Billyonaire: Let me assume you are using a smartphone; Then proceed to the GooglePlay and type; 'Nigeria's Constitution'. Find time to read the constitutional responsibilities of the President. It will do you some good, and please advise Dele Momodu to download and read too.
I understand your problem. You think this is about GEJ. Sorry, but I am talking about responsible leadership no matter who is in the saddle. The role of a President is a managerial one, and that includes managing people and resources. He appoints ministers who oversee parastatals. If they are not functional, then he should do the needful. There is no manager who is put under pressure by his boss who will not transfer it to his subordinates. You need to get a lesson in management bruv.
Billyonaire: Do you really know the Duties and Responsibilities of a President ? Or you just sit down and assume what should be the duties of a President. Anyway, let me assume you do not know the duties of a President, just like Dele Momodu. The duties of a President does not include supervising of all the Airports facilities in this large country. May be you should apply for the job of a maintenance officer in the airport. My President has a busy routine daily.
Since you manage the President's itinerary, do you mind telling us what he does all day?
You want the president to pay surprise visit to the toilet, what is the work of the head cleaner?
Soon he will start paying surprise visit to your room to see if you swept it.
Is there a rule of etiquette that bars the President from inspecting work that he released funds for? Does he not go to inspect roads, power grids and railway lines? Let us stop decieving ourselves. We all know there is a lot of eye service and corruption in our system. Until a culture of excellence is instilled in a people, a responsible leader must apply a hands on approach.
If you have managed a Nigeria business staff force before, you will understand. Most of us don't like to do our job until we are compelled to through likely sanctions.
Billyonaire: I will take it that you do not know what you are saying. There is a cleaning contract in every airport. The cleaners are not even direct employers of government. And the cleaning company has hierarchies, supervisors, management and etc. And the management is answerable to the direct hirer which is the Airport Management. If there is a query to be issued, it goes directly to the Airport management. You demean the office of even a Governor if you motioned that a governor failed to see the state of the airport toilet, but this is a country that the populace believe every business of street cleaning is the duty of a President and a governor has no role.
Illiteracy and ignorance will incinerate this country someday. After all people are massively campaigning for an ancestor that has no basic educational qualification to lead them. A country, certainly and truly, always have a leader they deserve. If an illiterate Islamist is what you guys want, then this country is no more mine. I cant be led by an illiterate, not soon, not ever.
And who directly or indirectly pays the bill of all these people you've listed? The government, through tax payers money and the income generated from our commonwealth. If the President shows his displeasure to the Minister about the state of the airport, you think the ripple effect won't cascade down to the cleaning agency?
Nigeria is a peculiar country. We've not gotten to the point where people, especially those in the public sector, know that they must do their jobs or get booted out. This is why anyone that will lead this country must have a more hands on approach until proper maintenance becomes a culture.
phantom23: @Dele Momodu..Are you going to blame GEJ for this as well cos if you do, i'll call you a very very biased journalist and you will risk soiling your own reputation in the process. I've had the privilege of using MMA since the late 80's. And the last time i remember it being in its original state of glory was before 1994. MMA has been deteriorating after then. Tell me how many govts we've had in between? Even under OBJ's tenure, it was not better. At some point all the ACs and escalators weren't working (yes under OBJ)..remember?
I'm not excusing GEJ but the state of MMA is typical of Nigeria's way of managing infrastructure... poor maintenance. And yes Dele, this includes you and I and every other Nigerian.
In your pictures, i saw mops and ladders all around, i saw dirty toilets etc, Dele Momodu i ask you, is that the work of a president? Those things were left lying untidy by lagosians like you and I. What message did you send to them? What is the work of Nahco- What is the work of Nigeria Airport Authority-whatever they are called nowadays? Who are the contractors responsible for cleaning the airport? Do they have yearly allocation to take care of the airport? what are they doing with it? this is where you should focus on to help Nigerians understand who is fooling who. we are hoping for a Nigeria with freedom of press so that every Nigerian can see what the govt. and its establishments do with yearly allocations and budgets but you taking sides in all you biased write ups almost makes this laughable.
I've admired some of your write ups but please stop being biased. And just so you know, I don't support either GEJ (a clueless weak individual) or GMB (a do or die politician). They are both robbers and unfit to rule.
