Why the Vanguard again. Is there no other media house in Nigeria that can reach Iyabo at this time?

PoliticsRe: I Did Not Write Any Letter To My Father-iyabo Obasanjo by Dewze(m): 3:43pm On Dec 18, 2013
An educated and exposed person such as Iyabo would have sent a letter of rebutal to Vanguard first and then would have gone to a 'tv' station to air the truth.

Come on guys, why would she choose a radio station to rebute such a grave claim? If truly she did not write that letter, I believe OBJ by now would have taken her by the hand to a tv station to say so.

Just my thots though. Cause this politicians are equaly magicians.

If i lived close to that area. As a sharp Igbo boy, i'll liase with my ever sharp igbo guys, cordone off the area and charge N200 for access to the river.
#millionaireMind
it is obvious that you are not an Igbo person. A typical ibgo man will not cordone off the area like you said, he will instead find a means to scoop up as much as he can, give it a fine package and then travel off to other tribes to sell, while aswell allowing others with same intention to have their share.

The method you have so described is what I find more prevalent amidst the people of Lagos.

Pls get the title right. What the present title implies is that Google Nigeria has the highest amount of searches in 2013 compared to the Google of other nations.

What it should say is 'Google Nigeria's top searches of 2013'.

Pls the mods on this forum should be tasked with correcting the titles of posts before putting them on front page. Misleading titles like this occur too often on this forum.
CultureRe: Canadian Igbo Jew Explains Why Igbo Are Jews by Dewze(m): 7:03pm On Dec 15, 2013
Yujin: The belief that Ndigbo are of Jewish origin is not exactly true. We might have some Jewish blood but are certainly not Jews. Firstly, I'd say; 'no people are exactly made up of one homogeneous group'. It is normally a mixture of different people with just a dominant group given the whole mix an identity. Even the Israelis as at Jesus' time were already a mix people but chose to retain their traceable lineage(Judah) in history.
As for present day Ndigbo, we can say we have Jewish blood running in us but we remain Ndigbo just like some group of Ndigbo could say they have bini or Ibibio blood in them but remain Ndigbo. Those of us who feel strong the ties with Israel should celebrate it(if it deserves celebrating) but shouldn't be to the detriment of our present identity. That our forefathers practiced circumcision on the eight day prior to the advent of the europeans speak a lot. That a man can inherit his brother's wife if she is bereaved still being childless(same as the Jews) so as to help propagate his brother's lineage is not a coincidence. There some other ones I can't remember now.
All in all, the present Jews are peopled by many europeans who have no blood-link with the original people. Those part of our ancestors didn't originate from these ones hence I see no reason why some people say 'inferiority complex'. So, those people hurling insults on Ndigbo should desist as even the claim itself does no harm to them unless there is something I to know.

I dnt believe it tho, its either unreal or it was acted.
Dnt mind me
this is not a matter of possessiveness, it is a matter of protectiveness. You need to ask Hillary Clinton what she went through during the Bill/Lewinski saga to understand what Michelle is trying to prevent.

You forget that one of the most important duty of a good woman is to protect her man from himself.

Mind you, that last kiss on the hand is Obama simply saying ''thank you for using your brain honey, I kinda lost mine at that moment''.

vicoloni: I had refrained from joining any school of thought on Nigeria's political arena for many reasons but after reading this piece I am forced to express my utter disappointment and disgust in the way Mr. President is running the affairs of this great nation called Nigeria.
Even under military rule, Nigeria used to be much feared and respected by other African countries and most western states but what do we have today? Widespread disdain for anything Nigeria even among the ranks of its citizens.

In a saner society, the 'vote of no confidence' letter written by Mr. Obasanjo alone is more than enough to make a president resign!

My 10 cents!!
are you saying South Africa ignored Nigeria because of Jonathan? Wow! Mind you, this thread is not realy abt Nigeria (even if the topic says it is) but about the bigger and more significant Africa and its leadership.

Sheykul Islam: what is dis one saying? The Op have succeded in telling u "what he thinks" about the Qur'an and islam not what is the Qur'an and islam. Dats the point tbaba and vexdacool are trying to tell u.
just like you have succeeded in telling us what you think about him (usermane). Should I say the difference btwn the both of you is that he(usermane) has done his with scriptures and verses 'directly' from the Quran. Not from any sunah or hadith which offcourse can be argued or disputed, depending on which side/sect of Islam you belong to. He has intentionaly and sensibly picked this verses from the book that is at least universally accepted by all muslims to be true and perfect. You should aswell bring out 'Quranic' verses that speak contrary to what the OP stated.

Al-baqir has admiriably tried to dispute some of the OPs statements. One of the problems I ve with his points is that they are mostly based on this same disputable sunnahs and hadiths. Example is trying to explain the superiority of Mohammed over other prophets by an obviously hyped interpretaion of the quran by another fellow believer. I don't see anywhere in those verses where it is mentioned Mohammed is directly or even indirectly greater that other prophets (all I see in those verses are exaltations and not positional status/rank). Al-baqir mentioned that Mohammed was refered to as a lamp(light). Just wondering if he has read that Christ Jesus was also called the light of the world.

