Sports › Re: Keshi Has Lost It - Victor Ikpeba by dabossman(m): 7:49pm On Oct 03, 2014
hayoakins: “For how long will Keshi build the Eagles,” Ikpeba who won the African Player of the Year award in 1997 asked in a Vanguard interview.

“He has been building this team since 2012 and still wants to continue building in 2014. No. What type of builder is he?

http://www.goal.com/en-ng/news/4687/2015-afcon-qualification/2014/10/03/5153170/keshi-has-lost-it-victor-ikpeba?ICID=HP_BN_1
And Ikpeba calls himself an ex-footballer? He should be ashamed of himself. Do you ever stop building a football team? Should Keshi just stick to the team that won Afcon in 2013 even if some players loose form or are no longer at their best? Has Barcelona or Bayern Munich stopped building their team simply because they've won their leagues and the Champions League? Why do they bring in new players every season?

How many years did it take Joachim Low to build the German team that won the World Cup? There were at least 10 new players in that squad from the one that played at South Africa 2010.

Ikpeba, are you sure you're qualified to analyses football with this kind of reasoning. A football team is always going through building. It never ends.

DATS Y WE APPEAR STRNG TO EUROPEANS ND DEY JST CHNGE D GAME IN D NIK OF TYM.
BY NW WE r SUPPOSED TO B HITING DEM HARD I MEAN VRY HARD.
It took Joachim Low 8 years to build the squad that won the World Cup. he started with the team in 2006, went to Euro 2008 and 2012 and World Cup 2010 and they won nothing. In that space of time, trust me he wasn't using the same players throughout. He kept mixing and matching. Building a team never stops. If not European clubs, especially those who have won the Champions League like Barca, Bayern, Chelsea, Man Utd wouldn't continue buying players every season. They will just stick to the same set for the next 10 years.

I will agree with you to an extent that African coaches lack tactical know-how; but it may be a factor of not having quality players. African players generally lack tactical and technical ability. They are more know for their physical abilities. This is the main reason why African teams fail at global events, even when they are coached by good European managers.

We should focus more on building technically and tactically sound players from youth level. We take too much pride in the skills and talents exhibited on our streets, while Europeans are building their kids through scientific methods in their academies. That is why we cannot hit them hard.

mrvictor: Keshi had issues with the best of Togolese squad while he coached Togo; Emmanuel Adebayor and co . Keshi is having same problems with the best of his Eagles players; Osaze, Emenike, Ike Uche and others. Then I think, Keshi is the problem!
Keshi is the bad workman that quarrels with his tools.
Have you stopped to think that African players are the problem? That they don't respect their coaches, especially when he is an African like them? How many times has Adebayor quit the Togolese team, only to return later? Did the same Osaze not have issues with Lagerback and Siasia? Did you not hear of how Kevin Prince Boateng insulted the Ghanaian coach at the last World Cup?

How many of them have the liver to do so at their European clubs? We've heard of Wayne Rooney, Ronaldo, Beckham, Jaap Stam and co having issues with Ferguson in his days at Man Utd. Does that mean Ferguson is a bad man-manager?

PastorOluT: If u ask me he brought it upon himself, though he was lucky the first time (winning the nations cup), bt the world cup betrayed his accurate abilities so its fair enough to kick him out (remember the game is all about result).

Keshi was never good enough tactically n it is affecting rhema boys, Siasia was far better though he was set up n bundled out.
Question is set up and bundled out by who?

THE PLAYERS!

The same players that pick issues with every coach. Who knows if they are busy trying to set Keshi up too with their lackluster approach to games.

ratiken: Crap!!!
Why are these players too quick to jump to the media with complaints? how many times have they complained about their club managers or they want to make us believe its always been smooth sails at their clubs. This has to STOP.
We as Nigerians need to stop patronizing them, no one is perfect ...... people should learn how to work with each other.
My sentiments exactly. We are all complaining about Keshi today, but it was the same with Amodu, the same with Eguaveon, Lagerback and Siasia. We all keep blaming the coaches all the time; calling them proud, egoistic and bad man-managers. What about the attitude of the players to national team duty? Our players seem to have over-sized egos. Probably because we praise and pamper their under-performing a$$es too much. The same Keshi that plays you constantly through qualifiers to the World Cup. now decides not to start you for one game because you were late to camp and now he is a bad person.

Get over yourself dude. The last goal you scored for the team was in friggin' 2013 against Ethiopia and you expect the coach to smile at you?
Sports › Re: Emenike Threatens To Quit Super Eagles by dabossman(m): 8:02am On Oct 02, 2014
It's like these days a coach can't comment on his players below par performance. When the coach heaps praises on his team and gives them credit for a good performance, it is all well and dandy. Complain about their loss of form or indiscipline and they take it as personal affront to their person.

You guys need to sit up and perform on the pitch. We are not concerned about your petty squabbles with your coach. Jeez! Too many average, under-performing players whining these days. If they are not quarreling with Amodu, it is Lagerback, Siasia or Keshi. You guys ain't Ronaldo or Messi for heavens sake. angry

Kai!! SMH!!
Let's be honesty with ourselves for once. Where is the mockery? That doodle is a true representation of the reality in our country today. When the average politician in Nigeria talks about youth or community empowerment this is what you get. They buy hundreds of okadas, keke napeps, taxis and danfos and distribute. That is how they empower Nigeria's youths. They hardly build factories, give scholarships or support small businesses with loans and grants. No, it is mostly okada, keke and danfo.

