SportsRe: Germany comprehensively whoops England (Finals score 4-1) by davidif: 2:40am On Jun 27, 2010
The Germans are regarded as a strong footballing nation and have performed over the years but I am sorry to say the present crop of players have no clue, they were extremely lucky against the Ghanians and that is the truth!!
Lucky?? are you serious? the germans won that game fair and square, the ghanaians were losing posession easily and when they had it, they weren't effective in the final 1/3 of the pitch. How can you play the Germans and have nobody tracking Mesut Ozil and you call yourself a serious team.

TYPICAL POLITICIAN, LOOKING FOR SOMEONE TO BLAME. IN ITALY, POLITICIANS BLAME EVERYTHING ON IMMIGRANTS TO SCORE POLITICAL POINTS. BERLUSCONI DID IT AND A LOT OF OTHERS DO IT. WHY CAN'T THIS POLITICIAN ASK LIPPI WHY HE DIDN'T BRING ANTONIO CASSANO, FABRIZIO MICCOLI OR SEBASTIAN GIOVINCIO. HECK, WHY DIDN'T HE BRING IN QUAGLIARELLA EARLIER ON IN THE GAME? NOW HE HAS THE AUDACITY TO BLAME IT ON IMMIGRANTS, SILLY NATIONALISM! THIS IS WHY POLITICIANS SHOULD STAY OUT OF SPORTS COMPLETELY.

SSaemoenl:
Lippi made a  serious mistake on his selection, one example when he fail to include BAROTELLA in the national team cos of his colour of the skin, Now they are regretting!

Arsene Wenger ''educating'' Nigerian coaches?

Shocking.

We seem to have lost all shame as a people.

Tufia, (spit)

I wonder which European coach went over to ''educate'' Brazilians, Argentines, Uruguayans, Chileans etc. on how to play the round leather game. Oh Sorry I forgot, those nations actually have the self-esteem and confidence in their ability to develop their game without ''foreign assistance''.

Shameless, dependent fools, all of you,
Madam, please YOU KNOW NOTHING ABOUT FOOTBALL!!! so keep your opinions to yourself. Geez, in case you didn't know brazillians, chileans, and uruguyans had european coaches to copme educate them. Infact, they are always studying the european game. From your comments, you are one of those people who only watch football during the world cup so why don't you do us a favor and go to the kitchen.

SEFAGO:
It doesn't matter- it just means more Americans would be forced to go into the engineering and science field.
ha ha ha ha, more Americans would be forced to go to the engineering field? ha ha haha. You really are funny, i would love to ask my oyinbo friends, the lot of them that study humanities to drop it and go study chemical engineering ha ha ha, or to go get there PhD's in Engineering, that would be hillarious he he he. Abeg stop arguing blindly, the problem with most Nigerians is that they argue to win an arguement and not necessarily to learn new things.
like SEFAGO already said, a smart student will thrive anywhere. just that a school with adequate resources is all the smart student needs.
How many schools have those "adequate resource" you mentioned? Isn't that what seperates your UNILAG from your CALTECH? uhn?

SEFAGO:
U are a bit wrong here. A smart student would thrive academically anywhere he attends.
You are wrong, wrong, wrong. Why don't you send your students to be taught by an HND holder? In case, you didn't know, teaching is all about the quality of instruction, if the instructor is an HND holder he would not be as good as a masters degree holder in that same field, why do you think that Singapore has the best secondary school education in the world? its because they realize that a student is only as good as the quality of instruction he gets, that's why they focus on teachers, teachers, teachers. Every teacher must have graduated top of his class and to complement that, he his sent to teaching school and after that he is put under another experienced teacher so that he can apprentice because they understand that knowing something is not the same thing as being able to explain it, especially to students of a different intellectual level than you.

omar22 and proproman,
Like i said in my earlier posts, Nigerians don't know football. The average Nigerian fan does not know what a zone defense or cannot read what the other team is doing they can't even tell you what a basic thing like a set piece is, all they know how to do is shout at the TV screen during the match.

wake up from your slumber, young man! Actually your last statement made a whole lot of sense but unfortunately, your accusations as a denounced fellow is shaming our heritage before the world.
The Bafana 2x of S/A employed a foreign to train their players for months. Isn't it surprising that Italy was thrown out of the group?
Come on, grow up and learn the tactics of football.
In case you forgot, Ghana which has a better league than us and yet don't they have a foreign coach? Algeria has a local coach, were did that get them. Look at Egypt, they haven't gotten to the World Cup in decades.

