I bought a smile modem December 2014 and was indeed enjoying superfast speeds as promised. In those early days, my download speeds on speedtest were as high as 12Mbps.
Fastforward to as recently as 2/3 months ago and the speeds have crawled to as slow as 1.5 Mbps on average. On a good day I might get 2.5Mbps and on poor days it doesn't even get to 1Mbps.
I think it's really unfair for them to be marketing a service as super fast 4G Lte when I get faster speeds on Etisalat which is a 3.75G network. I get as high as 5Mbps on average with Etisalat.
NCC really should Wade into this as its getting really frustrating. I wish Spectranet or NTel would launch soonest in Port Harcourt as I will almost certainly switch.
redsconsult: i think julius berger also compounded more to our problem by over pricing and colluding with public officers to loot the nation dry a prj of 5billion naira by ccecc will cost julius berger 15billion of naira... ask akabio and fashola they will tell. that is more reason they have head offices in lagos and uyo. buhari empower and train our local contractors and dicourage this foreign looters.
The quality of a JB road and a ccecc road are not the same. Nobody in Nigeria comes close to jb's quality.
What on earth is a "super highway"? Shouldn't the government simply be focused on repairing existing roads?
Port Harcourt - Owerri is a road that needs serious attention. Port Harcourt - Enugu is another one that needs mega attention Lagos - Ibadan needs super dupa attention Benin - Shagamu while largely done, I understand still has a few small bad portions And i'm sure there are many more roads you more traveled guys out there can think off...
And here we are starting a brand new "super" highway......!!!!
I'm curios though! Are you guys telling me blogging is lucrative enough to enable some one buy a N800mln house? I know she makes money from lots of adverts on her blog, but even then.....!
If I were in government 2 sectors i would immediately work to improve the salaries of its staff are security forces (police, navy etc) and teachers. Lecturers and doctors may not be fantastically paid (compared to their peers in europe), but for now they are far better paid than normal teachers and police and too be honest cost of living in Nigeria is far lower than Europe anyway.
Even if the comment is correct and Audu is willing to return the "N11bln" he stole, what about everybody else under him who must also have stole? Its not just about the Governor!! Once a Governor is clearly corrupt, it mean the Governor has to close his eyes to everybody else under him who is also stealing.
Shouldn't the state government have put some strict measures in place by now to forestall these types of occurrences? We have had one too many by now. This is poor governance
I have for you a lovely 3 bedroom bungalow available for rent in iPent2 estate in Lokogoma district of the FCT.
Trust me, if you are looking for a house to rent in Abuja, this will suit you very well. The living room, dinning room, master bedroom and 2 other rooms are well designed with well finished tiles, all en suite bathrooms and a very lovely kitchen. believe you me, the ladies will love this kitchen - big and spacious.
The house will be fully finished in a matter of weeks.
I agree with the N46k minimum wage, but on the basis that staff must be rationalized and staff productivity raised and monitored. We have too many staff in our ministries, agencies and parastatals that do nothing all day and add no value. I went to the federal civil service buidling in Port Harcourt to renew my passport recently and the amount of immigration staff seen loitering or in offices doing absolutely nothing was mind boggling!!! And yet they continue to recruit!!!
Every job position must be assessed and SMART(Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and TimeBound) job descriptions given with Service Level Agreements..and published for that matter so that the public and the civil service administration can assess the level of productivity and mete out consequence management for those who fall below the standards.
Following 50 per cent drop in revenue, inflation and the high cost of living, the Federal Government has commenced the review of the Remuneration Act which will affect what the president, vice president, governors, and others will earn.
The review will also affect the remunerations of other political officeholders including the ministers, the National Assembly members and the judiciary.
Speaking exclusively to Daily Sun at the weekend, Chairman of Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), Elias Mbam, said the review is undergoing a process to determine whether it will be reviewed upward or downward.
He, however, noted that given the harsh realities on ground, the 2008 Remuneration Act must be reviewed.
