PoliticsRe: Eko Atlantic Is This For Real? by davidif: 7:27am On Mar 09, 2009
MP007,
Look what Fashola is doing is wrong it is an example of putting the carriage before the horse. Its not the govts job to create wealth and build skyscrapers (business district or whatever they call it) hoping that rich westerners would come there, this is what happened in Thailand and other Asian countries and it failed. Go to Thailand and you would see empty skyscrapers. What happens when demand is a lot less than supply then? My friend in Dubai said the real estate bubble in Dubai just busted. This guys were doing the same thing that Fashola is now doing and guess what? all those skyscrapers they kept building nobody is leaving in it. Its the job of the govt to facilitate the creation of wealth by providing basic public goods like constant power supply, a sophisticated transportation network to boost commerce, and creating a well educated labor market which this guy is not doing. We can't become like America overnight. Fashola should have a bottom up approach by focussing on basic projects to boost the standard of living of people like access to clean water, rural development through agriculture and the electrification of the rural areas so as to provide so as to boost the standard of living of the people. It is all this factors that lead to a rich country. What is the purpose of building shiny skyscrapers when you have street hawkers begging foreigners with suits and ties to buy pure water or Nupe traders selling "guguru and epa" on the street next to a business executive in a maybach. This is the same problem in South Africa, the country might have a high GDP what is the PCI (per capita income)? With all there skyscrapers, you have the highest crime rate in the world because of people who move from rural areas to the city and wind up living in ghettos and because of lack of opportunity start committing crimes. Let's not jump the gun here by going ahead of ourselves instead of focusing on the things that matter the most, the average citizen and NOT the foreign investors or the elites and the nigerians coming back from abroad.
The govt should leave the building of the skyscrapers to the private sector and focus on our pathetic public school system. All it costs to have a world class medical school is $120 million dollars (20 for faculty and 100 for the facility). This would cost a lot less in Nigeria because of lower labor costs and permits cost. A world class engineering college costs less than that but i don't see Fashola focusing on that. He is focusing on planting flowers instead, you can put a make up on a burned victim but you still cannot hide the scars. You can build all the houses in Lagos all you want but what's the need when nobody can afford it.

the man was definitely a visionary, imagine free education and free healthcare in the 50's? a lot of western countries hadn't even started that yet, the man was waaaaaaaaaaaaay ahead of his time.

I know someone here in yanki whose parents were able to go to school as a result of this man's policies, may his soul rest in peace for what his contributions to humanity.

Nairaland GeneralRe: Why Are Nigerian Men Generally Small Compared To Others? by davidif: 8:54am On Mar 06, 2009
when you said small, i thought you meant something else he he.

By the way, to answer your question, in Texas, we have this saying that in God we trust, others bring data. Which means that before you make an assertion, please back it up with numbers or hard data. Show me some data of height comparison of this countries you have spoken about, because all the ivoriens and camerounians you have seen are all big does not mean all of them are (geez, i don't need to be telling you this, you are an adult and should be smart enough not to be making this kinds of assertions). For example, one of my friends from honduras used to say that all nigerians are big simply because all the ones he met are big, i just used to chuckle to myself that if only he knew. My current roomate also has the same stereotype of africans simply because most black people he has seen are big, i had to set him straight. Your assertion could probably be true because most of the africans you see here are from aristocratic families and therefore are well fed so you are talking about the real cream of the crop.

In fact, i am going to stop arguing about this nonsense, just typing it makes me feel i am educating a toddler. Geez, i just can't believe that i just wasted 10 minutes of my life not only reading this thread, but responding to it, i just feel dumb.
PoliticsRe: Has Anybody Considered Ojo Madueke For President. by davidif: 8:15am On Mar 06, 2009
flegflu, politics is about public service, you do it because you want to serve and help people. Politics should never be a business where people are out for themselves or to make money. If you want to make money, then go to the private sector my friend where the money is much better. But if you are the type that does not care about money but just wants to make a difference in peoples lives and in the community all while being paid just a marginal salary then politics is for you.
PoliticsRe: Has Anybody Considered Ojo Madueke For President. by davidif: 11:09pm On Mar 05, 2009
i don't care if he is ibo or not all i care is if he has INTEGRITY and if HE IS COMPETENT.
PoliticsRe: Senators, Representatives And Academic Qualifications. by davidif: 11:04pm On Mar 05, 2009
Go to all American business schools today,MOST of the students there are not Americans( majority of them are foreigners-africans , indians, asians, arabs), it is that way also in england. They KEEP manipulating  the media on how highly regarded the qualifications from these schs are- but there citizens dont attend them. Have u ever ask your self the question why. But yet these same citizens runs wall street, runs hollywoods, manage all those blockbusters movies on Tv. You think steven spieberg hav a PHD.
fegflu, i would pretend that i didn't just read what you wrote  shocked but are you kidding me? I don't know where to start, but your first statement that in all American business schools most students are not americans is the biggest lie ever. In all the best schools in America over 90% of the students are Americans especially in undergrad where at least over 96% of American students make up the student population so stop talking nonsense. By the way, just to inform you, there are very very few africans in schools in America, statistics back it up that we are less than 1% so stop decieving yourselves. In my school of over 20,000 there is just around 60 africans in the entire school that's less than 0.003% of the population and just 2% of the foreign student population so stop working with conjecture boy.

