idupaul: My friend was discombobulated. During an interview with Nigeria's embattled aviation minister, Ms. Stella Oduah, a journalist asked if she was concerned that critics were raising issues about the remodelling of airports she was doing. Oduah flared up: "Who the Bleep are they? Who the Bleep!" By the time Joe Obi, the minister's aide began pleading with journalists not use the word "Bleep" in their reports, the damage had been done. When Oduah later said that an accident is "an act of God", my friend was not surprised. He had known the woman for long. Now, she says: "You know they hate me because I'm an Igbo woman!" So we dare say: "What the Bleep has tribe got to do with theft, corruption and mismanagement? What the Bleep has being an Igbo woman got to do with inflated cars that are nowhere to be found?

airedales: Veteran actor, Jide Kosoko, last Friday morning, October 11th, 2013, confirmed to Nollywood Insider that he was actually assaulted and injured in the fracas involving members of the Video Rental Operators of Nigeria (VROAN) and some Yoruba movie makers and marketers. The ace thespian said, “I was injured in the debacle but I would not like to comment further on it on the telephone.” Continue After The Break.................
Meanwhile the President of VROAN, Kassim Olatunbosun aka Boe, has been declared wanted by his members and the police. He is accused of wanton embezzlement of public funds at his disposal. Kassim is said to have mismanaged the royalties for marketers and film producers that his members paid into the coffers of VROAN over the last two years. They also claimed that he refused to call for elections after staying in office for more than 10 years.According to information made known to NOLLYWOOD INSIDER, after a long meeting at the Cultural Center, Alausa, Ikeja, on Thursday October 10th, 2013, by his members and other concerned stakeholders, the enraged crowd besieged his Onipanu office calling on him to render account of his stewardship as VROAN's henchman. However, on sighting the crowd while he was having his weekly meeting with executives of the association, Kassim managed to scale over a high fence into oblivion. This was after Jide Kosoko and a few others had sustained injuries during a fight to apprehend Kassim.
Jide Kosoko spoke further on the incident, “Actually, I am a member of the Board of Trustees of VROAN, and we had been getting several reports that the president of the association, Kassim aka Boe, has been in the office for close to 10 years. We have received several complaints that his tenure has since lapsed, and that there should have been an election, but he insisted on staying. This is coupled with other atrocities of his, so the BOT had to invite him, but he refused to come to any of the meetings on several occasions. He goes about with thugs with dangerous weapons, most of whom are not owners of video clubs.
''When his members wanted to make trouble with him, we said no that they should leave the matter to us, the BOT. I advised him personally, but he refused to yield to advice. He then wrote a letter saying he will hold elections in December which angered his members. The BOT then took some policemen to his office, only for us to get there and find thugs all over the place. They thereafter got violent with us, and one of them threw a bottle of water at me; using charms to threaten us.”
Meanwhile, JideKosoko disclosed that the matter is now with the Nigerian Police Zone 2, Lagos.

Hopes for improved power supply in the country have been rekindled as Olorunsogo is set to generate 250mw of electricity to the national grid.
The first phase of the Olorunsogo Power plant, which was among the three gas-fired plants built by the administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo was to generate 304MW of electricity. But the plant has been out of operation since 2007, due to lack of gas supply.
However, THISDAY learnt last weekend that the faulty units in the plants have been rehabilitated, while plans are being put in place for the supply of gas to the power station. It was learnt that work is in progress for the completion of the phase two of the thermal station, which is expected to add 750mw to the national grid.
The Obasanjo administration had planned to complete the phase two of the power station at a cost of $449 million, as government was poised to raise power generation to 10, 000mw by the end of 2007. However, due to gas constraints, most of the power stations operated far below their installed capacities, while others were completely shut.
Information obtained by THISDAY showed that the 414 capacity Geregu Power station, could only generate about 100mw due to gas shortage. The plant, according to the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) sources, requires 92mmscf/d. Similarly, Omotosho power plant, with capacity to generate 304mw, could generate only 39mw but requires 75mmscf/d. The three power plants - Geregu, Omotosho and Olorunsogo, were built in the twilight of the Obasanjo administration. Rekindling hopes of improved power supply from the thermal stations, Managing Director of National Integrated Power Project (NIPP), Mr. James Olotu, disclosed that at least two units of the Olorunsogo plant, are expected to add about 250 mw, while another 500mw will come from the Alaoji and Sapele power stations respectively.
‘We are expecting that by the end of this year, Olorunsogo (Papalanto) will give us at least two units before December, which will give us about 250 mw, Alaoji Power plant is expected to give us at least one or two units, which will be another 250mw, two units from Sapele, which will give us another 250mw and the sum of these is about 750mw to be added to the national grid,” he had said. The Executive Director, Operations, PHCN, Mr. John Ayodele, revealed recently that in addition to the 230 million standard cubic feet of gas per day (mmscf/d) received, additional 600mmscf of gas daily is needed to power the gas turbine stations. What we have in the South East are organised people working under the auspices of transport or trade unions such as the NURTW etc. And they are mostly confined to the parks. You won't see them blocking major roads with barricades and throwing sticks and stones to commercial motorists who dare not part with ordinary N50 so please get your facts right! |

