One of the children of the late entertainment icon, Emmanuel has narrated how Baba Sala died and according to him, the foremost comedian died in his sleep after taking his supper. Emmanuel told The Punch that his father, Moses Adejumo, ate his last meal around 6pm and took a rest for a while before he went to bed and died in his sleep. He stated that Adejumo’s youngest wife, Funmilayo, went to his room to tell him something when she discovered that Baba Sala had died. He said: “Baba died last night. He died at 81. I was not there but his wife called the eldest son of the family immediately it happened and that one called me and narrated everything to me. His body had been taken to the mortuary. We will need to hold a meeting before we can fix anytime for his burial. Some of the children are just hearing about it this morning. “I will miss so many things about my dad. He was a very lively person. He was always advising us even those who were not his biological children, he advised them equally. He would tell you what to do and guide you. “Though he was not wealthy, he was rich in the knowledge of God and he had a wealth of experience. He would tell us that his own father did not encourage him to be a comedian, that he didn’t have anybody to advise him when he was growing up but he was always guiding us and praying for us. “He was a prayerful man. He was a Godly person, he never missed morning and evening prayers. If there was anything he was expecting or any trip he wanted to undertake, he would instruct all of us to pray and fast for nothing bad to happen. We all learnt this from him. “We were together with him two Sundays ago because that day was his Family Harvest Day. He was the minister in charge at the Cherubim and Seraphim Church Idasa but that Sunday was set aside for him as his own family harvest and we were there. After the harvest, we played with him before we departed. “He was not sick. I was told that he ate last night. He did not die of any sickness. It was just the time for him to go and be with the Lord. One of my younger ones talked to him on the telephone on Saturday and he was okay. His wife, Iya Rhoda, told me that he ate around 6pm and rested for a while before he entered into his room to lie down on the bed. “His wife went inside the room to tell him something and she discovered that he was not responding. She started calling him, ‘Chairman, Chairman,’ but no response. She shook him and discovered that he had gone.” https://lailasnews.com/how-baba-sala-died-son-talks-on-icons-demise-after-taking-supper/

A Nigerian lady identified as @iam_zamahni on Twitter has taken to the platform to narrate a shocking story of her neighbour’s daughter who came back alive from ritualist den after the native doctor rejected her. According to the lady, the kidnapped lady could not be used for ritual simply because she has been previously used by a superior power. Read her tweet below; My Neigbours daughter that was kidnapped on the 28th of Sept just returned home this morning crying. She was kidnapped to be used for Rituals but the Native Doctor said a superior power from ijebu already used her soul for Rituals and she can’t be used again, cos she’s USELESS According to her; she travelled to Abuja to meet a friend she has known for sometime. On getting there the man was richer than she expected but she suspected something was wrong cos he can’t be so rich from selling only perfume oils. They spent the night together and she was only getting credit alerts but he didn’t want to have secx with her cos he was saving her for Rituals. The 3rd day came he told her he will be travelling that she can stay in the hotel till anytime she wants to travel home. According to her; that night by 2am someone came to wake her up, she said she can’t remember who,but she followed the person, only to see herself in a shrine and the only person she could recognise was her friend. (The guy she went to see in Abuja) and there were other girls too So she was furious, trying to ask the people how she got there bt nobody was answering her. She said she watch them doing their enchantment and she also saw other girls were coming in, ( probably runs Girls ) and they were all together, the ones they took out never came back Then someone came to where they were and asked her to follow him she followed him again, on getting to the shrine they told her so sit inside a calabash, she did but nothing happened. Then the Native Doctor tied a leaf around her neck and Screamed!!! Saying they brought a corpse He then called her friend (the guy she went to see in Abuja) in anger the Native Doctor slapped him and asked him if he’s not serious with performing the rituals and that he has 48hrs to provide someone or he’ll run mad. That she (my neighbours daughter) has been