Nigeria, that we can accommodate drills of " sitting on the hot seat" like someone on "Who wants to be a Millionaire" show beats me. You call someone without introducing yourself, and possibly goes ahead to ask the person to confirm his identity or location in these times of criminal/unlawful tracking; hypnotic calls etc and think you're justified to continue some senseless drills because you bear good tidings? Not a lot of people would be patient to see the end of such conversations. Nonetheless, I am not sure I like it when asked "who's this?" as opposed to "may I know who's speaking?" |
Subsidybad21:Like you, I've always been against sustaining the subsidy regime and its scam because of the benefits inherent for greater good of the country. Sad this revelation is coming out again. When some months back, the Minister of Finance was talking about how the government had achieved the milestone of a total removal of subsidy, I simply laughed and asked if she wasn't fooled by the convergence of prices due to low crude oil prices caused by the oil supremacy battle between Russia and Saudi-Arabia. Now that oil prices are testing new highs, their pedestrian understanding of the subject and their absolute confusion is exposed for all to see. For as long as these people keep insisting on subsidizing fuel like they do to their almajiris, our liberation as a country would be somewhere very far in the future. |
Switchman:Evidently, some people would have to experience some discomfiting situations personally to appreciate some advise some of us forerunners have given for free. . My brother, to the extent that you resigned to take the option to relocate following some issues with your employment (even though you said it could have be ironed out), I have no qualms with your moving to cohabit with her while hoping to land a job soon enough. To be consigned to doing chores to assist on the interim is to be expected especially if one is reasonable. To the bad mouthing....... . Just know again, that women aren't exactly wired to be breadwinners. The few that take those roles in their strides and don't rain down hell are an exception. It won't stop, until you are able to be a financial member in the union.Just like some others have advised, create a timeline save up to be on your own or to return back to Lagos. It could get worse! Though the background to my experience isnt same as yours, but I was thrown out in three days! Pele. All shall be well! |
DrFunmisticGlow:Quite a sorry situation caused by no fault of theirs. Hope he pays greater attention to our reasonable suggestions to placate his wife while working to earn more. If he realizes that what he tenders for upkeep is what some folks with lesser number of kids use to power generators in a month, then he would show more understanding for the frustrations coming from his wife. God help him |
oceanized25:Nice comment sir! Problem is that 55k is insufficient to run a home with three fragile babies (nor to talk of the 25k he recently reviewed it to). He needs to plead for more understanding from his wife while he consciously and urgently works on earning more. Else, the frictions would continue until she make good her threat. |
obama30:Handing him over to authority is a big goof by the OPC. That, they would realise in the coming days. That said, the onslaught should be sustained on those jihadists until our land is rid of them. |
tishbite41:Unfortunately, if you're man with some conscience, in these type of situations, there comes a time where you'd rather be jobless than keep asslicking to keep a job that would not be worth it when the day of reckoning comes. The security situation of the country really scares me, yet it keeps getting worse because government are now openly acting as enablers. I hardly do interstate travels because I can't imagine being caught in a hostage situation, a terrible situation whose probability seem to have risen to like 3%. I would be doing a bit of farming this year with the hope to be substantially invested in farming next year and you know what? With the security situation currently, procuring arms and ammunition seem to be as important as getting improved seedlings and farm equipment. It's that bad! |

MejiLoyon: Beautiful lessons of life! For ATM, not later than 2yrs ago, one fattie dey kinda mark two queues thinking say im smart. As devil dey work, one relatively skinny guy con dey try draw money, na im fattie say e for be im turn instead. Bobo look am and just calmly say "your body dey deceive you". Fattie para, begin dey rake say na things like this make am kill person six years ago. The other guy just laughed and calmly asked: " if dem set the two of us, you sure say you fit beat me? That was it! Fattie charged at d guy, and everyone initially urging them to keep the peace gave them space. Within 40s, that fattie that was like a dogon barrow of Dangote Cement was already on the ground receiving deadly blows from someone he had grossly underrated. When the Mopols guarding the bank separated them and punished them for being unruly, Bigman left in shame without even making the withdrawals he came for. See laugh that day! |
