A former OAU lecturer Prof Akindele sentenced to two years in prison after pleading guilty to sexual harassment charge against him

Prof. Richard Iyiola Akindele, was dragged to court for demanding sex to pass one of his students, Monica Osagie, and was on Monday sentenced to two years in prison.

The prosecutor, Mr. Shogunle Adenekan said all parties in the matter have reached a plea bargain and pleaded for a suspended sentence for the accused.

At the previous hearing, Richard Iyiola Akindele was denied bail and was accused of making incantation while making his report with the prosecutor.

Renowned Islamic scholar and founder of Baynakum Family Counseling Centre, Ustaz Abdulfattah Adeyemi, has told women that their husbands are meant to be shared with other women.

He advised Muslim women to share their husbands with other women, saying they have just 25 per cent access to their husbands, while the remaining 75 per cent belongs to other women, Punch reports.

The cleric said this in a paper entitled: “Charity, a path to Jannah,” which he presented in Abuja during the inauguration of Sisters of Jannah, a Muslim women’s charity organisation.

Charging women to be magnanimous in sharing their husbands, Ustaz admonished them “not to deny their husbands polygamy,” but should only pray that the husbands treat all equally in any action taken.

He regretted that some married women were “so over-protective” of their husbands, thereby denying the men their wishes of having more wives, describing such as “ungodly.”

Ustaz also said the over-protective tendencies of some women towards their husbands had made many men to devise “smart means” of engaging in illegal relationships outside their matrimonial homes, advising that the trend must stop.

He urged housewives to “stop being unnecessarily jealous of their husbands’ relationships outside.”

According to him, the faithfulness of men can only be known after their death, saying some men father children outside their marriages, only for their secrets to be uncovered after their death.

He blamed wives for the men’s actions.

Ustaz said,

“Let me tell you that your husband is only yours 25 per cent; your husband is not your property; your only share of him is 25 per cent. The remaining 75 per cent belongs to other women.

“If you want your husband 100 per cent, then you are a thief; you are going beyond the 25 per cent that is yours; the remaining 75 per cent belongs to other ladies.

“Don’t think that because you are wives, other women should not share your husbands.

“Men are not stupid, the men are even becoming smart. It’s until when some die that you know how many children they have.

“I am not saying that is what happens every time; but if you think you are too smart, men are smarter.

“You have never been a man before in your life, you can’t imagine what goes through in the minds of men. Let us fear Allah, as much as possible.

“If Allah makes it easy for you, if they ask you to shift, please shift a little so that somebody else can also sit down.

“And you that is asking somebody else to shift, you have to fear Allah; you that they want to allow to come in, fear Allah. Don’t go there and scatter their lives for them. Don’t go there and constitute problem for them.

“The man may be doing it for the sake of Allah, don’t let him regret it.”

Ustaz said women were the reasons most polygamous homes fail, saying they should have a change of heart.

“Whenever you see polygamy that is not successful, it is because of a woman.

“Na woman dey do woman. The one that is inside the house and the one that is coming into the house and both women.

“It is women that are the enemies of women. If the man is trying to be just, it is the other woman that will go and enter him and turn his head the other way. You will be going North and he will be going South.

“It is two women that are both diabolical because of a man. We men are the Angels that Allah sends to help women.”

Speaking on the topic: “Islam and Feminism”, founder and chancellor of Islamic Online University, Dr. Bilal Philips, challenged Muslim women to seek knowledge so as to better their understanding of things.

He said he was speaking on the topic to clarify the distinction between western feminism and feminism within the context of Islam.

“These distinctions need to be made in order for Muslim women to understand where they should focus and stay within the modern path, so as not to go to the extreme and break the laws of Sharia.

“I advise Muslim women to seek knowledge, gain knowledge and apply the knowledge in their lives — knowledge that will benefit them in both this life and the next.”

Two female robbers in Anambra State have been arrested by the Police after they engaged them in a gun battle in a hotel in Ogidi, Idemili North Local Government Area of the state.

According to Southern City News, the robbers locked out the police and engaged them in a gun duel for about half an hour.

The suspects were said to be operating in the hotel when the police arrived at the scene following a tip-off.