used previously She has been used previously and that she’s not worth anything, and anyone who comes incontact with her sexually also carries the same curse, and that’s how it’ll be till till eternity. He then called some people to throw her away. They came and carried her away. According to her They dropped her in the middle of the road, with the intention that a trailer or truck will drive by and crush her to death. But luckily for her the driver saw her in the middle of the road naked n stopped. He took off his shirt nd covered her, moved her from the road n drove off According to her she was just by the road seeing people passing by but she couldn’t say a word, they probably thought she was MAD. So a relative from same village who knows her father saw her there and called her dad, that he saw her daughter sitting by the road looking Mad And the Dad was shocked cos they’ve been trying to reach her on phone and her room mates in school don’t know her whereabout. They found her somewhere in ogun state and she came home this morning. Her parents are making preparations to take her back to ijebu to trace where and who used her for Rituals. Imagine having a beautiful face and nothing good is coming your way cos nobody is seeing you, someone made you a walking corpse cos you’re desperately in love with money. https://lailasnews.com/read-shocking-reason-why-native-doctor-rejected-lady-for-ritual/ L

Singer, Olawale Ashimi, aka Brymo, practically set blogosphere aflame after he performed semi-nude in London and the video immediately went viral on the Internet. For the performance, Brymo wrapped a piece of clothe around his loins while his butt was left bare. In a chat with Sunday Scoop, Brymo explained the reason for his choice of clothing. He said: “That was the way our forefathers used to dress before the arrival of the West. As a matter of fact, some months ago, a picture circulated on the Internet of a wealthy Igbo farmer who dressed that way in 1930. I just wanted to remind people of our past. It surprises me that people are shocked whenever I dress that way. That was the same way I dressed in the video for my song, Heya. In this part of the world, we are mostly consumers; not creators. If the advanced world should come here and take all of their technologies, we would be left naked. “However, I appreciate the people who follow my music and see it as a form of artistic expression. Those are the people I do this for. For those who don’t like it; sorry, I don’t know what to do about that.” Meanwhile, the singer also admitted that he was often misunderstood. He said: “Yes, I am often misunderstood because some people don’t understand what I do. Most of these people are not in the entertainment industry; so, they don’t really understand the concept behind the art. I don’t have a problem with the fact that the mainstream industry doesn’t celebrate me because they only celebrate those they can control. I had already become a musician before finding out how the music industry works. I had two options – to either pack my bags and run or stay. A lot of things are wrong with the music industry as it is currently set up because there is no structure. After releasing an album, an artiste is supposed to take a break for about a year or two before recording another album; but it is not so here.” Brymo noted that most international companies sign Nigerian artistes with the intention of exploiting them. He added: “When it comes to international deals, I have had about three offers and we took one with PMG, a record company based in Oklahoma, USA. The deal lasted for a year and I decided to be independent after that. I was also offered a deal by Sony but we didn’t take it because they were not ready to give us what we asked for. My experience with foreign labels has shown that they are more interested in taking our catalogue away. In the future, all our musicians would be depending on foreigners to pay them royalties.” https://lailasnews.com/why-i-performed-semi-nude-in-london-brymo/ lalasticlala

Former Big Brother Africa star, Uti Nwachukwu, was seriously back-lashed when he begged American superstar, Taraji Henson, popularly known as Cookie of Empire, for help online. Nigerians became furious and wondered what could have pushed him to do that. But while speaking with Sunday Scoop, Uti Nwachukwu rubbished claims that he wanted the American to help him, saying the post was nothing serious. According to him, he is a fan of Cookie and as an avid user of the social media, he makes a lot of comments on people's post and his posts are not devoid of jokes. He said: “It was a joke; people should not take it seriously. I always make silly comments on Cookie’s Instagram page. People are free to say whatever they want to say. I am just a fan of Cookie. I comment a lot online and I joke with my loved ones and friends.” Most of his critics have blasted him for the joke as he also regularly rants about social media beggars and does not hesitate to show his disdain towards them. Uti Nwachukwu, who seemed to be totally fed up with the rate at which some of his followers hit his DM to request for money, once stated that the creators of Instagram did not create the platform for beggars. https://lailasnews.com/i-was-joking-when-i-asked-american-star-for-help-uti-nwachukwu/ lalasticlala

