1) Hmm! Is all I can say. For it is their exclusive right to either grant you mercy and forgiveness or withhold it from you.
I repeat: if this is the case, all people are doomed.

2) Here you are talking about the death of a human being. Forgiveness here is obtainable for a human being has an Oga (God), who he must obey and God too can cancel/overide his failure/inability to forgive.
This is more reasonable and I think for a Christian your teaching is unbiblical. The bible teaches that God has the sole prerogative of forgiveness of sins.

But this is absent in the case of The Holy Spirit, so wahala dey for person wey go fall inside this hole!
I don't think this so called blasphemy against the Holy Spirit has a clear definition.

You know it is True! Your mother and father and teachers showed you.

And the society even shows it is True by always telling us to "go and apologize to that person" or "go and beg that person to forgive you".
What if -
1. They don't forgive you even when you are genuinely contrite.
2. They are unavailable - for example, dead.

Are you then permanently screwed?

Forgiveness lies at the full will and discretion of the offended!

Which is why the Bible counsels that you should not offend anyone, else, you trouble and perish thy own life.

As righteous tendeth to life: so he that pursueth evil PURSUETH IT TO HIS OWN DEATH (SELF-CIDE IN LATIN "SUI CIDE"wink
If this is true, we are all in hot soup.
It simply cant be absolutely true.

The present day Uyo Capital City includes parts of Nsit Ibom LGA(some parts of Aka Etinan road, and Olusegun Obasanjo way, parts of Ibesikpo Asutan(some parts of Aka Etinan road, Goodluck Jonathan Boulevard, etc.), some parts of Uruan LGA(parts of Nwaniba and airport roads, and Itu LGA( some parts of Calabar-Itu highway,Uyo-Ikot Ekpene express way, Idoro road, Atiku Abubakar way, etc. Plus Uyo LGA.

So Uyo Capital City is Uyo LGA plus some parts of the surrounding 4 LGAs.

Uyo capital city is bigger than Uyo LGA and the Capital City has today expanded into Ibiono Ibom and Etinan LGAs.
Saintkeppy with all these interventions you should be getting the point now.

Its okay, the fact remains Ikeja is a city on it own& the State Capital of Lagos State for that matter, where LASG carries out its State's administrative functions &not Governor's residence@Marina on the Island, whether Ikeja is big or Small in size, it is was Constitutionally picked as Lagos State Capital. I also understand that you have problems with comprehension &you can live peacefully with it. Au revoir Mon Ami.

Lagos is a city state just like New York in the US, but has an Official capital for administrative functions, alright?
Albany is Capital of New York State.

Abuja is not a State, its under the Jurisdiction of Federal Government, it has a special ministry that take care of its development &it's headed by a Minister by appointment.
Abuja has six Area Councils, you may as well call it LGA, but the seat of Power is in Abuja Municipal Council.
You haven't said anything.
Anyone who lives in Lagos will have difficulty describing Ikeja as its "capital city . . ." It is at best just its chief administrative area housing the secretariat to the state government. In fact to underscore the point, the Governor's official residence is not even there. It is on the Marina in Lagos Island. We cannot begin to compare Ikeja to other state capitals which are full cities themselves and on their own. Its ridiculous to compare Ikeja in that sense to a Kaduna, or Calabar, a Port-Harcourt or Uyo, a Benin City or Ibadan. See the point?

If you carve Ikeja out of the rest of Lagos, what size would it be and would that look like a city to you?
Travel › Re: Which States Have The Best Capital Cities In Nigeria? by DeepSight(m): 1:41am On Sep 17, 2022
Is it fair or truly right to refer to Ikeja as a city of its own?
Isn't it rightly just a district (LGA) within a city?

That's why I suspect her professorship. I can excuse ipob and its supporters because they are mainly illiterates, but for a so called professor to display such ignorance is unbelievable.

The British monarch has no powers to declare war or engage in foreign policy. That's the job of the government of the day. It was the government of prime minister Neville Chamberlain that declared war on Germany not the king. It was the government of James Harold Wilson that supported the Nigerian side in the Biafran war and not queen Elizabeth and it was the government of Margaret Thatcher that declared war on Argentina in 1982 and not queen Elizabeth.

What queen Elizabeth's role was in the Biafran war that warranted such a vitriolic attack, Uju and her supporters are yet to tell us
While I don't support the Prof's remarks, i think its naïve to truly believe the crown has no say in what happens in Britain or what Britain does abroad. There are smokescreens everywhere in this world, and British constitutional monarchy is one of the biggest of the smokescreens in this world.

OP you have come to the right place for sexological advice from the Nairaland panel of experts.

Now, you have supplied some relevant information and made some useful statements without going to any police station, BUT you have FAILED to publish the picture of that woman wearing bum-shorts so that a full picture that captures the REASON that you were left with no option but to hang pipe on that fateful day, with the result that you are now expressing worries about STDs and pregnancy.

Kindly do the right thing immediately by publishing closeup pictures of the offending bum shorts that CLEARLY show the camel toes and the toto topography, so that we can bury our noses DEEP into this problem in order to proffer solutions that will be acceptable to the woman you shagged mercilessly that day, to her irate parents, to the DPO of police, and to the police dog used to catch suspects, in addition to the Nairaland diaspora.

Thank you and God bless Argentina.

Never tired of embarrassing yourself. You are comparing Nigerian standard of rape to the US.

