Nurses and doctors are different career paths. Failing as a doctor doesnt mean you have a 2nd chance to become a nurse except you are ready to return to college/Uni for another 4 years to obtain a nursing degree.
Sure, they have different career paths but it's the next best alternative. A foreign trained medical doctor would not spend another 4 years in a college to become a nurse, there are special programs designed for them. I know so many Nigerian medical Doctors who fail the Board conversion examinations that are now working as qualified Nurses in USA.

err sir. I thought if one is caught living illegally you will be deported.

so if one goes to the us and wants to come back home all one needs to do is just present oneself to the police and that's all!
There is voluntary deportation but the person would be put in detention camp and the process could last six months or more.

Egusi is also local/African dish in NY.
Yah logic still don't apply tongue

It's of Public knowledge ad perception that Nigerian girls are called Local chicks by Nigerians in Diaspora.

An amazing fact, a girl who stays in the Rural part of Nigeria is even considered to be a local chick by a Girl who stays in the Urban part of Nigeria.

Like a girl residing in Mbano Village in Owerri, Imo State is seen mostly as a local girl by people who are resident in Ikoyi, Lagos .
Anyways, we agree to disagree
Local is an English word and it is not derogatory.

My guess is that she probably didn't pass the conversion exam and didn't want to get frustrated by working as a Nurse instead.

same here in Germany, people wont understand life abroad.forget the trash people who come home from abroad tell you.Your life abroad cud be miserable without papers.even people with papers are struggling, talkless of without papers, you cant do anything without necesary papers. You may end up being a slave to even fellow nigerians.Imagine nigerians enslaving fellow nigerians who dont have papers, you work and the money goes to them, you can even work freely on the street. You can be picked up by the police anytime and there is nothing you can do, you dont have the basic human right, somebody can kill you because you dont have any identity. You may end up being a sex slave to a white lady or even to a gay.Its really terrible, you cant even go to the hospital cos you dont have a document.no insurance covering you.Best way is to come in legally, you may come abroad seeing your an uncle who has left nigerian several years back being a modern slave abroad.lol
Nothing! Absolutely nothing would make me stay in any country illegally. Like someone posted earlier, if you can afford cost of passport, visa and air ticket you don't have reason to stay illegally in any country. The money can be better used for business here.

No, it's not.
Once something is within a particular home domain, it's refereed to as "local".

Same way the it would be correct for an American (while staying in Nigeria) to refer to a girls back home in the U S. as "local chicks".

Not lecturing English o, just relating what I understand.

This reminds me of when I travelled to Israel, somewhere in Jerusalem our guide told us to be mindful of the local drivers when crossing the road. Someone in the group was taken aback, he questioned him how come he was referring to his co Israelis as locals. I smiled and educated him. In every country we have the locals.

I had to sign in after 10years to comment on this distasteful thread. First, every one has a prerogative whether to help you or not. Even if one chooses not to help because of competition, it's their right. Nevertheless, IN America people barely have time for themselves not to talk of someone else. Parents live in the same city with their children but they don't see for months because of crazy schedule.

Secondly, I came to study in America six years back, and it didn't take two weeks before reality set in and I cried. I graduated two years after and I didn't get a job. Six months being jobless, I took up a dish washer job clearing plate for my mates who graduated with me. From there, I did laborer job, building stores and from there I did Valet, with MY Masters degree in Engineering and Bachelors in Electrical Engineering ( First Class, Best Graduating Student from Nigeria). Living on tips from people. All this was to pay house rent. As old as I am, I cry steady at night. Regretting I made a wrong choice coming here. But I couldn't return home just like that so I had to persevere ND pray to God to help me.

Interestingly, I helped a student from Nigeria to squat with me beforever getting her place. In less than a week, she was smoking Marijuana and worse off brought a guy to the house and the were snagging on my bed. My landlord, was mad about the weed and kicked us both out of the house. Helping someone got me homeless, as I couldn't afford to pay rent by myself. My sister, I sleep for Library for one week and God helped me. Even after I got my papers, I couldn't get a good job until recently. Imagine, 6 years! I thank God I am Inot a better place now but I have a credit card debt of $35,000. This is largely because I fell I'll and was uninsured. Infact them don carry me go court. While about 3,000 I used it to eat. So, when i starte dgetting pajd , i have to pay off my debt else interest will stack up to twice the amoint i owed. It is not easy!

My friend paid for marriage 15,000$ , two years after she withdrew his immigration petition. Imagine after hustling, pay and the money goes d9wn the drain. The guy is.now illegal and wants to commit suicide. Na beg we dey beg am. He doesn't have a steady job, and now he can't get work permit.

Haba, this girl you are very wicked to have this type of thinking pattern. So my dear sister stop being myopic with your thinking. If you want to support the whole of Africa go ahead. However quit generalizing and creating bad blood among kinsmen.

For those who want to come, if you don't have a support system have money to sustain yourwelf and don't expect favors from any one. Itso just you, your new company of friends and your God.
This is reason why I always tell potential illegal immigrants "that it is a crime to fall sick as an illegal immigrant".

I will even beg you to stay back in Nigeria cos if you come to UK at this point in time, you are doomed. Pls, don't let anyone or situation push you to go abroad-UK without papers. What you r going through in Nigeria today ll definitely be a child play compare to what your life ll look like in UK without papers.