A Nigerian ex-footballer, who is a former State-level football player, and his Indian wife were arrested on Monday in India for duping people on the pretext of custom clearance for gifts sent by them, the police said on Wednesday, Times of India reports. They have duped a social worker, the police said. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Dwarka) Anto Alphonse said that the accused, identified as Ifeanyi Joachin Nwafor, who has played for three State-level teams in Chennai and Kerala, and his wife were arrested from Dabri on Monday. The police said that the social worker, who runs an NGO, approached them and said that one George Moor, a UK-based man, had requested her to accept gifts for the poor in India. She said she then got a call from a woman, who claimed that she was from the Customs Department and that the complainant would have to pay money to receive the gifts. The victim paid over ₹1 lakh on two occasions. She, however, got suspicious after more money was demanded. After she approached the police, an investigation was taken up and bank account details were sought. The CCTV footage of the ATMs from where the deposited money was withdrawn were also scanned, after which the accused were arrested. “During interrogation, it was found that Nwafor is from Nigeria. In 2009, he had come to India on a business visa. In 2012, he came in contact with the woman [his co-accused] through Facebook, who is from Assam. They later started living together in Delhi and eventually got married,” Mr. Alphonse said. The police said that Nwafor made several fake Facebook accounts approach people through the social media. After taking them into confidence, he used to tell them about sending precious gifts for them. His wife used to pose as Customs officer and call them, they said. The police claimed to have recovered over ₹6 lakh that they had collected by from different people by cheating them. Mobile phones, jewellery, laptops among other articles have also been seized, the police further said. https://lailasnews.com/nigerian-ex-footballer-wife-held-for-fraud-in-india/

Barely four days to the Osun state gubernatorial election, the Nigerian police Wednesday filed a four-count charge, including examination malpractice, against People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Senator Ademola Adeleke. The police, in a Federal High Court in Abuja, charged him for examination malpractice, aiding and abetting, impersonation, and criminal conspiracy, Guardian reports. Police alleged that Ademola and his brother Sikiru Adeleke registered and sat for the National Examination Council Examination (NECO) 2017 as internal candidates, impersonating students of the school at the ages of 57 and 42 years respectively. It also alleged that Ademola Adeleke made a statement that he registered for the May/June diet of the National Examination Council examinations, which is made for internal students. Police spokesman Jimoh Moshood told newsmen that the duo did not sit for the exams, however. Moshood explained further that both the Senator and his brother Sikiru Adeleke’ s pictures were captured in the school’s photo book of 2017 but no NECO seal was found on their photos, unlike the rest of the students. In another news, The West African Examination Council, WAEC, has also confirmed before an Abuja High Court that Senator Ademola Adeleke sat for the 1981 examination of the council, but failed to pass any paper. The examination council confirmed that Adeleke only made appearance for English Language exam where he had an F9. https://lailasnews.com/police-file-examination-malpractice-charge-against-adeleke lalasticlala