FOOTBALL IS MUCH MUCH TACTICAL THAN YOU AND I KNOW, ITS VERY METHODICAL AND PROCEDURAL, ITS NOT LIKE THE "KICK AND FOLLOW" THAT WE GREW UP PLAYING. ITS NOT ALL ABOUT YELLING AT THE PLAYERS OR MAKING ANIMATED AND EMOTIONAL REACTIONS ON THE SIDE LINE JUST TO SHOW THOSE WATCHING AT HOME THAT YOU CARE. AS A COACH YOU MUST KNOW THE STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES OF YOUR PLAYERS, KNOW THERE PSYCHOLOGICAL STATE AND HOW TO INTERACT WITH THEM AND GET THE BEST OUT OF THEM. IN OTHER WORDS, WHAT IS GOOD FOR "GOOSE MIGHT NOT BE GOOD FOR THE GANDER".
YOU HAVE TO BE ABLE TO MAKE TOUGH CHOICES. For example, let's say your best striker is misfiring, what do you do knowing that even the best strikers go through rough patches? Do you continue playing him and hope that he fights through it or do you bench him instantly and ruin his confidence. This is what happened to Italy in the world cup in 1982. The coach decided to stick with Paolo Rossi and he went on to win the world cup for them despite the fact that rossi had been worse than yakubu in the first few games. As a coach, you can't afford to be impatient. You can't make substitutions because you are angry or you might miss an opportunity to win.

WHEN IT COMES TO TACTICS, THERE IS A REASON BEHIND EACH FORMATION, OR SUBSTITUTION. FOOTBALL IS NOT LIKE THE silly "MONKEY POST" THAT WE GREW UP PLAYING, ITS LIKE A CHESS MATCH, ONE HAS TO BE ABLE TO READ THE GAME PROPERLY AND ANTICIPATE YOUR OPPONENTS YOUR OPPONENTS MOVES THIS COMES FROM HAVING WATCHED YOUR OPPONENTS VERY VERY WELL AND KNOWING THERE WEAKNESSES, THEN COME UP WITH A STRATEGY TO WIN THE GAME AND THE TACTICS TO USE TO CARRY OUT THE STRATEGY. AS A COACH, YOU MUST NOT ONLY BE ABLE TO READ THE GAME PROPERLY BUT BE ABLE TO MAKE ADJUSTMENTS ON THE FLY. DID I FORGET TO TELL YOU THAT SOME OF THE TACTICS CAN BE VERY COMPLEX DEPENDING ON THE SITUATION. IN THE PREMIERSHIP, YOU MUST AT LEAST HAVE GOTTEN YOUR UEFA PRO LICENSE AND YOUR UEFA A-LICENSE BEFORE YOU CAN EVEN BEGIN TO COACH AND YET VERY FEW PEOPLE ARE AS GIFTED AS THE WENGER AND CO. LOOK HOW MYSTIFIED JOHN MENSAH WAS ABOUT HIS COACH'S TACTICS HERE
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2010/soccer/world-cup-2010/writers/jonathan_wilson/06/24/ghana.tacticaloverview/index.html