A source in the hotel said,

“On sighting the police, the robbers locked the entrance of the hotel and engaged the police in a fierce gun duel, which lasted for more than 30 minutes.

“One of the suspects later sustained gunshot injury on the buttocks, while attempting to disarm a policeman. The lady is currently receiving treatment in a hospital.”

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Haruna Mohammed, who confirmed the story, said the suspects were arrested while their accomplices escaped.

Mohammed said one fabricated pistol, three live cartridges, one axe, two empty shells, some quantities of dry leaves suspected to be Indian hemp and Tramadol were recovered from them.

He said,

“At about 4pm on Saturday, we received an intelligence report at the Ogidi Police Division that some suspected armed robbers/cultists were cited at the Paradise Hotel, Ogidi, brandishing dangerous weapons.

“Following the report, police detectives attached to the Ogidi Division rushed to the scene and cordoned off the area.

“The gang, on sighting the police, locked the entrance to the hotel and engaged the police in a fierce gun duel, which lasted for more than 30 minutes. The police responded, but with high restraint in order to avert innocent civilian casualties.

“As a result, one of the suspects, Ugochukwu Okafor, sustained gunshot injuries on the buttocks, while trying to disarm a police officer.”

Mohammed said the injured suspect was taken to the hospital for treatment, adding,

“The case is under investigation after which the suspects will be charged to court.”

A 28 year old boy identified as Jeffrey Otite has run mad while trying to withdraw cash from ATM in Delta.

According to vanguard, the boy had gone to make the withdrawal from the Automated Teller Machine along Okpe Road in Sapele, Delta State and all of a sudden he started behaving abnormally.

The incident which happened along Okpe road by Akintola witnessed a massive crowd as early as 6.30am. A source who at the scene said Jeffrey came on a motorcycle that morning ” he walked into the ATM box and the next thing we saw was Jeffrey shouting on top of his voice.

He starting pulling his clothes and talking gibberish, that was what attracted passerby to the scene” the man who craved anonymity said.

However a young man who simply called himself Onyokpe said Jeffrey had been sick.

"He has this high fever I know his parents has been treating, so I think this is what is worrying him” he said.

The crowd probably enjoying the show was said to have broken into scream of “Ghana Burger!” Ghana Burger!” another name for Yahoo boys, while clapping along the chanting. Jeffrey was later tied up by good Samaritans before his relatives took him away in a blue Toyota Camry.

The Lagos State Police Command has warned the residents of the state to desist from having being intimate in public places as sex in a car is a criminal offence punishable with 2 years imprisonment.

If you recollect, a tweet credited to the head of the Police Complaint Rapid Response Unit, Abayomi Shogunle, stated that having sex in a car is not criminal.

The Command spokesperson, Chike Oti, said it was indecent to have sex in a car in public place, and that it’s not only in Lagos, but also in the entire country.

He said that under Lagos laws, couples are liable to between two- to three-year imprisonment upon conviction.

Shogunle in a tweet, had said:

“Sex in a car in a public place is not a crime in Nigeria provided;
1. Location is not a place of worship
2. Parties are 18yrs+
3. The act is consensual (agreed to by parties)
4. Parties are of opposite sex
If threatened with arrest over above, pls contact @POLICENG_PCRRU.”

But Oti said the state Commissioner of Police, Edgal Imohimi, had received legal advice on the matter.

He said:

“The CP Lagos has been advised by the Director of Public Prosecution of the state Ministry of Justice and the Legal Department of the State Police Command, Panti, Yaba, with relevant sections of the law as follows: Section 134 (a) Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015 prohibits any indecent act in any public place without lawful excuse.

“The law holds that such person is liable on conviction to two years’ imprisonment.

“Section 136 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 provides that any person who commits any act of gross indecency with another person in public commits an offence and liable on conviction to three years’ imprisonment.

“It must be noted that Section 134 which deals with offences against morality, particularly section 134 (a), has it that indecent act in a public place makes both parties engaging in the act liable to imprisonment for two years.

“In the same vein, Section 231 of the Criminal Code Act, which is a Federal law and applicable in states other than the northern states where Penal Code is applicable, also make Indecent Acts punishable.

