Career / Re: Unpopular Remote Tech Jobs That Are Valuable Outside Africa by demanuel(m): 9:36pm On Jun 23, 2022
Interesting.
What medium did you use to pitch your services to these clients; twitter, Facebook, Google?
Remitush:
Countries like the US and other developed countries have easy access to funds compared to places like Nigeria.

As a result of this, the value they place on skills that are taken for granted in developing countries differs.

But hiring from other developing countries isn’t as straight forward since they also have a pool of talents on the rise that stand a better chance

I know this because after I left my job in Nigeria, I searched on LinkedIn for jobs in the US and each time I had conversations with recruiters, it always seem unclear why they insist I must live in the US to be considered for the remote job.

This is also knowing fully well the companies I applied to are fully remote.

Imagine how frustrating it is for someone like me who just transitioned into tech as a salesforce administrator

But I have built my skills by engaging in the salesforce communities and working in use cases until one day I was chatting with my mentor Miss Emelda and was telling her how depressing it can be not having a stable income

While I appreciated the contracts I was getting at the time and it was good to live on for a country like Nigeria , I wanted more

In her words, she said REMI, do these three things and give me feedback after 15days

1) List out all your skills starting from before/when you were at the university till date

2) Package just one that is valuable that you can charge premium for that people will pay

3) Target certain cities in the US that are in need of the skills and present it to them in such a way that they’ll look like a dumbass to say “No” to it

I didn’t think much about this and just did it to see what’s going to happen.

And Boom that was how I started an agency that targeted startups cos they got funded and they have the money to pay for my sales-led customer acquisition service

If you got to this point, I want you to know that if you can package what you already know that people want, you’ll not be begging for others to hire you.

I’m writing this cos my mentor is running a free training on how you can turn your skills to an outrageous amount of money and I thought you should know. ( her Instagram handle is: @fromemelda)

You can take the steps I took above and you’ll get the results depending on your area of expertise.

Just know that the traditional route of compounding enough money to survive is really outdated and killing a lot of dreams

Your goal should be to leverage tech to create the life you want and not follow rules that were created long before the internet was born.

I am invested in paying it forward that’s why I share my personal growth and experiences on nairaland to reach the right people (Nigerians who want to be helped)

I hope you find this helpful.

No I don't. I lost the card long ago.
But my details are on the platform.
I just updated my profile on the website (photo, new address) and then I applied for voter transfer from the previous address I had there. The application is still processing. I hope it works.

MNDY:

Do you have a photocopy of the lost card? Go to any INEC office around you and let them use it to do Transfer for you. Else you have to register afresh on INEC website first before proceeding to an INEC office. You can do same fresh registration in INEC office too by filling and submitting the registration form.

I have lost my previous card and have changed location, how do I go about it?
Do I first update my address and then request for a new card on their site?
MNDY:

If everything can be done online awaiting collection of the voters card, why do people with android phones still go to INEC office for registration?

What you did on your phone is to book an appointment with INEC for the main capture of your picture on the card when it will come. Check details of your registration, can you see an appointment date there?

I think you are expected to go to an INEC office in your local government where they will enter your details again on their system using a registration number you generated on your phone, they will capture you and also print and give you a slip like POS containing a longer INEC generated number and other details. It is this slip that will be used to trace your voter's card when they bring. THIS IS WHAT MANY PEOPLE INCLUDING MUSELF HAVE DONE.

Bmdebell see this
Xbobtage:
I agree with you, that the trajectory of this country is one where the Bokoharam/ISIS gain enough momentum where they can over power the nigerian Army or start power Sharing. Anyone who is not already understanding/accepting the realism of this is not a deep thinker.

Shekau has always been clear, Bokoharam's mission is to erase western education and bring ALL of nigeria under islamic Rule, This is their long term Goal and mission.

The group has gone very far from being splinter cells of a terror group to a Juggernaut that now controls large swats of territory in many . northern states, in partnership with ISIS which already is a sort of a Quasi government in Libya, Iraq and somalia. In other words its not wrong to say that Bokoharam is Backed by governments - People with infinite sources of money from Oil and taxes imposed on people living in the territories they currently control.