Also, have you seen Barack Obama's cabinet? Almost everybody there has degrees from an Ivy league schools like MIT, Harvard, Dartmouth, London School of Economics and the university of California, berkeley and not only are this people some of the most intelligent people in america but they are also very very pragmatic (practical) with lots of experience and have a lot of integrity (unlike Bankole). Let me put it simply, there are some jobs that you don't need to have a PhD for (movie director) and there are some jobs that you do need a PhD for (chairman of the federal reserve). Also, most CEO's do have degree's, because guys like warren buffet and bill gates don't does not mean that the remaining 98% do not. Now to answer your question, YOU DO NEED QUALIFICATIONS FOR ANY JOB YOU ARE ABOUT TO EMBARK ON. It might not be academic qualifications but you do need to be qualified for it so as to prevent incompetence.

In America, almost everybody (if not all) in the senate have a law degree, in fact in the last congress, there was only one engineer (john sununu of new hampshire), this is one of the reasons why there govt works so well because who best to legislate things or conduct investigations (which lawyers are good at) than very brilliant lawyers who have a wide knowledge about a lot of things. Also, not only do this guys legislate, but each committee has monthly hearing on certain things. For example, the senate subcomittee on transportation has hearings or investigations on ongoing federal projects are how the projects are going, where the money is going, and what other issues surrounding the projects there are. This prevents people from not only embezzling the money but it also prevents incompetence because the senate has a watchful eye on you.

PoliticsRe: Eko Atlantic Is This For Real? by davidif: 8:25am On Mar 04, 2009
This shows the man's INCOMPETENCE. 80% of lagosians live below $1.00 a day and Fashola is busy building houses and planting trees. Don't this people realize that its not the govts job to create wealth( that's the job of the private sector) but to facilitate the growth of wealth by providing public goods like a great transportation infrastructure like roads, railways et. al to allow for the flow of goods from place to place, a free world class educational system so as to have a competent and educated labor market, constant power supply to facilitate industrialization, and security (from robbers and the rest).
Lagos has one of the worst public school systems in Nigeria, the universities are incredibly pathetic  and the standard of living in the rural areas is a lot worse meanwhile lots of nigerians who are used to such awful leadership praise him, its like the one eyed man in the land of the blind. It seems to me that if a leader gets a grade of D for performance we hail him as a hero forgetting the fact that D is still a failing grade. The man is skipping basic projects that lagos needs like Education, Constant power supply, electricity and agriculture to help people in the rural areas. Lagos is HUGELY POPULATED which is a plus if the standard of living was much higher. Can anyone imagine how much better lagos would be if everybody was well educated (i don't mean the nonsense education we get in naija universities) it would have higher standards of living compared to NYC or Chicago.
The man needs to understand that in order to develop lagos he needs to invest in  people and there lives by giving them quality education (not that yeye school they call unilag), quality healthcare instead the man destroys peoples house assuming that they have places to move to and this are the downtrodden and poorest in our society that even God has called us to protect meanwhile fashola is destroying there houses.

Matthew 25:33-46
And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left.

Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:

For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in:

Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me.

Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink?

When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee?

Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee?

And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.

Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:

For I was an hungred, and ye gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink:

I was a stranger, and ye took me not in: naked, and ye clothed me not: sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not.

Then shall they also answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee?

Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me.

And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.

PoliticsRe: Bauchi State Governor To Replace Charles Soludo As CBN Governor by davidif: 9:23am On Mar 02, 2009
st. funmi, alan greenspan is not the fed chairman, he has been retired for 2 years now. Nigeria's problem is a lot easier to solve than America's problems. Inflation is caused by excess money supply in the economy, yet mr. soludo was still printing money.

By the way, in case nobody ever told you, alan greenspan actually caused America's problems because in 2000 he lowered interest rates to solve the economic crisis when the tech bubble burst.

Somebody please tell Mugabe to stop printing money!!! Inflation is caused by excess money supply in the economy, in other words too mcuh money chasing too few goods. Simple as that. Mugabe should also tell the treasurer to start buying back all the excess currency floating around.

NEPOTISM AT ITS FINEST.

By the way, why didn't Soludo recruit some of the best economics or finance students and send them abroad to get there phD's in world class schools like MIT, Caltech, Stanford, Harvard, Columbia, Princeton, Yale, University of Chicago, Oxford, Cambridge, London School of Economics et al. This kids having been thought by the best and the brightest teachers in the world of finance and economics would now come home and become future policy makers. Most of the US economic policy makers were thought in either one of this schools. The central bank of Nigeria should have given scholarships to any student who gets into anyone of this programs so that they would come back to be teachers in our universities and economic policy makers. Unfortunately, Mr. Charles Soludo didn't do it, now we are stock with a shaky financial system and a possible new comer who probably knows nothing about finance, what a shame.