“Going forward, the authorities of the Lagos State Police Command hereby declare that the assertion that sex in a car in a public place is not a crime in Nigeria is misplaced, as the provisions of the Criminal Law of Lagos State prohibit such acts in public, even if it is done with consent of the other party.

“To this end, the Commissioner of Police, CP Edgal Imohimi, wants Lagosians to be guided by relevant sections of the law against such acts.”

The Gambian actress, Princess Shyngle suicide attempt this morning, has landed her in a Lagos hospital, Instablog9ja reports.

It was gathered that the actress took an overdose of a medication and drank bleach. Fortunately, she was rescued by a neighbor, who rushed her to Vedic Life care Hospital in Lekki.

According to reports, Shyngle is currently in the emergency room because she was brought in in a critical condition.

The doctors have been able to stabilize her for now, but her blood pressure keeps going up. The motivation behind her action is unknown for now.

Six months after his conviction by a Federal Capital Territory High Court, The Nigerian Senate still pays Senator Joshua Dariye allowances to the tune of N85.5million.

In a report by The Punch, Dariye is still receiving the N750, 000 salary and N13.5m monthly running cost from the National Assembly.

Investigations by The PUNCH revealed that Dariye, who represents Plateau-Central Senatorial District, was still receiving the allowances because his seat had yet to be declared vacant by the leadership of the National Assembly.

Dariye, who was governor of Plateau State from 1999 to 2007, was prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and convicted by Justice Adebukola Banjoko of an FCT High Court for embezzling N1.162bn.

He was subsequently sentenced to 14 years in prison, but his sentence was reduced to 10 years by the Court of Appeal which upheld his conviction last month.

The ex-governor had even made a non-refundable payment of N8m for the All Progressives Congress’ Senate forms but was screened out by the party in September.

An aide to Dariye, Mr Christopher John, said the convict and his aides were still receiving their full allowances.

He said Dariye had appealed his conviction at the Supreme Court and it would be unfair for his seat to be declared vacant when he had not yet exploited all legal channels.

John said:

“He has already appealed the case; so he is still a senator pending the decision of the Supreme Court.

“It is right for us to still be receiving salaries because his case has not ended. There are many other senators having issues with the courts like Senator Attah Idoko from Kogi State. Judgment was given in favour of AVM Isaac Alfa but since Idoko has appealed the case, he is still serving and attending sittings as a senator pending the outcome of the case.

“Aides should still be receiving salary because Dariye is still a senator. And he is still receiving his allowances and will continue to do so until the case is closed.”

The Special Adviser to the Senate President on Media, Yusuph Olaniyonu, said he could not confirm if Dariye was still receiving allowances or not.

Olaniyonu, however, said the former governor’s seat could not be declared vacant until the leadership of the Senate received official communication from the Office of the Attorney General of the Federation.

When asked if the Senate was not aware of the highly publicised conviction of Dariye, Olaniyonu said the legislative arm of government does not act based on media reports but on official communication.

He said:

“The Senate President has no power to declare any seat vacant except he is presented with a request. We have to receive official communication from those who prosecuted him. We cannot read a report in the newspapers and go ahead to declare his seat vacant.

“Even if a senator dies, his family would inform the leadership of the Senate or senators would go and pay a condolence visit and officially confirm that he is dead and then the Independent National Electoral Commission will be notified that the seat is vacant.

“Those who convicted Senator Dariye never informed us that he had been convicted. In fact, we even read that he bought the APC ticket to contest for re-election. The AGF prosecuted him and he ought to write the Senate so that the seat can be declared vacant and another election conducted.”

But the Director for Information at the National Assembly, Mr Jerry Agada, said there was no court order or directive from the Senate President to stop Dariye’s salary and so it could not be stopped.

Agada said it was possible for Dariye’s salary to be withheld pending the outcome of the case in court but the National Assembly Commission had no such powers to stop it.

He said:

“The procedure of the National Assembly is that a person’s seat must be declared vacant before he is no longer a senator. Based on the latest information we have, they said he had taken the matter to the Supreme Court.

“On our own, we have no power to stop the salary or allowances of any senator whose seat has not been declared vacant. Our intention was that his pay would be put on hold pending the outcome of the case but do we even have such powers?

