Christianity EtcRe: Why Do People Sleep In Church by darqly(m): 12:52am On Sep 05, 2011
Firstly, i think not ALL men of God are called to preach. We all have various gifts- the man may be a good researcher but has poor delivery. He can draw up the sermon, get the background material but he doesn't have to TEACH it.
Secondly, if you go to church with no expectations, you will not be disappointed- you will leave as you came, empty. Even if i don't sleep in church, sometimes I come away with precious little lessons. Try to empty yourself of SELF in God's presence; sometimes your lesson for the day comes not from the sermon, but the choir or a testimony.
CultureRe: Do We Actually Need English Names by darqly(m): 12:23am On Sep 05, 2011
Tis neither here nor there. Having an african name doesn't increase one jot of africaness in you- Ask all the afroamericans with silly africanized names like moesha, ayeesha and kaeesha. Likewise an english or bible name doesn't erode where you're from in any way.
PoliticsRe: Tension Is Still High In Jos Three Days After by darqly(m): 9:11pm On Sep 01, 2011
I woke to a hate-filled, inciting and violent sermon blaring from the speakers of a local mosque on saturday last week. It was obviously a tape recording and if I heard it, thousands of other residents did too. We cannot keep telling ourselves we have been wronged and must exact revenge, which was the gist of the sermon. Jos that i grew up in has morphed into a mini-somalia; with local militias holding sway in different 'unguwar'. Last nite, the tension was so palpable you could lean on it. Then some daft person lets off one round from the market axis, muslim area. The response from right outside my gate was nerve wracking- The vigilantes unleashed burst after burst of machine gun fire that had even the soldiers alarmed. Both sides are armed and are itching to test their new toys. Everyone in the town has taken sides, and none is willing to back down. While the state govt, PDP and FG play chess with our lives in Jos, they forget that this strife CAN and WILL ultimately consume Nigeria. Killings are a way of life now and no one is ever brought to book. I abhor the thought of taking a human life but some do it like a hobby. There is much evil going on and God will hold all of us accountable.
CultureRe: Origin Of The Name Aboki? by darqly(m): 12:23pm On Aug 30, 2011
Aboki is NOT a derogatory term in any way, regardless of what the majority of respondents here think.
It simply means friend and is used amongst peers.
I guess most non-hausa assume using it at any given oppurtunity will rile the other party; generally, it doesnt't.
BusinessRe: Safety Of My Money In Afribank And Others by darqly(m): 6:39am On Aug 09, 2011
Please your money is safe in the banks recently taken over. I see some panic being spread by ignorant posters. Make no mistake, a run on ANY bank will bring it to it's knees- Whether sound or unsound. The time to run passed ages ago, and nothing happened even.
PoliticsRe: Howard University Faults Alison- Madueke’s Year Of Graduation by darqly(m): 9:18am On Aug 08, 2011
The responses here are an alarming representation of the present Nigeria. So its ok to doctor a CV, falsify your age and fit in years of experience just so you can get a job? And someone actually said it's commonplace so it's not wrong ANYMORE. People have been killing each other for centuries now- Murder is still a CRIME, not legal. People born in the 80s and 90s that present age declarations actually amuse me. Our country is in dire straits sha.
PoliticsRe: 2 Year Rents Banned In Lagos, Landlords To Be Jailed For 3 Years. by darqly(m): 8:27am On Aug 06, 2011
The only people that will frown @ this law are the landlords. But why should I assist in BUILDING your house by paying years in advance? It doesn't profit me in ANY way, ties down funds that I can use to develop my own property. In other countries, rent is reckoned on a WEEKLY basis in most instances. Now for the evil called Abuja to follow suit.
EducationRe: Covenant University: Accounting Student Graduates With 4.99 GPA by darqly(m): 11:27am On Jul 27, 2011
Congratulate the lad and stop with all the comparisons to all these FED universities that have zero facilities, compromised testing methods and pompous lecturers whose only purpose is to shoot down highflying students.
Look at the grammar of the so called Fed uni graduates on this simple forum.
PoliticsRe: Muslim Leaders Vow To Defend Islamic Banking by darqly(m): 4:59pm On Jul 26, 2011
I really can't understand why muslims seem to think they should be allowed to make threatening and inflammatory statements and other Nigerians should shut up and take it. Now for a body as high as the supreme council to release such a damning comment and even insinuate the consequences that they are capable of unleashing is downright irresponsible and really crass. Once again religious leaders miss the point and are trading barbs whilst their followers wallow in lack and poverty.

