Residents of Iyana Ipaja began the new month on a sad note as a fatal accident occurred in the community.

Reports reaching Afrolic states that a number of lives have been lost as a truck filled with Bottles crashed at Iyana Ipaja, crushing a number of people including a baby.

The accident occurred around 4:30 pm today, Sunday.

Pastor Philip Igbinijesu, Senior Pastor of Word Assembly has condemned the recent discovery of hoarded palliative in the houses of some politicians and monarchs around the country. Speaking during the Sunday service, the pastor described those involved in the hoarding as wicked human beings and wicked souls, adding that their conscience was so dead that they don't care anymore.

He called it total madness and nonsense and rounded up by saying any politician hoarding food, the curse of heaven is upon them until they repent and change.

There is an outrage currently ongoing in Jos, the Plateau State Capital over a lecture organized by Jama'atu Nasril Islam (JNI), an umbrella group for the Nigerian Muslim community.

The Zoom lecture, themed 'The History Of Jos and Environment, Pre, During and Post Colonial Era', gathered a lot of criticism online after it's fliers leaked on social media after the total exclusion of the over 40 ethnic groups in the state. This raised eyebrows and suspicion and gathered a lot of attention in Jos with many asking why no plateau indigene was invited or included amongst the speakers.

More than 10 people were feared dead in Akungba Akoko in Akoko South West Local Government Area of Ondo State, on Saturday night when the driver of a trailer lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a market.

The driver of the trailer which was loaded with bags of rice was said to have lost control and rammed into the market in Akungba Akoko, killing over 10 people and injuring many others.

According to an eyewitness, the trailer was coming from Akungba axis of the town and heading towards Akure when the driver lost control and rammed into the popular Ibaka market in Akungba.

He said the victims of the accident who sustained various forms of injuries were rushed to the hospital while rescue operatives are still battling to remove some victims from the scene of the incident.

“The accident occurred at about 7.30 p.m., when the trailer loaded with bags of rice rammed into the stalls in the market.

“As I am talking to you, about 10 people must have been killed because we have removed dead bodies and many are still trapped under the trailer.”

The Public Relations Officer of the state police command, Mr Tee-Leo Ikoro, who confirmed the crash, said about eight persons have been confirmed died.

“As we speak now, eight people have been confirmed dead in the accident and we can still have more because we still have many people trapped under the trailer.”

The Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps in the state was yet to confirm the incident as of the time of filing this report.

Elite Commandos of the US military have staged a military raid of bandits camp in Nigeria to free an American abducted in Niger Republic.

The American, Philip Walton, was abducted on 26 October by suspected bandits last week in a village in Niger, close to Nigeria. Nigeria has porous borders with Niger..

The US military rescued Walton during a high-risk U.S. military raid in Nigeria.

Officials told ABC News early Saturday that the counter-terrorism mission was undertaken by elite commandos as part of a major effort to free the 27-year-old U.S. citizen before his abductors could get far after taking him captive in Niger.

According to report, the operation involved the governments of the U.S., Niger and Nigeria working together to rescue Walton quickly.

It said the elite SEAL Team Six carried out the rescue mission and killed all but one of the captors, according to officials with direct knowledge about the operation.

“They were all dead before they knew what happened,” another counterterrorism source with knowledge told ABC News.

The Pentagon lauded the rescue mission in a statement.

“U.S. forces conducted a hostage rescue operation during the early hours of 31 October in Northern Nigeria to recover an American citizen held hostage by a group of armed men,” said Pentagon chief spokesperson Jonathan Hoffman.

“This American citizen is safe and is now in the care of the U.S. Department of State. No U.S military personnel were injured during the operation.

“We appreciate the support of our international partners in conducting this operation.”

U.S. and Nigerien officials had said that Walton was kidnapped from his backyard last Monday after assailants asked him for money. But he only offered $40 USD and was then taken away by force, according to sources in Niger.

Walton lives with his wife and young daughter on a farm near Massalata, a small village close to the border with Nigeria.

Nigerien and American officials told ABC News that they believed the captors were from an armed group from Nigeria and that it was not considered terror-related. But hostages are often sold to terrorist groups.

