Celebrities › I Never Repeated A Single Outfit In University-denolagrey by deturla(op): 7:22am On Mar 08, 2016
Gisting with bloggers and media enthusiasts at the Samantha Bistro ‘3 bloggers 1 night event’ on Sunday 6th March 2016, Denola spoke about his struggles and hustles while in the University, during service year and then moving to Nigeria.

A graduate of Media business from Baylor University, Texas, having worked in New York as a fashion PR, and moved to Nigeria for his National Youth Service, Denola has grown in leaps and bounds in the men’s fashion scene in Nigeria.

Known for his slaying slayer outfits, bespoke look and trying to improve Nigerian men’s fashion upgrade in Nigeria, Denola has become a force to reckon with in the Nigerian fashion scene.

He said ‘I never really dressed how I felt on the inside, so whenever I go shopping, I always shop based how I feel. I will go out and buy stuffs, but then i started putting them together. In my senior year in the University, i won an award as the best dressed, that was when i started having confidence in my fashion sense. To be honest, i never repeated one outfit in the University’ ( Awesome)

Education › WAEC, Please Save A Soul by deturla(op): 8:07pm On Mar 04, 2016
Is WAEC conflicting result an error or a deliberate act?

I wish to commend WAEC’s role in terms of the academic impact made so far in the West African student since its inception in 1952.

However, I find it so disappointing that this body that is expected to uphold its integrity is deviating from its role in doing that.

The mission of WAEC is

To maintain internationally accepted procedure
To keep providing qualitative and reliable educational assessment
To keep encouraging the youth in getting academic excellence
To keep promoting sustainable human resources development, mutual understanding and international cooperation
As a law abiding citizen and an ambitious lady who aspire to impact positively to my immediate environment and the world at large, I am quite saddened to say that the foremost examination body has truly deviated from the above mentioned mission due to the ineptitude and inefficiency of its workforce.

I bought the WAEC form in may/june 2008 at Our saviour’s standard college Efon Alaye, Ekiti state with examination name Olowoyeye Oluwanifemi D. and examination number 4140208099.

I prepared and read rigorously, burnt some night candles and studied hard for the exam and all glory to God, I passed all subjects.

Afterwards, I printed the result online after checking and proceeded to my secondary school Our saviour standard college Efon alaye Ekiti state to receive my statement of result and finally obtained my WAEC certificate which had my complete result stated on it.

I then proceeded to Ekiti state University Ado Ekiti. After securing admission for a University degree.

To my utmost surprise, after four years in the university and waiting for my final clearance and subsequent NYSC mobilization, I discovered that my Economics and Chemistry result in WAEC had been cancelled for no reason.

During my struggle to get it resolved, I went on to WAEC headquarters in Yaba, Lagos to complain about this weird situation and was informed to write a letter to that effect.

I did this, submitted to the necessary office of WAEC ICT department and was told to go online at a given time to check, that they would have effected appropriate correction since the mistake came from their end.

Since then WAEC became my second home and I visit their website to check every day to confirm whether the changes have been effected. Unfortunately, the situation remains the same; WAEC has not made the necessary corrections.

I am passionately appealing with WAEC to release my result promptly in order to move on to the next level in my life.

I have already missed the March batch of 2016 NYSC. I cannot afford to miss the next batch.

Thanks

I am Olowoyeye Oluwanifemi D. of Our saviour standard college Efon Alaye with exam. Number 4140208099 of 2008 class.

.........................................................................................................................................................................................

Please we need as much help we can get, so that this can get to WAEC, they should save this young woman from not making her service year.

Romance › He’s Spending, He’s Caring by deturla(op): 6:56pm On Mar 02, 2016
Our generation has a way of confusing two contrasting words and meanings, for example, love with sex, lust with love and money with contentment and it was a matter of time before spending became confused with care.

Let me start by defining spending in its most generally used form, spending is basically buying stuffs i.e letting money go. ‘

Now let’s look at how this affects a relationship, its a known fact through all the ages that when a male likes a female he tries as much as possible to impress her, to stand out amongst all other suitors so he buys her gifts and does all he can to win her heart.

This has proven very effective over the years and it has become a system, However, there’s one problem with the system.

Over the years women has been tailored to believe that when men do spend for them is synonymous with care but here’s why they’re wrong, a lot has changed in the last century; the goal of a man wooing a woman is not strictly for marriage anymore and what women have failed to realize is that which men now use to punish them and its the fact that women tend to confuse spending with caring.

An average man knows without being told that the fastest way to get a woman into bed is to “pretend you care” by spending a couple bucks, now the real problem is women don’t really know they confuse those two things.