“The commission is not insensitive to the realities on ground. There is a drop in the oil price, there is a general economic downward trend. Many states are even finding it difficult to pay salaries. In view of this situation, the commission has commenced the review of the remuneration of the present Act of 2008 and by the time we conclude, we will make public our position with regard to the new Remuneration Act,” he said.
Mbam said the commission will consider other things in tandem with what is happening in other parts of the world.
“The thing is that we are not working in isolation of other parts of the world. We are also looking at what is obtainable elsewhere. What is being paid in the private sector. What type of work do you do? What are the risks? Does the work require the allowance that you are earning? What are the shortcomings of the present Remuneration Act? What is the rate of inflation? So, it is not something you just say, increase or decrease. But certainly, there will be some changes,” he emphasized.
On the time-frame of the new remuneration law, the chairman said it should come up with a new proposal before the end of the third quarter.
“It is before the end of September because when we come out with our new proposal, it will still go through the National Assembly for the executive arm of the government. But for the legislators, our determined emolument is final. When we conclude, whatever we decide for the legislators is final. But that of the executive will still go through legislative process. But whatever they will decide finally will not be more than what the commission decided,” Mbam noted..
At the moment, the President earns N3.51 million per year, Vice President (N3.03 million), Minister (N2.02 million), Minister of State (N1.95 million) and Special Adviser (N1.94 million), Governor (N2.22 million), Deputy Governor (N2.11 million), and Commissioners (N1.33 million).
Be careful with the 15k per sec etisalat deal though as it seems you have go call for 60 secs at a stretch. If you make 10 30 sec calls you still don't enjoy the 15k per second cos none of the calls were past 60secs. They have obviously done their research and realised the there are lots of calls that don't last.more than 60secs
OKNkanu: Port Harcourt is a tourist’s dream destination. The city has been transformed into a stunning haven for business and tourism. With a wide variety of attractions and historical landmarks, you can spend a month in the ‘Garden city and not get bored. Port Harcourt is one those places where anyone can feel at home. Even if you are visiting Port Harcourt for the first time, you are not going to miss out of the dramas that the city has to offer you. It offers boundless opportunities for unforgettable experiences for locals and visitors alike. If you are yet to visit this multicultural city that is flourishing with affluent history and tourist attractions, here are 8 things you notice on your first visit to Port Harcourt:
1. Magnificent architecture and incredible vistas.
Port Harcourt is a city with urban pleasures; it offers a combination of outstanding architecture and incredible vistas, with natural beauty in an unspoilt coherence. The city has fascinating scenery and it’s beautiful at first sight; it gives you an amazing feeling – the kind that makes you feel like you just entered a place full of everyday fairy tale.
2. City of Hustlers
Everyone wants to have a taste of the quantum petro-dollar that comes out from Rivers state. There is no part of the city that you would not see people struggling to survive and pay off their different bills. This is one city that has a lot of smart people who can cut corners to achieve their goals. They all want to achieve a slice of the next big thing.
3. A Destination for Night Owls.
The night in Port Harcourt is the beginning of another day for the residents; you cannot miss the vibrant and exciting nightlife in the city. A lot of silent places in the daytime suddenly come alive with music and activities that drag night owls from their homes to hubs, joints and hotels.
4. Luxury Lifestyle
Port Harcourt lifestyle is themed by entertainment, expensive houses and cars, relaxation and rejuvenation. Everyone living in the city wishes for their own piece of the oil money to build their own paradise. Port Harcourt is a dynamic business domain and a well laid back city to enjoy life. The intimidation of wealth can easily be seen around and the various classes of people can be identified within seconds.
5. Port Harcourt is not as expensive as they say
The truth is things are not really cheap but that does not mean that Port Harcourt is notoriously expensive as rumours may have. You would notice that you can still get a lot of affordable things if you really know where to go for them.