“He remains a senator in the eyes of the law. It is not a matter of morality now but a matter of law. The power to declare any seat vacant resides in the Senate President or the Speaker.”

The Bishop of Niger Delta West Diocese, Rt Rev. (Dr) Emmanuel Oko-Jaja, has said the act of kissing the bride in the church during their wedding service is unscriptural, unholy and therefore be discouraged, Tribune reports.

Shedding more light on the issue, Oko-Jaja further explained that unwholesome practices that are taking place in churches during matrimonial services promotes immorality and corrupt the mind of especially teenagers that are in church to witness the practice.

Dr Oko-Jaja expressed his displeasure while delivering a sermon during the child presentation and Thanksgiving Service of the baby, Woyengilayefa Godfriend Atasi at St Mark’s Anglican Church, Biogbolo in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.

The Clergyman who premised his sermon on 1 Kings 22:1-28 also warned Christians to be wary of false prophets in sheep clothing who are intensifying their efforts at derailing believers.


He further explained that the act letting the Groom kiss the bride in the full glare of both the young and old persons gathered in the church to witness what is expected to be holy solemnisation of a wedding between a man and woman emanated from the teachings of false prophets.

He, therefore, enjoined all true believers to jealously guard against the antics of fake gospel preachers with their false prophecies of prosperity and protection from death, which they use as a bait to deprive unsuspecting Christians of their salvation.

“The practice where couples are allowed to kiss in the church during wedding service is unscriptural. I wish to direct clergymen and church workers in this Diocese to guard against such unholy conducts.

“According to the scriptures, the church is not supposed to serve as a place meant to promote immorality but encourage people to uphold and practice Christian virtues with a view to winning souls for Christ.”

Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote's nephew Mohammed Dangote has married the daughter of a Malaysian billionaire, Sara.

The wedding held sometimes around last month in the mansion of the bride's father in Malaysia and it has been described as an occasion that marked the union of "the rich and rich".

The event was strictly by invitation and saw friends, family and business partners of both families showing up to support.

Not much is known about Sara but Mohammed is the son of Sani Dangote, a politician and businessman brother of Aliko Dangote.

Sara is however the heiress to her family's wealth. The marriage, which happened late in November, was kept under wraps from the general public until videos made their way onto social media through a family friend.

Nigerian singer Simi apologises to fans after they showed disappointment over poor organization at her Lagos Concert yesterday.

The Live in Lagos concert was held at The Balmoral Convention Center in Lagos and was slated for 06:00pm but according to reports, she wasn’t present, not until about five hours later – this coupled with disorganization at the event, left her audience disappointed.

As she apologized, the singer revealed that the mishap wasn’t intentional as there was an event that took place the previous night and so it was not so possible for her team to organize and set up the venue in so short a time.

Taking to Twitter to tender her apology, the singer wrote,

“I’m sorrry I’m probably more upset than everyone, but I accept responsibility.

There was a show here the night before and it took forever to clear out and set up. I didn’t have time to soundcheck. I apologize.

Some Visa seekers were reportedly spotted at the 2018 Holy Ghost Congress of the Redeemed Christian Church of God praying at the Flag Ground of foreign countries to hasten their travel out of the country, News Agency of Nigeria reports.

NAN also reports that the RCCG camp ground at Shimawa, Ogun State, has a corner in the church premises where flags of foreign countries were conspicuously displayed.

Reports have it that both male and female worshippers were seen holding assorted flags of foreign countries at prayer sessions.

Some of the worshippers were seen praying kneeling down in-between the flags.

In an interview with some of the worshippers, a 35-year-old man who identified himself as Emmanuel Ukor confirmed that he prayed with the flag of the country he intended to visit.

“I have faith and that’s why I am holding American flag pole for prayer. I have been going to the embassy and had been denied several times.

“There is nothing prayer cannot do, I believe God answers prayers,” he said.

Also, a 22-year-old man, Adebola Martins, said that he wished to leave the country to study for his Master’s degree.

“I want to leave this country for the United Kingdom to further my studies and to also stay there to make ends meet. That’s why I am holding its flag,” he said.