Let’s highlight the three things that happens when you start spending for a girl and see why women don’t know they’re confusing the two:

1. She notices you

This can be in two ways; its either she notices you’re interested in her (cos you haven’t actually said anything) or she notices that you’re trying to show her how you feel (if you already showed interest)

2. She starts to think you do care for her

She starts analyzing everything and as she does this the brain keeps interpreting all she’s perceived and eventually sends a signal to all her body I.e the brain transmits hormones and enzymes that portray happiness and she accepts that the man does care about her (cos of the way she feels at that moment which actually the effect of the hormones now in her system).

3. She becomes emotional

This is the stage where the damage is done, after accepting that the spending counts as care the continuous thought gets her emotional and apart from crying sex is the best way a woman can express her emotions.
All processes above can be a matter of days, months or even hours, the thing is men already know this about women so they keep exploiting it.

The question that should come to mind is why else do you think a man that just took you out for shopping just now wants you to go home with him? Cos he’s trusting the system to help him get what he wants, it’s all about give and take.

You’re probably wondering now, how does one differentiate? I mean some men do spend on women they love because they want to and not cos they want something right? Well you’re right, but I’ll tell you the difference; when a man cares about you he doesn’t just spend on you he shows a lot of signs, he shows interest in you i.e he listens to you like you’re his world, he opens up to you, he tells you things he’ll rather not, he talks about your dreams and his.

There you have it, few ways to know a man cares about you, so if you think a guy loves you and all he does is spend on you and take you out where all you guys talk about is movies, entertainment and other benign issues like that better think again he might just be after what’s between your legs.

Another way to prove a man’s sincerity is a method as old as time itself which is closing your legs tight, now this method is efficient but has proven to be flawed if a limit is given for example a guy can stick around spending and pretending to care for 3,6 months even a year if he thinks there’s a chance he’ll eventually get what he wants. The truth is to some men, a woman is like mount Everest, a huge challenge.

Though it takes months to climb, when they finally succeed in climbing it and reach the top they revel in the glory come down as victors and move on and every time they see the mountain they point proudly that and say,” have been to that mountain top” that’s why you can’t set a limit while using this method, you have to be willing to go all the way.

My kind of person has never been a wedding goer. This is based on my understanding that, usually there is a flurry of emotions attached to love and getting married that makes me overwhelmed and then I don't get to eat enough food! Unlike burial ceremonies where I'll eat and drink to stupor!

Don't yab me, that's just what my senses and psychological intuition has turned me into....

Fast forward into 2016, I made a resolution that I'm gonn start attending weddings, in order to understand how getting married works...don't yab me again..lol

One thing comes to mind and it's really about the ladies. I have atended 5 weddings this year and I find it so funny when all I see is the lady cry and cry when she is about to be married and then the hubby just keeps a straight face. So I started asking questions; from old and young alike! The information that comes to me is that A lady's wedding day is the happiest day in her life and as such the accompanying emotions and makes them cry!

Huh? I now ask myself! Why will the wedding day be the happiest day in their lives! What about the day they give birth to their very first seed!

Isn't that supposed to be their happiest day? I think that theory is flawed and biased!

What do you think guys, which should be the happiest day in a lady's life: wedding or childbirth?

Business › Naira Slumps Further To N340 To Dollar At Parallel Market by deturla(op): 8:32pm On Feb 15, 2016
The Naira on Monday slumped further at the parallel market as the greenback remained scarce.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the naira lost N5 to exchange at N340 to the dollar, a depreciation of 1.5 per cent.

Over the weekend, the nation’s currency closed at N335 to the dollar.

Meanwhile, the official Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) rate remained at N197 to the dollar.

Traders at the market decried the increasing fall of the nation’s currency, pointing out that the market had remained dull as the scarcity of the dollar stifles economic activities. (NAN)

Can someone explain why this is happening to our beloved naira?

Family › Newborn Baby Found Abandoned In Bucket With Umbilical Cord Still Attached Saved by deturla(op): 8:25pm On Feb 15, 2016
This newborn baby was found abandoned in a bucket of water by a policeman who quickly ran to a nearby hospital in a bid to save its life.

The remarkable footage was captured on the body cam of an officer who accompanied the baby to the intensive care unit.

The baby still had the umbilical cord attached and was covered in amniotic fluid when he was taken out of the green bucket.

Weighing just 3lbs 1oz, doctors believe the tiny tot was born around a month premature.

The officers received a call from a member of public who found the stranded newborn and quickly raced to help.

The police didn’t wait for an ambulance to arrive but grabbed the child.

The baby was rushed to the nearby hospital as officers advised hospital staff to make the intensive care unit ready because of the baby’s condition.

The newborn was diagnosed with hypothermia and the baby’s mother is still being hunted.

The incident happened in the same area as another abandoned baby who was rescued last month when a police officer saved its life by breastfeeding the starving newborn.

The heroic policewoman saved the hours-old baby who had been dumped in the woods, by breastfeeding her while paramedics arrived.

Some women are wicked though.

