BrownCookie:You're welcomed. |
It is a job-hunting rule of thumb to carry out a proper research of a potential employer before honoring any invitation to a session primed with barrages of confidence-deflating questions coined softly as an interview. Everyone knows this. But if you don’t, now you do. A very well-conducted employer research ups your chances of landing a position in any organization. How? For starters, it makes you answer questions more intelligently and confidently. Not to mention that it can help tilt the conversation in your favour and you can through this employer research, sell yourself while stroking your interviewer’s ego. But how exactly do you carry out a good employer research? 1. Visit the organization’s website: A good employer research on the web is one where you are actively scanning for the company’s year of establishment, projects, announcements, promotions, awards and recognition, products and services, financial information, locations, divisions, departments, and subsidiaries. You will not believe the kind of information some interviewers expect you to know about their companies. This is why your employer research has to be solid. 2. Ask around: The motivation for this method of researching employers is to obtain information concerning company culture, values, salary scale, employee welfare and benefits, trainings and speed of progression on the company’s ladder. You won’t find this on the web so you should ask people that have worked, are working, or know someone who works there. This will better arm you for the interview. 3. Check out professional networking sites: Visit sites like www.insidify.com and www.linkedin.com to run a search on the company and see which of the people in your network work there when researching employers. You can then contact these people for more accurate information as regards the company and what to expect in the interview. 4. Do a background check on employees: Part of an impressive employer research is checking the background of top employees. You can also do the same for any other employee you know may sit on the interview panel. This can easily be done when you run a search on the company on LinkedIn. What you should look out for is what interests the employee and use that to your advantage in the interview. 5. Visit company review sites: Finally, you won’t also go wrong by visiting a company review site. What the site does is collect anonymous employee reviews of the company which could be on anything from company culture to salary and workloads. This information can be very useful to you during your interview. Source http://insidify.com/discovery/5-ways-you-should-research-employers-before-any-interview |
I only reprimanded you, I didn't insult you. Apologies if you found my post insulting. |
Great thread...let me add one important point. Identify what qualifies you for the role: It isn't only paid experience that counts. Voluntary or community involvement, work placements, coursework, personal projects and extracurricular activities can all be highlighted to show your suitability. Think from the employer's perspective – decide on the most interesting factors, where you have used relevant skills, and then make these prominent on your CV. For instance, this graduate CV highlights education and training, including achievements and endorsements, while this CV demonstrates how to emphasise project work above less relevant work experience. Breaking down each project into target, result and learned competencies shows relevant skills and achievements in context. |
This is serious...caracta come and see o! |
atop1:And when you set up your own business and your workers begin to display a nonchalant attitude towards the job and sleep on duty, don't complain cos you're reaping what you sowed during your days as an employee. |
Jonathan2787:So because your uncle couldn't get a job as a CSC graduate, you've already condemned yourself and what you're studying to the same fate...*smh* for you. Have you bothered to find out what your uncle's CGPA was? In this computer age where tens of thousands of people are rushing into the computer field for one professional course or the other to add to their CV, you're here saying you don't think its a marketable course. |
Cutehector:Lol abi |
CzarRex:The average Nigerian prostitute sleeps with 6-10 men per night. |
spicy244:Ever heard of the word stranded? |
omoadamo2010:My brother, there's nothing the government can do...these companies went through the due process of registering their company in Nigeria, they also pay tax to the Nigerian government. And you as employee's accepted all their terms and condition upon employment (including what you're now referring to as their ridiculous salary.) What I always tell people is that if you find yourself in any organization where you feel you're underpaid, you can always choose to resign and look else where. If you wait for the government to come to your aid you'll wait till eternity. |
SpellzEbaji:My dear, you don't choose a career path because your parents asked you to do so, you choose a career path because you've done your homework and have come to a conclusion that your choice is where you're convinced you're going to excel. Your parents want you to go into civil engineering because they see other people excelling in it not minding whether or not you're academically prepared for it. Your parents aren't going to live your life or deal with the negative consequences of your choice. So my advice to you as a commercial student whose initial dream was to study business Administration is to re-kindle that fire. You can always achieve your goal of becoming a graduate of bus admin...don't jump into somewhere you have very little knowledge about just because your parents compelled you to do so. Good luck. |