I wonder when Nigerian youths will wake up and realise that the more they follow these so called political godfathers e.g. OBJ, Tinubu, IBB, and who else..you name them... they will always get the same old same. Bunch of criminals rebranding their party names, installing stooges as Governors and Presidents while their personal wealth keeps multiplying.
I like your line of argument. However, ask yourself; if you were appointed MD/ CEO of a multinational and you swung into action to release funds for renovation and stuff through the help of your trusted manager. Then after 6 months everything is falling apart simply because your manager left for another company. What will you tell the board? "Oh it's not my fault. It's the cleaning agency we use. They are very sloppy." They are not going to listen to that. Or would you agree that Stephen Keshi has no blame in the performance of the Eagles even though we all know the FA and the players have their own fault?
Billyonaire: I see nothing wrong with the facilities except for zero maintenance culture of an average Nigerian. ( I stand to be corrected); and it is not the job of any country's president to clean and fix toliets and conveyor belts. I think all Airports should be privatized. USA has over 2,000 airports and 0ver 90% of them apart from military airports are privately owned and government only regulates.
Dele Momodu is a very f00lish person.
I will be the first to agree with you that this is as a result of our general lack of a maintenance culture. However, this is were leadership is key. The President uses the airport from time to time. It is not enough to stroll through VIP every time. Or just listen to false reports that they cook up for you. Sometimes a leader needs to catch his "staff" unawares sometimes. Pay a surprise visit. Catch people of guard. And where they are lacking, don't hesitate to apply sanctions. The same principles that apply within the family and in business apply in governance. If you leave people to misbehave without rein, this is what you get.
From the pics you see, it's obvious the structures are in place....the problem now being that of maintenance! It's been almost a year now since you lot bullied GEJ into removing her from office, yet you expect the airport facilities to still be as she left them!?
If you're looking for anyone to blame, blame the immediate past acting minister and current minister of aviation!
This kind of argument makes me laugh. Will Princess Stella Oduah be aviation minister forever? Or is a ministerial position a family heirloom? Should we not be more concerned with building institutions? Did she not leave the ministry to pursue her political career in the same way Obanikoro and Labaran Maku did?
noblezone: In 2013, Jonathan was at a town hall meeting with Bornu Elders over Boko Haram. I could recall that the Elders had asked Mr. President to withdraw the JTF, to which he replied he would, if they assure him there wont be any more killings.
Why all the lies that this recent visit was his first? Why all these lies and propaganda?
It seems all our "progressives" have memory problems as well.
I don't think anyone is saying he has never been to Borno before. The question being asked is why he didn't visit after the Chibok girls issue and other terrorist attacks after that? March 2013 to January 2015 is almost 2 years. How many lives have been lost in that time?
onatisi: agreed. Let's agree that buhari submitted an equivalent certificate . The question now is what or which equivalent certificate did he submit? This case is capable of derailing this elections and causing serious problems. Ppl shouldn't forget the issue of association of better nigeria that went to court and got the junta then to annul the 1993 elections and we all know what happened and how many ppl died. For the sake oof peace ,buhari and apc should stop playing silly mind games and produce all required documents needed lay this matter to rest once and for all
I'm not here to vouch for Buhari. I'm only pointing out the ambiguity of our constitution. As far as your scenario is concerned; the PDP can go to court before or after the election if they believe they have a strong case. That's their right and the law. That is why we have election tribunals. The accused is not obligated to make things easy for his accusers. Even in court, the burden of proof is with the prosecution, not the accused. Sadly, Buhari is under no obligation to show any of us his certificate. His duty is to INEC, and they have not disqualified him for lacking the prerequisite qualification. It is a classic case of morality vs. legality. It's like a referee giving a footballer a yellow card when the whole world feels it should be a straight red. Do you think the player will tell the referee "sir, I deserve a red instead. Please send me off?"
Personally, I see no need for all this noise. If Nigerians feel Buhari isn't qualified, let them reject him with their votes. And should they vote him in, let the aggrieved party go to court. That is the power of our votes. That is democracy. We Nigerians should learn to practice the democracy we crave so much for.
