The Chinese yuan with their booming economy should have had higher value in currency than the dollar, buh they deliberately fix the yuan to be lesser than the dollar to enable them to be export marketable, so that China remains an attractive place to buy goods than the US and Europe. With this economic move, african Businesses prefer sourcing goods in China than other areas.

One question - What should CBD do with its USD earning? Should they hoard it? At some point they stopped selling USD and the whole nation cried out. Now they have shored up the forex reserve and they are selling something to the market and we want to complain again?

What is the point of making money and not spending? The story from the Senate is misleading - CBN selling forex to the banks is not the same as 'spending' forex. Sadly, so many people have fallen for the dummy!

I this idea of market forces is just a romantic kumbaya economic model that doesn't hold water. Even the Chinese rig their yuan to be competitive against the dollar. The naira has been living off dollar hangouts since the oil boom years of the 70's. More than 2 generations of Nigerians have been raised on imported goods. You can't wake up In 2017 and suddenly remove the dollar life support from the economy in the name of market forces and in a regime of low oil prices. The naira will crumble to more the N2000 to the dollar because, let's face it, there is no other source of forex supply to the economy than oil. And we certainly can't use our entire petrol dollars to fund imports. So this CBN intervention will continue till we're able to create sufficient supply to match the demand for dollars. Then we can let market forces determine price. But doing that now is like going for a war you haven't prepared for. You will be outwitted on all fronts and decimated.

First, Senate has a sinister motive, so you should be careful when reading news from them. It may be false. Go to the black market and ask - Demand for USD has fallen significantly. This is because it no longer pays for people to buy dollars and use it as savings!

Nigerian Senate has been leading the fight against anti-corruption. When you hear that corruption will fight back, that's our Senate.

They spend 9 months in a year tearing apart FG's budget but they refuse to disclose to Nigerians how they spend billions of dollars annually.

The lower house has its own - it is called padding!

Now to the Naira - when it depreciates, Nigerians are the first to cry to high heavens! Sorry, who wants to buy a bottle of Coke at N500? In a country where some states cannot even pay minimum wage of N18,000 per month!

Smart countries know how to defend their resources. Britain subsidises tube transport by millions of pounds every day and they also subsidise health. America stoutly defends its agriculture. China protects its Yuan so stoutly, so that they dont get into a vicious cycle. They do that while they develop their agric and industrial base. Once their output is high they can liberalize their economy, because at that point their spendings of USD would have reduced.

There is a lot of divestment going on - Some states in the East have started exporting agric produce. States like Kebbi have grown rice and reduced the forex spent on rice imports substantially!

So, Senate wants to teach us Economics! Start at home. Make your budget transparent.

The truth is Nigeria needs a window, where it protects its currency, while it boosts its local production, so that Naira does not free-float into perdition! Free-floating opens the door for speculators to start piling pressure on the Naira buy hoarding dollars. There is no end in that tunnel!

People talk senselessly about free-floating. Try that when your local production is low and see hyper-inflation speed your economy into doom! Economics 101.

Our Senate is haunted by their many sins. They are the ones holding us to ransom.

Sorry to say that they cannot question the decision to concession the airports. If they dont agree with the process then they have an issue.

FG has no business managing businesses. It breeds inefficiency and corruption. Airports are pure commercial businesses.

This is the challenge with civil servants. They like freebies. Resume at 9am close at 3pm and sometimes do nothing inbetween. In the real world things are slightly different.

At any rate FG should compensate those who may have to leave. Those who are highly competent I guess will be retained by whoever wins the concessions.

FG please concession MMA to top global operators and quickly fix the airport road. That will give Nigeria a lot of mileage in terms of publicity.

If this is not the true situation then I suggest that the "70%" non-aggrieved Igbos should be more vocal about their stand in the whole debacle so that a wrong impression of things will not be painted by the "small faction".

In any case, I still think Buhari needs to have a serious town hall meeting with both the Igbos in the SE and the minorities in the SS so as to iron out grey areas and see how a restructured Nigeria can be fashioned to benefit both the North and South.

That has happened already a few times. Maybe it is okay they try it one more time. The leaders rather than ask for streamlining and re-structuring will start clamouring again for more states for their regions, which translates into more governors and more looting. Nigeria just needs good leaders at all levels. Period. why are we not getting them? Because the electorate is largely gullible and illiterate. That's also why it so easy for Kanu to turn the youths in SE to mumus.

Personally, I have some reservations about this. I dont trust that Dangote dude, he will get triple or quadruple benefits from this in addition to the fact that all the materials to be used will be supplied by his company.

Better than nothing.
