It is official. There are so many kids on Nairaland. They don't even know that Buhari, then of CPC was present at the NN24 organised debates in 2011 along with Ribadu, then of ACN. Oh, wait BlackBerry and Andriod smartphones were not this common then. |
Vessi:Buhari was part of the 2011 debates, so it's not like he hasn't done it before. |
OmobaNL:Hit a nerve did I? Now ask yourself; how is it your business that some people are interested in finding their names on a Coke bottle before you sit in judgement over them? Class dismissed. |
xcolanto:Typical. Once you are not kissing GEJ ass, you are APC. I have simply highlighted what sorts of arguments could come up in a courtroom and you are busy with some pseudo-profiling. I can see how objective you have been so far. Enjoy your day. |
Billygee2u:Err, not trying to knock your hustle but President GEJ did say that some senior citizens are nothing but garage touts. So much for respect. #justsaying |

I would have loved to see Namadi Sambo or even David Mark's face when he made that comment.

tivta:Thank you o. When people are collecting stamps, crown corks and coins, they will be making fun of the individual. Fifty years or more down the line when the item becomes a rare piece sold for a reasonable sum, they begin to wonder. I guess most Nigerians don't understand the concept of being a collector. Sometimes, it's not all about money. |
OmobaNL:Some of you take life too seriously. There is a place for fun and recreation you know? Do the citizens of every other country on the globe have their names on the Forbes list? Besides, this coming from someone who not only loves football but even bets regularly on it, I'd say glasshouses and stones are in order. |
xcolanto:Motive? How about doing the bidding of their C-in-C who has vested interest in the eligibility of Buhari to contest in this election? Don't forget that this is Nigeria and the army have on several occasions been accused of being partisan. Mind you the Katsina State ministry of education released the contentious statement of results on the request of Buhari, and the Cambridge Assessment Board have also said they will release the results only if Buhari makes a formal request. Even WAEC will not release the result except on Buhari's request. Why then did the army call a press conference to release documents in Buhari's file without the consent of Buhari? Is there an ulterior motive on their own part? Could they maybe have removed his WASC results from the file and released the rest? The fact that Buhari's opponent, the President controls the army is enough motive. As for the principal's letter, it is simply a recommendation/reference letter, which has been said to be the practice then. it's like applying for some professional courses and your employer writes a recommendation letter to state that you are suitably qualified for that course. Have you not seen people processing admission into tertiary institutions with "awaiting results"? |
sonnie10:Which is exactly my point. Who is there to prove whether he submitted or not. Buhari cannot prove that he did, neither can the Army prove that he didn't. It becomes a case of I submitted my documents..., no you didn't. Buhari had other documents in his file, but not his WASC result? Why? Did he truly submit it and someone is now trying to be funny, or did he not and he is just lying. How do we know? That is what a presiding judge will have to determine. |
xcolanto:Bro, I'm glad you said you are not into law. The law is not always so straitjacketed. It is subject to interpretation and also based on evidence available. So you cannot conclude that anyone has committed perjury until you can prove that he knowingly lied under oath. I'm a manager in the organization where I work, and trust me if I ask someone to hand something over to my subordinate, maybe while I'm out of the office, I make it a duty to ask when I return. I don't expect a client or customer to come back and be asking "abeg, you don give oga that my file?" From the bolded part of your statement, you have basically pointed out that our educational system is lax, hence a young and then naive undergraduate like me shouldn't have taken a full grown adult for his word (not minding the fact that I came from a secondary school where things worked). Can we then also infer that the Nigerian army could also have been lax administratively? Or maybe even complicity and even partisan in their claim that they don't have the document. The fact that Buhari hasn't disputed their claim doesn't mean he or his lawyers won't do so in court. At the end of the day, like it was with my course adviser, it becomes his word against theirs. |
xcolanto:Modified my post in case you missed it. Oh, and I think the case in court is about eligibility, not perjury. Just to add. How will the prosecution prove beyond reasonable doubt that Buhari was aware that his certificate was not with the army, or lied about it. I'll give you a personal experience. When I got into 100L in the university, I went to register at my department and was required to submit copies of my academic credentials (WAEC & JAMB). I met the course adviser just as he was leaving for a meeting. He gave me a form to fill and asked me to submit it with my academic results to the department's secretary as he couldn't wait. He clearly stated he would collect it from her. I did as I was told and went my way, a proud, registered jambite. Fast forward to almost the end of the session and I go to check my 1st semester results like everybody only to be told I was not registered in the department and hence had no records or result in the department. Apparently, the course adviser never collected my credentials. (Only God knows what happened to it till date.) Now, I had been going about believing I was a member of the department, attending classes, writing exams, only to be giving a shocker after almost a year. Imaging if I had sworn to an affidavit that I was a student in that department (for whatever reason) only for someone to make a background check to confirm my claim. Would I be said to have committed perjury? |