6. The city is well laid-back
A lot of people coming here the first time may expect to find the craziness of rushing for buses or cabs. The commuters are calm and enter their choice of transport system in an orderly manner. This trait does not end only with its transportation but in every aspect of lifestyle of the people. We bet you that some Lagosians who are fond of rushing into buses would find this strange.
7. The Traffic Gridlock.
You just cannot miss the terrible traffic gridlock of this city. Some people may prefer Lagos when it comes to traffic gridlock. The reason is they can easily escape it with the Lagos Bus Rapid Transit System or even the new train system that is functioning now. Not in Port Harcourt. You just have to prepare your mind to be patient and literally move a little slower than a snail especially during the rush hours; morning and evening.
8. Transportation drivers are daredevils.
Impatience is the watchword for those on the road, apart from the market where everywhere looks rowdy; the major roads of Port Harcourt are filled with daredevils who have no regards to orderliness. You would notice cars comfortably climbing the pavements to run away from any looming traffic.
Ph a tourists dream destination!! What on earth are you talking about? Ph is a glorified slum of a city. Every part of every street is for traders to put tent and be selling stuff. I was really expecting a cosmopolitan city when I first came here, but was very disappointed the first time I came. Amaechi had even tried a lot for the city what with many road dualisations, other wise it would have been an even worse city.
Same thing happened to me. Bought the so called all purpose pack only to get a message that I am on Smalllie!! Glo is indeed a big fraud! If it had been a proper country, I'd have reported them to consumer protection body long ago.
Where is the internet to download all of these things? No unlimited internet for here o!! At least Swift and Spectranet users are better off with high data limits.
GMB needs 11 more states with at least 25%of votes cast to get to the finishing line. I expect GMB to win the simple majority in spite of whatever rivers, delta, edo, bayelsa and cross river throw at him. After all we still have sokoto, lagos, gombe, bauchi, yobe , zamfara, borno, adamawa and taraba to unleash!
discusant: But the asphalt thickness is very thin. It is a mater of months before water washes the road away, unless they have not done the final thickness of the asphalt.
Exactly! I hope they have used stone base to the proper specification otherwise the road will wash away in a year or two.
And by the way Tinsel is now CRAP!! No drama, no intrigue, no suspense, just same old same old week in week out. For suspense and drama, the produces of tinsel need to talk to the producers of Windeck!
Win deck was really good. The production quality was really impressive. I thought Tinsel was well directed and produced till I started watching Windeck! Pity why Windeck had to end so soon, there were still lots of opportunities for more story lines. I believe the producers may have run out of cash or sponsorship coz the last 2 to 3 episodes seemed rushed like they were in a hurry for everything to happen and wrap up the show.
The real question is how fast is the service? I'd rather pay a bit more if it would guarantee me good speeds and consistently too. I remember i started with Glo internet about 4 yeArs ago, but it WS so unstable that I abandoned it since then and I have n,ever tried Glo internet again. However if the speed is really fast and stable now, on the strength of this promo I might go back to them for my internet needs.
Really glad that the data price wars have kicked in...similar to the phone tariff wars a few years ago.
What I need now is for Etisalat to join the bandwagon and I'll be soooo happy!!! (cos Etisalat has the fastest and most consistently stable data network)
Based on the ph train pictures I've seen and the you tube video of the ikea train, the interior of these trains is comparable to what you see abroad.
However, the issue now is for how long with all this last? If it stays in the hands of the govt, I can guarantee that by 2017,they will all be non functional. Partly because of incompetent management and partly because I doubt N650 is sufficient to provide the cash flows required for this "business" to sustain itself ie pay salaries, maintain the fleet, and upgrade when necessary.
My solution is therfore to privatise the rail system, whereby private people can operate their own trains, while the track remains with the government (similar to airports).
While many Nigerians will shout at this because it will mean the N65p will have to increase, trust me it's better for this rail to work and for people to have the option to use it when required than for it to fall to pieces again in a few years. As we all know the federal government (or any govt in Nigeria) cannot manage jack properly!!
