sage, i actually heard that we spend 60% of our GNP paying all this bureaucrats, so sad. To compound it, the ministries are too big and inefficient creating diseconomies of scale, i mean what's the point of having ministry of petroleum, ministry of Mines and Steel Development, and power. Shouldn't all of them be consolidated under one ministry of energy? the same goes for the ministries of commerce and industry, Information and Communications, Labour and Productivity, Science and Technology, and aviation, all this ministries should consolidated into the ministry of commerce. Finally, what's the point of having the ministries of justice, police affairs, foreign affairs, National Planning Commission, Water Resources, this is what the ministry of the interior was created for, geez, our leaders know nothing about structure in that country. The same goes for the states, i am an ekiti boy, can somebody please tell me what the difference is between Ondo state and Ekiti state (apart from there names) or the difference between Ebonyi state and Enugu state, yet they want to create another one despite the fact that the states are not working and there local govts. (don't even get me started on those ones) na wa o, i don tire. We need to make our institutions work by streamlining them and making them more efficient. |
all this goldman sachs boyz want to take over the world. |
We should issue bonds especially to the chinese and the arabs, they have money. |
i have two friend living in texas who speak hausa very well because there parents were missionaries in northern nigeria. |
It's really mind boggling!! We are still asking questions like " Should women be allowed to Vote, or even lead", "Who can rule this country?" " Can an Ibo/Ibibio/Efik/slowpoke rule this country", but none of the right questions. I am really terrified here. . . hard to imagine that things might never change for good in our lifetime, the way we, the people, continue to approach our problems in that continent. It is almost like we never learn, no matter what is thrown at us! AARRH!!!kobojunkie, you are sooooooooooooo right, i remember when i was in secondary and primary schools where the teachers used to ask us to debate topics like "are boys better than girls?" i still cringe when i think of our extremely passionate we were at debating those topics. |
what fashola is doing by destroying peoples houses and sheds is what buhari did in the 80's as part of aggressive modernization schemes and they didn't work, in fact, its because of that, that armed robbery started becoming an issue in Nigeria because if you take away somebody's house what else do you expect him to do? |
NONE. In fact, we should consolidate all the states back to 6 regions. |
WHAT KIND OF NONSENSE IS THIS?? HOW CAN THE LEADER OF THE FREE WORLD, THE MOST POWERFUL MAN IN THE WORLD HIMSELF BOW DOWN TO SOME KING IN SOME BACKWARDS COUNTRY THAT FLOGS OLD WOMEN FOR BEING IN THE SAME HOUSE WITH ANOTHER MAN. ABSOLUTE NONSENSE. IF JOHN McCAIN WERE PRESIDENT THIS KIND OF NONSENSE WOULD NEVER HAPPEN. WHAT A PR DISASTER. JUST WAIT TILL OIL PRICES GO UP AND SEE HOW THE REPUBLICANS WOULD ATTACK HIM IN THE MEDIA ESPECIALLY WHEN RE-ELECTION COMES. I CAN IMAGINE THE HEADING OF THE NEGATIVE AD "BARACK OBAMA IN THE HANDS OF THE SAUDI'S." COUPLED WITH A PICTURE OF HIM BOWING TO THE KING. On a side note i spoke to my saudi friend and she told that it is not there culture for anybody to bow down to the king as he is not God. |
what an extremely stupid topic. Being articulate has nothing to do with being smart. Geez, 50 cent, Ja Rule and co. can they speak proper english? (Ebonics doesn't count). By the way, English is not our mother tongue so what's the big deal? na inferiority complex dey worry all of una. Nonsense. |
its good to have a diversified economy, but if your economy is solely dependent on agriculture, then you risk ending up a banana republic like the carribean and south american countries. Agricultural products are susceptible to price fluctuations which could be dangerous for economies because unlike oil, agricultural products like palm oil don't have inelastic demand, in other words, if price increases people just jump ship to another products and when the govts cannot get enough revenue from agriculture to meet there obligations, they end up printing money which leads to inflation and leads the country to a vicious cycle of poverty. |

she should apply for a fulbright scholarship or a rhodes scholarship so that she can go to columbia university in new york or Harvard University instead of wasting her time in a nigerian school. |

Democracy is the worst form of government, except for all the others Winston Churchill |
@poster, How culture is different from Western culture where women shamelessly get drunk, throw up, and show there bossoms. Our women are more honorable and more classy. |
Wow, nice pictures. Its a pity that we did not build upon what the colonial masters did. I believe very strongly that if we did not 'throw' them out in 1960, we may be better off (structurally) than we are now.Are you kidding me? I would rather live in a country where the sky is the limit rather than live in a country where the limit is the sky. |
sammy, are you for real?? so you can't see it? |