xcolanto:Well, like I said in my initial post, I would like to see this go to court. I'm not here to discuss GEJ or Buhari, but the charge of perjury based on the scenario at hand and the possibility of making it stick. Let's see how the prosecution and the defense will state their case if it ever gets to court. However, note that even the army admitted in their press conference that they really do not know what the procedure was as far as submitting and storing of academic records back in 1961. Modified: Just to add. How will the prosecution prove beyond reasonable doubt that Buhari was aware that his certificate was not with the army, or lied about it. I'll give you a personal experience. xcolanto:Ignorance and telling the truth to the best of your knowledge are two different things. How do we know that the army board isn't lying? Can they provide the copies of other officers who joined the army since 1960? |
Personally, I can't see how anybody wants to prove that Buhari lied under oath. He swore to an affidavit based on what he believed to be true. If a father who is not in possession of his kids birth certificate swears to an affidavit that all the children born to him by his wife are his, and later discovers (maybe through a DNA test) that one or all of the kids are actually not his; would you say he lied under oath. Hard to prove. He swore to the affidavit based on what he believed to be true. Is it possible that the army board could be in possession of his credentials (original or copies)? The answer is yes. Could they have lost it or destroyed it? Maybe. The burden of proof is on his accusers. I'd like to see this go to court. The case would be an interesting one. |
owolawitola:You still don't get it. I wasn't parking right in front of their gate but on the other side of the road. Like I said it is a narrow road. |
owolawitola:Wrong. Not every parking space is a parking space. I once wanted to park on a narrow street so I could go attend to some business in that neighbourhood. Several cars were already parked in a single file. I pulled up behind the last car but realized that I would be facing a building's gate. If I had remained there I would make it difficult for any car to come out of that premises because the road is too narrow. I had to reverse and leave adequate space between me and the last car so that any car pulling out of that building will be to be able to maneuver conveniently. That is responsible and considerate driving. Some other bad driver would have parked his car there and created chaos. That's the same way people double park all over the place creating problems for other road users. The usher may have had his reasons for asking him not to park in that particular spot. |
Bro, while the ushers were unnecessarily high-handed, you should also not have disobeyed a clear instruction. Your disobedience only goes to show that you have a stubborn streak in you. I can bet that the usher repeatedly told you not to park there, but you refused to listen. I won't even be surprised if you insulted the dude before going into the service. Or do you want to claim that you just kept mute while he was telling you not to park there? Don't give us half the story just to make yourself look good. ![]() Question. If it had been a MOPOL or Navy rating (dem like to dey flog people well ) that had told you not to park there, would you have disobeyed? Stop playing the victim. You were not exactly gentlemanly yourself. If you can't even obey simple instructions given to you directly in person, I wonder if you will obey simple traffic and civil instructions when nobody is watching.Change your ways or next time it will be LASTMA..., or whatever it is they have in Abuja. Ushers, you too try and use your church mind next time ehn? We know say OP dey stubborn, but two wrongs don't make a right. |
olusolaj:Sadly, the number of people in the 'bolded' alone will probably swallow up all of those that make up the second list. Probably by a ratio of 3:1 |
Yeske2:Good question. I've been wondering when in-sincerenigerian suddenly decamped. Abi Fani Kayode don comot your name from Abuja payment list? ![]() |
mya1:Yeah, Koku Bamboni! I read that while on holidays at my grandma's house in Ibadan. Ah, such sweet memories. |
xmileeasy:I still have an old coverless copy in my library. Classic book. |
Creamish:Oh my goodness. We had a song for this one too back in the days. ONWARD - Ole Ni Wale, Aji Ruler Dada BIG - Baba Iya Gani EXERCISE BOOK - Ede times Ede, Remi Koni Iya, Segun Elere Boolu, Odabo Odabo Kayode. Choi, can't even believe I remembered the song. |
I'm happy for the young lady, although I'm not sure if the English League is the best for her. The English ladies haven't proven themselves to be a big team in female football, unlike the Americans, Swedes and Norwegians. Well, I wish our girl all the best and pray she becomes a bigger star. |
obynoses:And you know all these things about everyone on this thread because you are psychic? Abi you be winch? Only you sabi who get PVC and who dey stay Lagos. You be principality? |
mpire:Funny thing is according to Mogidi, GEJ spent 9 years in Primary School. He hasn't come back to tell us why. |
Mogidi:Wow, the bold part is quite interesting. You mean President GEJ spent 9 years in Primary School?