Family › en-year-old boy writes incredibly sweet note as he returns wallet to its owner by deturla(op): 7:43am On Feb 15, 2016
A California woman received a heartwarming surprise when she found out a ten-year-old boy had returned her lost wallet – and left a sweet note inside.

Taylor Sloan, 22, lost her ID, debit card and nearly $40 in cash when she believes her wallet slipped out of her back pocket at a motocross event in Oakland.

Sloan canceled the card and got a new license from her DMV, never expecting to see the wallet again.

But three days later Sloan’s mother called and said her wallet had come in the mail and was accompanied with a letter written by a boy named Nasim Lawrence.

Nasim explained in the letter, which he addressed to ‘Ms Sloan’, that he had found her wallet on the floor at the Super Motocross event.
‘I know how it feels to lose something and I wanted to make sure you got your wallet back,’ he wrote.

‘Hopefully, I made you smile and you are happy to have your money and ID back. I am glad I found it instead of some bad person who would steal from you.’

‘You look like a very nice person who does nice things for people so I wanted to do something nice for you. Plus, it’s the honest thing to do.’

Sloan said she was ‘ecstatic’ when she received the package, which had been sent to the old address on her license, and that she’s glad it’s getting attention.

‘It was just this simple act of kindness that just warms my heart,’ she told ABC 7. ‘It obviously goes to show that he comes from a really great family.’

Awww…..what a boy!

Health › Brave Woman Battling Terminal Cancer Writes Incredible And Heartbreaking Letter by deturla(op): 6:48am On Feb 15, 2016
Rowena Kincaid has terminal cancer - but she is refusing to cave in to the disease.

Diagnosed with breast cancer 2009, she was told she would never live long enough to celebrate her 40th birthday.

She indeed proved the doctors wrong, and now has decided to write an open letter to her cancer.

See her letter below:

Do you know who you're dealing with? I honestly don't think you do.

I have some idea of what you are about, and I fully understand your mission. I don't understand why you came into my life, but I don't dwell upon it.

I won't give you the satisfaction of using up my mental energy trying to figure that out. I did underestimate you, maybe that's because I've never really feared you.

You have changed my life completely, and for this you are unforgiven.

I remember the day we met, you introduced yourself to me as the lump in my breast.

In all fairness you made yourself known, you were so painful that I couldn't ignore you, I just didn't think for one second it was you.

I bet you were really pleased with yourself when all the doctors misdiagnosed me, over and over again.

"Pain is a good sign, it's the lumps that don't hurt you need to look out for."

At 33 years old, I was apparently too young for anything as sinister as yourself, and what I had was "fibrous tissue".

They said they couldn't feel you, "no lump found" was typed into my medical notes. I bet you had a great time knowing this, sniggering, having more time to grow and thinking you were never going to be detected.

But this young woman knew something wasn't right, I know my body, and I never give up.

When I eventually managed to be checked by a specialist, four months later, I remember - and this is absolutely flabbergasting - you even managed to disguise yourself as something "benign" on the ultrasound!

Now, that really was clever! You should be a magician not cancer. No, really, you should! You were fooling everyone, or so you thought, until your cover was blown by a biopsy.

I know you don't care, but I want you to know that as soon as I was told you were in my body, my life, the one I had, disappeared.

The person I've now become is a radically changed version of my former self. I cried, saying goodbye to the old me, and tried to look ahead to what I may become.

I didn't know how I would be. I didn't know what was to come.

You did, however, push me to become more defiant and, actually, a lot more positive than I was before I met you.

I was indeed very positive, it was like a light switch had gone on in my head. I decided you were not going to take me, and so have stayed that way ever since.

I was glad you were cut out of my chest, but I didn't want the chemo. It was such aggressive treatment and, at the time, I didn't realise how aggressive you were too.

I had an idea, but I didn't know you well enough at the time. I still had it though, it was the only thing to stop you spreading.

I was swept away with a diary full of hospital appointments. No time to really stop and think, everything happened so fast, and yet it was also a slow, painful process.

Each treatment was a hurdle. I just always remained focused in this imaginary Olympian race, to jump each and every last one. Never thinking too much, just going with what needed to be done, to get rid of your sorry ass.

In this time you took away my blueprint, everything I thought I looked like, or how I felt.

During and after surgery and treatment, I didn't recognise myself anymore. I lost confidence in how I looked, two stone heavier, bald, scarred physically and mentally.

I found myself apologising to everyone for the way I looked, even to strangers who hadn't seen what I looked like before.

I needed love and comfort, so the worst part was I couldn't even get close to a man, or go dating, for fear that he would see my scars.

Plus, I didn't feel desirable, what with having no hair. To me, I looked like an alien. My clothes didn't fit any more, and this person who had taken over wasn't me.

I wanted my old self back. My mirror always showed someone else looking back at me. I didn't know her.

You really did put my life on hold, it became a big void. A big black hole of lost. You also interrupted my work. It took years after your visit for me to restore my career.