A 60-year-old woman, Mrs. Faith Grace, said she held the flags to pray for her children who are based abroad so they can continue to live well.

“I am using the flags as prayer points of contact for all my children.’’

One of the pastors, who pleaded anonymity, said things work with people’s faith.

“Although the flags displayed represent the countries where the church has it parishes, faith works with mind.

“They are asking God for what they want and so shall it be,” he said.

Background

I was born and raised in Benue State, which is also my state of origin. I studied Integrated Science at the Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi, Benue State. I am the first daughter and the second child. My given name is Imelda Ada Okwori.

Music

I started singing from a very tender age because my mother was into music and she had her own group. It was more like growing up to follow her footsteps. My first song was titled, My Love For You, and I featured the late OJB Jezreel. It was actually one of the songs that brought me fame. Then, I released Bread and Butter. I also did a song with Small Doctor. I have released a couple of songs but the latest one is Money Good.

Parents’ reaction

They supported me because it was not strange to them. However, people advised my mother to stop me from doing music because they felt I wouldn’t get married if I became a musician.

Challenges

Challenges are numerous. As a woman, you get to meet people that would only offer to help you based on certain conditions. Some people would want to date or marry you before they can help you. You have to be financially capable because the music industry is not fair to women. To promote music in Nigeria, you need a considerable amount of money. As a woman, you have to go the extra mile to do certain things because it is an industry dominated by men.

When I got to Lagos newly, I got entangled with a man who said he would help me only if I would be intimate with him. He advised me to break up any previous relationship I had despite the fact that I had money to pay for my song. I walked out on him but he called me back and now we are friends. I also lost a contract because I refused to meet with the record company owner at a hotel.

I don’t know why some people like to interpret things to suit their purpose. D’banj is someone I have always admired. Aside music, he is business-minded and hard-working. Jaywon

I never dated Jaywon; we have just worked together. During the shoot for one of our music videos, some people took suggestive pictures of us together and this brought a lot of misunderstanding between Jaywon and I. I didn’t like the way he handled the issue because he didn’t ask me anything; rather, he and his manager wrote defamatory press statements about me.

Governor Suswan

I have tried not to talk about the rumour of me dating former Benue State Governor Gabriel Suswan. During his tenure, he supported a lot of artistes in the state, unlike what obtains now. I am fortunate to be part of those he sponsored.

He treats me like his daughter, yet we are not even close. He and (some members of) his cabinet attended an event I organised in my state. He enjoyed himself so much that he challenged every member of his cabinet to support me.

So, it became more like a fundraising dinner. That was what generated the rumour that I was dating him because some people felt it wasn’t possible for him to do that for me if we were not dating. I have grown a thick skin to comments about me dating anybody because I am a single lady.

Current projects

I am working on an album. I have recorded a lot of songs but it will take some time for me to choose the right ones to put out. Hopefully by next year, I will release my album. I also have a Non-Governmental Organisation that empowers women and persons living with disabilities.

Role models

I admire a lot of female artistes in Nigeria, especially Tiwa Savage, Yemi Alade, Seyi Shay, Omawumi and Simi. When it comes to male artistes, Davido, Tekno, Flavour and Wizkid are people I look up to. When I want to do an inspirational song, I will like to work with 2baba because I think we blend in that area. Internationally, I look up to Rihanna, Beyoncé, Jlo and Nicki Minaj.

Men

I don’t like slim men because it makes me feel like they will be stingy. I don’t like stingy people because I am a giver. I don’t like men that attach conditions before they do anything for you. I prefer a man who has listening ears to a handsome man.

Relaxation

When I am not working, I go to the beach and the cinema in company with friends and family. But I prefer to stay indoors.

Fashion

My fashion sense is top notch. I love going over the top sometimes and I love combining colours with a touch of African vibe. I love to dress sexily and classy. I take risks when it comes to fashion.

Controversial Catholic priest, Reverend Father Mbaka escapes assassination attempt on his life in Enugu yesterday, a representative of the Church reports.

Representatives of the ministry claimed in a statement that Mbaka was shot at last Thursday night on Emene Road in Enugu by some unknown people but he escaped unhurt.