One of the causalities of the AAU cult killing during a graduation party at the school yesterday, was a corps member, Ugwi Mary Martha, serving in Niger State. Martha, a Banking and Finance graduate of the institution, was visiting a friend who just graduated, when she was caught up in the tragic event that occurred after a fight broke out at a bar at Judges quarters, Ekpoma. One of the men involved in the fight was reported to have left the scene only to return with his friends with guns and opened fire on his opponent and other people that were there present. According to reports, about 10 students died from the incidents and many others injured. Nigerians have however reacted to the cult killing incident in the school and most people called for the closure of the school. Read below: One of those, who called for the closure of the institution, Josephine Ajanaku, with the handle, @queen_toy said: “I think the school needs to be shut down, this is too much.” Another user, Osa @droptop_osa said: “Not close down permanently but temporarily till they get to the root of the matter. 10 deaths one night is too much.” Ehiogs Gracy @ehiogsgracy, joined the call for the closure of the school as she said: “pls AAU should be closed. The rate at which students die during graduation is alarming, with this I can’t even say I graduated from that school, what a loss Other social media users like Akano Iyke Raymond, @_iykeofficial, disagree that the school should be closed. He reasoned that this incident shouldn’t be used to judge the school negatively as many great minds have graduated from the institution. He wrote: ” Coman shut it down na. What about great individuals that graduated from the school.” Joy Aimalohi @Joy_aimalohi said: “I don’t think the school has anything to do with their deaths, the shootout was not even inside the school compound so why close down a school when the school is not the one telling the students to fight and kill themselves.” https://lailasnews.com/corps-member-visiting-her-friend-among-casualties-at-aau-cult-killing/ lalasticlala

Fight erupted between two women in a South African Church after the pastor of the church gave a revelation to one of the women, whose best friend is the one behind her problems. Pastor Alph Lukau of Alleluia Ministries International began to prophesy two friends who came to his church for prayers and the prophesy led to a fight when it was revealed that one was responsible for the other's business woes. One of the women is named Pamela and the other is Japa. During the prophecy, Pastor Lukau told Japa that her business partner who usually invests so much in her business has suddenly turned his back on her. Japa agreed that this is true and the pastor went on to say that the business partner has also demanded that she returns the plane tickets he bought for her and has also taken back the money he gave to her. Japa also agreed that the pastor was right. The pastor then went on to tell her that the cause of her problems is someone very close to her. At this point, congregants were looking shocked. The pastor then goes on to name the person behind her problems and it turned out to be Pamela. Pamela admitted to this and apologized repeatedly, saying she was jealous. "Pamela Why?" the pastor kept repeating. As Pamela tried to apologize to Japa, Japa lunged at her and began fighting her in church. Church members seemed surprised and amused by this as the fight went on. Both women were soon separated by church officials. The mother of the Christian student, Leah Sharibu, kidnapped by the Boko Haram Sect some months ago, Mrs Sharibu Rebecca , has related her pains on not seeing her daughter for months. In a report by the Punch, Mrs Sharibu Rebecca stated that her saddest moment was when after expressing joy and happiness that her daughter had been freed, she woke up to know that she was only dreaming. She added that the family had not remained the same since the unfortunate incident. Leah Sharibu was one of the 110 female students of the Government Girls’ Science and Technical College, Dapchi, Yobe State, who were abducted on February 19, 2018, by Boko Haram terrorists. While others were released by the terrorists following negotiations, Leah is still being held captive because she refused to renounce her Christian faith. Rebecca Sharibu spoke in an interview at the headquarters of the Church of Christ in Nations in Jos during the second anniversary of the Arewa Christians and Indigenous Pastors Association. Mrs Sharibu said: “I am Rebecca Sharibu, mother of Leah Sharibu. I have only two children, Leah Sharibu and Donald Sharibu who is in SS1. My husband works in Yola as a civil servant but I am a primary schoolteacher in Dapchi. The absence of Leah has affected my life because we have always been feeling very bad. “We have been feeling very bad and our lives have not been the same because of the absence of my daughter. My plea to President Muhammadu Buhari is that he should take action to bring back my daughter, Leah. “My daughter has been taken and held captive since February 19, 2018. I have faced trauma since. But I had a dream last month (August) that my daughter was freed and she returned home. I was very happy and overjoyed that Leah came back, but only to wake up and realised that it was all a dream. “That was my worst and saddest moment; I felt very bad and started crying again