Princedapace: Who and who is envious of Lagos? It is obvious Nigerians, majority are wack. It is like Egyptians bragging about Cairo to other Egyptians who aren't from Cairo. It is like those from Johannesburg in South Africa bragging about the city to those South Africans who aren't from Johannesburg. See, Lagos is to Nigeria what Johannesburg is to South Africa, to what Cairo is to Egypt, to what Rabat is to Morocco, to what Dublin is to Ireland, to what Saint Petersburg is to Russia, etc. Every country has that commercial city that enjoys more IGR due to location and central govt presence. Lagos was the colonial capital territory, the central govt capital for decades, enjoyed massive central govt investments, has a very centralized port system. It is natural for businesses and companies to move to that place. Over 80 percent of buisness in Nigeria are in Lagos. It is just that Nigeria is made up of nations that can never ever love them selves if not, there is no need bragging about Lagos or hating Lagos to same Nigerians. Every country on earth has her own commercial city hub that enjoys more IGR due to major factors such as govt sit of power, location and past history. You have said it all. Its so pitiful to watch thoughtless and ignorant people try to imagine the commercial capital of Nigeria as an ethnic achievement of a single tribe. So much so that they say "go back to your village" in a condescending way to their compatriots. Ignorant of the history and even nature of the very city they so wish to claim as their exclusive achievement and exclusive work. Even worse is the fact that they always assume instantly that anyone who points out the facts to them is "Igbo" - brandishing the word "Igbo" as though it is some kind of slur, insult or death sentence. My heaven help this country. No family can survive or thrive with this sort of petty hatred. |

wirinet: War is the last place to bring moral arguments. Throughout history morality had never been considered in war until the end of WW2 and the setting up of the Geneva Convention. If you followed the Greek wars, Roman wars, Gengis Khan Mongolian wars, you will see such things as genocide, rape, stealing (war booty), slavery, etc., were considered normal consequences of war. Even in the Bible rape, genocide and slavery were not considered immoral in war. Nonetheless people have always deployed moral arguments to raise armies and inspire others into a fight. As I said, exploitation of other people's land and resources had been an integral part of human history. Stronger and more cohesive societies exploit the weaknesses of weaker societies to their advantage. That's why the England, a people with land the size of yoruba land was able to conquer India, a whole continent and half the world. If Gadaffi had not weakened the political and social structure of the Libyan society so he could remain in power perpetually and the hand over to his son, the West would not have been able to exploit the division created. If this is the case then you cannot have any quarrel with what Putin is doing. Might is right and may the fittest survive, period. You can't eat your cake and have it- You have to be consistent. I don't subscribe to the doctrine of whataboutism. Which is because someone else had done it justifies my doing same also. This is not whataboutism. This is pointing out hypocrisy. |

OsunOriginal: This is what they are envious of and saying Tinubu has stolen all the money in Lagos.
They didn't ask themselves why Lagos remains the envy of even other countries in West Africa Lagos is what it is because it is the melting point and economic nerve centre of 200 million Nigerians, and the centre of an economy which is the largest in Africa, which economy is in turn mostly run by oil revenue from places outside Lagos. Lagos is what it is because Nigeria is what it is and it is the real capital of Nigeria, aside from having been the legal capital for the better part f a century - from 1914 to 1991. That's 77 years. Lagos was neither founded nor built by Bola Tinubu. The way you guys talk, one would think he discovered Lagos and built it himself. |

wirinet: I hate it when people bring in morality into any arguments, it betrays lack of valid reasons for your positions. Its virtually impossible to avoid moral arguments in any war. Morality is a social construct that changes between societies, era and circumstances. Moral issues like human sacrifices, slavery, polygamy, homosexualism, prostitution, wars, genocide, fashion, abortion, substance abuse (smoking, marijuana, drug use,) etc evolves with time even within the same society. This can be a quaint escapist argument for those nations who have committed abominations in the past. It is also very slippery because who is the judge of that evolution or the timespan required for it. Has there been moral evolution, for example, since the West's fraudulent war in Iraq over non-existent weapons of mass destruction - something which was a deliberate lie and which millions of people globally protested against? Afghanistan nko? Libya nko? I never supported NATO's expansion to the east. But putin handling of the whole issues left much to be desired. Agreed. But I must point out one thing: if you are in the habit of "doing anyhow" don't try to lecture your opponent on how to respond to your "anyhowness." Dem sef fit respond with anyhow. |