So you really did throw me a curveball; one that when I felt better again, I thought I'd dodged.

You were just a blip to me, and as soon as treatment ended, I started to get my life back on track.

I believed strongly I would never meet you again and, if I was to, I hoped it was in the distant future when I'd perhaps had my own family and done all the things I'd wanted to do.

The future me, I thought, may be more ready for you. The thought was always there, but I moved on and rebuilt myself and everything else you took away. I was cancer free.

I now know you knew what you were doing. You are so calculated and sly, has anyone ever told you that?

For three years you slept, you really were very, very quiet. I'm almost sure you were waiting for the time in my life when everything was going well for a change.

Job opportunities were coming my way (after working that extra mile to catch up with life again), my body was as fit as a fiddle, my hair had grown back and I felt like me, albeit a new me. I was happy!

You really did choose your timing, I do wonder if it was deliberate. Was it?

Again, vigilant, I thought something wasn't quite right with my breast bone in December 2012.

You hid yourself, so well in fact that the specialists thought nothing of it. I guess there isn't much information about how you act, when you're on a mission to return. It's still a bit of a mystery.

I wonder how long you were there, busy spreading yourself around my body, while I was happily getting on with my life?

Do feel free to answer that, when you stop busying yourself with more invasions.

By April 2013 I knew something wasn't right when the pain spread up my breastbone, collar bone, between my shoulder blades and down my arm to the elbow, and became unbearable.

I couldn't dress myself, touch my head, laugh without hurting, hold a cup in my hand, or sleep in any position without agony.

You on the other hand were having a field day, a merry old time, and again I was told this was not you, and not to worry.

So I lived on painkillers and took up physiotherapy, and presumed you were RSI.

Looking back, I should thank you for trying to tell me you were back, because you did try quite hard to really, but between myself not having a clue about what to look for (I thought you'd make a lump again) and the specialists not investigating your now obvious signs, I didn't heed your warnings until you shouted "I'm back!" extremely loud, and frighteningly clear.

And so we met again, only this time you were uncontrollable, formidable, completely in charge and life threatening.

You sneaked up on me like the bitch that you are, ripping your way throughout my whole chest, and creating a tumour the size of a baked potato.

Thanks to you, I am now covered with masses of internal scars, from the growth and shrinkage of your many tumours since; evidence of the wars I've waged against you with chemo and radiotherapy.

This civil war of ours has been raging solidly for two years now; if you count the years I didn't know I was actually fighting you, seven. I didn't stop chemo for a whole year. Not one month was I chemo free, because I knew you would try to spread further.

If I had so much as a little rest, you were in there, faster than a fox with a hen.

You are so adamant that this body will be yours, and you've worked out how to resist one chemo at a time. You've almost worked out my current one, I'm just waiting for you to confirm you have.

You'll be pleased to know I've run out of weapons after this one, and I only tell you this as I hope you show me some mercy for a short time. I applaud your ingenuity, but I also hate you.

Sometimes I feel sorry for you though, because you are after all, part of me. A completely bad version of me.

All you are doing is surviving, like I am, that's what you are programmed to do.

You think you're right, but I can tell you, you're not. Can't you see? The body you are surviving for will die if you don't stop. You won't have a body to survive in, if you carry on. You're acting like a parasite!

But I guess you can't see, you are just on your big old mission of self destruction, the only one you know and understand. You've conquered my lymphatic system and now you've managed to set up camp in my lungs.

I know it is only a matter of time until you take a jolly holiday to my liver and brain, because being the type of cancer you are, those are your favourite destinations. I know you intend to settle down in these great places sometime soon too, that's if you haven't started to already.

This time round, I still wasn't ready for you, I don't think I ever will be.

The fear of your return was greater than actually facing you again, because I'm between a rock and a hard place, as they say.

Not much I can do about it. I still refuse to show you fear, not while I have breath in my lungs.

Sometimes you throw me off course with your invisible punches, so I just pick myself up and dust myself off, and keep on walking.

Sometimes you make me cry without warning, in the strangest and most public of places.

I don't care, I'm not ashamed that you do. Maybe I will eventually show you how scared I am, but not right now, not when there are things I can do.

You see, I'm going to miss this planet we're on and I'm going to make the most of it! I'm going to enjoy every single moment of every day, every week and every month. I will continue to fight you.

I'm going to be as "normal" as possible, even though you have again successfully put my life back into suspended animation, much, much worse than before, but I won't let you make me feel like I did the first time we met, you can't hurt me like you did.

I am not that girl anymore. If anything I'm staying glamorous, I'm standing tall.

I'm proud of what my body has been through and what it continues to do while it fights you, it's withstood more than I could ever have imagined.

I'm going to show the world how to deal with you, reveal how you treat people. I'm going to raise awareness about you, so you and all your other type of "friends" don't take lives.