because it was a dream and not reality. I believe that one day and by God’s grace, Leah will be back.” The woman also confirmed that the voice of the girl in the audiotape released recently by the Boko Haram sect was her daughter’s. She said: “Yes, I can confirm that the audio voice that was released last time was the voice of my daughter, Leah Sharibu. We were at home and she was in school with her colleagues. We did not know what happened but only heard that Boko Haram members arrived at our place and abducted them. “We went to the school the next day and saw nobody. The report we got was that their captors took away 110 students, including my daughter, Leah Sharibu.” The National President of ACIPA, Luke Shehu, said while former President Goodluck Jonathan was complacent in stopping the insurgency, there was a proliferation of light and small arms, the emergence of Fulani militia, impunity and genocide under Buhari. Shehu said: “The constant weekly, if not daily killings by Boko Haram or Fulani herdsmen can no longer be tolerated. With a nostalgic sad memory, we will recall the September 2, 2018 killing of 14 innocent people again in Barkin-Ladi. We are aware of their grand plan of subtle and ferocious plan to take over indigenous lands. “The Fulani militia attack at will and random, we are aware of the flagrant provocating and inciting words of Fulani leaders without arrest or prosecution.” https://lailasnews.com/my-worst-moment-was-day-i-dreamt-about-leahs-freedom-mrs-sharibu/

A new craze sweeping through United Kingdom is seeing a number of kind notes left on ambulances attending emergencies and some people dropping cash on Ambulance windscreens to appreciate paramedics for their good job. According to Metro Uk, the move comes after a spate of rude notes being left on the emergency vehicles, with people moaning about paramedics blocking drives while saving lives. Community first responder Carol Lewis from South East Coast Ambulance Service saw one note pinned to the window of the vehicle after responding to an emergency call. I can’t begin to imagine how hard your job must be so have some breakfast on me. ‘Once again, thank you so much.’ The kind gesture has been branded a ‘brilliant internet sensation’ after support for the nice notes surged on Facebook commending paramedics as ‘local heroes.’ Bill Bayley said: ‘The kindness of people never surprises me. ‘What does surprise me is that the money was still there when they got to their ambulance.’ Richard Walsh said: ‘Love it – that’s how to get your message home and give these local heroes a treat.’ A third note was found by paramedics more than 160 miles away in Flint, North Wales, who were pleasantly surprised to find a note and a fiver when they returned to their vehicle after dealing with an emergency. It read: ‘Thank you for blocking my driveway to save a life. Refreshments on me.’ Ambulance crew member, Aimee Louise, responded to the gesture on Facebook. She said: ‘Returning to the ambulance after a call to find this heartwarming message tucked under the wiper. ‘Absolutely made our day. Such a heartwarming gesture. Thank you so much kind stranger.’ https://lailasnews.com/britons-drop-cash-on-ambulance-windscreens-to-thank-paramedics lalasticlala

The 72 students of a Nigerian school in Kenya, Caritas Mariana Secondary School in Thika, were sent home after the institution was closed over allegations of sexual abuse and extreme religious practices. The school that is run by a Nigerian priest is now embroiled in damning allegations that also include drug abuse and employment of unregistered teachers. It is not the first time that Fr. Bertrand Maria Nwachukwu, who is in charge of the Caritas Mariana mission, has been linked to a controversial saga involving school children. In 2016, Kiambu County officials raided a primary school and a children’s home run by his organisation after one of the pupils died and separate claims emerged of sexual molestation. He responded by writing a protest letter accusing government officials of malice. On Wednesday, Thika Sub-County Director of Education Ronald Mbogo said the allegations against the Caritas Mariana Secondary School in Thika are ” very serious”. Mbogo said he received reports from an anonymous source who also claimed that the school employed unregistered teachers. He revealed that a team from the Sub-County education office carried out investigations and later recommended immediate closure of the school after substantiating the damning allegations. Education ministry officials have since initiated transfer of the students to neighbouring schools. In an unexpected twist of events, parents joined the school management in claiming that the ministry has “ulterior motives”. They are accusing the officials of being behind a ploy