I swear down, if you see the numbers of Nigerians in deportation centres in UK, you ll pity these people. Some Nigerians have been in deportation centres for almost two years without committing a single crime. Their only crime is being in UK illegally.

You can't go to the bank, school, work and renting a room might even give you away to immigration. If you decide to put up with a friend or family members, you r done cos they ll only tolerate you for few days before they begin to show you their true colour. Trust me, that's when you ll now realise that you don't know what you have until you lose it.

You ll only enjoy these western world with your papers in your hands. Anything outside this papers is a suicide
From not committing a single crime, to the only crime they have committed is staying in UK illegally. smiley wink cheesy

Let me add something. I know at least a dozen people who have lived here for 15 to 25 years and have not visited 9ja once. I'm sure you can imagine the main reason why they cannot visit. Meanwhile, relatives in 9ja believe they are gallivanting here.

Somebody I warned about potential difficulties here if coming if not planned properly has spent over 10 years here now. No means to visit 9ja till now. Back then she dismissed my warning as not wanting to help. Not seen her kids in 9ja for over 10 years now.
There are so many of them abroad, they call them "Aro" (cripple) in UK.

Bebe2,

To be honest it is not fashionable to be honest when dealing with our fellow Nigerians, especially if you live abroad. They start calling you enemy of progress.

I have actively discouraged Nigerians from coming to the West ANYHOW.

We know what we suffered back then. A close friend froze to death on the street, sleeping rough. It could have been me. Once money was exhausted, we had no place to sleep. His miserable death haunts me till today.

But when you tell people, they say "but you have made it now, you very fine now, it cannot be as bad as 9ja na, etc." I don't even know what "made it" mean in their imagination.

I always advice people to come as postgrad students, with enough money in their pockets. That way, even if they have to return home, the time wasn't wasted.

I have discouraged many social media "friends" from crossing Sahara desert with the help of a "sponsor" to Italy. Those who did not listen. They are paying off 30 to 50K Euros now doing prostitution. Some have been honest enough to say "I wish I listened to your advice".

Nobody is afraid of anyone. Many abroad just do not want others to make the mistake they made, either by abandoning their studies, travelling with anyhow documents, coming with tourist visa and overstaying, quitting a good job to travel abroad, etc.

An example: a cousin of mine worked for about 11 years in a first generation bank. He quit and came abroad. I just bumped into him one day. He jumped and hugged me. I did not recognise him right away, being tall & big guy now. He died here in diaspora a couple of years ago. He regretted his decision to travel abroad, despite having a wife and 3 kids here.

A friend also quit a first generation bank job to travel. He regretted it daily. He died of cancer here around 5 years back, leaving 4 kids behind.

Both lived abroad in regret, after quitting well paid jobs in 9ja. Those of us who left as teenagers took it more in our stride, after the difficult first few years.

People should be well informed before travelling. Not just anyhow, to any destination believing you can make huge money anywhere abroad.

We have ruined our name enough abroad: scam/fraud, drug trafficking, prostitution, etc. Mostly due to unplanned travelling out.
It's always not greener at the other side.

"Falling sick is a crime for illegal immigrants in Europe and North America" is my regular phrase for intending illegal immigrants.

I totally understand u,

But I do think for some pple traveling could be the only way out.

Now , I don't live in the USA so I can't tell wat illegals go through but in the uk they can get a job not legally though, and the smart ones will work 80 hrs a week quickly buy a small plot , build a one goat for their family back home . And u know once accommodation is settled , life is much easier anywhere in the world.

Getting in illegally does not mean one will never be legal. Once u are in u start to walk the ropes to settlement like millions of illegals before u.
Work 80 hours a week! Kilode?

This is getting annoying , how come each time a person is asking for directions on how to travel abroad most pple in diaspora will be discouraging the person.

If it's dat terrible why are u still there?

You enjoy the benefits of living in an organised society, knowing fully well that naija is a difficult place to live.

Are u scared of the competition the new immigrants will bring?

Nigerians in diaspora , what exactly are u afraid off??
Hmmnn, my take. Anyone asking for direction to travel abroad is neither ready nor ripe for such trip. I get amused when I read question like "Can I study in xyz country and pay my fees while hustling?". Someone wrote about Tanzania recently and was amused seeing Nigerians asking how they can go to hustle there, one of the poorest countries in the world.

At this Internet age, there are lots of information out that any serious potential traveller can easily get. There are so many countries that are willing to take immigrants but must have the financial means to do so. No country want economic refugees. There are no jobs every where, so these countries are more interested in immigrants that could create jobs.

By the grace of God, I have been opportuned to have travelled widely and from my experience I won't encourage those who wants to illegally stay in a foreign country. My first statement, usually is "do you know it is a criminal offense to fall sick as an illegal migrant?". In as much as it is not a criminal offence it is just to drive home the point that it would be hard to get medical attention when critically required.

Anyone that wants to migrate should do it with the confines of the law. Maybe 10 years ago, the risk could be worth taking but now, it's a "No, no".

I get amused when I read questions like this one below:
specialmati:
i want to travel to germany for masters pls what are my chance of making it there.my pastor said i should use that money and stabliz my business,my friend in uk said it not worth it.pls any advice.i wish to marry this year before going