Most of all I am confident in my own strength, but I now don't and will never underestimate yours.

Yes, you started a fight that I know you will eventually win, but I know you very well now.

If you're waiting for me to give up, give up the life you've taken chunks out of, give up after fighting you so hard and so long, you are sorely mistaken! Thanks to you, I now have an even bigger fire in my belly, a huge lust for life, and have the mental strength of an Amazonian.

I finally know my worth. Blame yourself for the strength I set upon you, you made me this way. Even though you affect me physically, you will not define me, and when the time comes and you shoot me down, I know I will have given my all, and done myself proud.

So cancer tell me... do you know who you are dealing with now?

My God, this moved me to tears, i hope she lives on some more!.....Cancer is a terrible disease, sincerely!

The Central Bank of Nigeria has placed Overseas School fees and Medical Tourism on its Foreign Exchange Prohibitive list as Naira Falls to N325 - $1 & N450 - £1

Nigerians who intend to travel abroad for studies will thus have to source Foreign Currency from the from the parallel market.

Romance › Brothers Where Are You, Valentine Is Here by deturla(op): 7:12am On Feb 11, 2016
I have been noticing a lot of reactions online as valentines draws closer. Now is the time to see a lot of love showing, breakups, money spending and most importantly pregnancies due to the frenzy of Valentine.

I want to believe that the amount the value we place on Christmas and Muslim celebrations should also be placed on valentine, and there should be no excuse of ‘Valentine came to me by surprise and such, I am on a low key’

Apologies to the babes, I understand that unlike other seasons of love; this time u want to show your guys that you are capable as well. This one is strictly for my paddies and brotherlis.

Let me now introduce some limitations to the guys who are planning valentine movement things, some of you may be working on a lean budget, some are either in a relationship so serious while some may just be passing time with Bae, some are making plans for that one and only woman, na you know if other side attractions dey oh, Some of you are based in those big cities in Naija, while some of you are baddest nigga ever liveth (like a badt guy), Some are even just ‘chiking; the babe and can measure the babe’s readiness to hit it with you, so you wanna impress with the valentine movement things.

If you meet any of the above, then we are very good to go

It is important that before you decide to make that decision on valentine or try to ‘invest’ your dough on Bae, we need to understand your strategy and also confirm what will be the end result of your money spending.

Some may want to improve the strength of their relationships, some may leverage on the togetherness to build loyalty and trust, some may want to display the wealth as a measure of capability in handling bae’s financial obligations, some may even want to follow the norm and spend the money, not because they feel obligated to but because they want to rub their egos and boast to other guys and baes of their financial agility.

Some may even want to ___________________ with the babe so bad, hence the reason for the heavy investment for the valentine. You can fill in that blank, *winks*

We understand based on recent reactions that more than 70% of Nigerian baes will not cry or scream out loud if you surprise them publicly with gifts, love letters and flowers. So forget it, if you think, you will draw reactions from your bae. Oga, these things no dey move them again oh! Well I’m just saying! From my side of the world, we have seen a lot of theatrics from baes who pretend to love these things but in actual fact they don’t. You may just decide to scrap that out of your budget.

But wait oh, that doesn’t mean you should hide behind this and not buy gift for her oh…LOL

So unto the major something:

First of all ..(if I hear go down low’)
What you do on February 14 should be a reflection of your feeling towards her. You came to a conclusion to make her your main, even despite other side chicks. Ensure that you wake her up with a call or a text, and act like a perfect gentleman all through. Bro, make it worth her while…dig?

Whatever plan you have, you may want to consider hanging out at the beach. I have always noticed the sereneness of the beach and I want you to try it out. Men, that feeling you get, especially when you are in the midst of a couple of peeps and goons, is second to none, show her you know how to love your bae in public (PDA, y’know). I bet you she will appreciate this and even her goons will go green with envy. The beach may not work for you though, so I won’t impress it on you. Other places like, social events and locations where you have live jazz bands, or where there is soul music may also be perfect for your evenings. Key into this!

See en!, let us not forget our normal ritual so as not to leave it out, plan a nice dinner with your bae, seriously, do not make this methodical or theatrical, just revel in the evening. But be careful, let your budget guide you, do not go over the top and buy something too expensive. Do not also try an heavy meal on valentine's day, I wouldn’t want you feeling uneasy, queasy and very heavy after the dinner. Go subtle, ok? Snack, dessert and cocktail/ wine will be perfect.

It is said that some sugary snacks tend to cause hormones related to triggering pleasure which is released to the brain. I will need you to find that out. It could be added to your dinner too, you know?

On gifts, go against the norm, stop the roses and cards. Add a little bit creativity, It’s about her okay? Think about it, she may have been thinking of buying something of late, and so you can start from there. You will need to be very careful here though, remember you are working on a low budget? Just look at what she wants, check your budget and buy…don’t think it twice. She will revel in that thoughtfulness and appreciate your sensitivity.

