alaoeri: Check ur record Fergie won carling cup 2006.I'm talking league title you are talking Carling Cup. So who says LVG won't eventually win Capital One cup after 3 seasons? ![]() Give the dude a break. |
SavageGarden: I consider Arsenal fans to be more loyal andI'm almost tempted to agree with you. The way our fans have been whining in the last one year is near irritating. Every team goes through a slump. Deal with it. |
Guykhena: Van Gaal should be sackedThankfully, you're not Guykhena Glazier. ![]() |
glitest: Nah!!.....We didn't loose; So I'm good. That's the spirit. We didn't lose, we didn't concede. Hopefully, we can begin to score and win games. Those are the major problem areas for me. One goal in 3 games with Rooney, RVP and Mata. We have had more possession in a 3 games yet we can't translate that to goals. |
natureblack: and what good does it do to the progress of the team ?Patience bruv. Even Fergie went three seasons without a trophy between 2004 and 2006. LVG has just played 3 league games. Haba. |
natureblack: since we don't have what it takes to play 3man defence, what happens? What we have isn't working and hasn't been working for almost three years now. It took the genius of Fergie to win us our last two titles. Since Ronaldo left we have struggled badly even with our 4-4-2. It's time to try something new. Maybe 4-2-3-1, 4-1-2-1-2, or 3-5-2. The players can learn to play to a new formation. Those that can't adjust can be shipped out till we get it right. I'm not expecting a title this season, but hopefully we'll soon start seeing better play and good wins. 64% possession. We should be doing something better with that up front. |
seankay: but the question is can this formation work in the EPL played with so much pace and intensity.Dont also forget most teams attack from the flank so you gon be prone to counter when ur full backs overlapEven if you play a 4-4-2 and your full backs go forward ala Zabaleta, Ivanovic, Sagna, Evra, Contreao. You would still be exposed with two defenders and maybe a holding midfielder staying back. With 3-5-2 you would still have 3 defenders back and a maybe a holding midfielder. I think a 3-5-2 can work especially against teams with lesser quality. maybe not against the big guns, but mid table teams. C'mon you attack should keep them too busy to even overlap. |
natureblack: if I go by ur analysis then we would be doing more defending than attackingNo by my analysis we would be transiting from defence to attack. I don't know if you ever watched Cafu and Roberto Carlos play for Brazil. They were wing backs. They flew forward in attack and track back quickly when defending. if you have five men in midfield. When your wing backs go forward. Your 3 man-defence and a holding midfielder stay back. Almost like a back four. Players for the wings? Certainly not attacking midfielders or wingers like Valencia and Young. They are not defensive in nature. You need defenders with an attacking mentality. Maybe Rojo or Daley Blind on the left. On the right is the tricky one. If Rafael wasn't so short I would tip him. His work rate is good. Smalling, Jones, not enough quality even in a 4-4-2. |
gemiclem: ^^An intelligent footballing argument from you would make much sense don't you think? That would be more informative and mature. Fergie won his first league title after almost 5 years. Chelsea haven't won in 5 years. Arsenal, hhm. Why do you all always like the quick fix? |
natureblack: this is defence am talking about.Three man defence is never an option to withstand premier league attackNot true. What some of you fail to realize is that a 3-5-2 formation usually transits to 5-3-2. Henece when attacking you're on 3-5-2 (3 in defence), when defending it's 5-3-2. (5 in defence). I still insist that the problem is that we are using attacking players as wing-back not defensive players. |
I'm surprised that the complaints of most people on LVG's 3-5-2 formation is the defence. For me the problem is the attack. This is a formation that is supposed to be attack inclined. We have RVP, Rooney, Mata and even Di Maria up there. We should be pushing forward more to get goals. Remember the best form of defence is attack. If the attackers were keeping the opposition busy, United wouldn't be under so much pressure. |
dotcomnamename: Rafael van der Vaart:Eto'o also called Mourinho a fool. And the powerbrokers at Real Madrid and the Spanish press would probably agree. Does that mean they are right? |
xynerise: Yeah right! When we get relegated? No, once you get defensive wing backs to play and not attacking players like Young and Valencia. If you had a player in the mold of Evra (in his younger days) and a player in the mold of a Cafu playing as wing backs, this formattion would be super. Young and Valencia are not defensive minded so they tend to expose the back three. Hopefully when Shaw and Rojo are able to play, there'll be some stability. |
natureblack: Van Gaal is a very proud manA system takes time become inculcated. You think tiki-taka took off from day one? |
Ah, I see the vultures have gathered. |
princefunmi: Let me again ask, in a situation where there is chaos and there is no law and order, what exactly do you suggest we do? When I ask, I dont mean all those long and boring stereotypes like we need to start electing good leaders and all the BS everybody keeps screaming out. You and I know that is a tall order and won't happen very soon. Truth be told, if law and order collapses even in the advanced countries many Nigerians keep modelling after, a worse chaos will happen. The recent protests of the killing of the teenager recently in the US is a vivid example. People actually highjacked the protests and turned it to a full scale riot and went looting and pillaging. There are institutions that are supposed to enforce law and order. The reason why we are where we are is because even those institutions have become corrupt. I'm not one to blame our leaders for all of Nigeria's problems. The average Nigerian is part of the problem. However, you cannot discard the place of leadership in any of this. Where there is no leadership, things will collapse, be it in a nuclear family or at the national level. So that which you call BS is actually not crap. Leadership doesn't refer just to the President. What example does the average Nigerian set in his place of leadership? Now should we keep quiet and act like ostriches with our head buried in the sand? Hell no. Try living quietly with a toothache and no medication. |
