PoliticsRe: North East Development Commission Bill: An Unpatriotic And Unfortunate Bill by davidif: 11:01pm On Oct 25, 2016
bejeiodus:
First, have you been to the Northeast to have firsthand experience of the destruction wrought by Boko Haram?

Second, why are you against this patriotic act of lending a hand in rebuilding the Northeast? Shouldn't we be our brothers' keeper?

Third, the bill will definitely sail through in the lower house. The honourable members are guided by facts, not hatred and tribalism.

The Southern senators who voted in favour of the bill are citizens who identify with the dire situation the people of the Northeast find themselves. Whether the armed group was allowed to fester by the elite or not won't rebuild schools, fight the scourge of war nor provide nutrient to highly malnourished children. The people of the Northeast have suffered enough. They need empathy, Tonye, not scorn and sneer.

By the way, other regions can agitate for a development commission if they have the political weight to pull it through.

Money is one of the main drivers of corruption. If you want to reduce it, you have to limit the amount of money in the system. Same goes for Nigeria, if you want to limit the corruption get rid of allocation in this country. Let every state raise there own revenue that way they would be less money and people would be able to better monitor where the money is going if not its going to continue.

And you see why Nigeria is failing to develop? When you keep propping all this awful state govts. Why can't let them stand by themselves and generate there own revenue and run there affairs. Its glaring and obvious that for Nigeria to develop power has to be decentralized to the local level. Let the local govts provide policing for there districts and set there own agenda. Nothing fuels corruption and incompetence than free money. If you want to get rid of corruption in this country, starve the govt of money.

You have a very good point but bros you knw what? #kolowerk mehn! This is Nigeria and you yourself has already defined it by the limiting factor : Hausa man, Ibo man, Yoruba man etc. Countries you want us to model that proposal after aren't diversely multiethnic as we are. For instance, America is largely made up of English speaking Americans, ditto UK, France. Spain, Portugal, etc If there's a diversity, it's an insignificant one of no political consequence
Bros, it doesn't make sense. If i have lived in a region almost all my life and i know the people there, know the issues facing the people, pay taxes to the local or state govt and some guy who has never even set foot in that community except for a burial or christmas celebration would now come and contest meanwhile the other guy can't even run. Do you see the extreme stupidity in that. Its so sad how the rest of the world makes fun of us Africans. My guy, i wish you would travel abroad to get a different perspective. Nigerians solutions are so glaring to any outsider (those outside the forest) but those in the forest can't see them. They are still caught up in ibo vs hausa, yoruba vs. ibo so petty and ridiculous.

Nigeria is working.

To those writing below me,I pray God opens your eyes to see that the fight against corruption is above petty tribal sentiments.

A crime has been committed,so because the Company is owned by an Igbo man,we should turn our faces to the other side?because the Igbos are special and above the law?we should rise above this petty tribal coloration.

The sad thing about cases like this,is that those committing these crimes, are low staff members of the company who wants to make a killing, and so forges documents without the company even being aware of these fraudulent acts.

Back to the Tribal writers below me.

The Police that charged the Company is an Igbo man,and most importantly one of the Lawyers defending the Company is a Yoruba Man. Learn a thing or two from this.

Somebody smart down there wrote, and I quote "This happened in 2013" So for the fact the matter has been dragging on for 3 years, the Buhari Government should let it slide because an Igbo man is involved?people with myopic thinking sef.

The fight against corruption in Buhari's Government,is a fight that must be won,no matter whose ox is gored.
Bros, this is why the concept of a national police is so dumb. It is wasteful, inefficient, highly ineffective and corrupt. The issue of policing should be localized; as in local govt should be able to provide policing to there citizenry under the watchful eyes of the state like it happens in a lot of advanced countries. This is why i have been calling for autonomy and decentralization of the republic. Things are waaaaaaaaay to centralized. You have a federal govt electricity company, national oil producing company, govt hospitals, federal universities, you even have a national television station and you wonder why things are so poor in Naija.

For goodness sakes, let the local govt learn to walk. Let them take care of themselves and there people and provide there own police force to govern themselves. Let them elect there police commissioners every for years like other public officials (with a provision to remove them from office if they can't perform or are corrupt). Let the district and state judges also be voted in every 4 years to enable more transparency in the system. If every local govts had there own police force and where being funded by there local govts where police commissioner go find money this amount of money to embezzle.

Naija's problems are so obvious and the solutions are staring us right in the eyes but for some reasons our leaders can't see it.

This is why the stupidity of the concept of State of Origin comes into play. Why should someone whose only ties to a place is through his father's lineage just be accepted as "one of your own" meanwhile someone from a different tribe who has lived in that area for years still can't contest elections.
Its because of this stupidity that we have to do away with State of Origin so that any Nigerian can be able to contest for a local or federal seat no matter where he lives. An Ibo guy who can prove that he has lived (or owns a house) in Zamfara for at least 2 years should be able to run for Local govt chairman or Governor of the state he lives in and vice versa. Who knows a place better than the person who lives there but what you have in Nigeria is people going back to contest for a position in a place they have never lived before simply because there ancestors where from there. Naija mentality sef!

Even if the Hausa man in Ekiti is an outsider what's wrong with that? At least he lives there and probably knows the issues more than the guy who just comes "home" during Christmas and Easter. Abeg, one of the most valuable things in governance and in institutions is an outsiders perspective: at times, it takes an outsider to expose your own unclothedness because they usually see things that you don't see or notice anymore and that is why you hire people with fresh set of eyes to solve a problem within an institution partly because they are neutral and they see things clearly.