For you to understand the mindset of a typical bokoharam supporter, You have to understand that the Bokoharam fighters are fighting for what is right according to the Quran, they believe that by converting you to Islam they are helping you and your children unborn to save their souls to make it to the Kingdom of God. And they believe they are also doing this to Gain Favor in the Eyes of God. How can you stop a people with this type of resolve.

Any true muslim knows and believes that what Bokoharam is fighting for is right by the words of Allah,(although, they may not like How Bokoharam is going about trying to Achieve thier Agenda).

So how can Bokoharam fighters defeat the nigerian Military and overwhelm the north? Its happening before our eyes.

* The nigerian Military already is currently rehabilitating BH fighters and putting them in the military, if you remember that this is an Ideology, then you can understand that a Bokoharam fighter can never change.
* The Nigerian Military is Primarily based off the North of Nigeria. Armory, Training facilities, Planes, Jet fighters all domiciled in the north.
* There are more Muslims as top commanders and as foot soldiers in all of the three nigerian Military and even police. That explains the Arabic written words on the nigerian Army's Emblem, if truly Nigeria was a secular country or one that respects the existence of the christian populace, those words in Arabic wouldnt be there)

So all you need is a Military Chief of staff that shares the same ideals as bokoharam and is balsy enough to make a move, and boom, Non muslim top members of the military would be arrested, others would flee the country, foot soldiers who are unwilling to comply would be killed or also arrested and there you have it, the nigerian military machine is in the hands of Bokoharam, then they would start taking cities as you saw the taliban doing, those who accept islam would be spared, ISIS did the same in iraq and syria in 2015 or so i guess. That being the case, no southern state, stands a fighting chance, People who accept islam might be offered large benefits and believe it or not, that would cause alot of communities to convert, the same way a lot communities were made to renounce their ethnicity during the Biafran war. They could also start using political undertones to set the stone for a soft landing, pushing words like Afterall christianity and Islam are the same or its the only way for the party to win elections because the muslims are the only ones willing to vote. And thesame type of people you see defending bad politicians here on nairaland because of tribe and political party will be here to spin it and flip it so it doesnt come off as bad as its suppose to sound...with hundreds of likes on their post to make you believe that a lot of people are in support of the ideology.

Also, It may not be the all out aggressive way that you are thinking, it might be sort of systematic. They may look for a soft landing initially by saying something like after going through census, its clear that the muslim population of nigeria is now more than 60% and that they have declare that nigeria is now a muslim state just like malaysia, churches would now need special permissions to function. Then, slowly, slowly eat into every fabric of your daily life, until it becomes illegal to be anything but a "true practising Muslim", it was done in Iran in the 1940s.

If you think its impossible to have a radicalized muslim in a top military position, you should remember your current minister of communication who has professed his love for the ways of Bokoharam(Alqeada), If you can have that as an aid to the president, then anything is possible.

The struggle is real bro . You just gotta keep trying. A lot of European employers are specifically looking for Africans and Asians. If they're rejecting you after viewing your linkedin profile then perhaps you should package your linkedin better.

You mentioned graduating with a 1st class, but i don't think that matters if you are looking for remote jobs. I believe Past work experience and projects would go a long way.

Lastly, most Data Science related jobs and back end development in general are not entry level and people are really careful about who they trust their data and database management with because any mistake would cost the company a lot. Frontend Web developers have it much easier, they just have to have one or two good past projects and they can land a job.

If getting a remote job is proving too difficult then perhaps you should consider getting an entry level, on site Data Analytics job in Nigeria so you can have industry experience to display on your resume. That's the route I'm considering too.
Thank you so much for this.
In my conversation with Mikebabs101, this is the part I didn't include.

Your class of degree is almost irrelevant. Lol.
This is not to discount that, but your skill, level of experience, and competence are the priorities.

Some of the people who got these foreign data job from Nigeria, started from entry level roles to gain experience and instill confidence on their resume. There are some resumes or profiles that can never be ignored regardless if the person is a Nigerian or based in Nigeria.