BusinessRe: How Can I Become A Billionaire At 36! by darqly(m): 6:48pm On Jul 21, 2011
Becoming a billionaire =EXPERIENCE + OPPORTUNITY.
EXPERIENCE= HARDWORK + HARDKNOCKS
OPPORTUNITY= The one in a million chance you have NO control over whatsoever.

My friend, you must become an EXPERT at something, anything(This takes 10,000hrs minimum, of dedicated practise). Secondly, the lines HAVE to fall for you in pleasant places and YOU must take the advantage at that precise moment. Many things/factors prepare us for a life of greatness, but we have no control of the vast majority of the ingredients. Use what you have, but be able to recognize your opportunity or it'll pass you by.
Read "OUTLIERS-The story of Success" by Malcolm Gladwell- Great stuff.
PoliticsRe: Rochas Okorocha Appoints Nkiru Sylvanus Sa, Lagos Affairs by darqly(m): 6:16pm On Jul 20, 2011

TravelRe: Local Airlines Raise Fares By 50% by darqly(m): 5:21pm On Jul 19, 2011
But airfares seem to only ever go up in Nigeria, aren't there times when JetA1 is abundantly available and we get a rebate? Did a round trip Lagos-yola just last week, needless to say I was flustered by the cost. Literally an arm and both legs, barely made it back home.
PoliticsRe: Does Nigeria Have An Intelligence Gathering Outfit? by darqly(m): 8:36pm On Jul 18, 2011
@Ocelot- That's some useful info you shared on the various intelligence gathering outfits we have albeit underachieving. But in lieu of the DIA, Nigeria has the DMI-Directorate of Military Intelligence.

And i can hazard a theory as to why our agencies are rather 'Thick'. They employ more brawn than brain and 'man know man' effect makes a mockery of their selection and recruitment processes. SSS? I can spot an operative at arms length.
PoliticsRe: Senators, Reps Back Amnesty For Boko Haram by darqly(m): 6:54am On Jul 17, 2011
It is downright disgraceful for the lawmakers to even make such a suggestion. No longer at ease with the monster they sponsored and created, they're now edgy. FGN enjoys playing politics with citizens lives, after all there are 150mm or so of us still available to kill off. They should ask Modu Sheriff, that slimeball, where he got Boko Haram from. The man is as guilty as Sin in this case. Those clamouring for amnesty, na wa. It seems a NEW term has been added to our otherwise sparse vocabulary. A bunch of ne'er do wells kill and terrorize a NATION, and the best we can offer as justice is a jaunt to any country of their choice, paid by the their victims? We really need to realign our thoughts and discard this defeatist and lazy attitude slowly permeating society. Soon, cultists will claim amnesty, those agberos in NURTW oyo will follow suit- Where is the role of justice in Nigeria? Abuja is under lockdown presently because of a ragtag bunch of riffraff, and our feeble President watches on, seeking a new single term of 7yrs. Nigeria is slowly drifting into a somalia-type state, just give us time.
PoliticsRe: Heavy Rain Floods Parts Of Lagos by darqly(m): 3:39am On Jul 11, 2011
Re-designing an already built-up environment, in this case a city, is ALWAYS costly business and nasty too! There's just not enough channels for the water to course thru, the few that are maintained have been stockpiled with garbage. Nature is a terrific force, nothing stands in her way oh. Some structures exist where they ought not to and need to be DEMOLISHED to make way for adequate and proper drainage systems. Now who has the guts to do what we all agree is the ONLY solution that can hold water ? (pardon the pun, couldn't help myself!)
CrimeRe: Rabi Ismail (actress) To Die By Hanging by darqly(m): 5:43am On Jul 10, 2011
minotaur:
Eclairs sweet!!! how silly! chocolate, especially dark chocolate, contains a lot of substances which can induce a good number of reactions in an individual. Was that particular eclairs or others from the same manufacturing brand examined for possible toxic substances? Where are the results of the investigation? I do not agree with the verdict.
minotaur, whilst there is the minutest chance this may be possible, i think u need to understand the love that a typical HAUSA man has for confectioneries and just how much Kano has to offer. Chances are that if he'd been allergic, he'd have died ages before meeting the accused- We did eat a helluva lot of sweets in Kano and they're in abundance too.