You simply can't solve a problem with the same kind of thinking that caused it in the first place. Haba! there is a reason why some companies clean house and get outsiders when things are not going well. If we could implement things like this in Nigeria, boy you see serious "change".

NigerianLady:
Hi, I got my letter jan 31st this year, at the national Assembly(NA) & got the job at a Federal institution in this country infact just the next day...My qualifications are just as yours but was to no avail till I got this letter. I was told the same thing as you& decided to try my luck out..I met a lady in passing, who spoke about looking for a contract from NA, so I called her up& told her what I was looking for. Then she connected me to an SLA inside(because you can't get pass the security there without 4stages-1)that person inside has to send your name to be printed outside 1st with a code 2) you'd have to go into a room with the code where you'd be snapped& asked questions, then given a card number 3)you'll face the main security who would ask you to call up that same person to send a delegate to come pick you up roaming ISNT allowed, but my experience was different funny enough the SLA was very nice& gentle always calling me(third stage)...but it still delayed a while,so I just stepped aside & waited..Now typical nigerians with their bragging rights came along with "don't you know me",how dare you speeches but the security was firm, then fortunately I was called & the man said I was calm& I should go in..4)you drop an ID card or your hand set(I dropped an expired drivers license)pheew! Was so lucky It slipped then you'll be given a red card(if you are going for a senator&green if its an Representative)..I got in but my dear if not for that SLA(special legislative Aid)my mission that day would have just come to an end because everywhere is with only numbers(2.7.4,2.1.1) not either names of states or names of the honorable..but I believe if you can get that far you shouldn't leave till you get what you want why? Because its your right& their duty to recommend you for what you want but that was even after investigating! (yes the senator called people who should at least know my folks),even when I had my state of origin certificate! hope this is helpful.
I was stunned by your signature. I have been saying that same line for a while now. Its like i met someone who thinks like me. Good for you.

THUNDER FIRE THEM{THE ONE’S WHO USE WOMEN}

I see our men, asking for Nigerian wives, having fiancée back abroad; they come home to do secret weddings, impregnate their wives here and run back to their abroad lovers, what the hell is wrong with this generation?

We need to stop this form of fraud, and slavery, people aren’t toys to be used and discarded, and the funny thing is we don’t do it to white women alone, we do it to our own African sisters, we say once they get there they change, they don’t want to come back home, they report to the police when we hit them, they lie to get the house and child support, so we want someone who would listen to us and obey our every word and then they rush back home to marry one innocent girl they want to frustrate.

I am not against genuine men who want to come home to marry MBANU, I love LOVE, but when I see a man who thinks my African sisters are baby making machines, who they want to come home and impregnate every time, who they want to use as a tool to carry on their linage then I get angry, I get angry because they see us as a commodity, I get angry because they see us as a means to an end, I get angry because love isn’t an equator in this arrangement.

I wouldn’t blame all the men either, our women have become cheap cormorants over the years, searching the air like birds, sniffing a whiff of an abroad returnee who they want to perch on, leech on, suck and bleed dry, our women have seen these NDIOYIBOS as a means to an end, all they want to do is sit down at home, he opens up a business for them, and when he comes back they open their legs like a compass and be dutiful, the womb is ready to be filled for the next nine months.

We have become sardines, cornered into a space, waiting for the biggest to be picked, and then we jeer our peers, tell them oga de for obodo oyibo, sometimes we don’t care what our abroad husbands does for a living, we just want to sit back home, enjoy his money and sometimes Bleep the ones we love while he’s away.

There are good women abroad, and this habit I am sorry to say is common among the Igbo people of Nigeria, they go abroad and hustle and want to invest back home, i have no problem with this, but who will now marry that girl you have been deceiving there? Who will heal the heart of that white woman you have been deceiving.

These white women sef, you have used your heads to carry wahala, you agreed for an arrangee wedding and then you go fall in love, how low has your esteem fallen? Why do you want to make our African men worth nothing, you have frustrated them to the extent they see you as a thing to be used and discarded, when and how did you become scums that a black man will ride and plough you until he gets tired, haba na, oyibo pepper ogini, give our men peace so they can value you, not every small thing you will call police for them and everything he has saved all his life will be yours, please I am begging this needs to stop, don’t be the tool that will be used to unscrew the nut holding you heart.

Umu woke anyi, biko, gbaraa these white women, they have suffered, pity our African sisters, they have suffered to, anywhere you see love please settle down, love doesn’t come with a manual, it doesn’t base its foundation on ethnicity, religion, color or country, its pure like water and flows effortlessly like a calm stream, don’t in your search for something better end up with a viper.

Its all about the system. When a system is broken, whatever you put into it is going to also be damaged. it doesn't matter much whether you put an ivy league graduate or someone from the best law firm into it because it will still be a struggle.

Until we change our system to fit our society I don't think things will work. The changes I am talking about are removing the immunity clause for those from public office, decentralizing authority and power in the nation state and empowering the local govts, making local and state ministerial and judicial positions open for elections, abolishing the party system so that people can vote for individuals instead of parties. Under this rule anyone can run for public office individually as supposed to under a party banner. The problem is that people just vote blindly based on party alliances as supposed to knowing who the candidates are.

For ladies, wear makeup occasionally, maybe once or twice per week. But in general I will recommend mascara and lip gloss are enough for most situations..
