TravelRe: Is Certified Copy Entry Of Pursuant Of Birth Equals British Citizen by dancewith: 7:15am On Mar 10, 2010
@ snowwy,

I am not talking from hearsay. we did the application together. he was taken to the US by his parents at age 2 by his American parents. he only submitted the following, this was in 2008 October

1. The Cerified copy of his UK birth certificate. He was born in 1973
2. His US passport
3. The application form and fees

check http://ukinusa.fco.gov.uk/en/help-for-british-nationals/passports/passport-documents

I am not saying what you experienced is wrong. They are peculiar to Nigeria. But I must say there is no way they can deny your passport as long as you can prove your identity. Even if those documents they are listing is unavailable, if you can get hold of your Nigerian passport and your birth cert showing your birth in the UK prior to 1983, you are good to go. Get a lawyer to make the filling and representation for you. Do not forget there is a part in the applciation form where a professional will certify as to your identity and that he knows you. You will still get approved regardless unless they can prove it was not you in the birth cert. As long as you were born there before 1983, you were born British and the burden of proof is on them to prove to the contrary not you
TravelRe: Is Certified Copy Entry Of Pursuant Of Birth Equals British Citizen by dancewith: 6:51pm On Mar 09, 2010
@snowwy,

They only required all that because you are in Nigeria and they probably doubted if you are the person named on the birth cert. My friend in the US who was taken there at an early age got his by simplying using the certified copy of his BC to apply for a passport. No other document was required. He got called for an interview and thats all. He now has a British and an American passport

As long as you were born before 1983, you only need to prove your identity to get your passport. so your birth cert plus a completed application form will do. they can call for an interview but thats all there is to it
TravelRe: Pregnant Traveller To The U.s by dancewith: 6:22pm On Mar 09, 2010
I have a sister who came over last week @ 34 weeks pregnant. And she was so huge that you must know. The US immigration stopped her, checked her visa and asked her through. You know why, she has a B1/B2 visa. B2 includes trips to the US for medicals. As long as you can show proof of funds that you can afford your medicals you wont be turned back

Another pregnant lady on the same Delta flight was refused entry as her visa read only B1. You need to check your visa now and be sure it states B1/B2. The B2 part is the most important but most people actually do not know and assumes any US visa can get them past immigration for any purpose. Unlike the UK where there is a specific visa for medicals, US medical visa is covered under B2 and if you have it, even if they can measure your pregnancy they wont be sending you back as long as you have about $10,000 or over which is about what my sister showed them

Good luck
TravelRe: Uk, Usa Visa Issues. Pls Advice Me. by dancewith: 6:56am On Feb 25, 2010
If you do not now have your verifiable student identity card of the US school showing you are now schooling in the US; this may include a US student visa on your passport, then the UK border agency staff may well refuse you entry

Better to apply for a visit visa first before travelling. But if you have your US student visa on your passport then they won't bother you at the UK point of entry
TravelRe: I"m In Need Of A Canadian Immigrant Visa. Please Help! by dancewith: 6:01pm On Feb 24, 2010
The agency is not fake. They have assisted a couple i know immigrate to Saskatn. However its pretty much a simple process and no need paying for something you can do on your own. If you are within the qualifying occupation list, then simple start the process on your own. You may be lucky

This is a disaster. with no unemployment benefit system, things must really be going from bad to worse for these fellows. With Sanusi secured in the comfort of his wealth, he can go ahead and initiate more job prunning policy all in the name of sanitaization. I say it now and clear, 5 yrs from now, the banks would still be worse off than they were before he came on board meaning these unfortunate folks and their families would have suffered for nothing!!! God will judge in due time

TravelRe: Why Don't Africans Spend Their Holidays More In Africa by dancewith: 7:42pm On Feb 19, 2010
@poster

I have said it over and over, until we learn from the EU and make the AU visa free, I won't bother myself visiting any African Country. I would be the last man to pay for a visa to any African Country. I could, say, pay for a UK visa, US visa, Chinese visa etc but to pay for a an Ethopian visa, plllssss! Asides that, my friends say Tanzania is a NO NO for Nigerian visitors. What about Kenya and Egypt?? Fact is we are too primitive in how we treat fellow Africans and for someone that values courtesy, I will only go where I would be respected. Period!