TainyLite:Thumbs up with the humility of committing to patch things up. It can be hard work I know. But the placenta, .......what's the fuss about it. Is there a cultural or doctrinal impediment consequent on not burying it yourself or with your approval? I ask because my daughter was given birth to in a city close to a hundred kilometers from my home (my in-laws city of residence), I'm sure I was asked what to do with it and I asked that they bury it wherever they see fit. Thankful for that moment, revelling in the joy of being a tot's daddy and asking for mercy and favour to not fail in my duty as a father took all my energy. My brother, pls be happy for the new member added to your FAM and try not to allow the resentment of your wife stop you from loving your little big man. |
Prussian:Yeah, thought I read about the appointment of up to 300 aides in one instance, less than 2yrs ago. On a lighter note, so that governor's budget of "peristaltic cataclysm" does not even factor in the salaries and entitlement of aides to warrant one frustrated one contemplating suicide? This is the bane of Nigeria: men lacking both vision and good conscience positioned in strategic places working tirelessly, like the devil their father, to hold us down or drag us back. People asked why he didn't resign while I think the proper question should be why did he take up an appointment as the aide of a governor with almost 400 others in what has turned out to be a huge clownish stunt. Well, it takes real wllpowe to walk away from such madness and I suspect dude stayed put because he thinks government can, at worse owe but is certain to pay. Guess he's learning hard lessons with the situation his family is as well as the debts/loan he secured to facilitate his appointment. I empathise with him and hope his threat of suicide could force a payment of his arrears so he can find something sane and decent to do with his life. |
PotatoSalad:Beautiful submission, my brother! Except, people would like to admit that it's preferable a member of your family cons you out of your money than some other random street girl, by whatever categorization. Life has taught me to be quite cautious with both family and lovers (thank God I'm married now). For family, left a small business for a favorite younger brother to supervise, way back, while I travelled to another State for IT. I almost returned to meets its ruins. Left another for another brother to sustain himself in the university while I left for greener pasture, he simply abandoned it and supervised it's death! Friends? One experience stands out. A friend introduced his cousin to me who duped me in a signed partnership. Babes? , a standout betrayal was when sister scatter ground say no be me pay for furniture for her flat at the point of a breakup. E funny me gan! I shrugged it off, called it bad gamble and moved on. So, you would see, that it's pretty difficult to extract loyalty once financial dealings are involved because the other party may because of filial connections, friendship or romance treat your agreement(s) with levity. I just love the way Boda Emma has chosen to play: get her arrested and start litigation. Thank God for that Magistrate as well, #3m for her bail and two sureties in like sum (I think that sums up to #9m). Then April, case comes up for mention while she stays remanded in Kirikiri prison (dem say na correctional facility) .By the time the case experiences only 3 adjournments, she may have spent a year in prison already and trust me, that guy she bolted with may have abandoned her to her fate. God punish her the case drags for longer than 3yrs, then with that picture of Mary right there, I doubt she'll find someone new to marry. Emmanuel should take heart. Shit happens! But ensure, he severely deals with that thief using the full extent of the law so as to deter some other ojukokoro aspiring thieves. |
You just love it when women report domestic issues,........they're never in the wrong! ![]() Nonetheless, I could advice from your narration already. Lady, please end that mock marriage youve been experimenting with by cohabiting with that guy for over a year now. The revelations are damning and are a pointer to what disaster the both of you would make of the marriage institution. To a large extent, I agree with your boyfriend about being put-off by the unwillingness of a working spouse to contribute to the running of the home while also being jolted by his rather open clamour that you share the bill in a certain ratio. But you see, where you said he eats 5times a day (someone who supposedly goes to work) while you eat one and a half time a day is the deal-breaker for me. Shows you would be comfortable even if he decides to eat like a chicken but provided he doesn't bother you with requesting your contribution (a working woman). Please kindly leave his house; get your apartment; be totally responsible for yourself while you await someone else that has no qualms with being totally responsible, in a relationship/union, with a woman that earns but yet is unwilling to contribute to the welfare/wellbeing of her home. |
