Foreign Affairs › Re: Burkina Faso: Constitution Suspended, Govt Dissolved. Traore Announces Coup D'et by delpee(f): 11:01pm On Sep 30, 2022 |
Kasssandra: Coups do not work, and do not solve the problems they are meant to solve.
Several months ago, Burkina had a coup, and most of you Nairalanders were saying that we should have the same in Nigeria.
Well, in 1966, we had a coup. January that year. By July we had another coup. By January 1970, millions of people who welcomed the new year in 1966 were dead. DEAD. For nothing.
In 1983, they came again. Told us that Shagari was wrecking the economy...yet in one year, we were queueing up for food. When they came in, naira was less than N2 to one dollar, by 1999, it was N90 to one dollar...if not higher.
And yet on Nairaland, I see kids...yes kids...who were lucky to be born when we had democracy...calling for coup because they are mad that Buhari won in 2015.
How about people like me that are mad that since 1999, we have not gotten a great democratic government.? People like me that have never voted for PDP, or Buhari, or any major party since 2003, when I cast my first vote? Because we saw the same old people in those parties?
Yet, I don't want coup. Coup always leads to more problems.
Anyone calling for coup does not know how hellish it was. MNK that most of you like...if it was millitary ruling now, he would have long since shot him, and passed a decree and backdated it to cover his legal ass. And if any biafra supporter comes out, they would be gunned down in high numbers and detained in high numbers than what we have now. Same for oodua, same for even Boko Haram. There would be no freedom to protest, newspapers would be closed down, and they will pay you bad salaries, and you will dare not go on strike because...you would be jailed for protesting.
And coup always leads to more coups and more coups and more coups.
Better continue with democracy. It is hard work...but it is better than army rule. Army rule did not solve our problems, it did not make us a better country, it even wrecked the army...which it has not yet recovered from, and gave us wounds that we are still recovering from till today.
Sorry, but democracy is better. The truth as it is! |

HumbleOptimist: Good Day Dear Nairaland Family,
My Sister started behaving weirdly last few Weeks. She laughs alone, talks alone and is sometimes restless especially at Night.
Though she always responds well and correctly when engaged. I've asked her and she told me she doesn't know when that happens and it's unintentional.
I, on my part have tried talking to my Dad to take her to a Mental Health Expert, my Dad seems to believe it is spiritual attack instead. Please, I need Medical practitioners in the house to help tell me what she's probably suffering from so I can Confidently convince my Dad.
Can you please help move this to front page? Please take her to the hospital asap. She needs to be assessed and treated before it gets worse. She may need to see a psychiatrist. She may not need to be confined since she's not violent. Prayer support will work for the spiritual aspect if any. |

MansoryMX: Nigeria is a wayward country. Even if someone strangled him to death, tie a rope to his neck and hang him from his ceiling there will be no forensic investigation, no DNA or finger print investigation to know the cause of his death. This is how lawless we live in a society we call modern just because people drive latest cars or use latest gadgets Honestly, sometimes I wonder if some of the suicide cases we get to hear about are not actually murders packaged as suicide to cover the tracks of the killers. |

festacman: - Bola Ahmed Tinubu is a greedy man who legalized his looting with laws made by Lagos State House of Assembly populated by people he selfishly nominated and installed. - Atiku Abubakar like Saraki is a mindless looter who thinks he is smart because he uses fronts to loot to appear innocent. - Peter Obi is mindlessly ruthless and tight-fisted capitalist/net importer whose bank is a safe haven for loots and who uses image of austerity and sanctimony to cover his his tracks.
However in spite of their negatives, one of these men will president of Nigeria in 2023. Very sad indeed. |

BUT
Women in leadership position: A big No No for me, that is more like an avenue to breeding of more feminist. The ones we have now have grown so much wings, They now see themselves as mini-god, that they think the only thing left for them now is a pri*k.
Just yesterday a female prof. beat up the police attached to her. Such effontery! So after training your daughter and she comes out in flying colors, you don't expect her to rise to a leadership position someday? |

Shoodboi: These ones are worse. The Dopemu bridge becomes one-way at 3 pm. You cannot go from Akowonjo to Dopemu anymore but can go from Dopemu to Akowonjo. There is a sign there but it is hidden behind a tree. Most drivers will miss it and even the few that don't will only notice it after climbing the bridge. Yet, those LASTMA and traffic officers will stay at the top or end of the bridge waiting to arrest innocent drivers that default that law. That's so unfair! If they mean well, they'll place the notice properly and one officer should be at the end of the bridge to direct drivers accordingly. The stubborn ones can then go on to receive their well deserved punishment. LASG needs to do something about this urgently. |
Travel › Re: No Sign Indicating 'One Way' On Oworonshoki Road by delpee(f): 12:21pm On Sep 16, 2022 |
There are other roads like this. Some roads are also designated one way in different directions at different times of the day. Of course, those who are not familiar with those places can easily fall victim.
LASG needs to put well installed bold signs for people to see. The officials on duty should warn those who may not know instead of hanging around to make money from victims. |

These stories are heartbreaking! Looking at it from this perspective, the punishment is well deserved. In any case, we have a choice to obey the law or face the consequences.
We always compare ourselves to modern societies and blame the government for where we are but in reality, we create the situation we find ourselves by not complying with the rules that should make our lives better. |
Celebrities › Re: I Have Slept With 2000 People Since Losing My Virginity At 12 — Rapper Diamond by delpee(f): 11:55am On Sep 16, 2022 |
candidtalk: True talk. I personally think this age of women's liberation and female 'empowerment' we live in is more damaging to women because a lot of women interpret it to mean what it is not.
For example, promiscuity does not make a woman 'stronger' or put her 'in control' as loose women will claim.
Divorce is particularly high now because women are becoming exactly like men due to relaxed thinking that no longer places the onus on women to be virtuous and more responsible than men. We all know our mothers are very different to women of today.
Whereas women today will argue that their mothers are 'mumus' who were 'original sufferheads' I think the past generation of women recognised the fact they were homemakers and the thread holding society together.
With women today not so interested in homemaking, then homes, marriages and societies will collapse. That is what is happening.
My personal opinion though and I may be wrong. You're right. Feminism of the 70s and 80s was all about equal opportunities in terms of work and basic human rights. That was achieved. The Beijing conference comes to mind. It wasn't about destroying the home. In any case, many of the frontliners were happily married. We now have a challenge with the upbringing of children since the home makers are no longer interested. That's probably why we have so many rebellious, unloving, dependent and unnecessarily aggressive kids today. The home is the foundation for any society but that understanding is lost. |

Corridon: Our Yoruba history is full of betrayers. As it obtains in every tribe where democracy is practised, people are enlightened enough to know their personal rights and are never carried away by bandwagon effects. People disagreeing with others based on good principles doesn't amount to betrayal. Same way as those opposed to ESN and IPOB are not necessarily betrayers. |
