JohnBullMySon:You obviously omitted the part where I said Scholarship if he's granted scholarship, he clearly wouldn't need any sponsor. |
If your parents, guardian... etc are sponsoring your schooling, then I would advice you not to drop out, take advantage of their sacrifice and educate yourself. You can even merge both. (your business and your schooling) Clothes sales moves very well on campus the only thing is you mustn't sell on credit cos students love credit especially the females. And they would owe you till you go bankrupt. Think about it... |
With the high level of insecurity in the country, you can easily be targeted by hoodlums. Besides, who needs a heavy uncomfortable briefcase when a pocket friendly smart (Android/iPhone) phone can carry the same (and even more) information than the briefcase. |
Worry about graduating first. with your 2.1 you can apply for Msc scholarship abroad and if God is on your side you can be granted. With an Msc degree in a place like UK, USA or Canada, whatever job you'll get over there would earn you more than the big 4 you're worrying yourself over here in Nigeria. Look to the bright side, and think positive. |
Pearl1212:My dear Nigeria of today isn't where you'll be running from institution to institution looking for degrees. There are no jobs. You already have your HND, if you must further, go for PGD then Msc, forget about acquiring another Bsc. Cos your Msc would cover for it. Also, like a poster suggested, learn IT, the world is going digital. And if you don't develop yourself to remain relevant, you'll be left behind despite being an apt accumulator of degree certificates. |
If you truly made that transfer through your bank app, it should indicate if the transaction was successful or not. If the transaction status on you bank app is showing pending and you've been debited it means they didn't get the money. I once made a transaction to a friend, I was debited so I didn't bother to check my bank app, after some hours he (my friend) called me that he hasn't received the money. I went back to my bank app and the transaction status was showing pending. I had to perform the transaction a second time (because I knew him personally and he needed the money urgently) before he received it. And by the time I woke up the following day, the pending transaction was later concluded as failed and my money was returned back to my account. If you haven't yet been credited, contact your bank. You can call their customer care number and explain things directly to them. Good luck. |
Isvo:Any job that pays you 30k obviously has no job security. What this means is that you can resume work one day and be served a sack letter, plunging you into the overcrowded job market. I would therefore advise you to go ahead and learn the auto mechanic skill, once you master the skill and start making reasonable money from it, you can pursue your degree. Good luck. |
Emmawolex22:Like the previous poster said, most of the people advising you negatively have no jobs, neither do they have better options for you to choose from. And if you continue to listen to them, you'd end up like them or worse. I would therefore encourage you to focus on the job you have in view. When eventually you get employed and confirm the rumors about their working environment being hellish are true, you can decide to quit. But in the meantime, hold on to what you have. A bird at hand they say is better than a thousand in the forest. |
Great article |
I won't lie to you, the South East isn't safe for now, even though I strongly believe that this insecurity is highly political and will fade away, that doesn't mean he should gamble his life. By road, there's no public transportation company that would move from Lagos to imo state without passing through Anambra. And Anambra currently isn't safe. Oraifite which is a major route towards the boundary between Anambra and Imo has in the last 3 weeks experienced more than 3 murders by unknown gun men. So how else do you intend to get to owerri? If he's buoyant enough to afford flight then that should be his best option. He can take Air Peace to PH, then from there, chatter RTC (Rivers Transportation Company) sienna to imo state, but it's going to cost him much especially if he wants a couple of friends to follow him cos he must book return ticket for them as well. What I'll suggest he does is to convince his girl and her people that they should do it in Lagos. When security improves in the south east he can go there with his wife and meet her people, probably throw a small indoor party in her village. |
Why would anyone come out openly to identify himself as a staff of a loan shark? They're not proud of their jobs because they're operating illegally in Nigeria that's why they're hiding from the authorities, angry customers and Nigerians at large. Even their offices have no verified office address. That should tell volumes about them and should be a red flag to anyone who wants to do business with them. Last month I got a very nasty WhatsApp message from a loan shark about a supposed friend whom I don't know. I immediately called the number to warn them never to send me such message, a lady picked up and insulted me, telling me I'm not ashamed of myself to be keeping debtors as friends that I'm being tracked and once they get me I'll produce their debtor. I asked her one simple question "Do you know who you're addressing" I could have this line traced and deal seriously with you. She immediately hung up the call and blocked me. I searched for the physical address of the loan app on Google and Google map, lo and behold, there was none. Honestly, if anyone tells me he/she is working for a loan shark, I'll personally have them arrested, they'll lead the police to their office and every single one of them would be apprehended. |
