@naijaking1

Whether we had the 5 best lawyers worldwide, we would have lost the case. It was beyond our control. The people who wanted to benefit from Nigeria-Cameroun war had already decided. ICJ was just reading delivering their message.

Britain that carved out Nigeria said Bakassi wasn't part of it, Germany that carved out Cameroun said that Bakassi was part of it. Britain and France that took over Cameroun from Germany after world war 2 said Bakassi is part of it. Cameroun itself has documents endorsed by the Nigerian Government that after the Biafran War, it would concede the Bakassi Peninsula to Cameroun and forfeit all claims to it.

Haba my brother, how lawyer wan take win that kain case for you? The only way Nigeria would have gotten Bakassi was by war. Which would have not ended even today.

Abeg jare, since government has made some concessions and labour doesn't want to flinch, I think it is only right that the government reverts back to the N75 and 10% vat.

That's how negotiation is done. This is not haggling. So all these bloody labourers because dem don load their fridge with food, dem no wan consider. Okay O!

I think since people refuse to understand the reason for the increase in fuel prices, well, I guess the Private refineries should be allowed to operate. But they should not be subsidized since they are private companies.

Maybe when these Nigerian Private Refineries start shipping their product to the international market for the international market price, maybe then Nigerians eye go open.
Travel › Re: Traffic Issues In Lagos. What Can Be Done? by denex: 8:20pm On Jun 19, 2007
Imagine a state like Lagos with the Lagoon and Ocean reaching wide, yet all those businessmen refuse to set up water transport system. Only the Tarzan Water Transport Company is functioning. The rest are waiting for Government. Na so so government this, government that. Lagos business people should invest in WATER TRANSPORT.

Then secondly, I repeat all those people that are saying Nigeria is not good, let them go! Our roads are choked, the price of real estate is skyrocketing. Let them GO!

Thirdly, I believe as places like Calabar and Jos continue to prosper, people will start migrating there. Personally, I hope I can put together enough cash to get a decent place near Tinapa by the middle of next year.

any Indian prime Minister who gives Kashmir away to smaller Pakistan and end tensions would not be reelected, but would ensure future peace between India and Pakistan, and will earn a smile from the peaceful spirit of Mahatma Ghandi.

I'm a songwriter and not a rapper so I have only one 2 verse rap.

I am saying it's because nobody applied the first time, that these people decided to impose their housegirls on us as Angels.

Maybe if people truly apply this time around for the Angels 2, we can afford to see something better.

If nobody buys the forms, that does not mean there will be no Angels 2. There's more where they got that first set of hoodrats from.

If accepting this appointment is against the NBA constitution, then I hail his integrity.

I also think that Yar'Adua is over doing this whole thing. It's not everybody that is buyable. He should target people like Tinubu.

@Mamajama

there are internal auditors to scrutinize. When the system fails, external once can be brought in. Imagine the costs of having external auditors audit ALL the government accounts.

I think deterrence is another tool that will be used. As time goes on, those that chopped money during the previous administrations will be brought to book.

So that Livi Ajuonuma has started showing his true colour?
N230/litre? That is about $7/gallon!

That means Nigerians would start driving to neighbouring countries to go and buy fuel.

Maybe he said it so that the people will better tolerate the current increase. Whichever way, that is a very aggravating statement from someone who is supposed to be a diplomat. He should get the axe. If he did say it.
Politics › Re: How Is The Nation Wide Strike Affecting You. by denex: 5:49pm On Jun 19, 2007
In other words, you are admitting that you are not mentally stable. To decide that you will go about attacking me wherever I make pro-government statements. That is a form of dependency syndrome.

You're also admitting bias. By saying you will only attack me when I make pro-government posts. So if I make anti-government statements, you will not bother me. You just declared yourself an irrational individual.

Abeg, stop trying to use me to become popular on Nairaland. Abi are you Eedris?

By the way, I make pro-Nigerian statements, whether pro- or antigovernment. And if Nigeria messes up, I'll make anti-Nigerian comments. So mr Razorr, get a life and stop living in my shadow.
Politics › Re: Fg Bows To Labour Demands, Reduces Fuel Price, Vat by denex: 5:36pm On Jun 19, 2007
I think the federal government should use this opportunity to strengthen its tax laws. Everybody should pay taxes. Income tax and not by increasing VAT. In fact I think right now, the government should even go ahead to remove the 5% VAT from good that cannot be vatted.

I think the fuel price reduction was a mistake though and they will still increase it again. Please lets get done with this fuel price wahala once and for all. Shebi we're heading for N100/litre. We have to stop beating about the bush and do this thing once and for all.

abeg if you get government job for me, I no run. I'm a unit production manager in a multimedia firm. Na only recently I decide to to delve into event hosting in order to restructure my bank account. Maybe if you explore the entertainment segment of this website you would have seen my posts. Instead, you restrict your movement to politics which you hardly know anything about.

