I'm confused! Why do we need a greenfield Expressway from Abuja to ibadan and then to Lagos? What happened to the existing route? Surely that would be easy cheaper. And who needs a 27 storey building? I thought we'd hear more about hydro power projects. The only thing that I see that really makes sense there is the solar power plant and the red train line in Lagos |
Looks reasonably well built. Probably the worst built mall I've seen in Nigeria is the one at ring road Ibadan, with their undulating car park. The best is probably Ikeja mall. |
Not particularly fast! Airtel network send to have slowed down again of recent |
I'm impressed. So there is actually a trial going on. |
Is Mtn planning to launch a 4g network? |
So if FG no longer intends to subsidise PMS, it should go to the next step and fully deregulate and open up the sector for anyone to bring in product and sell, or better still set up refinery cos importing the product still consumes our scarce forex Or maybe we bear this brunt until Dangote refinery opens in 2018? |
I wonder what's keeping glo from fixing it's shitty network. These complaints of fluctuating network have been on for years across the nation yet no upgrade: |
martyns303:This is so untrue!! I live in port Harcourt andbi don't know which roads you refer to that are dilapidated. Let me remind you of the roads Amaechi dualised Old ABA road Rumuola road Trans Amadi road to slaughter Stadium road Elekahia road Stadium road - rumuola link road Okporo road Azikiwe road (by government house) Forces avenue Nnlg road to Eastern by pass roundabout The road that passes beside rainbow town The other end of elekahia road to nlng axis And I'm sure a few more in parts of town I don't visit and NONE of these roads is dilapidated!! |
They should just remove the damned subsidy. |
londoner:I thought it was only me wondering!!! |
But really Nigeria sef!! How hard can it be to put in place the processes to make sure that refuse is picked daily and that people pay for the evacuation. It's really just the manifestation of a brainless government. |
41lady:Dude, just to clarify most countries where you have unlimited WiFi for that kind of price, the internet is delivered to you by wire and then you use a modem in your house for WiFi. Here in Nigeria data is delivered by base station which needs power to run round the clock so you can never expect the same kind of service. If nitel had survived till now maybe we'd have same too. |
For me the real issue is how the funds generated would be used and not the tax in itself. To be honest, oyinbo land (which we all look up to and wish our country was like ) is so much more advanced for 2 main reasons. They raise sufficient revenue through taxes and they are competent and judicious to use the money well. For a country in our predicament, it's expected that taxes will have to go up. When Spectranet increased prices recently it probably didn't stop that many people from continuing to use it. Likewise Dstv has increased prices quite a few times over the last 10 years or so and Nigerians haven't stopped using it so I doubt the 9% will really break anyone's back. Inconvenient yes, absolutely unbearable, no! So I say again, the real issue is judicious use of funds. |
It would appear the data leaderboard in Nigeria for the gsm companies is as follows: Etisalat Airtel Mtn Glo |
I certainly ain't trying it until I'm sure |
Checked Airtel website and their SMS menu and this plan isn't there no! Hope it's not one of those many fake plans we see on nairaland. |
Wasn't the guy a former sports presenter or something. I think I used to hear that name on radio. |
Don't be fooled! I subscribed to it and within 2 weeks my data was finished. I checked my data manager app and it suggested that I had used only 1.2Gb. Called Airtel and they told me that usage on bb and android isn't the same!! |
I also agree that Airtel browsing speeds have increased significantly over the last 6 months or so, especially at evening/night when I routinely get about 10mbps. This is right in etisalat territory. If I rate internet quality it would be as follows: Etisalat 1st Airtel close 2nd Mtn distant 3rd Glo even more distant 4th Though I concur that Mtn and glo could be faster for some u users based on specific location, but generally these rankings are in order. |
@OP, supported. Glo internet is horrible in port Harcourt. Have tried it several times and always run back to etisalat. They know their network is crappy hence the plenty data they give. But what is the point if no one can use it. Quality is indeed better than quantity. |
solid3:And what is your evidence that petrol from Kaduna is based on imported crude other than hearsay? Ibwould like to think this would have been in the news now if it were true. |
lomprico:That is incorrect. We don't pay the highest of everything. |
When did she suddenly become this fair. |
Odd!! How is a 3.75G network like etisalat and a 3.5G network like MTN faster than a supposed 4G network of Spectranet!! I get the impression the OP works with Spectranet and is kinda advertising. If so, this is feedback right in your face!! Was thinking of buying spectranet in pH, but if etisalat is faster, what's the point? |
Airtel may be trying to be funny. I subscribed to the N90 unlimited for 30 minutes bundle as a trial and I couldn't download jack. Could only browse low intensity sites like nairaland , Linda ikeji etc. Music streaming, Netflix etc didn't work. I'll give airtel the benefit of the doubt and try them again. If this happens again, then I'll know they are fraudulent and give up on them. |
goodlifehyd:It doesn't necessarily follow. A few nights ago i did a speed test on Airtel and got 13.3mbps. I did a similar test on Smile and got 7Mbps. A good 3.75G network can be better than a poor LTE network. |
Most countries levy radio and TV licence. It's in our laws too, but we don't implement it. The govt has obviously gone for a smaller tax that will be fairly easy to collect because the banks will do it for the fg. And this is the way tax should be. Small amount but with an extremely wide base so the total collected amount becomes much. |
SeanDada1:Oya go London na... and see how much you will pay in tax? My sister in UK has a decent job, lives a comfortable life, but I doubt she has £5000 in her account. If you earn N200k a month here you are more likely to be able to afford to go to UK more than she is able to come home. Because they pay so much in taxes, there is usually little left over each month. |
We are still all stuck on this concept of development being free!! Development comes at a cost people. We'd all like to relocate abroad but go abroad na and see how much oyinbo man pays in taxes. Then you'll know that Nigerians are grossly undertaxed! How many deposits do most of us here receive anyway? If you are working class you likely receive a bigger deposit a few times and withdraw more often. Too be honest it's not a bad move all things considered. |
PROVACATEUR:And why are you importing? Why not think if making something locally. |
The stadium should be knocked down and the land used for an entertainment complex comprising mall, park and amusement arcade. Some of the smaller sporting facilities like tennis courts, swimming pool, indoor sport hall etc should be kept and upgraded for members of the public to use for paying a fee, but the main bowl should go. |
MadCow1:Spot on! For those who don't know. |