THIS IS ONE OF THE REASONS WHY I LAUGH WHEN PEOPLE SAY THAT AMODU WAS BETTER THAN LAGERBACK OR THAT WE SHOULD OVERHAUL THE ENTIRE TEAM AND PUT IN AN U-17 TEAM. WHICH SERIOUS FOOTBALLING COUNTRY DOES THAT? ARE THOSE YOUNG PLAYERS ABLE TO STAND UP TO THE PHYSICAL RIGORS OF THE MORDERN GAME OR ARE THERE SKILLS GOOD ENOUGH YET? SOME OF THIS GUYS HAVE NOT EVEN STARTED PLAYING REGULARLY FOR THERE CLUBS.  FOR THOSE WHO ARE ALWAYS SCREAMING FOR HOME BASED PLAYERS, DO YOU KNOW HOW BACKWARD OUR LOCAL LEAGUES ARE? THIS GUYS HAVE NO FACILITIES, THE LEVEL OF COACHING AND INSTRUCTION IS POOR, THEY ARE NOT EVEN WELL CONDITIONED OR WELL TRAINED ENOUGH, NO TACTICAL UNDERSTANDING, NOTHING AT ALL. LOOK AT BRAZIL WITH ONE OF THE BEST LEAGUES IN SOUTH AMERICA AND YET HOW MANY LOCAL PLAYERS DID DUNGA BRING? NONE. NOW COMPARE THAT TO OUR OWN PATHETIC LEAGUE. UNA THINK SAY FOOTBALL IS ALL ABOUT DRIBBLING 4 PLAYERS THEN LOSING POSESSION TO THE FIFTH PLAYER. YOU GUYS ARE JUST IGNORANT.

Local coaches definitely need to be exposed to the best and greatest techniques and technicians from highly developed and burgeoning leagues.

But this 7-day thingy is Nigeria's fire brigade approach!!! Totally futile!

What we need is a thoughtful, robust and strategic 4 to 7-year development plan. Not some yeye chat with Arsene Wenger in a hotel corridor. Haba! Dem swear for una?!

When will we ever learn?! angry

The best Nigerians for the job have not been given an opportunity either.

Amodu is not the best Nigeria has.

Brazil will win the world cup with rookie coach Dunga.

Egypt are not silly either for trusting on Shehata.

This is not about skin colour or blind nationalism. It is about common sense. There is no need seeking strangers when the best within us have not been given a chance.

It may be good for Sani Lulu's pocket hiring ridiculous foreign coaches, but it surely has not been good for Nigerian football.
Have you ever asked yourself what if the best among you is not good enough? read my earlier post(the emboldened one) and see if Amodu honestly fits that billing.

I hear you, they should appoint Nigerian coaches that are former players that have been there and done that, the truth is that african teams like Ghana, Nigeria and Ivory Coast do not need Foreign head coaches, maybe as assistant coach or technical adviser but not as a head coach. When westerhoff was technical advisor for Nigeria in the early 90's see how far Nigeria went in football
and westerhoff had a Genuine love for the Country. If anybody should coach nigeria again who is foriegn it should be him,
Ghanaians are not stupid. There FA makes good decisions. They realized that you need to get the best man for the job irrespective of there nationality or skin color.

Rubbish! 'Coach' is not our problem.
Arsense eagle or whatever he call himself knows nothing about African football. Isn't it obvious that all the foreign coaches that led african teams to south africa messed up. We Nigerians understand ourselves than any foreigner.
The same people that invited Wenger will criticize and abuse him by the time he picks 10 players from the south and may be 1 player from either west or north. Our problem is tribalism!!!
See how you are letting your ignorance just spew out. You have show that you know absolutely nothing about football or coaching so why don't you keep your opinions to yourselves.
On a serious note, The NFF should sponsor all our local coaches to got to Europe and get a UEFA Pro License and a UEFA A-License.
Nairaland GeneralRe: Do We Have Respect For Privacy? by davidif: 3:28pm On Jun 25, 2010
poster,
There is a proverb (i think it is an African one) that says it takes a village to raise a child. In yanki, the mantra is "there is my family and there is everybody else", this sort of creates an us vs. them social dynamic. In Nigeria, our culture originated from rural communal settings as a result there is no such thing as privacy, in the west, with more advanced settings, urban organization drove communities apart, so you have people living in distance and a society that is not so communal. The interpersonal dynamic is almost the same, there is  this buffer between individuals called "personal space".
