Minutes ago, I stumbled upon this thread on front-page: 'Okowa Sends Anambra Woman Back To Her State For Constituting Nuisance In Asaba'. Link here It was such a sensational headline and it gave me the Adams Oshiomole vibes as per his 'Go and Die' antics of yesteryears. I settled down to read what crime the woman must have committed to attract the attention of Okowa. Lo and behold, I was shocked to find out that the topic is in a suspicious disagreement with the content. Absolutely! First off, the entire fiasco was overseen by the Ministry of Women and Social Welfare. At no point did Okowa, or an assigned representative or spokesperson make any appearance all through the narrative. Secondly, the said woman was actually sent back to her place of origin with a token to start a business; she was empowered which is a very laudable thing. It doesn't matter where she was asked to reside from then on, she was given an opportunity for a fresh start (and warned not to engage in street begging again). Take another look at the headline and see if it includes this part. The purpose of this senational headline serves only one purpose; and that is to create tension unnecessarily. For the Commissioner and all parties associated with this firsthand, it is a positive, an achievement and something to build upon. For the news source providing this information, it is derogatory to one side at least In line with Nairaland's latest policy on easing tribal friction, such a thread should never have made frontpage. It should have been long trashed or adjusted to reflect the real story. I'd advise moderators to be wary of the stories they allow to exist here, especially those from media known to be very minimal with the truth. This source is a notorious one at that; don't take my word for it-see for yourself. Shalom. |
This headline is misleading. |
I get irritated when supposed adults demonstrate incapability to process complete thoughts. You posted an article of Soyinka leaving prison. The big question is why was he in prison in the first place? What actions got him there? Was it not fighting for what he believes is just? He belongs to the annals of history now and is saying words that are out of place today and you're trying to use his past as a moral compass to dissuade youths of today fighting for what they believe is just? Are you aware someone at that time played the same dissuading role he is trying to play today and if he had listened, he probably won't have ended up in prison. But he did and you celebrate him because of what he stood for. I get irritated when supposed adults demonstrate incapability to process complete thoughts. |
helinues:Yeah normal of your kinds. Punch Nigeria is useless but People Gazette is the bomb 😌 |
Ireportlive:I'm sorry she didn't appear on ireportlive. Not sure you can afford her exclusive either, which is sad considering you work for someone who could afford to forfeit £460,000 on a whim. 🥲 |
I don't get these people with 'Seun stop looking for validity from the Igbos'; if you have nothing to offer, you won't get validity anywhere. And if you do anyhow, no matter the validity you've accumulated, you will collect. Seun maintains a Nairaland Forum which is accessed by all Nigerians; that already ensures validity in everyone who uses it. If he decides to shut down Nairaland today, some of you will immediately be out of a job; not to speak of the addicted who'd become depressed with nostalgia. Mind your words. He made his point. You can either like it or not; but don't be in a hurry to make it an Igbo affair. |
Nothing better than those who bleed their sweat for the nation determining how the nation is steered. Well done NLC. Well done Labour Party. Forward Ever. |
In November 2022, SaharaReporters reported how Owombo was transported to Abuja from Adamawa State to meet with the Comptroller General of Customs while in detention. Owombo Segun John, an officer of the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) who raised the alarm on how refined petroleum products, especially the Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), otherwise called petrol, is being smuggled to Cameroon, Chad and Niger Republic and other African countries has remained in detention. Owombo, a Superintendent of Customs (SC) in a video had narrated how he arrested so many smugglers on Wednesday, November 2, at Malabo Checkpoint on Belel Road, Adamawa state. He however said senior officials of the NCS called him to release the suspects. In November 2022, SaharaReporters reported how Owombo was transported to Abuja from Adamawa State to meet with the Comptroller General of Customs while in detention. SaharaReporters had also reported that Owombo was set to undergo certain tests while in detention. According to the results of tests performed at Karu General Hospital in Abuja and obtained by SaharaReporters, Owombo is suffering from a kidney disease that could worsen if not treated immediately. Another source in the agency on Friday told SaharaReporters that the officer has been kept in open detention since his arrest to ensure media silence over his matter. The source added that Owombo was also issued a query last week for allegedly exposing “to the public the secrecy of the public service.” The letter signed by SA BOMAI, Secretary/Ag. Assistant Comptroller-General (Board) and obtained by SaharaReporters read, “It has been brought to the notice of the Nigeria Customs Service Board (NCSB) that your attitude to work and general conduct has been unsatisfactory: “That you Svc No 44836 SC SI OWOMBO, while serving at Federal Operations Unit (FOU) Zone D as a proper Officer, involved in a case of disclosing official information, violation of oath of secrecy and act of unbecoming of a Public Officer. “This constitutes a Serious Misconduct under the Public Service Rule (PSR) 030402 (i), (n) and (w) punishable under 030401 with Dismissal. “2. If you have any representations to make as to why necessary disciplinary action, including dismissal from the Service should not be taken against you, you should submit same, to the satisfaction of the Board, in duplicate, through the Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC), within forty-eight (48) hours, of receipt of this query. “Please note that if your representation is not received within this time limit, it will be taken to mean that you have none to make and necessary disciplinary action against you shall commence accordingly. “3. You will be allowed access to documents relevant to your defence. 4. Acknowledge receipt of this query on the copy attached herewith.” https://saharareporters.com/2023/04/07/nigerian-customs-officer-remains-detention-five-months-after-exposing-petrol-smuggling nlfpmod