Anyway, fact that I don't work for the government does not mean I will accuse them of something they did not do. Were you not on this planet when NLC was striking so that OBJ would accept the IMF plan?

Just because it contained a clause that mentioned a salary increase.

And why is it that you never see my posts when I criticize the government? Eye dey pain you?
Abeg, I don't even have time to draw words with you.

I just wish you'd look at the documents and see that even with garbage in garbage out. There is accountability.

If a minister types garbage in that he is going to withdraw N2m while he wants to withdraw $2million, then N2m will be approve for him and when he reaches the bank, they will give him N2m. So I believe the garbage in garbage out will not help them.

Not to forget that he/she has already imputed that they are withdrawing N2million so must therefore give an account of how it was spent.

Please read the Atiku PTDF hearings. I was shocked at the level the government goes in tracking financial activities.

I beg to differ that most people in the ministries don't know how to operate computers. I don't even think there is a single staff in an administrative department that doesn't know how to operate a computer. When yahoo boys wey no sabi spell dey operate computer?

If you go through the hearings of the PTDF issue, you will know how much every single financial exchange is recorded.

The issue of making sure the government officials and their families only use facilities in Nigeria is already in the works.

This however only means that infrastructure will improve it doesn't really prevent stealing.

The system of publicizing the budget of all government agencies, ministries, states and local governments as carried out by OBJ will ensure people know how much money was gotten and if there is no sign of it being used appropriately the people will easily know.

Then there is also account keeping and auditing.

You can check out the ministry of finance website to know how much some of these government officials are recieving. That I think is what they call accountability abi? So that they can be held accountable.

@angel101

the reason I picked out only the so called GSM for the rich assertion by that individual is that it was the most outrageous.

As for those crying over Bakassi, I beg una, let it go. It takes only a tortoise like the one from Otta to see that was the war trap. It worked in India-Pakistan, it worked in Israel-Lebanon, it worked in Ethiopia-Eritrea, it may work in China-Taiwan. We dodge am. It will not happen in Nigeria-Cameroun. In fact not only will we give Cameroun the land, we will take the opportunity to make them our boy.

Abeg make una leave that thing. International politics is not for the straight thinking. It's for the overall analyst.
Politics › Re: How Is The Nation Wide Strike Affecting You. by denex: 3:49pm On Jun 19, 2007
It is the fault of NLC. Were they not the ones who used their strikes to force the man in Otta to accept to IMF plan?

All the problems that we've had in the last 7 years including privatization of refineries, job cuts, everything apart from the power problem and MEND, was caused by labour.

Oshiomole just finished this country. How can NLC strike us into accepting the IMF program and now strike against implementing it.
Politics › Re: Do You Think This Strike Is Neccessary? by denex: 3:30pm On Jun 19, 2007
Shebi NLC will be on strike as long as they are comfortable.

By the time NEPA goes on strike and the whole country falls into 2 weeks of total darkness, the newspapers go on strike, telephone companies go on strike, water works go on strike, that is when NLC will realise the real meaning of strike and they will come out begging. These people don't know what strike really means. Let security operatives and television stations including DSTV routers, and radio stations go on strike. Let food sellers go on strike, private and public workers go on strike whether NLC will not beg.

All NLC keeps doing all these years have been convenience strikes. They punish the people while staying in their own comfort zone. Let them force all sections of Labourers to go on strike whether they can survive it for one week. BASTARDS!!!
Politics › Re: How Is The Nation Wide Strike Affecting You. by denex: 3:13pm On Jun 19, 2007
Well, I'm supposed to submit a proposal for a project and this whole strike has crippled everything. This strike has taken me back 2 months in terms of planning and logistics. All the signatures I have collated are going to expire. I have to start retyping the proposals and running around all over again to get the endorsement of those organizations all over again.

In fact, I just hope I'm not finished.

Politics › Re: Olusegun Obasanjo's Legacy by denex: 12:48am On Jun 19, 2007
And let's not forget that he resolved the Bakassi issue without violence.

For those of you who do not know, wherever their is international border discrepances, the world court is USED to give the disputed land to the smaller country so that the larger country will aggress.

Well, not us. Make them carry go. A lot of Nigerians still have beef about letting Bakassi go, but if yall knew how many weapons factories were reopened all around the world in preparation for sale into a Nigeria-Cameroun war, you would understand why we had to let go.

Abeg naija na big boy. We don pass all those level of "African war-torn Countries"