Jamean:Lol my dear that's what they tell you on paper...on ground its a different ball game. Most next of kins have given up collecting their deceased parents pension as a result of the kind of stress this PFA's put people through. From telling you to bring one document or the other, to unnecessary delays...at the end of the day, you might even spend more than what you're even expecting to collect. That's if you even collect the money. |
Eneze1:Very true. That's why you have to choose those your friends carefully, most especially when you fall in the category of the working class. Some friends feel that the moment you get employed, its your responsibility to cater for their financial needs as well..."My advise" flee from such lazy friends, and surround yourself with hard-working people. Secondly, you should limit the way you render financial assistance to your family. If you're still single, then your mum, dad, brothers and sisters are your priority; every other family member should be treated as frivolity. In that way you'll be able to limit the way you spend on family members. Finally, the economy is so bad, in fact these days employee's are sitting on the edges of their seats, no one know whose going to be kicked out next, so as an intelligent person, you've got to make do with the little you have. So if things go south, you'll always have something to fall back to no matter how small. |
kennygee:Then you cut your coat according to the cloth. |
After receiving your salary, it seems money always finds a way out of your wallet or purse, sometimes without consulting you. Your paycheck is hardly enough for expenses within the month not to talk about saving a portion for an investment or project. With these few hacks, you should be able to keep a few bucks away and still make the very best of your remuneration. 1. Make a budget and stick to it. Immediately you get notification of payment of your salary, take a few minutes to reflect deeply and write an explicit budget. Write down all expenses, essential and trivial, that you propose to make for that month. Don’t leave excess cash as miscellaneous, even if it is for recreation or outings, always try to tie something to your cash. 2. Reverse your thinking; Pay yourself first Get this. After you get paid for performing various duties and responsibilities at work, you pay everybody else but yourself. Isn’t that just wrong? Your mechanic, food vendor and many other individuals get a slice of the cake while you get only the icing. Take out a certain percentage monthly (say 15%) and stash it in an account that you don’t access regularly. This will can become the spine for future investments or just extra cash for exigencies. 3. Reduce your expenses There are some unnecessary activities that you spend excessively on monthly. It is quite important to cut these short while also making the best of expedient purchases. This will include you trying to make the best bargains from your groceries, internet payment and other expenses. Do your research, ask friends where they shop and compare prices. You will be surprised at the great bargains you are currently missing out on. 4. Have a project or reason tied to your saving When you save, have a particular project that you are saving towards. It might be investing in stocks, buying a car, getting a better apartment, starting a professional course or seed money for a small business. It’s your money so it’s your choice. If you do not have a goal to your saving, there is huge tendency you will spend the lot on petty activities that you might later regret. freecocoa:God has been calling you back since you were born...all you have to do, is to devout more time for him. Start going to church more often and try to pay more attention on the sermon this time and not the music. Good luck. |
Xcozee:Ok...I understand you perfectly. Its a possibility though...let's keep our fingers crossed. |
Xcozee:Why do you think so? I haven't heard anything like that in regards to what you said... |
APCisaJOKE:The 15B thread was opened February. That's 8months to Orientation Course. So I don't think opening 16A now which is barely 6months to Orientation Course should'nt be seen as a rush. |
@Op I don't think that 16A thread has been created. Welcome and keep the house running. |

What does QED mean? |
HopeAlive14:They're not concerned about the average Nigerian. They're only interested in their pockets. That's why it pains me so much when I see youths with bright future killing each other during elections in order to enable these thieves continue their looting. |
It has been confirmed that the original poster of this thread (Sodiqyinka) is a thief and a scammer. He scammed certain board members of their hard earned money, promising to assist them in getting their desired state, but absconded after receiving their money. He even went as far as de-activating his nairaland account. Any board member who has his bb and whatsapp account contact and goes ahead to transact business with him out of desperation, does so at his or her own risk. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED !!! |
People go to church for different reasons and purposes. The moment you abandon what brought you to church and begin to go judgmental on people, you'll spend the service being a bench warmer and leave God's presence emptier than how you came. My advise is that you focus on what brought you to church and forget about other people, in that way, you'll be able to tap into the blessings of that day. |
If you're planing to go into engineering, then you don't need to reduce your age. Employers in the engineering sector are looking for up-coming engineers that can do the job with very little or no supervision regardless of their age. All you need is hard work and dedication in your area of discipline and employers would begin flocking around you. Good luck. |
