They talk of us having Jay-Z as our role models, who should we place there?? Fela . . . or maybe the artistes of their time that openly came out to praise thieves in power.
FELA IS A GREAT AMBASSADOR OF AFRICA. WHO IS ELDEE OR BANKY W.

WHAT IS SO DIFFICULT ABOUT MAKING A HIT IN NAIJA? Just sing in Yoruba mixed with English and get some producer to make a good beat then you have everybody in naija bowing at your feet.

ARE YOU SERIOUS, NOLLYWOOD AND BOLLYWOOD HAVE GIVEN HOLLYWOOD A RUN FOR THEIR MONEY? hOLLYWOOD MAKES MORE IN A YARE THAN BOLLY AND NOLLY COMBINED, INFACT HOLLYWOODS BIGGEST HIT FOR A YAER MAKES TEN TIMES MORE THAN ALL NOLLYWOOD FILMS OUT TOGETHER, SO DON'T THINK THAT HOLLYWOOD IS WORRIED ABOUT A SILLY RANKING, WHAT'S THIS PRIMARY SCHOOL?

AS PER YOUR NOLLYWOOD AND BOLLYWOOD COLLABO, GO COLLABO WITH SOUTH AFRICA FIRST. HOW MUCH DO YOU THINK YOU CAN PAY A BOLLY ACTOR WHEN THIER SALARY WILL MAKE 100 NOLLYWOOD FILMS.
Thank you o jare, you hit the message right on the head.

I believe that our diversity is what makes this country important, i hope that one day that naija does not just become one homogenous country but one with different people from different tribes and tongues, that's why we have to protect our languages from going extinct man.
CultureRe: Ugboha, Edo State. by davidif: 8:36am On Jun 24, 2009
no, i am actually yoruba but i am tired of hearing that Nigeria has over 250 tribes and yet the only ones i seem to have seen are only 5. Also, i really appreciate diversity. I would be interested in learning about our minority population because it is soooooo sad when i don't this people speaking there own languages publicly like we do.

aus123, wish u the best.

The name Engr. Abbas Hajaig may not ring a bell, but it should for the people of Jigawa Central Senatorial District. He was born in Nigeria, attended Birninkudu Central Primary School, Government Secondary School Birninkudu, Kaduna Polytechnic and then ABU Zaria before doing his NYSC in Calabar. Based on all of that, he deservedly felt very Nigerian and decided to run for Senate in 2007 under a PDP ticket. I do not know many people who can be more Nigerian than him but his white skin and Lebanese roots was sadly an instant minus for him.
i read about this guy.
PoliticsRe: Nigerians Are The Most Racist People In The World! by davidif: 5:44am On Jun 23, 2009
So? At least he wasn't killed like a Nigerian would have been if he were walking hand in hand with his Russian girlfriend in the middle of St. Petersburg.
blackspade,
we are not russians, we are nigerians, so we should not degrade ourselves to there level.  Anybody should be allowed to date whoever they feel like. Heck, Moses in the bible married a black woman (Numbers 12).

By the way, i am sure that not all Russians are racist.

Wait! still more, our Ambassador couldn't talk about the reforms going on in the banking industry, he doesn't know the diference between deposits and equity, recommend and nominate .
whizkid,
Newsflash: what does being an ambassador have to do with the banking industry? An ambassador might come from any background, they could be teachers, or doctors. There job is just to represent there nation. They don't need to be bankers or financial experts. Heck, anyone can be an ambassador.
PoliticsRe: Bauchi State Governor To Replace Charles Soludo As CBN Governor by davidif: 5:32am On Jun 23, 2009
mr. joshboy4lif
By the way sorry for the rude tone.

Last time i checked the US economy is waaaaaaaaaaaaay much bigger than your economy. 9/11 didn't happen in Canada, and the tech bubble also didn't take place in Canada so comparing both nations is like comparing apples and oranges.

Also, what is a recession? a recession is two consecutive quarters of negative economic growth. So what happens after one quarter of negative economic growth? you slash interest rates to prevent the economy from going into a recession and that's what we did, we had no choice. The slashing of interest rates and the Bush tax cuts is what got us of that severe slump we were in. Also, interest rates are not only used for fighting inflation but for staving off a recession. Look man, when our backs were against the wall, we did what we had to do.

