FamilyRe: Effects Of Early Marriage by davidif: 6:49am On May 29, 2009
early marriage is the best option for everybody. men should marry at 21, women should marry at 17. It is a shame and abormination for women in my culture to pass 18 years without being married. I am 20 and my wife was 16 when we got married. it is now 9 years and we already have 4 kids. It is a real joyful union!
ehn, ololomu, in some states here, it is called pedophilia, o. shocked shocked shocked. Abeg, nobody should marry before 24 or whenever they at least finish there bachelor's degree.

Il capitano has retired after 24 years at AC Milan, a club he has played for since he was a kid, his father too also spent time at the club, let's hope that his child also becomes a Milan legend.
As a player he was an immaculate proffessional, i first heard about him during USA '94, and since then he has always remained a fixture to the soccer elites. I don't think that we would ever see his kind again. He was the symbol of loyalty and ultimate proffessionalism. I wish him the best in his future endeavors and may God bless him.

PoliticsRe: Prof. J. O. Dabiri: A Nigerian Professor Unlike The Many Fakes In Nigerian Politics by davidif: 12:19am On May 09, 2009
Actually the tenure process is not that well defined and varies from school to school. In fact, in most top schools it is highly political, and minority professors often struggle with the process.
Hopefully with all the shouting on diversity, we hope to see more black professors at the top level, which will in turn increase opportunities for blacks at the student and faculty level.
It is my considered opinion that students in top schools are not made of innate abilities, but of the little opportunities that are afforded them as they grow up.

One thing I am yet to investigate is the effect of a failed tenure on the career of a professor, particularly one of minority origins, given that the opportunities are usually limited in the first place.
ehn, na lie o, in the top schools, you have to be insanely good to get a position there because you are competing with other proffessors to win a Nobel Prize. Can you imagine being in the economics department of Columbia university where you have to compete with several Nobel Winners like Paul Krugman, Joseph Stiglitz and the others. You would have to better step your game up boy.
FamilyRe: Love Marriage Or Arranged Marriage Which Do You Prefer? by davidif: 12:12am On May 09, 2009
Arranged marriage is dumb.
osisi abi deepzone or whatever
TO EACH HIS OWN. My friend told me of her co-worker who is anxiously waiting to go back home because her parents have prepared her a husband. One of my indian friends also got married through an arranged marriage. The morale of the story is if you like it then go for it. Its economical and cheap you don't waste time going through the whole dating hassle and if you are the shy guy you don't have to be so racked up with nervousness at asking a girl you like out. The selection process is done by people whom you trust and with a lot of consultation from the individual who is getting married anyway. There marriage is simpler because they already know the code of being a good wife and they rarely venture outside that. They are also not raised to be rebellious as we are.

Also most so called "love" marriages are very imperfect because people are not the same way they are after marriage. Everybody pulls a front during courtship, then a year into the marriage you begin to find out who they actually are? so what is the difference between that and arranged marriage.
PoliticsRe: Study- The Long-term Effects Of Africa's Slave Trades by davidif: 12:05am On May 09, 2009
You see, even without you knowing it, your suggestions for the building of Africa are from a colonial perspective. This is a very hard problem to deal with, that I am able to spot it, is because I have paid attention to it, but it is a serious problem that destroys us.

Your four points all reek of our copying the white man and not developing our own barometer. Africa led in development in the past, and development should not be-western.

1. No, our education system does not have to be 'tertiary' or any other division the white-man invented. We need our own system, culturally organized.

2. No, who said we need rail? Maybe some other transport, maybe some easy, eco-friendly tele-transport system. Why rail?

3. Who said 'democracy' or 'demon-crazy', as Prophet Fela would call it is the method? I strongly as do Philosophers suggest 'Philosophy Kings' as our method of governance. Why demoncracy?
This is the same mentality that the taliban and other islamic extremist have, they don't want mordernization, they want to going back to living in caves and living as nomads who are ruled by sharia law that believes in beheading people and that encourages the subjugation of women.

I don't want to hear all this nonsense reparation for slavery nonsense or the whole anti-jewish crap. You seem to have some hidden prejudices man, abeg go check yourself.

Like i said, Nigeria has not gone through the same thing that the Congo went through or what south africa and Angola went through but why is Nigeria doing very poorly.
Besides, we were not the only ones colonized, India was, and so were several countries in Asia like Indonesia and co and they are doing a lot better. Have you ever heard of Vietnam? Vietnam went through over 5 decades of wars from world war 2, to the revolution against the french and right into the conflict with the US and after the US left they were fighting against Cambodia. This left the country worse off than most countries in Africa and there populations were greatly decimated; around the same number of people in Vietnam died if not more during this conflicts than the number of casualties of the Congo. Now look at them today, one of the fastest growing economies in the world; almost surpassing China itself. Did we also forget that China was also as poor as many countries in Africa today. In fact, 60 million people are estimated to have died in China because of Chairman Mao Zedong but that hasn't hampered there progress.