But the police said they were unaware of any such attack on Mbaka at press time.

The Adoration Ministry representatives said:

“It is with rude shock and utter surprise that we received the report of the attempted assassination plot of the Spiritual Director of Adoration Ministry Enugu Nigeria last made Thursday evening by some unknown gunmen who fired gun shots at him on his way along Emene road Enugu.

“This incident has added to several other assassination plots targeted at Fr Mbaka since after the first plot was carried out on him on his way from the Bishop’s house where he had gone to answer an impromptu call by his Bishop during the regime of Governor Chimaroke Nnamani of Enugu State.

“This assassination plot against Fr Mbaka is coming barely few days after the 2018 Harvest and Bazaar of the Ministry where Fr Mbaka had come under massive media attack for asking Peter Obi, the PDP Vice Presidential Candidate for the 2019 general election who attended the Bazaar programme, to make public his support or donation for the Church Project of the Ministry.

“Many Supporters of Peter Obi and even clergies have misconstrued this as embarrassing to Peter Obi and to the Catholic Church and this has consequently given rise to the statement issued by the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) that same Thursday on the issue.

“The issue had lingered in spite of the apology which Fr Mbaka, in his characteristic humility ,had tendered at the altar to Peter Obi and anyone who may have been in any way form and kind been offended at the Bazaar event.

“We have refrained from making any official statement on the ongoing media attack against Fr Mbaka over the Baazar incident because he had held us from joining issues with the Church Clergies and hierarchies on the subject, but we cannot continue to keep silent especially now that the issue is taking the dimension of plot to exterminate his life.

“We recall that the last time Fr Mbaka raised alarm over threat to exterminate him was in early 2015 when he faced a similar persecution by some church hierarchy and the PDP Government following his 31st December prophecy of the imminent defeat of former President Goodluck Jonathan led PDP Government by President Mohammadu Buhari at the 2015 General Election.

“Today, with the 2019 general election around the corner, it appears that history is repeating itself. The contemporaneousness of the recent attack of Fr Mbaka by gunmen with the Peter Obi and the CBCN saga leaves us to a safe conclusion that the attack on Fr Mbaka may have either been politically engineered or ecumenically endorsed, and thus we will not hesitate to call on the security agencies in this country to beam their searchlights and leave no stone unturned in getting to the root of this issue.

“Fr Mbaka’s life means so much to us and many poor and voiceless Nigerians for whom he lives and so we cannot be silent on the face of any threat to his life real or perceived.

The Police however said last night that no report of any such attack had been brought to their notice at press time.

Spokesman for the State Police Command, Ebere Amaraizu, told our correspondent the command was unaware of the alleged assassination attempt.

Actress Yetunde Akilapa arrested for robbery again in just less than five months after being locked up for serial stealing.

Yetunde was nabbed, today, at Ajao estate, off Oluwalogbon, Ketu, Lagos State, while trying to gain access into a house, with her set of master keys.

She was subsequently dragged to a police station in the area, to prevent jungle justice.

Back in July, 2018, the 32-year-old actress was dragged before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court and charged with burglary and stealing valuables worth N7 million. .
Police Prosecutor Benson Emuerhi had told the court that the accused committed the offences on June 27 at Mutairu Street, Shangisha, Ketu, at 2.10 p.m. .

According to him, the accused was apprehended while trying to enter the apartment of the complainant, Adeboye Lamidi.

The prosecutor also alleged that the accused, on Nov. 16, 2015 at 3.00 p.m. broke into the residence of one Oyinlola Tuga by unlocking the door with a master key. .

Tuga, who lives at Ayodele Okeowo St., Gbagada Soluyi in Lagos, reported that the accused stole jewellery, bags and other valuables worth N7 million.

Yetunde Akilapa arrested for robbery by the police in Alade, Somolu, Lagos in February 2013. She was sent to the Kirikiri Prison and after a few months, she regained her freedom in November 2013. .

In Jan. 12, 2014, she was again caught trying to steal with a bunch of master keys hidden in her brassiere at a house in Magodo Phase 2.

Young Shall Grow motors boss, Obianuju Vincent, was shot by notorious kidnapper, Evans, in an attempt to kidnap him in 2013, Police witness says.