In the US rape is defined as unconsented penetration. Even if she comes into your bedroom naked at 4AM, allowed you to kiss her and handle her breasts, the minutes she says no to penetration and you forcefully proceed. That would be termed rape in the US.
This is also the definition of rape in Nigeria.
I think the only issue we may have is the interpretation of consent.
And its a tricky one.
Because if one were to take it to an extreme, then even while already in a consensual act of sexx, if she says "stop" and you thrust one more time - Is that rape?

Historical in the sense that there was a British Empire. Not in the sense that an angel spoke to Muhammad on a mountain or God spoke to Moses through a burning bush.

I wonder if more accurate would not be, "the spirit is the core intangible root unconsciousness of being", which I'd still hesitate to accept.

Your description view kind of shifts the conscious on to the mind.
I understand where you are coming from here and in fact I am tempted to fully agree, save the fact that in my particular view of things, the mind deals more with self-consciousness and thus the daily or waking consciousness of a person whereas the spirit is more root or original consciousness. This goes deep into the recesses of a being, through and beyond the sub-conscious (where the mind is also entangled) right up to the unconscious.

If I were to make a rough analogy with a computer, I would say the body is the hardware, the mind is the soft-ware, the spirit is the electric power that vitalizes the entire system.

Glad for this clarification because it seems I have thinking your viewpoint is that spirit and mind are the same thing.

So going by your clarification, the mind is like an interface?
Gbam.
Christianity Etc › Re: Matter And Mind by DeepSight(m): 10:10am On Aug 15, 2022
LordReed:
So the mind is not the spirit?
At all.
Even in everyday parlance, people distinguish between thinking with their "head" and not their "heart." Although this is only a rough analogy: for you can respond by saying that emotions arise from the activity of the head anyway, and that the heart is merely used symbolically, which will in a sense be true. But what I mean here is that the spirit is the core intangible root consciousness of being. Whereas the mind may be viewed as that intangible space where the spirit meets the body, where our memories, worldly identity and daily self consciousness reside, and where we think and organize our lives and our activity, the realm of our thoughts. This space is of course, as I said, connected with the body in this material realm, it influences the body just as the body influences it.

How is in not independent if it survives the death of the body?
It is not independent in its working in the world of matter. It cannot be. For it is influenced by external material stimuli as much as it also influences the external material world in constant interaction with it.

Let me add that that which spiritual people through the ages have thought of as surviving physical death is the spirit, which is understood differently from the mind.

Before you ask, I think I defined spirit somewhere on this thread -

I guess what I am trying to understand from your viewpoint is why would an independent aspect of the mind body duality be needing to cause these chemical and biological changes. Why is there any sort of feedback?
It is not independent: certainly not in the material world.

Triplechoice, Deepsight

How would your view on the mind question explain this:

In a remarkable breakthrough, scientists from Israel have discovered that they can use saliva samples to quickly and accurately diagnose people suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

In a study published in Nature’s Molecular Psychiatry magazine, researchers from Tel Aviv and Haifa Universities took saliva samples and investigated the psychological, social and medical conditions of about 200 Israeli veteran soldiers.

They discovered that soldiers who had experienced combat stress related reactions from Israel’s first war with Lebanon in 1982, and were still suffering post-trauma, showed a typical microbial picture in their saliva.

https://www.israel21c.org/study-ptsd-sufferers-share-bacterial-footprint-in-saliva/
Haba, this is no biggie at all. We agree that the mind and body are connected. It is thus not a surprising thing that one can glean the state of the mind from signs in the body. Certain chemicals for example are only emitted in certain states of mind. Looking at the quantum and state of your serotonin for example, a doctor can tell about your mood, your sleep or lack of it, even your libido.

This is not an issue. This does nothing to suggest that mind is matter. It only affirms what we all already agree on: that mind is, for beings such as us, in this world, connected to matter. This has never been disputed.

I’m not presuming anything, your posts says all what i need. You can’t just wake up one day and say “allah” means table in your MIND, they’ll say you are crazy.

All words have its etymology and people’s opinions won’t change it.
And You are the one presuming without evidence, just your opinions.

And Also you brought in trinity that has nothing to do with the discussion. I’m very interested in your understanding of trinity.

Once again “god” is a title not a person, you writing capital G doesn’t change that. Sango is a god so as Baal.
And hope you know Jesus Chrestus is different from jesus of nazareth.

Once again, you are welcome.
By presumption I simply meant your presumption that your co-discussant knows nothing of the origin of the Trinity.
My dear friend, it is well, I dont have the strength or inclination tonight, especially as I still don't see anything particularly interesting to discuss or debate.

I thank you for your several attachments and references all the same.

Allah and Elohim means same thing.
The trinity you mentioned has nothing to do with the discussion, it’s a created concept by tertulian when they were establishing the Christian doctrines.
Should we go to emperor Constantine and the Catholic so you can understand how trinity came to be?
I know how the Trinity came to be, thanks very much.
If you are unable to see the point I make, thats fair enough.

They are facts brother, you agreeing or not won’t change it or the etymology. The hebrew professor didn’t mention all these?
Well, Allah and Elohim even go far beyond hebrew language, which is under semitic languages.
I really dont know what you are pressing, when I have told you that two people can use the same name, or derived name, and have two different things in mind. You still missed the point even with the example of the Trinity. I used it to show you how people using the same name for God can think of him with different attributes. Its really simple. I see nothing more here to debate.
