There is no amount of grammar or the sloganneering of Eko oni baje ooo that will wish away the express provisions of section 8(3)(5)(6) of 1999 constitution which requires the national assembly to enact a constitutional amendment Act  making consequential provisions for the names and headquarters of the new LGAs in part 1 and II of the first schedule to the 1999 constitution. The earlier Fashola comes to terms with this fact, the better for Lagosians.

Both Fashola, AC and LASG are wrong on this issue. if there is any common thread that laces both letters , it is the admission that the supreme court ruled that the process of creating new local governments is incomplete without an Act by the National Assembly ammending PART 1 of the FIRST shedule of the 1999 constitution to accomodate such newly created Lga's. There is no halfway measure. until the National Assembly performs its consequential role, the process of creating new LGA''s cannot by any stretch of law be deemed to be completed. The constitution does not recognise the entities referred to as LCDAS. there is nothing like onigbongbo LCDA listed in the first shedule to the 1999 constitution.The ensuing debate is unnecessary and diversionary . Yar'Adua didnt need to issue ultimatums for the enforcement of a clear court order. The AGF should set the machinery in motion for an immediate compliance to the apex court's order. A govt that observes the rule of law should not be seen exchanging words in public with a recalcitrant federating unit.

I am from Abia state and its evident that kalu does not command the big political stature you have laboured so hard to ascribe to him on this thread. I understand that the conspiracy of April 14th 2007 between a compromised Inec REC and kalu which produced the orji led ppa administration in Abia state, has sustained the erroneous impression that kalu is the lord of Abia politics. However, it may interest you to know that PDP won two(2) out of the three(3) senatorial seats in Abia. while Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe( PDP, Abia south) defeated Hon. Acho Nwakanma (who was then the incumbent deputy governor to kalu and ppa flagbearer); senator NkechiNwaogu(pdp, Abia central) humiliated Chris Adighije( PPA senatorial candidate and kalu's loyalist). it was only Senator Uche Chukwumerije(PPA, Abia north) that survived the PDP onslaught. it may also interest you to know that PDP won six(6) out of the eight( house of reps seats in Abia.The shameful side of the story which kalu hides from the public is that his party(PPA) Lost in his native Bende Lga. The member representing kalu's constituency is from PDP. Apart from Ekiti state, there is no other house of Assembly in Nigeria where the opposition has a strong presence than in Abia state( PDP has 10 as against PPA's 14 and the equation may change when the court of appeal is through). Finally, the presence of Governor Orji of Abia in ohakim's defection ceremony should be a food for thought to you.

fine observation. but i urge you to remember that rome was not built in a day.abuja is no fraud. the city rather symbolizes our consious effort to have a beffiting capital territory. we are not there yet. thats why you still see massive construction work going on daily. the slums you mentioned are home to the gwari indegenes and will be developed accordingly when the indigenes are relocated to a settlment which is under construction. the traffic situation at kubwa and nyanya roads will be history upon the completion of the 10 lane project. The govt is also consious of the absence of some other amenities that will make abuja a world class city but cannot continue to invest in abuja at the expense of other states and the niger delta. its one step at a time.

Imo state is and has always been a PDP state. PDP won all the  Assembly, House of reps and senatorial seats in the state. ohakim was a member of PDP. His affair with ppa was borne out of the consensus by pdp stakeholders to stop Ararume, whom the supreme court imposed on the party. thats why obasanjo said its a promise fulfilled. PPA has no stake in Imo politics and orji kalu knows.

He, however, warned that the party is a family of large members with advantages and disadvantages, stating that the advantages outweigh the disadvantages.

i think we all should concentrate on making it like dangote,than engage in idle gossip.he has made it big and no one can change that.unless you are otedola's apologists.

An accountant or doctor can buy a jet depending on his place of work.  A consultant with any of the oil companies can afford it. these guys are paid in dollars.i know of a consultant ophtalmologist with unicef who earns $45,000 dollars a month in addition to other mouthwatering allowances.

you failed woefully to explain how the PDP victory in IBEJU/LEKKI was obtained by fraud. i would have also been happy to see evidence of how obasanjo's and yar'Adua's elections were rigged. the moment you learn to appreciate the fact that every party in Nigeria has its own fair share of corrupt politicians, the more you will become objective in your comments.

there we go again with our hypocrisy. why is it that whenever PDP wins we attribute it to rigging. all the elections in Lagos so far has been described as credible till it produed an unfavourable outcome to AC. let Tinubu and AC accept defeat for once.

PDP Wins Ibeju-Lekki Re-run Poll

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Okanlawon Soniyi of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) winner of Saturday's re-run election in Ibeju-Lekki Federal Constituency of Lagos State.

Soniyi reportedly garnered 8,005 votes, while second-placed Adewale Eletu of the Alliance for Democracy (AD) polled 6,867.

The Action Congress (AC) did not contest the polls.

Appraising the conduct of the election, the PDP, through its state Publicity Secretary, Wale Ahmed, said the election was free and fair except for incidence of ballot box snatching allegedly by AD supporters in some places he considered as PDP stronghold.

Lagos State chairman of AD, Raji Lateef, who was beaten up by thugs while monitoring the voting process, counter-alleged that the hoodlums on ballot-snatching spree were members of the PDP.

The AD has written a petition requesting to the INEC not to accept any results from units where ballots boxes were snatched.

The re-run election held in 11 wards of Ibeju-Lekki was marred by ballot snatching and shooting by hoodlums bent on disrupting the peaceful conduct of the election. Ballot boxes in polling unit 003 and 004 of Isiriwon/Igbekedo ward were snatched by thugs.

The turn-out as observed in some of the polling was poor. There were no elections in some polling centres, while the security situation was tense.

Public Relation Officer of the Lagos State Police Command, Frank Mba, said however that more than enough police personnel were deployed to the various polling units.

Also, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Moses Ogbe, said he was impressed that election material arrived early at the various polling units. He promised to look into areas where some form of malpractices occurred.

"Our preparations were in order as at this morning (Saturday). By 6 a.m., we had already got all our materials from the divisional office to this place. And I think the last vehicle that left here was around 7.30. Materials got to the various polling stations on time.

I know a strong tendency exist for every nigerian to cry foul of such purchases given the love our politicians have for corruption. however, we will miss the point if we fail to analyze each case on its own merits. it may interest us to know that Hon. Ibn Na'Allah is a very succesful lawyer in NIGERIA. He featured prominently during the oputa panel. he has been a vocal member of the opposition in the house of Reps. he was also at the vanguard of the struggle against 3rd term. He hails from a royal family in kebbi. it is against this background that i ask for us to think before posting. we have not bothered to know the details of his assets declaration which is definitely in excess of five hundred million naira (the plane is valued at less than 50million). A customized hummer,maybach, bentley (the type that we see regularly on the streets of lagos and abuja) cost more.

The comments of nairalanders on this issue have so far proceeded on the faulty assumption that all legislators are poor before they assumed office. The truth is that there are some legislators who could afford to buy a boeing 747 aircraft before they came into office. Before we criticize and label Ibn Nallah a rogue, we must take consious effort to review his background inorder to ascertain whether he bought the plane from the proceeds of his business or from stolen funds. In America, many individuals own helicopters and jets.
