Donsammi: is ur drivers updated? hv u repair ur dvd rom b4?
Given what you were previously asked, Any error message when you try to copy and how
are you copying ? e.g. windows explorer, imageburn ? just of curiosity, could you click start, all prog..
then look for acer delux cd dvd playing software that came with acer then try playing 4 cd or dvd to test.

Are you copying to your laptop or external devices. in addition to that you may find this link useful.

komols856: Error code :0x80070057
window could not format a partition on disk 0. the error occured while preparing
the partition seleted for installation.

i observe it when i was trying to format my system. please what is the meaning and what is the possible solution to it.

and my laptop cannot boot as well.each time i tried to start it will say disk error
Is this an hp compaq or for example toshiba p300-20h windows 7 or 8 ?

How many operating system do you have, i.e. window xp, vista or multiple operating system ?

have you added a new hard drive and why are you formatting ?

is the disk original as not copied or fake ?

did you use ntfs or fat32 quick format ?

You may have a faulty hdd.
if you are allow to try creating a 20 gig partion to see if you can install it, then make the partion
bigger and install it again, eg if the 20 gig is ok the do half of the hdd.
What percentage does to format stop at ?

Gifterai: My PC do not work on battery, it's only when I plug it to power that it works. Then if I'm using it on power and the lights goes off, the laptop will switch off at once instead of switching to battery. Please what is the cause. I use hp pavilion dv6-3381si.
RE: Battery not holding a charge

Click on the start menu, type in hp battery test
and carry out the test. it would either passed, replaced
or weak. if you cant find hp battery test either you have up or down
graded your operating system. google hp battery test and run it
you'd need the charger to be plugged in.

Timijohn: Thanks for your reply.
1. You asked me toscan for hardware changes. I did that and saw "other devices" with the yellow mark, i checked the properties and saw the error code "28" which you asked me to check for before doing the autofix.

2. The DVD/CD ROm wasn't changed, the engineer said he had to work on the board.

3. After the repair, I discovered it couldn't read CDs any more, it could only read DVDs. I thought the probkem could be caused by drivers, so I checked the device manager and under the CD/DVD part, I saw that the DVD part had no yellow mark but the CD did have the mark. I want to 100 tools driver CD but, it couldn't read it.

4. As for the autofix link you gave me, I'm will try it when i take the laptop to a cafe cos, i could not access it on phone and my MODEM is out of data.
I hope I can now do the autofix, cos you said i should let you see the code first.
Thanks for your assistance, I'll get back to you after I try the autofix.
Okay. lets wait and see.Last resort is to take back to where it was repaired, at the
end of day you paid them for their service.

Timijohn: Thanks deji the yellow mark came back. I checked the properties and saw Error" 28"
The laptop was dropped and the cd drive was repaired or replaced ?
And there is yellow sign in device manager and still read dvds ?

you did not follow prev instructions, please go back and run the
auto fix. please try 3 different audio cd not a copied one but
original one with casing and labels.

Amazing Angel: its 120gb
This is what I always tell my woman, whenever you have anything done keep the receipts
for 3 months at least. make sure you ask them for receipts and also after they have done everything,
open this link from microsoft to verify they have installed a genuine operating system.
Also make sure you tell them to install you all the drivers and in most cases a windows update.
I doubts windows update because its takes lots of internet gb to download the latest
security update. make sure antivirus is installed

Given the diagnostics you've carried out, you need to take it in for a

vista or windows 7 (if compatible) and that's it.

shop. It is possible to format and recover the data however you doing this at your

according to onegig, take the hdd out if you are
capable of doing so and boot without it the

to boot. you will get error message to indicate no
hdd or operating system found. you could use
f11 system recovery manager backup data
first recommended or connect the hdd to
another comp.. and download recuva to extract the

Dear Kelvin,

We would appreciate if you could give us the laptop model number that
can be found underneath the machine. for example, my machine is a Toshiba
P300-20H Windows Vista. what is your's ? Pleas be specific about the diags
you carried out in the bios, i.e. load setup default or made some changes ?

The big question is, if the screen was blank, how did you get to the bios ?

Here is your diagnostics that a technician would first carried out before assuming
anything regardless of the laptop type. if the screen was blank: 35% fix rate

How to perform an ATX reset:

Disconnect the power from your computer.
If possible remove the battery and external devices.
Hold the power button for about 15 seconds
Put the battery back in the computer
Reconnect the power
Press the power button to turn on your computer

This error indicated that your laptop is booting from
another source, i.e. not from the hard drive. it's
a classic error and there are steps to take to rectify it.
restart the laptop and immediately keep pressing f2 for bios
make use of the arrow keys on the keyboard and scroll to
boot and make sure the hard drive is at the top of the list among
others would be cd, usb hard rive, Lan, to mention but a few. you make sure
your hard drive is at the top of the list and not usb hard drive
after the hard drive is at the top press f10 save the changes and exit then
the machine would attempt to boot into windows. if no joy put the
error message you are getting into google and follow the diagnostics
procedures recommended by google.

It might there is no hard drive inside the laptop
also check no cd inside the laptop and no memory stick
or memory sd card

How is it proving difficult to uninstall? for example, error messages ?
Did you use control panel add and remove programs to uninstall it ?
Have you removed the expired antivirus? I take it to be Norton, Kerp's or Avg?

The last resort would be to try uninstalling in safe mode or use the vendor's
removal tool. Be very careful though, in doubts ask I and my colleagues.

Ehimax: Thanks brother really appreciate your effort in assisting me, how do i get a genuine norton antivirus? and one other thing my bios dont have boot option from flash or other external devices is it normal for this version of samsung? the engineer was suggesting he will open the system and put my hard disk in his system and format using his own system that was really scary for a system i bought bearly 2weeks with my hard earned NYSC allowe savings embarassed . any advice in regard to this and i hope i didnt make a mistake buying this version? thanks
adewasco2k: there is a way around it, just goto your bios setup->advance you will see something fast boot or so, just click on it and disable it, make sure to exit and save changes.

Now when you are booting your computer immediately it comes up just tap on (either F10 or F12) and the boot option will come up.

sorry i am not sure again if samsung is F10 or F12 but i know it will work that way
In bold=Very important please reply

Given what adewasko had advised, what O/S is this , i.e XP or Windows 7 starter edition
Did the engineer tamper with the recovery partiton or ran a partial recovery or ran a
start up repair just like adewasko asked. A recovery partition allows you to reset the
machine back to factory settings after backing up your important data. Please refer to
adewasko previous advice. Could I ask, are you able to log in into windows ?

I would advise you don't install Norton on a netbook using atom or mini size processors.for the sake of
simplicity, norton runs better on a laptop with a big processor. I take it your netbook comes with a 1gb memory
ram. I would advise Microsoft security essential provided you uninstall previous installation and download ccleaner
to clean any traces of avast AND eset. The laptop is 2 weeks old and such should have a recovery partition.please
restart the machine and keep pressing f4, if the recovery comes up please get back to us before proceeding

@Adewasko longest time, I have missed your post terribly, Please join us !