milehigh06: @ OP...do ypou know that the internet that you are using today and the freedom you have in Nigeria today was made possible by Nigerian media men who spoke up against the ills under the military junta...and such led to the death of people like Dele Giwa,Ken Saro Wiwa,MKO Abiola,Kudirat Abiola and co and you have the nerve to cpme and insult their spirits with this BS you typed..how do you think Nigeria got to where it is today if not for the fight of those people...do you know how many times Gani went to jail for speaking up against different military Govt.? what of Fela(though to some he was a druggy but he spoke more truth than people like the OP) wow...do you realize what you are saying?Don't mind him bro. There are just too many "YES MEN" in this country these days. Things are getting worse and we are just supposed to "siddon" and "look" because we don't want a negative foreign image. Who cares what foreigners think? I'm more concerned about the future of Nigerian kids. Is this the society we will bequeath them? A country were lawlessness and unruliness reigns. Where corruption is the norm? Image indeed. Even Sprite got the memo: IMAGE IS NOTHING, THIRST IS EVERYTHING. Nigerians thirst for a functional and better Nigeria.
|
princefunmi: But ask yourself a very simple question. Not ALL, but MOST. The level of moral decadence in this country is alarming, trust me. Indiscipline is the order of the day. Things as simple as obeying traffic laws, respecting the rights of others, doing what is logically and morally right are no longer taken seriously. What should be an oddity is now the norm. That is a big problem bro. |
OP, is this a typical Nigerian mentality or something? I want to think not. So we should not discuss our issues because of foreigners perceptions about us right? You must be kidding me. Who cares what foreigners think? We just want a country that works, period. If our leaders tackle issues as soon as they come up, would we be discussing them endlessly? If you have a headache or toothache and you don't take medication, are you not going to be complaining about the ache endlessly? Is it not when you finally get relief that the issue becomes a forgotten matter that you may never mention again? If Boko Haram had been quashed at its infancy, would it continue to be a news worthy issue? If the Nigerian military was well equipped to tackle insurgency and any external threats to our nationhood, would we be here discussing their failings? If we are honest enough to ensure that no age cheats play for our age grade competitions and constantly expose anybody who tries to cheat the system, would we still be talking about age cheats since 1983 when we attended our first global age-grade tournament? If we had constant power, would we still be talking endlessly about it? If workers were paid as at when due and we didn't have these incessant strikes, would they still be topics of discussion? If majority of our citizens had access to quality education, jobs, a better standard of living would we be talking about these issues till today? Oh, you think foreign nations don't have their own issues and their citizens don't complain? Do you follow global issues at all? Gun-related violence, racial profiling, immigrant laws, Obamacare, foreign policies; are all of these not issues Americans discuss passionately? Doesn't that give other nations an image of America being a violent and bossy country. Aren't the British usually believed to be stuck-up and racist by people who haven't even been there? Do they give a rat's a$$ what we think about them? Let's fix our problems and stop chasing shadows like "foreigners perceptions" or "our Image". A good product needs very little and only targeted publicity. My two and a half kobo. |
Unionised: Don't laugh yet.You should also understand my context too. Why are we so quick to cast aspersions on any Nigerians age once they are public figures? If Davido says his age we will say it's a lie. Genevieve, na lie. Iheanacho, na lie. Is every Nigerian an age cheat? |
tokiniofficial: Look @ d faces and physiques of d people you're calling na?I was only responding to the Unionised guy that quoted me with Aghahowa having kids at a young age or being married. Just trying to point out to him that Europeans have kids early and marry early too. Doesn't prove anything as far as age falsification is concerned. My simple question is why do we make excuses for players of other countries but are quick to nail our own, even with no proof? I get irritated when some folks make it seem like age cheats only exist in Nigeria. Diego Costa was born in Brazil, a country that has been enmeshed in age falsification issues in the past. How do we know he is not older than 25? Marcel Desailly moved to France from Ghana at age 4. Are we sure he was really 4 when he left Ghana? Players like Clarence Seedorf and Edgar Davids were not born in Europe, but in Suriname, a former Dutch colony is South America. Can we truly verify their true ages? |
Unionised: Yep, they usually have kids too by 17.Don't make me laugh. Even Europeans marry at age 18 and some are even divorced by 21. Raheem Sterling already had a kid by age 17. Neymar at 19. So what's your point? |

bigtt76: Inexperience girl ....she only needed to shield the ball into the net as no other german player were in sight to disrupt its goal bound movement. They've learnt shaaa ....at least they have hope for being included in Super Falcons.Going by these images by NSNA, One could argue that she was only doing what some players do when their teammate scores; rifles the net with another shot to celebrate. What if she had bent down to pick the ball because she believed it had crossed the line, would they have flagged for handball? Didn't see the game, but these images raise suspicion, especially because the linesman didn't raise the flag even when the ball seemed to have crossed the line. Fifa may need to explain the rules to us again. |