Tymax: This our constitution sef. School cert is the basic requirement for the position of president but primary 6 sef na school cert. WASSCE too na school cert.
Our constitution is full of ambiguities. Instead of our Reps and Senators to plug these holes, they are busy awarding allowances for themselves.
It gets worse when it says "or its equivalent". What is the equivalent of a school certificate? Work experience? Professional certification? It's not stated. Which is why I think nothing will come of all this brouhaha over Buhari's certificate issue.
discusant: Nigeria's laws require attendance of school up to School Leaving Certificate level or its equivalent to enable one contest for presidency of Nigeria.
You can only convince anyone that you studied up to school certificate level by showing the person your school leaving certificate. If the originals are lost, you must have gotten a remedy from the awarding authorities - no other method to convince any authority.
Certificates from military training institutions are not academic certificates; and they are never equivalents to school leaving certificates.
You can send a school drop-out to UK or USA institution to train as a soldier or carpenter or plumber, the certificate the drop-out gets after the training is not an academic certificate, it is a professional certificate.
Typical Buharists - you people hardly have sound knowledge of any discourse you engage in, only insults.
I love your analysis. You are almost on point. However, how do you know that a professional qualification added to years of work experience cannot be equivalent to a school certificate?
Zeezy99: You only need a school cert. To be president, and INEC has confirmed that, Masters, diploma and PH.D are just added advantage.
Considering the ambiguity of the constitution, you may not even need a school cert. The constitution says "a school certificate or its equivalent". What qualifies as "an equivalent" to a school cert? Professional training diploma? A military diploma? Apprenticeship certificate? What exactly is the "equivalent" of a school cert?
I never said Buhari was incompetent. I'm talking about democracy as a system of government. If competences were considered, GEJ has no business being President where there was a Donald Duke, even if a South South leader was what PDP ( or is it OBJ) wanted. I was old enough during Buhari regime. Is he the man for the job now? Maybe, maybe not.
Eluwilussit: Yeah, realized that and modified it. Anyway, I would have preferred Fashola or Tambuwal. Even Duke or Okorocha. I don't sincerely understand how Nigerians could be comfortable with the choice of Buhari. Are we this daft?
That's democracy Bro. Political parties are thinking numbers and electoral victories, not competences.
phineas: All this kids on nairaland,so with all the topical issues raging in the nation its Buhari's certificate that's the matter arising.
Nonsense Smear campaign from brats not worthy of carrying the generals shoe.
"At least Ssce" was the requirement? He has provided unrefutable proof that he has attained academic and professional excellence in his field beyond the ssce.hey jobless youth give that a thought,Undisputed professional excellence.
Sadly, many of them have not stopped to ask what qualification is "equivalent" to a WAEC certificate as stipulated in the Electoral Act. Maybe a military diploma?
Mee234: He went for a training course not degree awarding program. Which means he has no certificate who lead credence to the fact that he never had any. So don't expected to see any. The guy no get any cert to show.
Guy, he who lives in a glasshouse should not throw stones. Just saying.
iiichidodo: First off you aren't igbo,so don't pretend the language, secondly,we are a nation of laws and so we must follow the constitution which states that a contestant must have minimum WASC whether..special center WASC or otherwise..it is better we stick to an 'educated' guess than the one chance of an Illiterate..…Managing a country is a slow but gradual process..If you want action, go and watch Mnet Action
Er, could you please define the word. ILLITERATE? And can you also explain how an illiterate can speak intelligently for about 6 minutes in English without checking any notes, yet a Ph.D holder kept glancing at bullet points on several index cards and still couldn't articulate his points very well?
franklein: Clearly Buhari even speaks better English than u do; what's the point in showing u his certificate Nigerian producing educated illiterate's since 1960
Aha, guy take your time o. Make that 1990. My late grandma had only Standard Six, yet her grammar and elocution was better than what I hear spewing out of the mouth of so many graduates today.
biafranqueen: Did you not read that where they said they just give "Thank you for coming certificate" They said plain that Masters degree did not start until 1999. Did you not watch the history of the War College in Youtube explaining what type of school it was in the 80's. You people need to step up in research and cognitive skills.