If you feel the British or the Americans treat Africans poorly, I can only say this: your treatment was a product of your comportment!!!

TravelRe: Citizenship by dancewith: 7:42pm On Feb 11, 2010
@POSTER

if you want citizenship for your unborn child and you do not currently have visa to the United states or Canada, you can try having your baby at Barbados. It is a very beautiful country. They give citizenship at Birth and their passport is as useful as an EU passport. They do not need visiting visa to any EU country plus canada and most of the American Countries with the exception of the US. However Visas to the US for their nationals is almost a certainty. They apply online and gets it by post. Interviews are not required for them

The most important fact for you is that you do not need visa to visit Barbados as a Nigerian passport holder. Most importantly if you are carrying up to $15,000 with you on arrival at Bridgetown Airport they will readily admit you to give birth. You may not believe this but the country's main ethic group is said to be Afro Bajan (a mix race of Igbos, Yoruba & Akan tribes)

Their GDP for last yr was put at $18,000 per citizen and with a population of only 280,000 people, you can see why the United states is on record not to have ever refused a Barbadian citizen visa since their independence from the UK in Nov 30, 1966

In case you do not know, ALL of Tuface illegitimate children were born there and are barbadians. So if you got the money, British Airways goes to Bridgetown from London Heathrow. You do not need Uk transit visa is you are not leaving the airport.

Good luck to you and your unborn baby
TravelRe: Having A Baby In Uk Now by dancewith: 7:15pm On Feb 11, 2010
The current rule is this: if you are born in the UK before 1983 then you are automatically british. If however you were born after 1983, and one of your parents is British or someone with Indefinite leave to remain or an Irish citizen or an EEC citizen then u are also British. If however none of your parent is in that category and you were born in the UK after 1983, you have a LIFETIME entiltlement to claim British Citizenship if you spend the first 10 yrs of your life in the UK. If however you leave the UK for an aggregate of more than 180 days within your first 10 yrs, then you have lost your entitlement unless one of your parents become an ILR holder at any point in your life which automatically activates your citizenship once again

Here in the United States and infact in all North/South/Central American countries and the carribeans, the rule of Jus Soli (meaning son of the soil) applies and you derive your citizenship automatically at the country of your birth. This used to be the case in Europe until the UK modified the system in 1983 and was followed by spain, Germany, France and now all EU countries to require, in addition to being born there, that one of your parent must be a citizen or a permanent resident for the child to qualify

However countries like France has a much easier system as all births to all legal residents almost always results to citizenship. The difference to the UK is that births to various legal residents does not qualify for citizenship. You must be born to an ILR holder to qualify or you must wait until one of your parent gets an ILR to be entiltled or reach your 10th birthday whichever one comes first

Hope this helps

We will see the danger very soon. Most people talk ignorantly. If we want growth, then this won't stand. This is what you can refer to as growth limiting policy. You will see how many investors will go into banking after this
BusinessRe: Sanusi Ousts Ovia, Elumelu, Akinfemiwa by dancewith: 7:13am On Jan 21, 2010
This is a shameful and backward policy. Zenith, Skye & UBA are some of the pride of Nigerain Banking. The built a dynasty from nothing. When Crystal bank floundered, it was Elumelu who ressurrected it through Standard Trust which became the envy of all. the man at Skyke is one of the best brains around Nigeria today. Ovia's zenith is perharps the zenith of Nigeria banking. We can only wish Nigeria is managed as half as Ovia runs Zenith

So we boot them out. The country is the looser in the end
TravelRe: United States : The World's Most Unfriendly Country by dancewith: 6:36am On Jan 21, 2010
Its dangerous to talk about petrol bombing a country just because they refuse people visa. That's stupidity and terrorism. you had better watch your emotions before you wreck yourself. They ve got every right to issue or reject any applicant whether or not the applicant is qualified. Even some nationals of the visa free countries are deported at the point of entry/borders. I have seen this happen. Its their right. do you really think Nigeria issues visas to all applicants trying to visit Nigeria? They dont. Its the same with all countries. Just get on with it if u fail with your visa application. its not the end of the world
TravelRe: Canada, What's The Story? by dancewith: 7:32am On Jan 20, 2010
if you have your baby in canada, you wont have any stay. the child would however have canadian citizenship under the principle of 'son of the soil' practiced by almost all south, north, central Americans and the carribeans nations