While you guys are here crowing support for the west I hope you know the Monroe doctrine of the US forbids any power from setting up a military base in their hemisphere? This covers the entire North and South American continents - hence their readiness to go to War over the Russian military base in Cuba - up to Nuclear War. Yet they and their cronies have military bases at Russia's backyard and if they had succeeded with Ukraine they will have at Russia's backdoor.

Putin is just a desperate man playing his trump card. He hurriedly annexed regions he knows the Russian military cannot hold for long and then threaten to strike with nuclear weapon if Ukraine attacks to capture the regions back. I think the speech was directed at showing up Western hypocrisy. Which is undeniably real and stinks to high heavens. The bit about sex change was just an add-on to show how the west is moving in the direction of moral and social absurdities and depravities. In war, you throw everything at your enemy to show them in the darkest possible light. He never gave sex change as the reason for the war. He has given reasons for that separately. He just said that to make the point that the people claiming the moral high ground are socially depraved. |

With fear and ignorance, you can get control and power over people. To maintain the power and control, you inject deceit, fraud and even more fear. And that becomes a self-perpetuating cycle. Religious beliefs are force-fed to us long before we are able to articulate our own thoughts. Thereafter, those beliefs hold us hostage for the rest of our lives.
Therefore, I think there is something generally and fundamentally wrong with religion and religious beliefs. No matter how indoctrinated you are and no matter how young you were when it started, at a point in your life, as a thinking being, you need to stop and ask yourself some basic questions. If you cant do that, too bad for you. You are shackled in the worst kind of slavery: the slavery of the mind. |

As other tribe, to buy land for east na war to live with u people na war and to have opposite opinions in the east na suicide and still yet u people will come to lagos and come and claim it that Nigeria is one and u practiced non of it in ur state. Also, it is a lame excuse to want to lay claim to lagos because it was former capital. Don’t I know the meaning of former and calaba was also formal capital and no south west is laying claim to it. Lagos maintained its standard and that is y it attracts people from all over the world. Calabar does not maintained its standard. U can lay claimed to Abuja because it is the capital and not lagos Abeg. I don't know why you people like to make assumptions. It really betrays not just your tribal bigotry but your small minds. I am not from the East, and I did not "come to" Lagos. I was born in Lagos and it is my home. Secondly, Lagos is what it is on account that it was the capital of Nigeria for almost a century. It was not magically built up into what it is by a select group of Lagosians only. It has been made what it is by its role in Nigeria, and by Nigerian resources. |

Akpu pigs wan claim Lagos. Riffraffs too like beta thing Every Nigerian has a legitimate right to cite Abuja as his or hers being the Federal Capital. Lagos also has a very special status, not just as the financial capital and melting pot of the country, but also as that city which was capital of Nigeria for almost a century, which counts for a lot. The Federal investment in the city in that timeframe as well as the coalescing of its peoples and their activities around it count for a lot. I would go so far as to say it remains the "spiritual" capital of Nigeria where the soul of the nation sits. Lokoja and Calabar never had a comparable length of time, Federal investment, or coalescing of peoples to render proper any claimed equivalence. Overall, I have to say I don't like discussions like this. What does it profit anyone really? As Nigerians, we have compatriots who are politicians in foreign countries. Why do we hate our own compatriots so much. For me, I hope we arrive at a day when any one from any part of the country can contest and win an election anywhere else, so long as he is truly in touch with the mind and soul of the people involved |

