We got here because pretty much everything you and I consume is made abroad and imported. We wear tm Lewis and Thomas pink, we all strive to wear Louboutin, all the cars, doors to houses, watches, electronics etc are imported. Even when we have in innocent, we all prefer Benz, when we have local pampers we prefer foreign pampers, even though we have milo we prefer imported ovaltin, though we have nasco cornflakes and biscuits we prefer Kellogg and mcvities......... and on and on and on. |
TPAND:That's not correct. Power capacity from our gas powered plants is far in excess of hydro capacity. Kanji is our biggest hydro and at best can do only 760Mw. However Egbin and Alaoji are both in excess of 1000mw and are both gas. I can count at least 6 other power plants that are in to 400 to 500 my range. |
This is for new adopters. What about those of us who already have? No new packages? Any way I haven't loaded my smile since December. Smile currently has the worst data value proposition in the whole country for both Gsm and LTE. Spectranet gives 2 times the Gb of smile and cyberspace 3 times (not sure of swift since they ain't in ph) and it's not like they are significantly faster than spectranet. Also waiting for ntel. My "Smile" has turned into a frown! |
The drop can never be due to only one reason. I would expect that all the reasons given on this thread are correct to varying degrees. It's a pity we don't have proper statistics in this country. It would have been useful to know exactly how much less cars there are on the streets, how much less people are showing up to buy petrol in jerry cans for generator and how many people are leaving cars at home or car pooling. |
wayodude:Only £50 ke? I would go as high as £5000! |
Wildrage:I totally agree with you! Doing either of them in 2 years would be a stretch even in China with their renowned efficiency. In Nigeria it is 100% impossible. Consider that we have not even secured the right of way, much less design, talk less of construction. |
Lol @ ice cream! But really the lack of critical thinking and aggressive action in this country baffles me. |
Below is a link that details how an international airport in India has become self sufficient in electricity by developing solar panels over 40 acres of its unused land. The project delivers 12MW, cost $9.5m and took 6months!! What I wonder is with chronic power shortages in Nigeria, why have we not gone the route of large scale wind and solar? I know it's not automatic, but an extrapolation of the example above means a 1000MW solar plant would cost circa $775mln. Surely we can use some of the recovered loot for that! http://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-india-34421419 |
Airtel clearly does double billing for data. My data manager says I have used 2.1Gb. Airtel says I have used 3.9Gb. Almost pelrfectly double. Something wrong somewhere. NCC, these are things you should be looking into o! |

naturalwaves:Most of them on badoo are guys mind you! They are posing as girls and trying to extort money for "transport" |
greatgod2012:Why didn't Gej do the clean up himself and score bigger goals for himself politically. |
Miscellaneous:Even if he said so N ko? Have you never made a threat before? I have told someone before "..... if I catch you I will kill you...." and I was quite angry, but does that mean I killed anyone? |
wordychap:So in short a country should succumb to the will of common criminals?? Are you listening to yourself? I am sure you are educated? So you would rather spend 12 years schooling and then come out of school to be told that national resources that could have got you a job have been used to pay Tompolo and Co? I hope you realize that the problem we have now with kidnapping is because the government negotiated the first time and suddenly of became easy business. Why do you think America doesn't negotiate with terrorists? Let me tell you even if Niger delta seceded today in 30years time nothing would have changed much . Why? The people will still be chanced by their useless political leaders. I have seen several protests to shell, total and agip gate because communities have no water or road. I have never seen a protest to government house for the same agitation. |
coolzeal:I doubt that it would make a difference. Why? Via the same bloody politicians you have now would still steal all the money. The problem is not more states or regional systems versus state! It's simply because we have useless leaders at every level. |
I think we should consider importing gas. If it were me I would create a receiving facility at the lekki free trade zone and send the gas via pipeline to the power plants that are outside the Niger delta like geregu, omotoso, egbin, papalanto, and others. Mambilla would also get very high priority from me as well as large scale solar and wind power. Surely with the plenty sun up north we have solar potentials. A 500MW solar plant can be up and running in 18months if we move very fast. Also with the Harman tan wind that blows in from the Sahara at that time of year, I would think we have good wind potential too. Also we have to enable investors in new power plants to sell directly to specific discos instead of sending everything to an inefficient national grid first. For eg a solar plant up north could make sense if I would be able to sell directly to Abuja disco. |
omenka:Very good question. I wonder why we are this bad |
Montaque:If anyone has actually returned money, doesn't that suggest something? Besides the list doesn't necessarily have to be corrupt Nigerians but Nigerians who have returned money. Let the courts then determine corruptibility. That's how I would pitch it anyway. |
thesicilian:Wow!! This is the quote of the day!! |
todayboy:Are you educated at all?? Where in Ogoni land is a water way that anyone is dredging for big ships to pass? To pass to where? This types of senseless thoughtless statements are not welcome at all. Which Fulani man was even given the contract? People just go online and talk trash. Education is not just having a degree, it's more of making use of knowledge and logic to make rational choices. There is no rational or logical reasoning in your comment in the context if the discussion topic. |
Not a bad idea if well thought through and implemented. |
I actually wonder why FG had not gone all out for solar.Or why our Genco's and Disco's haven't collaborated to set up some fairly large solar farms in the north. |
Gaddafithe2nd:Trust me, you go soon run leave them again. |
Hmmm mm! I wonder if the rest will follow Glo's price lead here. We all know the reason for it is because they have the shittiest, most unreliable network. Airtel, MTN and Etisalat must be hoping none of the other makes a move, cos if one goes the others must follow. That said though, it's not really costing them much (if any) more. What I've observed is wheen people get more data for the same price, they use it more and then back to square one at the end of the month. Besides the fact that it's monthly means they will still get roughly the same amount in as much as they keep in touching distance with the competition. This is what competition should bring about. Though I also notice that the quality of the data networks is getting slower and slower. Even the baba of before, etisalat, is not as fast and zippy as it used to be. |
The impunity in this country is really becoming worrying. For me we are suffering the incompetence and in discipline of the police force for years now. Nigeria is one country where nobody fears or respects police because we are used to bribing them. |
Internet on all the networks seems to have been slow of recent! I could almost swear by etisalat before, but even they are messing up a bit now. |
Meanwhile our Minister for Technology says that Nigeria will soon be self sufficient in the manufacture of pencils. Hip Hip Hooray!!!!! |
There must be like 20,000 Danfo and Molue in Lagos. Are there enough of these buses to cater for that number? |
kingstylo01:That must be Barcelona |
How does a currency devaluation boost local stock prices? |
NLEFCC:We should consider a British man for president sef! After all, we have done a useless job by ourselves since 1960!! |
mrvitalis:Negotiating the first time with militants and kidnappers was a big mistake because of opened up a totally new industry. However, we are past that now. Buhari needs to tread carefully going forward. I don't support conceding to militants, but all out military action is not the answer either. Like it or not, the oil for our forecast and the gas for our power plants come from there and Nigeria is on its knees currently. |