Nice thinking! I always wonder why they can't really push hard to change that law.
I was reading an article where the Delta state Governor referred to plans for power generation from Delta State alone of 2500MW of electricity over the next 4 years.
According to what he said, funds were not a problem as, the state as well as willing investors are financially capable 2 handle it.
However, he referred to the success of the project being hinged on the FG's willingness to allow the state utilize the generated power for Delta state and sell the excess capacity to others. Problem is, the constitution doesn't allow!
Na wa o for this country. I still can't give up hope, there should be a way around this thing. Fashola or the gov. of Delta state can use there contacts like the vice president (who is from that region) or obasanjo to persuade congress. I believe that it can be done all fashola and the south south (or oil producing states) governors have to be willing to do is to go testify in front of congress that the law should be thrown away. In fact, the senators and house of reps members from the south south should initiate a bill like this. They should also see if they can get there fellow congress members from the south east and the south west to go along.

Another strategy would be to negotiate with the federal govt to repeal the whole dichotomy issue where the oil producing states get a majority of the oil funds each year in exchange for this states to own there own power plant because at the end of the day, these states can make up much more in revenue from having 24/7 electricity than getting a few extra millions from the govt for oil money allocation or what do you think. i sincerely believe that there has to be a way around this thing.

PoliticsRe: Bauchi State Governor To Replace Charles Soludo As CBN Governor by davidif: 12:42am On Jun 23, 2009
He is also the same idiot who reduced and subsequently increase interests rates and dilapidated the sub-prime mortgage market by allowing banks to invest huge amounts of of money in mortgage backed securities. If you want to talk about great bankers go no further than Canada's David Dodge.
What are you talking about?? The tech bubble (once called the mother of all bubbles) had just burst and we were in a recession, then came 9/11 so the next thing to do was lower interest rates which he did and it kickstarted a sucker rally in the economy. Geez, go and learn economics 101 abeg.
PoliticsRe: Nigerians Are The Most Racist People In The World! by davidif: 12:39am On Jun 23, 2009
I hope the story is a lie because i can't find a verified source. But i have heard of things like that, Nigerians seem to be extremely racist then they have the right to complain about oyinbo people. They are all hypocrites and disingenuous.

We are bunch of racist people . Triabilist and ethnic bigots. A lagosian mum would tell her son not to marry from Ijebu, an ijebu man will swear not to marry an egba woman both from within same state. An hausa man will fight a non hausa from plataeu state even here on NL. I never knew the level of tribalism among we youths until i started to visit NL 4 year ago. Its just a shame its so common within we youths the futre generation.
Lagosboy, you hit the message right on the head, you would think that our generation would be more enlightened than our parents. Chai, o ma se o.
PoliticsRe: Bayelsa Development (pictures) by davidif: 12:31am On Jun 23, 2009
But Fashola is a lawyer can't he find some of the best lawyers in the country to find a loophole in the constitution because i know the guys who drafted that part of the constitution were probably not the brightest for coming up with something like that. This is what lawyers do, they find a way around the rules or come up with something creative to beat the rules. I mean where there is a will there is a way.

For example, he can get a couple of private investors preferably from overseas (maybe the US or Dubai) to build a power plant in Benin republic to provide Lagos with electricity. This should work afterall Benin republic is a sovereign nation and the nigerian courts have no jurisdiction on the country. Trust me there has to be ton of ways to get past that part of the constitution.

If all else fails and he can't find a way around that stipulation then can't he seriously lobby the president or use his contacts like Tinubu to encourage the house to overturn something this foolish. And if that still doesn't work, then he can go on public crusade in front of the media explaining this problem so that congress would be pressured to overturn the law. We can't have socialized power generation.

Now i know why NEPA doesn't work, you have this large inefficient structure and an overbloated bureaucracy trying to administer it.

But Alan Greenspan IS incompetent.
ibime,
What do you know about finance or economics. Please stop making dumb comments. In case you didn't know Alan Greenspan is one of the greatest central bankers in history, up there with paul volcker and co. The man left us so many innovative tools to solve the banking crisis that we are in right now. So please BE QUIET.