With all the graduates in the entire Nigeria. He is the only one with only WAEC what does his partner have wettin be LMB?
What type of WAEC is WASC is that the 1940's version. Well at least they made a good forged document that made it pass INEC! Carry and go GMB, Nigerian youth will never let you in as much as they suffer for school. We will get the tissue boxes ready
Sadly, you have not commented like someone who is knowledgeable. You don't know what degree they give to Law graduates? You don't know what WASC is? Smh!
"Let us just assume that it was a mistake that the metro line was terminated and that it would have made economical sense to borrow the money to construct the metro line. Buhari was in government for less than 2 years. Are we saying that the successful governments in the last 30 years have not considered it reasonable to build the metro line? Mr. Jonathan has been in government for 6 years and yet our minister wants to blame someone that served for less than 2years in 30 years ago.
This issue was raised in 2003, 2007 and 2011 elections, till today, PDP governments have refused to do something about it. They prefer to raise the issue every four, four years of election to give excuses for non performing or to deceive Nigerians." - Joe_Political_Spectacle.
Last I remember, the trains were working in just about the same manner as it is now when Buhari was head of state. Even after he left I still took a train ride from Iddo in 1989 during IBB's regime. Not only were the trains working, but even the mechanical barriers at train crossings were working in most parts of Lagos then. I remember as a kid how we used to be excited watching the barriers swing down and go up like magic (in our young minds) at Yaba close to Fela's house. Even streetlights worked back then. I don't think Buhari contributed to the death of the rail system.
Good strategy by the PDP campaign team though. They got this location right.
olabukola: So northern acceptance is now a criteria contest for presidency. I use to think that southerners a wise now I realise my mistake.
Sadly many Nigerians like you don't understand that a democratic election is a game of numbers and perceptions, not just competencies of the candidate. It may seem unfortunate, but that is the reality. A political party usually looks out for the candidate that can deliver the votes. Many indices are considered. Even in the US you have areas that are strongholds for the democrats and some that are almost sure-banker regions for the Republicans. The key to success is to try and mop up the neutrals.
Is Obama necessarily a better candidate than Hilary Clinton or John Kerry? Maybe, maybe not. But choosing Obama at the time was a master stroke. Did GEJ win in 2011 because he was the most competent of candidates? Maybe, maybe not. But the idea of someone from a minority tribe and humble background who would break the seeming Northern political dominance was well sold to Nigerian and the rest is history.
So, yes, regional acceptance is a key factor for the political parties in choosing their candidate. It is left to voters to then make their choice.
Still waiting for the issue based campaigns. Sadly many here are gleefully dancing away their future over irrelevances.
“I’ve now been in 57 states? I think one left to go?” - Barack Obama at a campaign event in Beaverton, Oregon. Someone please tell Senator Obama there are only 50 states at the moment.
Vicotex: Buhari cannot rule under a democratic setting, he is to rigid and naive.Above all he is an illiterate, who has no records of any academic certificate,a dunce who cannot pronouce Engilsh words accurately.Let him be president in Daura first.Just waiting to see him cry again after his defeat, dig i say cry ,stab himself, commit suicide because of shame
Er, sorry to go off topic, but last time I checked being literate usually refers to being able to simply read and write. Just saying.
barcanista: The constitution is very clear, a candidate must be educated up to "at least" secondary school level or its equivalent. Buhari CLEARLY surpassed the requirement. He was educated "up to" secondary school, aside that he was educated at post secondary school level through the NDA. Going further, he acquired other post-secondary education in the UK and USA War College where he obtained a diploma between 1979 and 1980. A confirmation from any of the post-secondary institution he attended or his secondary school will nail pdp's case. Again, the PDP's case will be thrown out
Something a lot of people here don't even understand is that, even a Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO) who may not have gone through or completed the conventional secondary school system, can rise through the ranks in the army to become a commissioned officer, especially in times of war. Through structured training the individual can rise to the level of a General. The question then is "Doesn't the education he has received depending on the types of courses then becomes superior to or at least equivalent to a secondary school education?" The key word here is equivalent. What form of education is equivalent to a secondary school education? Is the military education or training Buhari got not more superior to a WASCE?
This may be the question the court will answer..., that is if this issue ever gets to court.