hifaif: Maybe his skin is aging too quickly. A lot of factors can make you look far older than your age. Gene is one. The food you eat is another.Do you make these same "excuses" for Africans, nay Nigerians? A Nigerian youth (u-17)who grew up in the ghetto or village, hawked on the streets or worked on the farm and practically became a man before he was 14 is expected to look like a 17 year old European who never did a day of hard labor in his life. Again I ask, do you make these "arguments" for Nigerian players? |
Briareos: Challenge accepted. I suggest you start from "On The Origin Of Species" by Charles Darwin. Then you might understand nobody ever said we are from ape but we share the ame origin.Ah, Charles Darwin, yeah right. It so easy for you to believe that man evolved to the level of homo sapien because some dude said so. So what has stunted the evolution of man? Or is homo sapien the best we can get? When will we maybe evolve to the point where our arms become wings so we can fly unassisted by mechanical contraptions. Will my dog someday walk upright on two legs and speak like a man or is it only the human specie that has been selfishly gifted with this higher level of evolution? How unfair can nature be? Seems to me that just as some people believe in what you call biblical fairytales, you also believe in fairy tales as written by Charles Darwin. Personally, I prefer Enid Blyton. Gnomes, fairies and unicorns sound more ineresting than Darwin's tales. |
AtheistD: It is all out there for people to study, challenge and understand. If you don't understand it that does not mean that it is not valid. It works. We built technology, processes and civilization based off this knowledge. To deny it is to deny our very existence. We are here because we are aware we are here. We study our environment to understand better our environment and how we can improve our lives. We distribute this knowledge publicly so that the knowledge and information so that our future generations can understand and improve upon what we currently know.Yes, in the same manner that some people have done studies and come to believe that there is a Superior being ou there. Are all scientist atheist? Are there not people who have contributed to the evolution of science who are religious. Should we discredit their landmark discoveries that have revolutionized our very existence simply because they believe in God and attribute their scientific successes to God? Again I ask, does not believing in God grant you a greater IQ or make you more intelligent? Does it put extra cash in your pocket than those who believe in God? You accuse Christians and Muslims of being overzealous and shoving their beliefs in your nose, yet your answer to that is doing the same thing you criticize. |
GodMode: Religion is part of mental slavery. So is Science and Western education. How many scientific theories have you tried to prove on your own. How many scientific inventions do you understand its workings to the nitty grity? Medicine, Engineering, Mathematics, etc. Do you understand it all? But you believe it once they say it is science right? That is Mental Slavery right there. People are free to believe in whatever they want. Get of your high horse bruv. |
alentyno: Nice one by the docDon't mind these Nairaland atheist abeg. I have friends in Europe who don't believe in God or Jesus, but they still respect the choice and free will of others to believe in whatever they choose, be it Christianity, Islam, Buddhism, Scientology, Voodoo or whatever. Not so for Nairaland atheist. They are no different from the ethnic or political e-warriors you have here. Everything has to be a fight to prove whose belief is superior. News flash Nairaland atheist! Not believing in God doesn't make you more intelligent, richer, or superior to anyone. Why don't you just live and let live and be the free thinkers and free spirits you all claim to be? |
Dreal1247: .If you think anybody or any group can truly Islamize Nigeria, then you surely do not understand the dynamics and diversity of this country, Nigeria. So, how exactly do you think Nigeria will be Islamized? By a decree, legislative bill, evangelization, waving a magic wand or brute force? And you think Ndigbo, the Niger Deltans, the Middle Beltans and even the Yorubas will just fold their arms and let the Hausa/Fulani Islamize Nigeria? What you and people like you fail to realize is that there is an equal if not greater force to religion that exists in Nigeria. It is called Ethnicity. When ethnicity comes into the picture, even religion takes a back seat. The moment any Islamisation agenda is labelled s an Hausa/Fulani agenda, other tribes will kick against it ferociously. Even the Mujahideen, Asari Dokubo and all the Yoruba muslims will not buy into it. Any attempt to Islamize Nigeria will only begin its disintegration. The boys in the creeks are not asleep, neither is the Biafran agenda. Even the muted Odua Republic proponents still exist. All these groups just need something likea full-frontal Islamization assault to show everyone that they are tired of Hausa/Fulani dominance. Most of all, the goose that lays the golden egg, OIL, is still a major factor, and it is thousands of miles away from the North. As long as oil continues to sustain our economy, no Northern leader will attempt to rock the boat. Not even Abacha in all his madness attempted such. |
gbodimowo: Nope you are wrong only health sciences and pharmacy pay 14650 faculty of technology 10300 and that's to others while the arts pay 78007,800 per session? That's less than N1,000 per month for a 9-month session. Jeez, that is less than what most students use to pay their BBM subscription. Hhm, cheapest paying school? Okay o! Won't say more than that. |