This is the most important part, or you think not? If you intend to land the gold mine, then this should play perfect, if you not, Oga, na OYO you dey oh!

Buy some romantic lights, light blue with a touch of red will be fine, if you cannot get that, a dimly lit environment will just do fine. Ensure that your environment is romantic; well perfumed house/room, selective R ‘n’B music playing in the background, candles can come in too, if you can afford it, if you cant? Don’t fret it.

Ensure you play your role well as the MC, if you flop, the evening flops. Stare at your woman in the eyes, keep maintaining contact and make your push for ‘togertherness’ slowly. Do not be in a hurry, it’s your evening and so you have all night to get down!

Remember to continue to admire her albeit vocally, tell her she is beautiful every at every chance you get, do not spoil your evening out of desperation for the ‘koko’. Be cool, and the gold mine is yours.

Now, because you have achieved the ultimate goal of the valentine season does not mean you should now leave her to sleep and wake up like that, let the romance continue even after the events of the previous day. Appreciate her for making your day worthwhile, remember to continue to tell her she is beautiful, make her breakfast, ensure you give her a reason to revel in the events, and I bet it with you, she will go ‘crayyy’ about you, now and thereafter.

Romance › How To Let Go Of A Past Relationship: 10 Steps To Move On Peacefully by deturla(op): 10:20pm On Feb 10, 2016
Nine years ago my heart was in a million little pieces that formed the basis for a million regrets.

I had my first serious relationship in college, when all my insecurities came to a head. My ex-boyfriend had to juggle multiple roles, from therapist to cheerleader to babysitter.

The whole relationship revolved around holding me up. I realized this soon after it ended that I’d spent three years expecting someone else to love me when I didn’t love myself. The guilt and shame kept me single for almost a decade.

I dated, but it was always casual. I’d start getting close to someone and then find a way to sabotage it.

Long after I let go of the man, feelings about the relationship held me back. I was afraid of being vulnerable. I was afraid of being hurt. But mostly I was afraid of hurting someone else again and having to live with that.

If you’ve been holding onto an old relationship, now is the perfect time to let go. Here’s how you can start moving on.

1. Practice releasing regrets.

When a relationship ends, it’s tempting to dwell on what you did wrong or what you could have done differently. This might seem productive—like you can somehow change things by rehashing it. You can’t.

All dwelling does is cause you to suffer. When you start revisiting the past in your head, pull yourself into the moment. Focus on the good things in your current situation: the friends who are there for you and the lessons you’ve learned that will help you with future relationships.

It might help to tell your friends to only let you vent for ten minutes at a time. That way you’re free to express your feelings, but not drown in them.

2. Work on forgiving yourself.

You might think you made the biggest mistake of your life and if only you didn’t do it, you wouldn’t be in pain right now. Don’t go down that road—there’s nothing good down there!

Instead, keep reminding yourself that you are human. You’re entitled to make mistakes; everyone does. And you will learn from them and use those lessons to improve your life.

Also, keep in mind: if you want to feel love again in the future, the first step is to prepare yourself to give and receive it. You can only do that if you feel love toward yourself. And that means forgiving yourself.

3. Don’t think about any time as lost.

If I looked at that unhealthy relationship or the following decade as time lost, I’d underestimate all the amazing things I did in that time. True, I was single throughout my twenties, but that made it easier to travel and devote myself to different passions.

If you’ve been clinging to the past for a while and now feel you’ve missed out, shift the focus to everything you’ve gained. Maybe you’ve built great friendships or made great progress in your career.

When you focus on the positive, it’s easier to move on because you’ll feel empowered and not victimized (by your ex, by yourself, or by time.) Whatever happened in the past, it prepared you for now—and now is full of opportunities for growth, peace, and happiness.

4. Remember the bad as well as the good.

Brain scientists suggest nearly 20 percent of us suffer from “complicated grief,” a persistent sense of longing for someone we lost with romanticized memories of the relationship. Scientists also suggest this is a biological occurrence—that the longing can have an addictive quality to it, actually rooted in our brain chemistry.

As a result, we tend to remember everything with reverie, as if it was all sunshine and roses. If your ex broke up with you, it may be even more tempting to imagine she or he was perfect and you weren’t. In all reality, you both have strengths and weaknesses and you both made mistakes.

Remember them now. As I mentioned in the post 40 Ways to Let Go and Feel Less Pain, it’s easier to let go of a human than a hero.

5. Reconnect with who you are outside a relationship.

Unless you hop from relationship to relationship, odds are you lived a fulfilling single life before you got into this one. You were strong, satisfied, and happy, at least on the whole.

Remember that person now. Reconnect with any people or interests that may have received less attention while you were attached.