piyoo91:Hmm..it's going to be very difficult cos people who are much younger with Bsc and 2.1 are being rejected Visas on a daily basis how much more someone with a pass certificate? But like the old saying, it's better to try and fail than to not try at all. Tell him to give it a shot, if he gets rejected, then he should apply for PGD, then Msc here in Nigeria. After his Msc he can reapply for PhD in Canada. |
andyblinks05:Mr Bean was an introvert...today he's celebrated all over the world. You'll definitely make it if you're determined and possess self confidence. |
Sirchiboy:1million naira is less than $2000. So technically speaking that money can't even take you to any Western European or North American country cos visa application fee, flight ticket...etc would swallow it. Meaning you'll get to your destination empty handed. Unless you're going to a neighbouring African country, and that would be another issue cos you have to settle down first before thinking of doing any kind of business. Your best bet is to remain here in Nigeria, move to a more cheaper city and look for a lucrative business you can use that money to do. |
micellgevity:Why not just learn them all. That would be the the best option. |
Ologundudu2020:You're so wrong bro. 500k can start a dry-cleaning job. He doesn't need a shop, he can use his house for the time being, all he needs to do with that money is to buy washing machine and generator (if he doesn't already have) then hangers and nylons. Since he worked in the bank he can send messages to friends, clients, church members... etc requesting to be of service to them. He can go personally to their homes to pick up their laundry or have them drop it off at his place on their way to work. As the business begins to grow, he can get a shop. If he has at least 10 customers per week which he most likely would and even more, he would be making over 100k in a month. |
I wouldn't recommend that you get another job whislt doing your remote job reason being that when a company is paying you for services, they'll want to utilize every inch of your agreed time with them, Which means sooner or later you'd be back here lamenting how you want to quit cos of the stress. My advice to you would be to open a business, could be laundry/dry-cleaning services, restaurant/bar, grocery/provision store, female or wears boutique...etc. That way you can always sit in your shop and attend to customers whenever you're bored at home. Good luck. |
Be honest with your customers. Sometimes making profit shouldn't be the goal but satisfying your customers cos a satisfied customer becomes a beacon who will lead other customers to you, and with time the sky will become your limit. Good luck. |
savesoulmejjj:Suicide wasn't directly pronounced as a sin anyway in the Bible. Suicide is just like tendering down your resignation letter to life. There are many cases of suicide in the Bible and none of those cases was condemned by God or Jesus in the new testament. But if I'm to air my opinion I'd say suicide isn't right, cos it brings nothing but pain to your loved ones. Imagine a married man with kids commits suicide, who does he expect to look after his wife and kids? How would his friends and parents feel...such action brings nothing but pain to those he left behind. A better approach would be to see a counselor, don't shut people off...talk to someone, share your problems with people who care, and things would get better. |
BBBmall25:The greatest plague this Earth is facing isn't Ebola or Corona virus, it's religion. Religion has destroyed more people than wars, natural disasters, diseases... etc, combined. |
Dreamswayne:The Bible never said sisters shouldn't put on trouser and brothers shouldn't put on skirt. It said female shouldn't put on male apparel. Stop adding what wasn't recorded in the Bible. If you must know, they're millions of traditions all over the world, and they are clothes for men and women all over the world. In Scotland, their men put on skirt, and it's their tradition. Here in Nigeria, the Ijaws and cross River men put on wrapper, does that mean they're putting on female apparel and would be sent to hell? When next you read your Bible, ask God for deeper understanding. God isn't interested in your outward appearance but your heart, that's why he told zaccheous who was regarded as a sinner by everyone that he would come and eat in his home. And that's why he told the pharasee when they accused his disciples of not washing their hands before eating that what goes into a man doesn't make him bad but what comes out of him. If you must serve God do so and stop condemning people putting on trousers. Jesus last words on these earth was that we should go and preach the gospel and make disciples and not telling people what and what not to wear. That you feel something is wrong doesn't make it wrong. |