But you as the parent get nothing

Hope this helps
TravelRe: Application For Right Of Abode On Nigerian Passport by dancewith: 7:49am On Jan 18, 2010
As a follow up to my post above, you must note that her birth certificate must include your name as one of the parent. The birtish nationality law demands a proof of parentage for a parent passing on citizenship to a minor child. However the law allows the simple statement of your name on the birth cert as enough proof. if however your name is not mentioned on the birth certificate as her parent, a paternity test will be accepted as conclusie proof. I know that as a Nigerian they are likely to demand a paternity test anyway as our birth records are easily falsified so make sure she is truely your daughter before applying

Since you said you became citizen at birth, then she is good to apply for her passport too
TravelRe: Application For Right Of Abode On Nigerian Passport by dancewith: 7:37am On Jan 18, 2010
British nationality law is quite straight forward. If you were British when you had her, she is born British and does not need any visa (settlement or otherwise). Infact she does not even need a Right of Abode as she is deemed British at the time of her birth. The fact she has not applied and been given a passport does not matter in any way. She is a British citizen by decent. Its just like the numerous Nigerians that go the the US to have their babies. Those children become US citizens and Nigerians whether or not they apply for Nigerian passports. This is only applicable if you were already british at the time of her birth

What to do. get her birth certificate and your passport, download the relevant forms and simply apply to the Identity office for her british passport. make sure you were british already prior to her birth. if however she was born before you became british, she is not deemed to be born british and she must then claim british citizenship (which she has now qualified for) by naturalisation. though in her case it is a given (she cannot be refused) as one of her parent is a citizen and she is still a minor. This will then start with your applying for a settlement visa first before she applys for naturalisation after settling in the UK for a specified period (which i dont know)

Best of luck
TravelRe: Cameron: '70 Million Is Too Many. I'll Cut Immigration By 75 Per Cent' (UK) by dancewith: 6:06pm On Jan 14, 2010
The real problem with UK population and immigration is the EU not from those outside the EU. Britain has one of the toughest visa standard in the world and 98% of those issued work visa indeed derserve it

The total population permitted entry under the work permit visa is so small as to seriously concern anyone but the EU is different. The move to the UK in droves. They are the problem and as always those from outside the EU takes the blame. If they like let them cut immigration by 99%, the problem will be the same. Infact what they have now is a major brain drain on Africa as only our best gets to be admitted there

Best of luck to Mr Cameron

TravelRe: Enhanced Screening Techniques Instituted For Us-bound Passengers From Nigeria by dancewith: 7:30am On Jan 05, 2010
I have said it before and will say it again. This is purely discriminatory and racial profiling. The US inclusion of Nigeria is a further proof of that they think they can do anything they so desire to Nigerians and get away with it. Richard Colvin Reid di the exact same thing; several british terrorist have bombed various places home & abroad but they failed to include Britain in the list. How about Kenya that have variously bombed the US embassyhuh

Nigeria must unite against discrimination. Take a bold step like North Korea did. Stop all oil exports to the US and other countries that follows this procedure on Nigerians. Introduce a a visa ban on all US nationals. Those with visas already should be subjected to thorough screening at our borders. cut off all economic ties with them and turn to china. Do this and you won't believe the result. They need us more than we need them. Trust me on this: Remeber, most of Nigerians travels to the US nets them an average of $10b on shopping alone; $15b on airline charges & $25b on visa fees annually. What has our associations with them brought us. Abeg lets take them on!!!! if Libya can stare down Switzerland, surely we can!!!!!
TravelRe: Nigeria As Country Of Interest On Terrorism by dancewith: 6:01pm On Jan 04, 2010
This is plain crazy. why would they single out Nigerians for this stupid law. How about the numerous British terrorists that have tried in various ways to bomb one place or anotherhuh? why is UK not on that damn list. why Nigeria that is futuring for the first time is singled out. What to do: Stop all oil exports to the US. slam a visa ban on all their nationals. search all them Americans like you will search Osama Bin Laden when attempting to cross our borders. Two can play that game. you may not believe this but they will cow in first. North Korea did it and they are not on that list anymore