The police officer attached to the Inspector-General of Police Intelligence Response Team, Idowu Haruna narrated the incident to a Special Offences Court on Wednesday.

Haruna told the court that Evans and his gang members shot Vincent and killed two of his escorts, Punch Metro reports.

Evans is standing trial alongside his co-defendants – Joseph Ikenna Emeka, 29, Chiemeka Arinze, 39, Udeme Frank Upong , 43 – on seven counts of murder, attempted murder, conspiracy to kidnap and selling of firearms.

Haruna while being led in evidence by the state counsel, Adebayo Haroun, said the incident occurred on August 27, 2013 at Third Avenue, Festac Town.

He said:

“I recognise the defendants as those who attempted to kidnap the chairman of Young Shall Grow motors, Chief Obianuju Vincent, sometime in 2013.

“The YSG chairman was returning from a game house along Festac Town when his convoy was attacked by heavily armed men led by Evans.

“During the attack, the YSG chairman was shot in the right arm while his driver, one Mr Peter Nweke, was shot dead. One of his escorts, Chijoke Ngozi (female), was also shot dead.

“During a gun duel between the chairman’s police escorts and the gang, three of the gang members were shot dead by Inspector Solomon Igwe, while the rest fled the scene.

“Two rifles belonging to the gang members were later recovered by the Festac Police Division, where the case was reported and the corpses were later removed by the police.

“Immediately the matter was assigned to my team, we arrested the 1st defendant (Evans), who narrated the entire operation to us. Evans told us that he was the leader and the one who led the gang to the operation. Evans mentioned the 3rd defendant (Arinze) as the informant of the operation.

“He told us that Arinze had monitored the movement of the YSG chairman for four days in order to give him detailed information about his routine.

“Evans also named the 2nd defendant (Emeka) as his syndicate in all criminal activities while the 4th defendant ( Upong) supplied him with the weapons and firearms.”

“When the victim came to the station, Evans knelt before him and apologized for killing his two escorts. He told him that he was sorry for their deaths and that it was a mistake.

“Evans told the victim that he had no intention of killing anyone during the operation but only wanted to kidnap him and later demand for ransom.

“Evans begged that he was misinformed about the victim’s police escorts who were also armed.”

The presiding judge, Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo, adjourned the matter till January 6, 2019, for the continuation of trial.

A man who was abused as little boy has opened up on how his father made him have sex with stepmother in order to cure him of being gay.

Daniel Dowling's father made him watch porn and participate in threesomes in his own home in Bracknell, Berkshire, England, when he was just 11 years old. The sexual torment went on for 3 years.

Daniel has now waived his anonymity, allowing his father and stepmother to be named for the first time.

Now 36, Daniel spoke to The Mirror and disclosed that he is "still haunted" by his stepmother’s perfume decades after the sexual abuse.

During his father Richard Dowling and stepmother Annette Breakspear’s trials, Dowling, now 62, said he was "trying to steer him [Daniel] in the right direction and not to go to the way of being gay."

It was revealed that Richard Dowling forced his son Daniel to give his stepmom "goodnight kisses" while she was chained to the bed naked.

On one occasion, he punched Daniel after he refused to perform a sex act on his stepmother.

Daniel said of his stepmom:

She’d instruct me on what to do. Sometimes when Dad wasn’t there she’d ask me into her room for handling and intercourse.

The abuse ended when the couple broke up in 1996. However, Daniel was later targeted by another paedophile aged 16.

He opened up to police after images were found of him in the paedophile’s home. But his dad and stepmom were interviewed and no arrests were made.

Years passed and Daniel became depressed and suicidal.

In 2015, he took action himself after an attempt to take his own life. He managed to record his father admitting the abuse, which the dad later blamed on "undiagnosed depression".

Richard Dowling was jailed for five years and Breakspear for eight for the abuse.

A South African girl caught while planning to drug and rob Nigerian men that took her to their house in South Africa, has had her video shared on the internet.

In the video uploaded on Instagram by another Nigerian, the lady was being interrogated and she confessed to plan to lace their drinks with a substance after which she planned to rob them of their valuables.