The strong, happy, passionate person you were attracted your ex. That person will get you through this loss and attract someone equally amazing in the future when the time is right. Not a sad, depressed, guilt-ridden person clutching to what once was. If you can’t remember who you are, get to know yourself now. What do you love about life?

6. Create separation.

Hope can be a terrible thing if it keeps you stuck in the past. It’s not easy to end all contact when you feel attached to someone. Breaking off the friendship might feel like ruining your chances at knowing love again.

It’s helped me to change my hopes to broader terms. So instead of wanting a specific person to re-enter your life, want love and happiness, whatever that may look like.

You will know love again. You won’t spend the rest of your life alone. In one way or another, you will meet all kinds of people and create all kinds of possibilities for relationships—if you forgive yourself, let go, and open yourself up, that is.

7. Let yourself feel.

Losing a relationship can feel like a mini-death, complete with a grieving process.

First, you’re shocked and in denial. You don’t believe it’s over and you hold out hope. Next, you feel hurt and guilty. You should have done things differently. If you did you wouldn’t be in this pain.

Then, you feel angry and maybe even start bargaining. It would be different if you gave it a second go. You wouldn’t be so insecure, defensive, or demanding. Then you might feel depressed and lonely as it hits you how much you’ve lost.

Eventually, you start accepting what happened and shift your focus from the past to the future.

You have to go through the feelings as they come, but you can help yourself get through them faster. For example, if you’re dwelling in guilt, make forgiving yourself a daily practice. Read books on it, meditate about it, or write about it in a journal.

8. Remember the benefits of moving on.

When you let go, you give yourself peace.

Everything about holding on is torturous. You regret, you feel ashamed and guilty, you rehash, you obsess—it’s all an exercise in suffering. The only way to feel peace is to quiet the thoughts that threaten it.

Letting go opens you up to new possibilities.

When you’re holding onto something, you’re less open to giving and receiving anything else.

If you had your arms wrapped around a huge bucket of water, you wouldn’t be able to give anything other than that bucket, or grab anything else that came your way. You might even struggle breathing because you’re clutching something so all-encompassing with so much effort.

You have to give to receive. Give love to get love, share joy to feel joy. It’s only possible if you’re open and receptive.

9. Recognize and replace fearful thoughts.

When you’re holding onto a relationship, it’s usually more about attachment than love. Love wants for the other person’s happiness. Fear wants to hold onto whatever appears to make you happy so you don’t have to feel the alternative.

You might not recognize these types of fearful thoughts because they become habitual. Some examples include: I’ll never feel loved again. I’ll always feel lonely. I am completely powerless.

Replace those thoughts with: All pain passes eventually. It will be easier if I help them pass by being mindful. I can’t always control what happens to me, but I can control how I respond to it.

10. Embrace impermanence.

Nothing in life lasts forever. Every experience and relationship eventually runs its course.

The best way to embrace impermanence is to translate it into action. Treat each day as a life unto itself. Appreciate the people in front of you as if it were their last day on earth. Find little things to gain in every moment instead of dwelling on what you lost.

When I feel like clinging to experiences and people, I remind myself the unknown can be a curse or an adventure. It’s up to me whether or not I’m strong and positive enough to see it as the latter.

It took me eight years to work through my feelings about relationships and letting go; but I am happy to report I am fifteen months into a healthy relationship, standing firmly on my own two feet. In fact, last night he flew from California to Boston, where I’ve been visiting for the last two weeks, to spend time with me and my family.

I don’t regret the time when I was single, but I know now I could have hurt less and created even more possibilities for myself if I put more effort into completely letting go. I hope you’ll make that choice.

Art, Graphics & Video › Re: Nikon D90 With Two Prime Lenses - Should I Buy? by deturla(op): 3:03pm On Feb 10, 2016
VillageBoi:
The 7D is a good camera and it was a wise choice to go with the zoom lens for starters as you have a much wider focal range. One of the commenters mentioned getting a flash - you probably will need one as 'stock' zooms are not fast. As time goes on you can look at getting a 50mm f1.8 or preferably the f1.4 for low-light shooting. 50mm on a 7D which has a crop factor of 1.6 is 'sort of' like using an 85mm on a 'full-frame' camera such as the Canon 5D versions and is considered a very good 'portrait' lens.
Best of luck with everything.
Thanks a lot bro.....i appreciate, I'm actually thinking of going for a 70-200mm lens later on! What do u think?
Art, Graphics & Video › Life Races!!! by deturla(op): 6:27am On Feb 10, 2016
I was accredited to be a part of the 2016 Lagos Marathon Media on Saturday, 6 February, and so i decided to play with my newly 'acquired' Canon 7D. Fiddling with the Cam i came about this pic. I dont know what it means to you, but below was my interpretation:

"We were born and raised differently; we only learnt togetherness by our coming together which was per chance. Our lives are different, so is the lady who conceived us.