The White man destroyed Africa
Enough of over generalized statements abeg jo. This is like saying that "black people are lazy" or "murderous thugs". Everybody should be treated as there own individual and not lumped together with what everybody else who share the same skin color with him did 400 years ago. Everybody should have to account for there own actions. Should all white people from Idaho to Bologna, Italy start coming to Africa and asking for forgiveness or should there govts start handing out there taxpayers money to Africans. If we can't get this simplistic generalizations out of our mind we would continue to live in a prejudiced world. The white people in my class, what do they have to do with slavery?? ehn tell me? what of the white people i see everyday walking on the street. What do they have to do with what happened hundreds of years ago?

Compare Nigeria at 50 to Guatemala at 75 etc, etc on the list of GDP
What of the other countries i mentioned like mexico and brazil did they not also go through "trauma". By the way, Guatemala has a higher standard of living (per capita Income) than Nigeria and they have a small productive population.

superego, BRAZIL, CHILE, MEXICO, GUATEMALA. This were countries that had a majority of there native population wiped out and were then ruled by feudal spanish lords and the natives were forced to work on plantations for centuries. The west indies and some other carribean nations were enslaved by European imperialist for centuries too and all this guys seem to be pulling themselves up with there bootstraps despite not having the same resource that we have, especially brazil. Brazil is now one of the world leaders in innovation and they have an amazing economy.

Show me any other Nation that has gone through as much trauma as us and has done better than us.
Also, another point that i would like to make is that you generalize Africa as one nation and you compare it to other individual nations. What happened in King Leopold's Congo did not happen in Nigeria. We also didn't go through traumatic independence movements like Angola and Kenya. We also never had apartheid. In fact most countries in Africa didn't so stop lumping Africa as a nation. My brother please enough of the excuses.
PoliticsRe: Study- The Long-term Effects Of Africa's Slave Trades by davidif: 10:32pm On May 08, 2009
Well, if we don't do those now, we will still get there but it will take a bit longer. main point is we must celebrate how far we have come in lieu the unique holocaust dwarfing proportion of damage that has been done us, our land, and our minds. We have done a lot in just 40 years since west African partial independence, and we must celebrate. The US used 300 years to get where it is today (Actually - collapsed). remember for how long they were the filthy wild-wild west? Don't let anyone fool you that we are slow, we were held back, our race was sabotaged but unless the west ends the race with a fight, which I bet they will, we are slowly and surely on course to once again save and rule the world as we did in the not too distant past.
NONSENSE, ABSOLUTE NONSENSE. It took 30 years for south korea, singapore, malaysia and taiwan to become developed. It took Israel less than that and Japan a country that America leveled with its bombs after world war 2 took less than 30 years. This guys built new industries and there products started to push the americans out of business so stop giving any useless excuses my friend. The same stories apply to Germany after world war 2 but they rebuilt within a very short period of time.
You said israel got aid from the US, hasn't Africa taking a lot of aid ( hundreds of billions of dollars) from the US and other developed countries? Abeg please, i don't want to hear excuses anymore. Go read my earlier post about Israel and you would see how a small country in the desert became so developed within a short period of time.
PoliticsRe: Study- The Long-term Effects Of Africa's Slave Trades by davidif: 10:18pm On May 08, 2009
superego,
keep looking for excuse for the failure of African countries ehn. Was it slavery that encouraged Abacha to loot close to 30 billion of nigeria's money or was it slavery by the "jews" (which is a lie by the way because it was the portuguese and the arabs who pioneered the transatlantic slave trade), was it slavery that has caused the Nigerian govt to loot over 500 billion dollars in public funds since independence? So please enough of those useless excuses. Nigeria made the guiness book of world records for spending the second least on education (just 0.6% of its GNP), liberia and sierra leone who were war zones at the time spent more on education that is enough to explain why Africa is poor.

My friend listen to yourself, are you a man at all. Your happy to say that your parents should find wife for you. Maybe your dad should come and sleep with her for you as well.
iboboy, don't you understand sarcasm?? Geez, what's wrong with you people? didn't you see that i put a wink sign at the end of the sentence? by the way, to reiterate,  TO EACH HIS OWN. If you like arranged marriage then fine go along with it, if you don't its your business.

Becomrich,
May the good lord bless you for that comment. This is what Nigerians need to learn, that western notion of love is not ideal and pragmatic. True love from God is described in 1 corinthians 13 like you just stated. That love is not based on feelings and sentimentality and all that take me to the moon nonsense. Its pragmatic. I don't ever recall Joseph giving mary flowers or buying her expensive dinner with candles and what not but they stayed married. Love in western culture is very perverse that's why 50% of there marriages end in divorce, and that's after all the expensive white weddings, flowers, candle lit dinners, chocolate, teddy bears and honey moons.

If you want to see what a true spouse is, then read Proverbs 31:10-31, that's pragmatic and biblical love not sensual and sentimental love like you see on TV. Its unfortunate that my African people want to start immitating that. What a shame.
CultureRe: Why Don't White People Have African Surnames? by davidif: 1:27pm On May 08, 2009
poster, thanks for the topic, its about time we discussed something like this. Our people suffer from colonial mentality like fela said. There traditional names are not good enough for them, so they decide to change it into a "mordern" name. Nonsense. una don ever see oyinbo they bear akpan for last name before?

A few white people have traced their roots back to places populated by black people, and as a result change their names promptly.