Data is very confidential and important to these organisations and they are very careful with whom they entrust their data with, but that doesn't make it impossible to get the desired job.

Lol, when you get there, you will realise, Did I tell you am unemployed? , Did I tell you am broke? Did I tell you I don't know the importance of moving abroad to land your dream job. I can bet you have not been there , I can bet you have never searched for remote international job.I'm stating facts but you want to keep hallucinating. For your information, am a first class graduate. What am saying is even after acquiring the skills, you need to find a way of moving abroad, cos those companies are interested in people already living in Europe or north America. This is not dreaming, I am stating the reality
I have friends and friends of friends who have gotten offers to move, right from here in Nigeria.
From Content writers, to Software engineers, to those who worked in the big 4, etc. They all got offers from the same twitter and LinkedIn.

So I am not just saying what I don't know.

But then who am I to really change your reality?

Best wishes.

When you get there, you will see these companies are not willing to employ Nigerians living in Nigeria. They are interested in hiring people living in North America and European Union countries for positions they tag 100 percent remote. One can easily get local data analyst jobs though, but if you are looking for international data analyst job, living in Nigeria is a disadvantage
I don't know what your dream is, but if you feel you can't find an international data analyst job directly, you should find other means to migrate abroad.

Truth is, you can't continue to complain about the disadvantage of living in Nigeria, if you want to make any headway.
Have you even being applying for scholarship with your class of degree?
Why not get a decent data analyst job in Nigeria or on freelance platforms and build experience on the way, as you continue to apply for the international jobs.

Again, I suggest you join active data analyst communities on twitter and other platforms.
Complaining won't change anything, really.

I am just beginning my journey towards becoming a data/financial analyst.
But I believe that I can never possess the skills or qualifications you highlighted, and be broke or not get a headway.
It will only be a matter of time to get a break through.
Have you tried the following?;
-Fiverr
-Upwork
-Twitter
-Instagram

If there's still no headway, I suggest you go learn Marketing & Sales.

Learn how to send effective compelling proposals, how to pitch directly to businesses if you can't get the desired remote job.

There's no way that you will be skilled and competent, and understand Marketing & Sales, that you will not get a breakthrough.
No way. Wish you all the very best.

In your daft response, you still choose to ignore the fact that I don't condone cheating nor broke men.
Money and character are not mutually exclusive.

But You shouldn't cry fowl when the provider man choose to do whatever he likes with his money.

Afterall he provides, so why complain when he also choose to play outside with his funds?
Since the husband knows that you'll be there to accept his apologies, and can't go anywhere because you don't have your own money.

Look at the daft advise you're giving the op, to deny sex, demand more bills, and divorce when the kids finish school.
Rather than quickly move out, if she has her own money.

Does she have to suffer this long because she just have to cling to the provider husband, who refused to be faithful?
If she has her own funds, will she have to condone all these?

I repeat for the last time to you; as long as women place premium on money, and less regard to character, stories like this won't cease.

Family / Re: Help My Husband Seems To Be Addicted To Prostitutes! by demanuel(m): 8:50pm On Jan 27, 2022
This an unfortunate story...

But madam, I thought it's always about the money!
As in, a man just have to be rich to be called a man.
Character, core values and moral conduct are less important.

Now una don see man with money but is badly behaved.

After all he has money to take care of the home front, but there are funds to share outside.

Una plenty wey dey share the provider man cheesy

It's in cases like this that women will understand that a man can have money and also be useless to you, not only when he's broke.
As long as a man is only assessed based on what he can provide, rather than also assessing his character and core values, such stories will never cease.
Ybaby:

STOP sleeping with him.... HIV is real

Make sure to hire maids to clean the house (He pays)

Put your child in the best school money can buy (He pays)

Invest his money in yourself..... when he has nothing to give prostitues he will sit at home.

He has extra that is why he is paying N120,000 for Ashy.

You are his wife : you deserve that money more than those ladies.

When your last child leaves university - divorce him! Such men should be dealt with coldly.