@chukaeze hurling insults @ other posters is neither germane to the issue being discussed nor does it cement your authority as a bastion of knowledge in the matter. Thats the reason it's a PUBLIC forum- You could instead share what you KNOW in the hope that everyone leaves abit wiser than when they got here-# Just saying

PoliticsRe: El-Rufai Arrested By SSS Over "Inciting Claims" by darqly(m): 5:44am On Jul 04, 2011
I've read and re-read elrufai's articles and I see nothing Inciting nor inflammatory about calling a spade a spade. Just when did stating the obvious make you a target for the security services? The same SSS that gathers intel AFTER breaches in security have successfully occured? That uses (and possesses) far more brawn than brain? We can either keep deluding ourselves over this farcical arrest or 'invitation' as some termed it, or wake up to the harsh reality that our country is wobbling too close to the precipice of sheer ANARCHY under GEJ and his misplaced priorities!

Christianity EtcRe: Speaking In Tongues In Present Day Churches by darqly(m): 7:09pm On Jun 08, 2011
A lot of lucid and really thorough responses here so far; What is unchanging is the scripture we're each quoting. I guess a lot is being lost in our individual translations.
Christianity EtcRe: Speaking In Tongues In Present Day Churches by darqly(m): 3:10pm On Jun 08, 2011
But if a christian NEVER speaks in tongues, does that make him less a christian? Does it mean he's not properly Born again?
PoliticsRe: Four-year Term Short, Says Jonathan by darqly(m): 1:42pm On May 27, 2011
@joecrack- why are you quick to slurp all the crap GEJ and co spew without even giving it some thought? A year and a half to stabilize? Even foreign players don't take a year and a half to stabilize (whatever that means). Ill advised remark in my opinion and a pointer to what the president hopes to achieve or in this case, Under-achieve.