The experience from some of what you wrote like freelancing and internship aren't easily accessible here in Nigeria. And the others like starting your own business on campus...As an engineering, scientist, arts or law student, selling recharge card, food, drinks, clothes...etc on campus would be seen more as hussle than experience by a prospective employer. What I would suggest is gaining experience in your field. Eg if you're an engineer, mastering the act of wielding, electrical and electronics appliances, Manson/bricklaying...etc would boost your CV in terms of experience. Then on the issue of SIWES, most companies would prefer to take polytechnic IT students who would be staying for one year or more than university SIWES students who would be with them for just six months. So finding an establishment in line with your career for SIWES would be a Herculean task in today's Nigeria considering how tight everywhere is. On your suggestion about volunteering...I doubt if we have young people today who would just volunteer to work without pay for the purpose of gaining experience. Hunger wouldn't allow any youth think towards that angle. If we were in a society where things were working, I would have picked it to be the best, but youths of today can't even sit down for two years as "Nwa Boy" to learn a trade and be settled is it to volunteer their time, money energy...etc that they'll do. All in all I'll advice undergraduates to develope themselves while on campus. If you're a computer science student, learn different programs, if you're an engineer I've already mentioned options to learn from. Just grow yourself in your field and the sky will be your limit. |
There's really no much difference between computer science and IT, they're technically the same thing. A lot of computer science students upgrade themselves by going into IT. So rejecting the girl means they clearly didn't want her to have the job, or one top government official replaced her name with his own candidate. |
iyapont:There is very little the government can do in community clashes aside playing neutral and calling the elders of both sides and dialoguing with them to embrace peace. Dave is from Ohaozara if any of the sides perceive that he's taking sides with the other group they'll drag his community into the fight. Villages in his community would be burnt, people will be killed. And he has barely one year in office so once he's out of office, how does he intend to defend his people from a fight that wasn't any of his concern? See the one of Aguleri and Umuleri in Anambra, it has been going on for over 20 years and counting. Various governors have tried to meet their elders but they'll call a cease fire for some months or years then before you say jack, killings have resumed. There's nothing the government can do unless the people choose to end fighting and hostilities only then would there be peace. |
Germi9:The fight started around this time last year...this is the Genesis of the fight. Some Ezza people migrated to Effium many years ago, settled down there, got married and mixed with the Effium people. As years passed by, the Ezza settlers in Effium began to increase in number, they married multiple wives, had tens of children, and with time they began to demand for political office. From local government chairman to councilor, to house of reps (state and federal)...etc. What broke the camel's back last year was the tussle for park chairman, Ezza people confronted Effium people that it's their turn to produce the next park chairman. Effium people got angry and told them that the park belongs to them, so they (Effium) would keep producing the chairman. After talks and countless meetings, they agreed to do an election, the Effium candidate vs the Ezza candidate. On the election day the Effium candidate came with armed tugs and open fire on the Ezza voters, rumor had it that over 12 Ezza people died that day. What is happening now is reprisals from that incident, Effium will invade an Ezza settlement and kill them, the following week, Ezza people will invade Effium settlement and retaliate, and on and on like that...this has been going on since last year. I was driving to Abakaliki from Awka around March last year and when I got to Ezzambo, I saw a truck filled with dead bodies of mostly women and children. It was people there that told me how the fight started. Even Dave Umahi the governor visited Effium to settle them, but the Effium elders are saying that Ezza people should vacate their community. And that's almost impossible cos Ezza people have been living there for hundreds of years. Meaning if they leave, they'll have no where to call their home. I pray they settle their issues cos this fight has claimed hundreds if not thousands of lives. |
Ishilove:@bolded. Will wasn't provoked, his wife was...The video clearly showed him laughing at the innocent joke. His laugh suddenly changed to aggression when he noticed the straight face his wife gave to him. That was what prompted him to walk up to the stage to slap Chris. He told Chris to keep his wife's name off his lips, I wish he confronted his wife's sugar boys with such energy, he would have had my respect. Instead he decided to go all Bianca on the innocent comedian who clearly made a harmless joke. I hope that award is revoked. |
Vipro:Nope it's not... |
Munikbabe:If you have nothing doing at the moment I'll advice you to take it, reason being that they have staff quarters which means you won't be paying for rent. Also since it's a hotel, you certainly would be getting free meal tickets meaning you won't be spending money on food. Finally in hotels you can meet really nice people who can connect you to much better jobs. So rather than being idle and jobless, you can choose to work and earn a monthly stipend whilst waiting for a much better offer. Good luck. |
