Family › Re: I Need Advice, Please by dawnomike(m): 6:29am On Nov 10, 2023 |
PesinPikin84: Apologies for the long post. I need advice, please.
I am asking for advice on a family situation I am having now. I am a resident physician in the U.S. and currently in training. My husband is also a physician and is applying for training in the country I am at. He is unlikely to get a position in the same state I am in because my hospital's program is very competitive. He has worked very hard to come to be in the U.S. but his journey has not been smooth. Not too long ago, I made an agreement with him that if the U.S. does not work for him, I will finish my residency training then follow him to whatever country he decides to relocate to. I have always wanted to subspecialize, and I mentioned that I will do the subspecialty training in whatever country he is. By God's grace he will get a residency training position soon, but it will not be in the same state where my training is now.
We were having a conversation today and I mentioned that I will do everything in my power to get subspecialty training in the state he gets placement, but if I don't then I will do my one year subspecialty training anywhere I get in the U.S., then come back to wherever he is to work. He is now saying that I am going against our agreement of following him wherever he goes and bringing in the technicality that my subspecialty training is just one year. Throughout our relationship even before marriage, I have always felt like I had to prove that my family will be above my career. He brought up a fight we had when we were engaged and he was having challenges coming into the U.S. I mentioned that I really want to train in the U.S., and that I will not marry him if I don't fulfill this dream. I took his continuing with the marriage as him understanding my position about the direction I wanted my life to go, but it was after the marriage that I learned that he took it to mean that I love my career more than him or raising a family. As God will have it, he is now finally in the U.S. with me and pursuing his own dream to train here too, even thought things have not been easy.
I love my job and I want to be good at it. I don't believe that choosing to finish my training is putting my career above my family. I even told him that if I was thinking about career, then I will be thinking of the reputation of where I will do my subspecialty training over first working towards wherever he is. He said that my insisting on subspecialty training against our earlier agreement shows why he does not trust me that my family is first. The funny thing is that it is unlikely for me not to get a subspecialty position wherever he ends up in his training. My subspecialty is not something a lot of people pursue, so there are always more positions than applicants, but that is the field I love. I feel like I always have to prove myself that I am trustworthy whenever any issue comes up about my job. He is insisting that if family was truly first, then I would never even consider applying to anywhere that will not be close to him. I sincerely want people's opinions because I feel that he does not trust my loyalty to building a family. We don't yet have children but I fear that this talk about my career vs family will always be an issue when we do. We have been married for a year and half now. I see it as just one year of training for something I really want to do, and that it is not against the initial agreement of following him to whatever country or place he is. He says I am adding something we did not talk about and changing the agreement. Am I overthinking things and am I being selfish? Please, what are people's thoughts on this matter? It is a dicey family issue that requires wisdom. Beg him to see your point of view cos your career is also important. |

Business › Re: What Can One Invest In Instead Of Keeping Money In Bank To Avoid Depreciation? by dawnomike(m): 4:36pm On Nov 09, 2023 |
MrEverest: What can one invest in to hedge his funds against expected crash of the naira in the near future? Naira is currently swinging like a yo-yo, despite the billions of dollars that was borrowed by Tinubu to prop it. Also, it's only a matter of time before the propaganda wears out and the depreciation will commence.
Any economist or one with common sense already knows that value of currency is determined by balance of payments transactions in global trading. Our exports against imports is what will determine the true value of naira. Unfortunately, the potential for us to attract FDI or retain existing production capacity is low.
So, what can one invest in, that can be quickly reconverted to cash once need arises? Gold |

I need help please I'm married, my wife works in a bank. She has an HND degree (polytechnic) from banking and finance.
Lately we have been thinking of relocation to Canada (perhaps through school route)
Our budget is around 7-9 million
Please, we need help with schools that the tuition fees is very affordable.
In that she would be the first to go since I'm raising most of the money (because my own job pays a lot higher) and when all the fees is settled, I hope to join her
Please I need help with school recommendation (based on her course of study and the program we need to apply for)
I honestly do not mind the program cuz the sole aim is to Japa
A course program that's in a good place where we can see a job in a good period of time and start from where we are to where we would need to be via working hard
Please help. I'm open to questions
Thanks It aldeends o her professional background. Academic background and hat she wishes to study... Since she finshed from a polytechnic, a one year postgraduate certificate programme is what she should opt for. What is her HND grade? |