The designer has only depicted some of the most notable symbols in our society. It is not Google's fault that we don't have bullet or subway trains and double-decker buses. I bet they would depict China with bicycles and rickashaws too.

lusciouslex: My name is Felix Essien. Am a B.Sc holder. I've a 12years experience playing P.S2 soccer. I understand the game adequately and tactically than Stephen Keshi. It should be recalled that I was a member of the Mechanical Engineering football team that won the UniUyo inter-departmental games in 2011. I also coached the departmental team in 2013 that were unbeaten throughout my tenure. If Ivory Coast gave Lamouche( a profile-less coach) the job to take charge of their star-studded team then Nigeria can do same. All am asking is a chance to prove myself by taking up the office of the Head Coach. I promise to field all the players Nigerians will love to watch and will certainly bring back the good old days. Thank you!
Ol'boy if na by that one, me sef go don dey coach Eagles o! I have 13 years experience playing Football Manager and have won the EPL severally with two different teams, won the Champions League four times and even coached in Italy and Spain. Sports › Re: Keshi Vs Siasia(facts Only) by dabossman(m): 10:05am On Sep 29, 2014
Siasia coached both the Nigerian U-20 and Olympics teams to Silver medals at global tournaments. However, he failed at his very first Senior team job when he couldn't qualifier Nigeria for either the CHAN 2011 nor the AFCON 2012. He is still a good coach in my opinion.

Keshi on the other hand didn't do well at youth team level (AYC 2001), but has done better at Senior team level, coaching three different African teams (Togo, Mali and Nigeria) and qualifying two of them (Togo and Nigeria) for the senior World Cup. While he didn't get to coach Togo at the mundial, he got to lead Nigeria to the second round of the World Cup.

Keshi also led Nigeria to win AFCON 2013, becoming only the second person to win it as a player and coach. And also succeeded with CHAN where Siasia failed by qualifying Nigeria for the tourney for the first time, winning a bronze medal in the process.

Head-to-head, Keshi has done better than Siasia at Super Eagles level, although I was of the opinion that Siasia should have been given more time. I think Keshi too deserves some respect for his achievements, instead of all this ridicule.

ENZOSCIFO1: Leaving the kitchen is exactly what Keshi is trying to do , but not before setting the kitchen ablaze as payment for the shoddy treatment by FA and the general ungratefulness of Nigerians as a whole ( men like u)

Keshi will leave the eagles exactly where he picked them up from........Yes, the Gutters after just failing to qualify for AFCON and with him he goes with word Eagles and replace with Chickens name he met.

Nigeria, nation of scallywags, Ignorance and Ingrates
Hahahaha. Guy you harsh o! Oga Keshi, abeg no return us to 64th in Fifa ranking o.

But you spoke some bitter truths. Nigerians always ridicule their footballers out of reckoning eventually. I've seen it happen over the years; to Yekini, Oliseh, Okocha, Aghahowa, Kanu, Yakubu, Martins, Yobo and those who went into coaching like Siasia and Keshi. No matter how many laurels they win for us, we always tag them as being thrash and usher them out unceremoniously.

It is only after they are gone that we begin to remember them with nostalgia. That is when we realize that they were useful in their time. You can imagine folks asking for the return of the same Siasia whose head they demanded for 3 years ago. Nigerians are impatient and ungrateful. Most don't even realize that football is a dynamic game. You can't win it all, players won't always be in form, even the best coaches get it wrong. That's the beautiful game.

If Keshi's contract doesn't get renewed, I can bet that 3-7 years down the line Nigerians will remember Keshi with fond memories.

Sports › Re: NFF To Dump Keshi For Siasia. by dabossman(m): 5:39pm On Sep 26, 2014
This is funny. The same Nigerians (including NFF) who clamoured for Siasia's sack are now calling for his return. When some of us said let him be, they said he was thrash, lacked tactical and technical know-how; the very same things they are accusing Keshi of now. So, we've gone full circle now abi?

I will keep saying it; our problem goes beyond coaching. There is a dearth of quality talent in our team. Majority of our players play in inferior leagues. Those who are in top leagues are either squad players or worse, bench warmers. Which Nigerian player at the moment is pivotal to the success of their club.

Sadly, rather than accept this and do their best to function as a team, our players feel larger than life and strut around the field feeling like super stars, expecting the opposition to just roll over and die. Most of them hardly progress in their careers. they are more concerned with money than personal development. David Beckham and Ronaldo are said to spend hours after team practice working on their free kicks. Are our players that devoted to developing their craft? We the fans don't help too with the way we over hype them.

We need to go back to the developmental level. We blame coaches for lack of tactics and technic forgetting that it is players that execute tactics. A coach can shout himself hoarse, but if players lack the technical ability to execute his tactics, it is an effort in futility. We need to develop more technical players. Players who are not just physical, but intelligent. Players who can think on their feet. But most importantly players who have a desire to be the best in the world and work constantly towards it. It is not enough for our youth players to excel at U-17 and then fade away. An it is not just a factor of age. Drogba did not become a household name until he was like 26. He was labelled a late bloomer. Even Okocha peeked in his late 20's. But their class could not be denied. That's not the case these days.

Siasia or Keshi, it's all good for me. Nigerians should however douse their overtly high expectations. Our players are not the best in the World or even Africa.