Trump is not the only celebrity that buys and sell properties and his MAGA cult worshippers can never afford to lodge in any of his properties not to talk of buying on, as most are poor disgruntled semi educated blue colour workers.
Besides, that does not explain the over exaggeration of the living spaces. They cant all be poor, and they cant all be blue collar. |
Foreign Affairs › Re: American Politics Thread: 2026 Midterm Elections Live! by DeepSight(m): 4:15am On Sep 23, 2022 |
wirinet: What I don't understand is why do the banks play along with Trump and accept his valuations? And then give loans on these extremely exaggerated valuations. Any sensible adults would have an idea of property worth within his surroundings. Even without professional estimators and valuers, an average worker can estimate within 50 - 100% of property value within an area. At worst you can check the online property market. That he could get away with almost 1000% inflation is unbelievable.
It's more absurd to inflate property space. Are you telling me the bank's valuers cannot tell the difference between a 10,000 square meters space and a 30000 square meters space just by looking at it? You don't even require a tape rule to differentiate. Imagine Mara a lago being values at 700 million dollars and not even naira.
Those banks needs to be investigated. They must be accomplices in an elaborate money laundering scheme. Completely agree the banks must be partners in fraud, but sometimes the value of a property can radically escalate depending on its history. When a celebrity has lived in a place for example, it can affect the value of the place. And for many (misguided) millions in America, Trump is a cult hero. Just saying. |

Dtruthspeaker: Did you not see this words? And are these not Overiding Authorities? How do you read? Who do those words override? To say that a prerogative is an overriding or affirmatory authority is simply wrong sir. Because that suggests that there is someone else or something else being overridden or affirmed. This is not necessarily the case. It is simply an exclusive right, period. You don't need to be overriding or affirming anything or anyone. Its just your exclusive right, simple. A thing which is unforgivable must be something which is very very bad and wicked.
And we have seen it even in our natural living that we have often heard what some one did and we all confessed saying "dis thing is very bad o. Ah, dis one is unforgivable"!
And after that, it is up to the offended to either forgive you or not which is what I have said already.
Secondly, it was Christ Himself Who fore-warned, among His Teachings that there is He Who you must not take your business of sinning to.
You also do not appreciate that whether Christ fore+warned us or not, that unfortunate circumstance is already there.
Therefore, it is a goodness that we have already been forewarned!
Exodus 23 20 Behold, I send an Angel before thee, to keep thee in the way, and to bring thee into the place which I have prepared.
21 Beware of him, and obey his voice, provoke him not; for he will not pardon your transgressions: for my name is in him. All this is grammar. The facts are that - 1. There is no definition of blasphemy against the Holy Spirit, and thus it is meaningless: this is why people struggle with confusing explanations for it, and - 2. If there is any sin that remains unforgivable by the Christian rendition of God even after genuine repentance and contrition, then that rendition of God is questionable being self-contradictory in terms of being un-christlike. |

Dtruthspeaker: Prerogative means Overiding or Affirmatory Authority. No it does not! prerogative noun pre·rog·a·tive pri-ˈrä-gə-tiv 1 a : an exclusive or special right, power, or privilege: such as (1) : one belonging to an office or an official body (2) : one belonging to a person, group, or class of individuals (3) : one possessed by a nation as an attribute of sovereignty b : the discretionary power inhering in the British Crown 2 : a distinctive excellencehttps://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/prerogativeOnly for a person to come and further 'blast' it up which means broadcast it. That is a very very bad and wicked thing to do. A thing being "very very bad and wicked" is an altogether different proposition from it being absolutely unforgiveable by an eternal God such that the doer of such a deed is irretrievably damned eternally, no matter how contrite or repentant he may become. One would think this idea is terribly at variance with the character and indeed mission of Christ as revealed in the New Testament. Especially when this said deed is as hazy and ill defined as the so called blasphemy against the Holy Spirit. |

I repeat: if this is the case, all people are doomed. 2) Here you are talking about the death of a human being. Forgiveness here is obtainable for a human being has an Oga (God), who he must obey and God too can cancel/overide his failure/inability to forgive. This is more reasonable and I think for a Christian your teaching is unbiblical. The bible teaches that God has the sole prerogative of forgiveness of sins. But this is absent in the case of The Holy Spirit, so wahala dey for person wey go fall inside this hole! I don't think this so called blasphemy against the Holy Spirit has a clear definition. |