ol2012: Dear All, I while I appreciate all comments so far, I do not want us to turn this into another tribal/political e-ground(as some comments are already trying to) The import of this thread essentially, is to come up with ideas on how to stop this menace. I strongly believe there should be a way to achieve this. My brother, the menance can never be stopped! As far as APC and people like Tinubu are concerned! It's like trying to say you want to stop the playing of bagpipes and skirt-wearing by men in Scotland! Toutism has always been a norm in SW and it will continue to thrive esp in Lagos where they will be used as foot soldiers for 2015 elections. The only starting point to drastically reduce the menance is to refuse to vote for APC during the gubernetorial elections which will be hard for an average yoruba man to do! Yorubaland has been brainwashed by APC that they can never see anything wrong in voting for them so guys...enjoy "Tout Air" in Lagos while we enjoy "Fresh Air" up here. Ife onye choro ka o ga afu! |

Na this same Nairaland we dey again oooo........una don dey condemn Agberos. If and If Fashola drives out Agbero in the future and I see any thread condemning the move on frontpage. Well I won't be surprised! Nigerians/Nairalanders are; hypocrites, sadists AND confused lots who don't know what they want, what is right or what they actually want from their Government. smh. There is no correlation between Agberos (Touts) people who rob motorists in broad-day light and terrorise commuters and Okada riders who offer transportation services to people for ease of movement! One of the major reasons okada was banned was because majority of the cyclists were ibos. Yoruba man no fit do okada for im life! We know them very well! They don't like hardwork like the Ibos and Edo people. They prefer extortion jobs. The policies of LASG are anti-ibo policies. If the agberos in Lagos were to be ibos, fowlshola would have ordered a "shoot-at-sight" with the Lagos state police force. And yet these are the people who want to rule Nigeria! God forbid!! The last time i checked, Fresh Air is better than Ewedu and amala Air!! |
Nairaland General › Re: Will Lagos Roads Ever Be Agbero Free Again? by Decryptor(m): 10:59am On Oct 20, 2013 |
Boss13: When Fashola declared that he would transform Lagos to a mega city, I could not hide my joy because my belief was that these area boys will be chased off the street. However, this is not the case. The number of area boys has increased exponentially, the menace they create on a daily basis is absurd and the ever working barking governor has turned blind and deaf towards eradicating these nuisance off our streets. Why won't the number of Agberos increase? When the dullard governor is busy chasing out Ibos who are legally working to earn a living there in Lagos. They are his boys and are taking after Tinubu whom i learn was also a tout during his young days...Remember APC means Agbero Peoples Party . Secondly, toutism is a way of life in yoruba land. An average yoruba man has a tint of agberoism in his blood whether educated or not! Now I begin to wonder, what kind of mega city is the governor trying to create - one with potential criminals on the roads? What are the economic and social benefits in having miscreants on our roads? Let me answer the bolded... Economic Benefits: To enhance the GDP of Lagos since some bone-heads in this forum don't agree that investments of the people from the SE has anything to do with boosting the Lagos economy. Where do you think the bulk of the money used in building "Eko Alantick" came from? That's why the touts are increasing more and more! And to add, the reason why a yoruba man was imposed as the head of Ladipo market so as to task the ibo traders there to add to the funds. Secondly, the proceeds which the touts collect are used to fund the activities of APC in lagos state. Social Benefits: These touts are his foot soldiers for the up-coming elections in Lagos state. They will be used to enforce strict adherence to a "Vote for APC" election policy in Lagos in particular and SW in general. Why is Fashola not doing anything about it and does he intend to blame the FG for area boys? Why would he do anything about it? His mentor and predecessor (Tinubu) is a political tout and so is he! On blaming the FG for the touts in his own state goes a long way to show how demented and senile the man is. He blames the Ibos for all the problems Lagos has...why won't he blame the FG for agberos? Someone who talked about people kissing on television in a public gathering? What more do you expect? These boys have no business with our roads. If their aim is to collect levies, there are a thousand and one ways to get these levies. Abeg, you wan spoil market for these boys who refuse to go to school but rather make money in crude ways such as Agbero and Omoile? People like Bluetooth, dayokanu, geeez etc who are also touts in Nairaland? They have nothing else to do! They can't read and write or engage in any form of trade. So just let them be for now! |