How many views did the letter get? 😂 Those who used 2go that year will remember unruly teenagers who just put seemingly big insulting words together to bamboozle their online opponents. This doctor has the vibes 😁 |
Ivimmanuel:The word you wanted to use was 'most bigoted'. Not to rain on your parade but that was careless. |
Stress. |
Well, nothing concern OBIdients with APC internal crisis 🤷🏾♂️

falcon01:This happened 15 years ago. Add 15 years to the age of the youth who perpetrated this; they're now adults and occupying one sphere or the other of the Nigerian citizenry. |
Bringing this back to the timeline from 2007. A textbook on bloodshed can be written for each passing year; someone or some people that had to pay the death price for the religion. The saddening one about this is; no one has been able to confirm till date if actually there was a Qu'ran in the bag or not. The big question about our co-existing side by side is; To be or Not to be? https://www.christiantoday.com/article/christian.school.teacher.brutally.murdered.by.extremists.in.nigeria/11021.htm

Isn't this why the case is in court? If y'all don't want a court case, you could have just allowed the election flow 🤷🏾♂️ |
Becomrichn:www.google.com/search |
So these guys just went on hiatus for the elections to be over? Patriotism is not in the Nigerian Lingua so far. How can the government explain this nonsense? |
Anyhow, count your teeth with your tongue then. It's still you who reduce their numbers today that will still come out to cry tomorrow that they're trying to take over Lagos with the 500k+ votes |
9jatriot:Now you understand how FFK feels when OBIdients ignore his worthless ass. 🥲 |
Peter Obi made a wise choice. He has honest and well-meaning citizens of Nigeria behind him.

The Nigerian Medical Students' Association @NiMSA_Nigeria strongly opposes the recently proposed bill to mandate Nigerian-trained medical or dental practitioners to practice in Nigeria for a minimum of five years before being granted a full license to practice. This bill, sponsored by Rep. Ganiyu Abiodun Johnson is unpatriotic, ill-timed and a breach of the fundamental human right of doctors as enshrined in the 1999 constitution of Nigeria as amended. This bill is aimed at strangulating the medical profession and making mockery of her autonomy. The reason given by Rep. Johnson for sponsoring this bill will end up achieving the direct opposite as the bill seeks to enslave Nigerian trained doctors and paralyze the health care system. The search for greener pastures abroad can be reduced by making our land and pasture green, properly equipping our hospitals, better treatment for doctors and the brain drain will be adequately controlled. Rep. Johnson at this point should be steering conversations on medical tourism and not doctor slavery. We firmly believe that this bill is not the solution to the problem of brain drain, and we stand against it in its entirety in the strongest possible terms. The intention behind the sponsorship of this bill does not take into consideration the root causes of brain drain in Nigeria. The issue of brain drain is multifaceted and requires a more comprehensive approach to tackle it. Instead of trying to forcefully take doctors as slaves, the lawmakers should be focusing on creating an enabling environment that encourages doctors to stay and work in Nigeria. The lack of infrastructure, inadequate and inappropriate remuneration, and poor working conditions are some of the major factors driving medical professionals away from Nigeria. These issues need to be addressed if we want to attract and retain our healthcare professionals; make our land green. We also believe that the bill is a violation of the fundamental human rights of medical professionals and should not see the light of the day. The government has no right to force doctors to work in a particular location against their will- it is an affront to their autonomy and choice. We also unequivocally state that this bill will discourage students from pursuing medical education in Nigeria, which will further exacerbate the problem of the shortage of healthcare professionals. A better way to bring up the issue of being trained with “tax payer subsidies” would be to have it optional, the option of paying for medical education at the real cost value, the option of obtaining student loans and also the option of going for the subsidized medical education with the caveat of staying behind for a certain number of years to “pay back”. Besides, not all Doctors in the country are trained on subsidy; one thing the bill failed to capture. Doctors need to have a choice, even before they start their training so they can make better informed decisions. Additionally, we strongly believe that the bill is arbitrary in nature and totally unconstitutional- it deprives the Nigerian-trained medical and dental practitioners of their fundamental right to freedom of movement by arbitrarily imposing restrictions on their movements against the provision of Section 41 the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. In conclusion, @NiMSA_Nigeria vehemently opposes this bill in part and in one whole. We call on the sponsor of the bill to withdraw it with immediate effect and seek better ways of finding a lasting solution to the problem of brain drain by consultative collaboration with relevant stakeholders in the health sector coupled with the government's willingness to address the root causes and underlying issues that drive healthcare professionals away from Nigeria. The Nigerian medical students’ association, is eager for a better health system hence, our willingness to work with the government, as we have always done, to find lasting solutions to the issues plaguing the healthcare system. The health sector is essential to the growth and development of our nation, and we must take steps to ensure that our healthcare professionals stay and contribute to the growth of our country. We say *NO* to this bill, Rather, make our land and pasture green. A Sea Dog for that matter talking about fascism. What was the essence of the confraternity in the first place? 😁 Let's give it to age. The man is aging. |

For the first time, I actually listened to this conversation. I hoped you'd demonstrate the use of Adobe Premier to sort out the cuts and manipulations. helinues:I don't think so. This user account of yours would have bee long gone if he was; I mean, take a journey down your timeline yourself 😂 |