There is this synchronization that friendship and companionship brings to us. The effrontery to challenge situations and friendship. The ability to walk together to achieve great things. The union and fusion of different ideas, theories to earn same conclusion.
The concept of individuality in togetherness is so unique as it is different. We can start our journey in life at same time, same place, same pace, and subject to same conditions.

However, our rise to self actualization would be different regardless of whether the journey commenced at the same time, location, heading in the same direction.

Therefore, my friend, my friend, do not compare my life with yours, and I would neither do that. In this journey of Life, of fulfillment and contentment, we run different races……

See you at the top!"

Nairaland General › Lagos Positions Smes For Economic Diversification by deturla(op): 2:20pm On Feb 08, 2016
The Lagos State government has put in place a framework to ginger Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) to perform optimally in a conducive environment, its Commissioner for Commerce, Industry and Cooperatives, Prince Rotimi Ogunleye, has said.

He said because of the vantage position of state as the economic hub for sub Sahara Africa, the state government through the ministry was determined to boost SMEs to contribute to industrial production in the state and create a forum for the diversification of the Nigerian economy.

He said as part of the ministry’s efforts at getting Medium, Small, and Micro Enterprises (MSMEs) to function and survive into maturity, “We have the corporate assembly, which we are going to do in this first quarter to call the operators in the Organised Private Sector (OPS) to meet with Lagos State Governor Akinwumi Ambode so that they can have a parley to discuss various issues affecting them, which can be tackled through government.

The programme is the fifth in the series to be hosted by the governor. The Commissioner said the ministry was also working with the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) to look at MSMEs’ capacity building and production.

“We have the industrial and enterprise zones for the micro operators. We have the industrial park for the small scale operators and we have the industrial estate for the medium operators,” he said.

Prince Ogunleye noted that the industrial parks are scattered in various parts of the state such as Ijanikin, Badagry, Matori 1 and 2, Yaba, Imota, Igberigbe, Ikorodu, Igbonla in Epe, Ibeju Lekki and others. According to him, the efforts are in the hope of moving the nation away from the current mono product system centred on oil.

He said, for instance, that the Lekki Free Zone has been specifically packaged to address that. He added that the Lekki Free Zone Development Company is saddled with the development of the project, which covers 16, 500 hectares of land in the Lekki area of the state.

“Right now, we are in the first phase, which covers 3, 000 hectares,” he said, adding that the agreement is 60/40 equity sharing ratio between the Lagos State Government and the Chinese consortium of China Africa Lekki Investment Limited (CALIL). While CALIL has 60 per cent shareholding, Lagos State has 40 per cent.

He further explained that in the Lekki free zone enterprise, Lagos State Government is not directed involved, rather she has a limited liability company known as Lekki Worldwide Investment Limited that represents her interest and also seek investors all over the world to invest in the free zone.

“You know free zone is a place where companies can operate without inhibitions that you see in the larger hostile environment. There is a lot of work going on there. A lot of companies are coming in there to invest and to produce,” the Commissioner told The Nation, adding that the State Government also has the Lekki Deep seaport in the same axis, which is an equity arrangement between Lagos State and Toran Group, a Singaporan consortium.

“The deep seaport has been specially packaged to take care of heavy vessels that may like to bring raw materials to Lekki free zone or take finished products out of the country for exports and to avoid gridlock at Apapa and Tin can ports.

“The deep sea port is not only a Lagos affair; it is a tripartite equity sharing between Toran, which has 61 per cent, Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) 20 per cent, and Lagos State Government, 18.15 per cent,” he explained.

The Commissioner listed other development projects around the axis to aid the industrialisation of the state to include the Lekki International Airport and Dangote Fertilizer and Petrochemical Plants. He said massive work is already going on at the Dangote refinery, which is not in the free zone but in that corridor. The conglomerate, he said, already has a power plant that is functioning and guaranteeing steady power supply.

The ministry under Ogunleye’s charge was formally Ministry of Commerce and Industry. Cooperative was with Agric Ministry and they were called Ministry of Agric and Cooperative. But the Commissioner said Cooperative has been added to the ministry to change the orientation of cooperative from solely depending on agriculture and agro allied businesses.

“The ministry is like an enabling ministry to assist the MSMEs to grow the economy. So, the addition of Cooperatives can broaden their scope and get them involved in the administration’s dream for massive transformation of the state,” he said.

Deedeesblog would be taking a step further in ensuring that SMEs take maximum advantage of the social media for business improvement.

From research, Deedeesblog noticed that despite increased awareness on the importance of social media in propelling businesses to greater heights. It has been noticed that a lot of SMEs are not tapping into this wealth of opportunities.

Therefore, if you are a small scale enterprise or an entrepreneur and you are looking for a medium to speak to the world about what you do and how you started, your dream and vision; so that others that intend to venture into your line of business can learn from you.

At the same time, you intend to use the medium to pivot your business to the world.