Part of Dr Goodluck Jonathan's impressive CV SCHOOLS ATTENDED WITH DATES ST STEPHEN’S PRIMARY SCHOOL (NOW STATE SCHOOL) OTUOKE 1961 – 1965 ST MICHAEL’S PRIMARY SCHOOL, OLOIBIRI, BAYELSA STATE FSLC 1966 – 1969 MATER DEI HIGH SCHOOL, IMIRINGI, BAYELSA STATE 1971 – 1975 UNIVERSITY OF PORT HARCOURT 1977 – 1981 UNIVERSITY OF PORT HARCOURT 1983 – 1984 UNIVERSITY OF PORT HARCOURT 1987 – 1995 Part of Dr Goodluck Jonathan's impressive CV SCHOOLS ATTENDED WITH DATES ST STEPHEN’S PRIMARY SCHOOL (NOW STATE SCHOOL) OTUOKE 1961 – 1965 ST MICHAEL’S PRIMARY SCHOOL, OLOIBIRI, BAYELSA STATE FSLC 1966 – 1969 MATER DEI HIGH SCHOOL, IMIRINGI, BAYELSA STATE 1971 – 1975 UNIVERSITY OF PORT HARCOURT 1977 – 1981 UNIVERSITY OF PORT HARCOURT 1983 – 1984 UNIVERSITY OF PORT HARCOURT 1987 – 1995
What happened? kilakhan:The same WAEC that could not find the certificate of an exam I wrote in 1995 is the one that will find that of 1961? I hear you. Besides, let PDP go and request for it through a court order. |
ellechrystal:Have you preached this same message to Joseph Yobo, Kanu Nwankwo, and the many Nollywood actors openly supporting GEJ? Some of you don't even know what a democracy is. Everyone, including celebrities, are free to declare their support for any candidate. There is no rule against it. Or did Oprah Winfrey and many other American celebrities not openly campaign for Obama? And then you ask what one vote can do? Okay, sit at home and don't go and vote for GEJ on D-Day now. Since your vote doesn't matter. |
IGBOSON1:In this country, a minister's tenure is usually short and often at the whim of the President who appoints them. This is why the vision for the ministry must come from the Presidency. That way the vision can be passed on to the next person who takes over. This is what I've been trying to explain to some folks here. The minister of agriculture has been steady and has done a good job so far. Would it be nice for someone else to come and undo his good work? Princess Stella also tried while she was there. Should the new minister now undo her work under the President's watch? The vision must be clear. A world class airport at all times. Any minister or permanent sec who fails to ensure that must go. Then they'll know the President means business. |
phantom23:It's simply a management issue. The guy I quoted claims the problem is because the minister was changed. My question is will any minister remain there forever? Will you as a CEO let your company collapse simply because one manager left? This is not about President Jonathan, but about leadership and building legacies that last. The renovation exercise is a landmark achievement for this government. Now it is being rubbished for lack of maintenance. Should that not bother the President who signed of billions for its execution? Our leaders need to go a step beyond just building infrastructure but also ensuring that a culture of maintenance is established. We all know maintenance is our problem. Why don't we address it? |