to grab the land on which the school in Thika is built. “Parents are now stranded with their children at home and have nowhere to take them. Why did the officials close the school in the middle of the year? This is against the ministry’s policy,”Henry Ngure said. Ngure, who is the Parents Teachers Association (PTA) chairman, insisted that move has jeopardised the fate of 10 KCSE candidates who failed to get admission into other schools. Education officials have however indicated that names of the said students have been forwarded to the ministry and further assured parents that their children would be catered for. The school director John Mwaura has since denied the allegations and even refutes the report from the ministry that investigations were conducted. https://lailasnews.com/nigerian-school-in-kenya-closed-over-sexual-abuse-allegations/ lalasticlala

For the N3 trillion Nigeria has received from China in the last four years, every Nigerian owes China N15,000 in debt. That’s just N3,000 short of minimum wage, Daily Trust reports. The debt comes from two huge tranches of aid from China: $3.1 billion in 2014 and $6 billion for infrastructure in the last three years, according to political analyst Theophilus Abbah. Simple mathematics. Divide the combined total, just over N3 trillion, by the 198 million population Nigeria always talks about: that’s a nice N15,000 in debt to China for every Nigerian. And that doesn’t even include the loan agreement signed this week in Beijing where China pledged $60 billion in credit facilities, a quarter of it interest free. Analysts say getting governments indebted to China is the republic’s way of outsmarting the US and the UK in Africa trade “They are active in Liberia, Ghana, Angola,” minister of state for petroleum, Ibe Kachikwu, told Bloomberg. “They are throwing money where their mouth is and in very many respect is one area where they have beaten both the US, European and British in things like this. “Africa requires a lot of development funds; China is able to provide it. Not just provide in terms of money but provide with adequate technology.” The implication is Africa may be unable to resist Chinese trade and international politics. Recently, at the World Health Assembly, the US proposed watering down recommendations against breastmilk substitutes and threatened all countries who opposed its stand with sanctions. Only Russia stood up to the US and saved the recommendation. A United States lawmaker, Rep Chris Smith, chairman of the Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Africa, said in a recent opinion article that China also uses foreign aid as a “bargaining chip” in corrupt African countries with plenty of natural resources for them to exploit. “AidData, a research laboratory at the College of William and Mary, argued in written testimony submitted to my committee that China effectively buys the votes of African governments at the United Nations; they concluded that if African countries voted with China at the UN an extra 10 per cent of the time, they would receive an 86 per cent bump in assistance,” the lawmaker said. Nigeria has accepted the Chinese Yuan as a reserve currency, which will begin to compete with the US dollar. The US lawmaker lamented that the Chinese in-road into Africa could be dangerous. “All of these trends—rising levels of debt, shoddy infrastructure projects, and investment that permits human rights abusers to consolidate their influence and power—point to serious risks for the future of the African continent.” https://lailasnews.com/every-nigerian-owes-china-n15000-political-analysts/

Members of the Not-too-Young-to-Run movement in Gombe State, have complained at its conference that some state governors are preventing them from vying for public offices, by increasing the price of nomination forms. The National Leader of the movement, Hamza Lawal, said this at a press conference organised by the movement in Gombe. Lawal decried that the high cost of the nomination forms for the 2019 general elections, will make youths and qualified politicians to shelve their ambitions. He said the whole idea of paying an exorbitant rate for nomination form is part of a grand conspiracy to keep the system only for the moneybags and shut out those with less financial muscle. “The movement notes, with concern, the announcement on the cost of nomination forms by various parties which presents a major impediment to youth participation in politics.” Lawal recommended that the cost for nomination forms by various parties should not exceed N2m for the presidential aspirant, N1m for governorship aspirant, N600,000 for senatorial aspirants, N400,000 for House of Representatives and N200,0000 for state House of Assembly. He, however, lauded the leadership of some political parties that had reserved tickets for young men and women with character, capacity and competence. https://lailasnews.com/not-too-young-to-run-movement-decry-high-cost-of-nomination-form lalasticlala