Family › Re: Am I Insane ? I'm Emotionally Drained by dawnomike(m): 8:23pm On Nov 04, 2023 |
Asxasa: I don't even know where to start from.
Maybe i should start from the fact that am a 26yrs old orphan. I lived alone in Abuja for almost a year now. My childhood was filled with trauma inflicted on me by my family(step sisters) and a consistent accusation that i am a witch.
Before now, i was living in Delta State, in a school environment with a girl that was also an orphan. Things were very difficult for us and i was expecting her to stand strong. Considering that he met me when i was financially large. This lady was living a carefree life with anything with manhood. It became very unbearable for me because i truly liked her. Later on, she left me and then i realised she never loved me and was there for the money. How did i find out ? Her telegram was on my phone and the day she got a new phone, she registered a new telegram that prompted chats from numerous guys, i studied the chat and realised he was even in serious relationship with most of them than me.
This lamentation is very shameful though but am bittered and down.
I was able to avoid Delta State and relocated to Abuja. I was living well apparently. Then a lady came, she claimed to loved me and this is her coming strong to my face to profess love while i was utterly confused. I didn't date her but we had flings and she was coming almost everyday. She was not taking dime from me. So oneday, i was very happy, huge money came in and i called her and transfered money to her to make her hair. This is where the problem started.
She got the money and her character changed. Her voice was no longer sweet but wild. She even had her friend coming to me like a dummy. Turned out she is having more than 10 boyfriends already according to her friend.
I got really angry and deleted her number. I wanted to forget her altogether but then i realised i was already attached to her somehow. It was difficult but i decided to persevere. The next day, she called me again to check up on me, it was brief and then i started calling her again although it was brief.
She has changed completely. Just this evening she played me for a fool. Coming to my place with her friend unannounced and claiming to lost money and i should transfer to her. I got very angry and had to resort to violence to send them both away.
I'm lonely and feel useless. Yesterday i was reminded that i have no one in this world. If anything should happen, i would have no one to call. If i have an accident, no one to call. Am all alone with no friends, no family and no happiness. And whenever i try to make a woman part of my life, she ends up hurting me.
Due to depression, i take tramadol to forget my past and forget facts about my life. I consume this drug everyday and it a lot of money. My daily expenses has gone up to 9k to 15k everyday even if i don't leave the house. You need to engage your mind in a busy job or business. stunnert: So there is this guy whose store is close to my house, he usually comes around to fetch drinking water in my compound. We got along fine and I took him as my street junior bro ( He's married and I ain't )
Today he came around looking so dull and disturbed, I called him upstairs and asked what was wrong ( thinking it's issues with his biz ). With tears in his eyes he told me
He had woken up that morning without a single cash in his pocket and he had to get to the store in time. My guy asked his wife to pls assist him with Tfare, in which she swore that she has no cash with him but she will borrow from her friend who sells stuffs in the next compound.
She left for the next compound and didn't return for almost ten minutes before my guy decided to go check on her only to find her coming back inside without any cash in hand. With a worried look he asked her 'where is the money' only for her to reply that the money is inside their bed room which both of 'em just stepped out from
In total shock and disappointment he watched her go to her closet and brought out an empty shoe box in which she brought out a 500 naira note with more still in the box
I was short of words when he finished with '' bros how could she do that to me when I spend all my money on her and our daughter" She still gave him the money right? EOD |

lalalista: I wake up each morning with sadness. My life has no bearing. I begin to question myself that what is my purpose in this life. Waking up in the morning and not having where to go. No job, no business, no husband. Ever since I lost my job 6 months ago it has been like this. I was able to save some little change from my previous job. I live in a comfortable apartment. Feeding is not my problem. I have everything I need. There's always light, pay TV is subscribed, refrigerator stocked with food, I have a loving and caring fiance but I still feel empty. I think of starting a business but I'm scared it might not be a success because of the Nigerian economy, this is not a time to loose any funds. I feel so empty. I don't even have friends here . All my friends traveled out of the country. I feel so empty. I'm not even interested in myself any more. I can't remember when last I did shopping for myself. I've not made my hair for 3 months. Staying indoors daily is killing me and I don't even know what to do about it. As each new day starts I don't even have direction of how the day will be. I feel so unproductive. I've been applying and the job isn't forth coming. I just feel like pouring out my heart here I'm building a team for a new startup. The interview is ending if this month. Athena6: Last week I created a thread talking about how my japa plans have been crushed due to the increase in dollar.
Many adviced me to invest in dollar, this was the advice they gave me months ago but I did follow through because I wasn't sure. My last thread hit front page and 90% of the comments were advising me to invest in dollars, one even quoted that in the past 10 years, the dollar haven't fallen but it increases every year.
One even called me a weak minded person and I am scared to take risks. After everything I thought to myself, since so many people felt this dollar will keep on rising, maybe I should invest afterall life is all about risks.
Well guess what, dollar have decreased, I invested 3M in buying dollars and now in today exchange rate. I have 2.6M now and I either cash out now or hope it will increase.
Right now, I am very angry. Those giving me advice should come and contribute the 400k for me o
Another thing, do you think the dollar will increase or should I just cut my loses. I am so tired 😫

junketer: I read in the Rwanda thread about how Nigerians and other nationals will turn Rwanda to shythole but i beg to differ. Do you know the number one reason why people become illegal immigrant? Because if they leave the country they travelled to they might never come back. If it's visa free to go to rwanda then there is no reason to go become illegal immigrant because you will go back there if you want to, just buy a plane ticket...finish. If south africa for example will make it visa free for all africans to visit then there will be no need for that african to overstay. Go there, do your thing, leave. Simple. The allure to stay there will be removed. My 2 cents though. I see great sense in your point. |