EducationRe: Final Year Students (bowen) Being Punished By Kneeling Down In The Sun!(pics) by darqly(m): 4:34pm On May 12, 2011
Why are we acting all shocked and outraged? It's an institution guided by rules and regulations as is customary. They went against a law and are being punished- should it be any different just because it's a private Uni? And by the way, did ANY of the students go to court? A little humility, though enforced, never killed anyone. If it'll make them better individuals, let them kneel all day by all means. If you can't abide by the rules in school, how do you play by the book at work and other life instances? Some of the graduates we see today are just a disgrace to themselves and the society at large; ill-mannered and morally deficient.
RomanceRe: Will You Still Marry Her If She Won't Fully Change Her Last Name -No Hyphenation by darqly(m): 5:28am On May 04, 2011
Interesting opinions, but thats all they are and are subject to being accepted or not. Amazing how many women 'claim' they would keep daddy's name, whatever it takes- has much to do with all these women lib talk that we can never get enough off. I'd say a man that accepted a 'name-sharing' arrangement with his wife probably stands to gain an undue advantage somehow; men are cunning. In few instances though, the man might actually be lily-livered and kowtow's to wifey's apron strings. A name is an identity; that u accept mine @ marriage in no way annihilates ur lineage but affirms that we're willing to chart OURS. If she loves daddy's name that much, she bloody well better remain daddy's girl then.
PoliticsRe: A Muslim Who Risk All To Save His Xtian Neighbours by darqly(m): 1:49pm On Apr 28, 2011
@amala- Keep living in denial and self pity. I take it you're from the southwest abi? on your assertions that 'The world may embark on islamic genocide', i can't but laugh. Brother, check the stats and figures- muslims are the ones blowing up and hacking to pieces everyone in sight. Your parallels with the rwandan genocide is baseless because it was purely ethnic- Hutu vs Tutsi, even 10yr olds know that now! The trouble is once you people start killing, you get so engrossed during the frenzy that you don't realize when you start chanting 'allahu akbar'. Even if i was born yesterday, i know which religion to associate that with. And then people like you NEVER come out(either out of fear or covert approval, more likely.) to condemn your ilk and brethren. Instead you rush to nairaland and start warning us that your religion stands for peace; That tune is worn out abeg. Come to the north and beg your ummah to stop tarnishing your religion- but I doubt if they will spare you too, because yoruba muslims are looked upon with disdain up here by YOUR own fellow hausa muslims.
PoliticsRe: A Muslim Who Risk All To Save His Xtian Neighbours by darqly(m): 11:29pm On Apr 25, 2011
See me see wahala ye,,, I dey see danger. . .  My brother, from our short discussion so far, have I in any form tried to impose  my view on you at all let alone  violently. Is this what you
Now I see you're tired gists. I was speaking generally, not U and ME, heck I've never met u. I just find it tiresome that as soon as people are killed in the name of islam, your type flood the boards and start telling us you stand for peace and yada yada yada.
" Luckily for me, I have never had to live in christian dominated  area. Therefore, I don't know how violent you guys can get. But"- This is the most brazenly inaccurate remark I've come across, I leave you to reflect upon it as it really sounds comical.
@cyborg- are u a hausa muslim, pray tell? Cos u claim I don't know northern muslims, despite being part hausa/kanuri and being born and raised in Jos. If you're a SW muslim, keep ur brand of islam in Lag before coming up here, else you'll be skewered too, by UR hausa-muslim ummah! Lol. SW muslims that cut cake @ weddings? And dress in suits? Spare me abeg LWKMD. Keep watching michael moore's movies, u seem to be a huge fan. After today ALL of you apologists will forget ur nairaland IDs(ur stats don't lie), until the next great muslim massacre. I wish you well for there are none so blind as they that WILL not see.
PoliticsRe: A Muslim Who Risk All To Save His Xtian Neighbours by darqly(m): 9:14pm On Apr 25, 2011
@gists- ur logical inference is SKEWED! Not all muslims can be judged by the parameters of my uncle, likewise its highly improbable and very faulty to compare ONE Bologi to ALL muslims. For each life he saved, 10 were lost elsewhere. Have u ever had cause to seek refuge in a christians home? Ur use of google to buttress ur points actually shoot u in the foot. The prefix of MILITANT is ISLAMIC 'goooogle it' too. U have shias hugging sunnis with explosive vests in iraq, then shia-sunni combos KILLING every other person, every other day WORLDWIDE. The day you can google me ONE christian 'terrorist'(de words don't even rhyme), I'll give u a dozen sects in islam that propagate terror as a tool for spreading their message. I cannot foist my beliefs on you ever, but if you regularly impose your views on me VIOLENTLY, fundamentally you must have a problem. Its chilling that muslims chant allahu akbar as they commit these atrocities.
PoliticsRe: A Muslim Who Risk All To Save His Xtian Neighbours by darqly(m): 7:28pm On Apr 25, 2011
@gists- If these regular atrocities are committed by just a few adherents of ur faith-RASCALS-as you labelled them, then your religion either draws the wrong type or just fails to instil the moral guidance its supposed to. I still put it to you- why don't other religions react as violently and spontaneously as islam? Still on my yoruba-muslim uncle, he hates the west(capitals of hedonism he calls them)but patronises the advances they've made in technology, health and education- why the double-talk? Do you still write on slates and stone tablets? This petty hypocrisy amuses me more than it irritates me.
@cyborg- you also read conspiracy theory 101 about 9/11? Internal job my foot, go and re-read your post and realize how gullible you are in your desperation to protect your religion even when there's overwhelming evidence proving otherwise. I leave you with one question- You pledge total belief in the koran abi? Is that verse about killing 'INFIDELS' in the koran or not? In adhering with the teachings of your prophet, do you accept KILLING as a commandent to be OBEYED in your faith? Come back when you have my answers.