A 23-year-old lady, Opeyemi Adamson, has allegedly stabbed her neighbour, Taiwo Olowookere, to death for calling her shaku-shaku. The incident reportedly happened at their house in the Meiran area of Lagos State. According to Punch Metro, 28-year-old Taiwo lived with the suspect’s mother-in-law, who accommodated her after she separated from her husband. Opeyemi, who lived with her husband, stayed in the same compound with the victim. The duo were said to have nursed animosity towards each other until Friday, August 24 when things took a tragic turn. The deceased had reportedly complained about Opeyemi’s eight-months-old baby, saying the child’s noise disturbed her. The suspect reportedly insulted her, which led to exchange of words. Taiwo, who reported the incident to the police before her death, said her assailant became angry after she (Taiwo) called her shaku-shaku woman (useless person), adding that she stabbed her in the neck. She had said: “About three months ago, I had a problem with my husband. The woman I was staying with was her (Opeyemi) mother-in-law. “On a particular day, my child was ill and I took him to a hospital. When I returned, I greeted her, but she refused to respond. That was when our misunderstanding started. “Around 7am on August 24, I went to bath my child. While doing that, her child started making a noise. I called her that her child was disturbing me, but she abused me. “She started cursing me and I called her shaku-shaku woman. She asked why I would call her such a name. She said she would show me what a shaku-shaku woman was like. She went inside and brought out a knife which she used to stab me in the neck.” The victim reported the case at the Meiran Police Station and Opeyemi was arrested. Taiwo was taken to a local medical centre where she was treated until her death. Opeyemi, who spoke to our correspondent, however, blamed the victim’s husband for her death, while she also accused Taiwo of jealousy. She said: “Her husband always beat her up and that was why my mother-in-law assisted her. When she arrived at our house, she was always cursing me. She always said I was happy because I had a good husband, while she had no good matrimonial home and that she would deal with me. “The knife belonged to her; I stabbed her in self defence. Her husband was buying her all sorts of things while she was in the hospital. When she died, her husband came to dump her corpse in our house and fled.” The deceased’s husband, Sunday Olowookere, a factory worker, told our correspondent he had reconciled with his wife when the incident happened. He said Opeyemi had problem with his wife after the latter stopped keeping money with her. He said: “My wife and I had a misunderstanding over her attitude. She became annoyed and left for the house of a co-trader. A SARS officer intervened and I was asked to sign an undertaking that I would never lay hands on her again, which I did. “We both made statements at a police station and I thought it was over, but she said she was not ready to follow me home; she said she would join me later. “My wife could be abusive, but she would never fight anyone. The woman that stabbed her is a cult member. She started having issues with my wife after my wife stopped giving her money for safekeeping. “I was at work late at night when I was called that my wife had been stabbed. It was the following day that I got there. She was taken to a local medical centre where her injuries festered and her neck became swollen. We were asked to conduct an X-ray for her. I was taking her to a general hospital when she gave up the ghost.” Opeyemi was arraigned before an Ebute-Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court on one count of murder. The police prosecutor, Inspector Adedayo Oladele, who stood in for the resident prosecutor, Cousin Adams, said the offence was punishable under Section 223 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, Nigeria, 2015. The defendant’s plea was not taken. Oladele asked the court to remand the suspect in prison pending legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions. The defence counsel, Fatula, asked that the case file be duplicated for legal advice. “Ordinarily, we would have wanted to object to the remand application. But in the interest of justice, we ask that the file be sent to DPP and we could even have a lesser offence of manslaughter,” he added. The Chief Magistrate, O.O. Olatunji, remanded Opeyemi and adjourned the case till October 3, 2018. https://lailasnews.com/hairdresser-stabs-neighbour-to-death-for-calling-her-shaku-shaku/