Wow!
I love this bro.
This state of mind is something called "matching the vibration of your desires", "vibration matching", or what they call the "Be-Do-Have" model.
It's a way of hacking reality to give you what you want, such that by behaving as if you already have what you desire in life, it will indeed come to reality.
Personally I have experienced the result of having such a mindset, and I hope to do more of it in the coming year smiley
Winnerly:

Always look good and clean. Wear nice clothes and make an effort to be easy on the eyes. ( nice hair cut, no body odor or bad breath, good shoe, etc)

Live higher than your means ( good phone, car, nice accommodation etc). Although this is controversial, in my experience, people want to give you more money or opportunities when you look the part already.

What people call you attracts resources from the universe to you. If people think you’re rich, you will eventually become rich. When i was a new joiner at work, people thought i was rich although i was broke as hell but i always used expensive phones, lived in VI when colleagues were living in mushin and other interior places.

Something interesting happened years later, i became exactly all that they thought i was already. Things i exaggerated ended up becoming true for me.

As an accountant, I would also suggest you consider Cyber Security or System Security as it were. Especially if you have experience in accounting. This wont be difficult for you to grab since you have been taught and know internal control as an accountant. My friend, an ACCA Member, moved to the US, Washington DC, and he's now in the Tech Security industry. Accounting has no future.

The jobs I am talking about are relocation jobs. You get it, they sponsor your visa and bring you over. Well student visa was in my plan as I wrote the GRE earlier one this year but combining it with work and salesforce wasn't easy so I dropped it to focus fully on salesforce and just being a better programmer. People are getting sponsored and countries are laxing work visas for programmers now unlike other fields.
PeaceJoyLove:

Lol. But you know that the end game is to relocate. If I were you guys, I would add student visa options too. It is the easiest way to cut out, though it may be very expensive. The truth is that if you sre getting jobs here, if you relocate, you will get more. I would just endure attending the graduate school and then continue my side hustling. You will always get link in the universities to even step into bigger roles. Jobs there too are done remotely.
This is primarily why I am switching from my Accounting background to "Financial Analyst/ Data analyst"...To get a remote job opportunity and move out, especially now that I am still in my early 30s. Before it gets too late, let me move out. Lol

I would advise you to learn salesforce as an accountant. It's massive cloud spreadsheet at the basics of it and I have seen countless of salesforce business analyst roles. Salesforce even owns tableau. They bought it over.

Instead of ACCA invest your money on getting certifications for business tech platforms and learn coding beside it.

I have an Accounting background with knowledge and experience in accounting software, using excel etc.
I realised that getting remote jobs even as a bookkeeper is difficult. They need people with sound knowledge of US/UK/Canadian taxes, payroll computation etc.

So my plan is to enrol for ACCA program and build Data Skills that will enhance my chances for opportunities in data analysis, financial analysis etc (Advance Excel, SQL, R, Python, Tableau, Power Bi etc)

Armed with these skills and certification, I can get opportunities as a Data analyst, Financial Analyst or Accountant.

I plan to move out like this. Does it make sense? Any advise or suggestions?
Thanks
Career / Re: Business Process Outsourcing?? by demanuel(m): 3:33am On Jul 19, 2021
Samtobh:
Business process outsourcing (BPO) is a business practice in which an organization contracts with an external service provider to perform an essential business task.

Typically, an organization first identifies a process that is necessary for its operations yet is not part of its core value proposition in the market; this step requires a good understanding of the processes within the organization and strong business process management.

I have rendered some outsourcing services to some firms in Lagos and I can tell you companies are looking more at decentralising their operations to reduce OPEX and ensure more efficiency

Call centre operations/customer service
Procurement
Digital marketing
IT/Web Development
Etc.

are examples of departments that are outsourced to BPO service providers and this provides a huge market for BPO

Getting to work for a BPO firm can provide you all the knowledge you need to be an all-rounder on some operations.

Working remotely for a BPO firm comes with its challenges such as different time zones (for overseas firms), need to learn some new languages, use of digital tools and others.

We have only few BPO firms around and 90% are focused either on call center operations or IT.

Send a mail for more information if needs be.
Do you get inquiries for "part-time bookkeeper " or " remote/virtual bookkeeper/accountant"?