Jerryherd:Make God no allow your level of wisdom go down, Amen. Guess, he's also the spokesman for the Boko/ISWAP collabo as well. Don't you just feel a seeming sense of hopelessness when a supposed "Army spokesman" starts peddling rumors when he should be telling us what progress they've made in their onslaught against those terrorists. I wish them well |
When they state their sadistic positions on issues, often imposing it as that of "Arewa", they fail to realize they are mere mortals. May God forgive his errors and accept him into His eternal rest. |
tuoyoojo:Not sure there would be any protestation. At least we have the period 2015-2023 to cite as a precedence. |
JovialJune:More like it now. Abajo, a thousand mosquitoes feasting mercilessly on me over a 3yr period could not admit me to hospital for malaria. |
FanOfMyself:Except you'd insinuate I went for a confirmatory test, ...that year, while in Warri, I dreaded nighfall because I am always host to tens of mosquitoes which found their way to my room from mainly through the floor drain in the bathroom. These animals feasted mercilessly on me for upwards of three years, mainly causing me only discomfort during the night but never sending me to hospital. .....and yes! I'm AA. I very rarely fall sick and don't get those bouts of malaria you talked about. |
Toneyo:Sorry for the agony this wilful concealment of vital information, without remorse, has caused you. What do I say other than.......all shall be well. Unfortunately, withholding vital health information seems commonplace when people want to get married and this is usually caused by desperation fuelled by factors like age, social standings and maybe prospects. See me here, my wife came in with eye problems and one other debilitating health condition which wasn't disclosed at any point before marriage. We're managing it, but it hurts to discover when you are totally handicapped in taking a stand. God be with you, my brother. |
pragmatistm:I may be ignorant, but, is it a matter of rule that AAs fall sick often? I'm of the AA genotype but very rarely fall sick. |
Nuzo1:I very much agree with you about making the arrest after today. Or is this some kind of conspiracy with the police to play on our intelligence? Simply put men on his trail and arrest him after midnight, dem no fit. If I say I no tire for Nigeria Police ......na lie I lie. |
Having accessed credit from lending institutions a coupla times before 2020 and having regard to the fact that I successfully navigated those periods, I have a bit of a problem with not taking a loan to repay one that's subsisting. Basically, a borrower who aims not to be in the debt dragnet for a period longer than necessary should pay particular attention to the lending rates, the repayment period as well as penalties for default on repaying his loan while also honestly factoring his cashflow and its capacity to pay back his debts without substantially disrupting his lifestyle and wellbeing. Let me buttress why it isn't entirely bad to repay a loan with another, other things (caahflow position), being equal: assume you borrowed #xy from a MFB at 60% interest rate p.a and later on found an opportunity to borrow same amount from a cooperative society at 10% interest rate p.a, after some months, who says it's not wisdom to borrow from the cooperative to clear your balance with the MFB? Anyone seeking loans, except they originally set out to defraud/stress their creditors, should be clear with the terms and ensure they have the capacity to repay so everyone can have peace! |
Someone I know fairly closely. Such a great loss this is for the Winners family. May God forgive his shortcomings and accept him into His rest and well as grant his young amazing family the fortitude to cope with the loss. Rest in peace, brother Elliot. |
Ah! Now this is strange, asides being very tragic for the family. May God grant, the ones left to mourn them, the courage to move pass this grief. |
TransAtlanticEx:Such ruthless bombardment! Bros, calm down biko. Its quite rankling how some people seek out to demean others. She didn't say well. |
khiaa:pls be calming down! Good thing is, everyone is entitled to their views and should feel free to take a position on a matter, or shift same in the face of new evidences or superior argument. Walahi, Trump dey fall hands! Funny enough it did not start today and the man has stayed consistent in his bad habits. I eagerly await how the full extent of the law would be applied in dealing with him when this saga closes. |