Concern grew quickly after the kidnapping that an opportunity to rescue Walton could become much more dangerous if he was taken by or sold to a group of Islamist militants aligned with either al Qaeda or ISIS and American special operations commanders felt they needed to act swiftly before that could occur, said one counterterrorism official briefed on the hostage recovery operations.

A U.S. State Department spokesperson confirmed after the kidnapping that an American citizen had been abducted in Niger and said the U.S. government was “providing their family all possible consular assistance.” The spokesperson declined to comment on the case, citing “privacy considerations,” but added, “When a U.S. citizen is missing, we work closely with local authorities as they carry out their search efforts, and we share information with families however we can.”

Another American, Christian humanitarian aid worker Jeffery Rey Woodke, 60, has been held hostage for the past four years since being kidnapped in northern Niger by armed militants.

A coalition of human rights activists under the aegis of New Nigeria Network (NNN) comprising of Radical Agenda Movement in the Nigeria Bar Association (RAMINBA), Federation of Informal Workers’ Organization of Nigeria, Coalition for Revolution (CORE), Take it Back Movement, Movement for A Socialist Alternative (MSA) and Socialist Workers and Youth League (SWL) among others in Ikeja, Lagos State Nigeria has come out to protest against the Lagos state governor, Babajide Sanwo Olu, from presiding over the Panel of inquiry setup.

According to the Chairman, Barrister Adesina Ogunlana, it is illegal for the governor to preside over the Panel as he is an involved party, and an involved party can not be an investigator in a case he is indicted for.

The lawyers said that it would have been a different case if the Governor had initially accepted that he invited the military as the Chief Security Officer of the State, but he made the disclosure after the army's revelation.

The Lawyers said it is not possible to be the Accuser, Investigator, and Judge in a case and so the government's involvement has affected the credibility of the panel.

The New Nigeria Network is an amalgamation of progressive forces that actively participated in the #EndSARS movement. The activists said the EndSARS Protest is an unfinished task that cannot be abandoned.

Soldiers manning the gate at the Military Hospital in Ikoyi have stopped the Lagos judicial panel on #EndSARS from accessing the hospital’s mortuary.

The panel, unannounced, on Friday, went to the hospital on an investigation into the shooting at Lekki tollgate where 15 protesters were reportedly killed.

Some witnesses of the Lekki shooting accused the military of taking away the bodies of those killed in the incident.

The panel met resistance as it got to the gate of the hospital.

A major 7.0-magnitude earthquake has rattled Greece's Dodecanese Islands, the US Geological Survey (USGC) has said, with the tremor felt miles away in the capital of Athens.

Initial estimates by the European Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) put the magnitude of the earthquake, which struck north of the eastern island of Samos at around 11:50 GMT, at 6.7.

There were no immediate reports of casualties on Friday but video footage on social media showed buildings in the Turkish city of Izmir had been seriously damaged.

Videos also showed flooded streets in the city, apparently caused by a small tsunami following the earthquake.

Suleyman Soylu, Turkey’s interior minister, wrote on Twitter that six buildings had collapsed in two districts of Izmir province.

However, the city’s mayor Tunc Soyer told CNN Turk that about 20 buildings had collapsed on Friday.

Izmir, which is the country’s third-biggest city, contains about 4.5 million residents.

Turkey’s Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency said the earthquake was centered in the Aegean Sea at a depth of 16.5 kilometres (10.3 miles).

Local media added that the tremor was felt across the regions of Aegean and Marmara, where Istanbul is located.

Meanwhile, Greek media said residents of Samos and other islands fled their homes, while some rockfalls were reported.

Residents of Samos, which has a population of about 45,000 people, have been urged to stay away from coastal areas, Eftyhmios Lekkas, head of Greece's organization for anti-seismic planning, told the country’s Skai TV.

“It was a very big earthquake, it's difficult to have a bigger one,” Mr Lekkas said.

High tidal wave warnings have also been put in place in Samos, with residents told to stay away from buildings as aftershocks continue to rattle the area.