EducationRe: When President Jonathan Was A Lecturer... by Dewze(m): 6:51pm On Nov 10, 2013
Pennywise: Jonathan never said he lectured at uniport in his CV. Even though you have been on NL since 2011, all your posts tend to be of the money-making kind. Are you seeking patronage from sincere nigerian? You want to join the 40-man lap top crew?

I have seen quite a few Nigerian presidents and leaders in my young age- northerners and southerners alike. Their honesty and probity have all been questioned but never has the intelligence, sanity and competence been called to question the way this president's is being questioned.

None of them expended any where near the kind of resources this govt spends on the media and 'new media' to launder the image of the president and his wife.

Goodluck Jonathan came to power by divine providence. He was never supposed to be president. Historically, we have had very little expectations of perfomance of any new Nigerian president. That 'little' has now turned to zero. More importantly the casual manner this president is handling issues of corruption and massive theft of public funds shows he has very little regard for the Nigerian people, the House of Assembly and even the military. His attitude towards these scandals some of which threaten the integrity of the Nigerian state is to maintain silence and wait for it to dissipate from public consciousness. But that is a flawed logic because it never really does. It only sinks deeper to reinforce the perception of the people that Jonathan is an incompetent f00l. Only he can change this perception not these paid hands on NL and twitter. And the moment that happens, he will see how gladly Nigerians will warm up to him.
Buhari fought corruption during his time. How has Nigerians warmed up to him so far?

It is like you do not know the country you are in.

Nigerians do not want to stop corruption. What Nigerians are truly crying to see is a scapegoat.

I do not believe there is the Islamic knowledge and faith where it is said that God had designed or even mandated the woman to be less jealous than the man?

A good leader and a good instructor will lead and instruct you by his own practical examples. If you indeed have been empowered to instruct, then you are a leader, and then a leader can only either lead God's people closer to God, or lead them farther away from God. So, lead by allowing a brother to come and enjoy all the goods that you want for yourself. put your own heart on that jealousy scale and show to Allah how much it really weights.

Is there any where in Islamic knowledge that it is said that God had designed or even mandated the woman to be, or even feel less jealous than the man?

Those of you that are being payed to sell off Nigeria and the black race by coming on a world forum to slander and shame your own people, you will loose.

The Yoruba and Igbo connection is a massive hit. There is no amount of tribal bad belle spirits that can kill that. If you like gather on NL and display your foolinesh to the world until you are naked in the gutter drunk of it. The Phino and Olamide connection, unarguably the biggest HIPHOP track to ever come out of Africa, is a warning to you fools. HipHop we know is the mind of the youths. It is a bridge builder amongst them. The true language that the youths in the streets speak and understand. The streets where real people exists. The real youths of this nation that know what is really happening in the the real world. You bunch are just automated machines placed in front of a computer screen and programmed to type to whatever command is given you. And so you do not know, because offcourse the codes has not yet been written unto your chip(cheap) brains, that ''The IGBO and YORUBA connection is a massive hit''.
So these youths are not listening to your hates. Instead, they have their headphones on, experiencing the birth of a new Nigeria and a new people. Someday you and your masters will be forced to function or die with that.

God pass una.

For the rest of you that do this out of mere stupidity (it is a fun game) or understandably out of a sheer sense of loyalty, I say, it is well.

That is the reality of the black race for you.
The descendants of the black slaves living in the white world today were formaly told that the white man came into Africa, tied our hands behind our backs and the stole away our youths and our dignity. That was the story they use to know. Not until recently, as they grew more enlightened and educated did they start to learn the real truth about their history. The bitter truth that their own forefathers were actualy captured, tied and then sold off to the white man by their own people.

Nigeria was created to be a leader for Africa.

Mine was the question asked by my cousin. The young lad asked me how did his mum got a big tummy. The said mum was pregnant. I told him his mum was expecting a baby.
He then further asked how do people get pregnant. I was speechless for few seconds. Not that I didn't know the answer but how would I explain to a young boy the role sex plays in pregnancy formation without polluting his pure mind.
how does the knowledge of a purely natural means of procreation pollute a pure mind?

It is that which you hide from the mind that pollutes it the most.

That was why of all the trees planted in the garden of Eden, Adam and Eve had no 'deep' interest in any except that which has been kept from them.

So pls in case of another time. Explain to him with all honesty and a clear conscience. The child will not be aroused by your words. Infact, it is yourself that you would have to worry about.

Truckpusher: That school isn't just a school but a pointer to our value system here in the South of Nigeria when it comes to dealing with a people of different region and way of life because we believe in 'live and lets live'...

That school if built and pursued judiciously since the 1940s,50s,60s,70s,80s,and even before the dawn of this new century would have saved Nigeria a lot of headache that we are having today but i thank God that a people that has been so marginalized and left on the back bench of Nigeria's politics and policies has produced a man that said to himself 'i'll not repay evil for evil' neither will i live in the past ugly history of animosity created by these invaders from North Africa.

If Nigeria remains one single undivided entity in the next 40 yrs you'll begin to see the vision behind that school.........you don't tackle violent sworn enemies with violence but with wisdom you'll command the harvest of his farm produce, it may tarry but it's more better this way than through the nozzle of a gun.

Nigeria must rise and take her place in this world and not always being ridiculously referred to as; that most populous West African nation that is bordered by the north of Africa and resides gigantically by the banks of the Atlantic ocean in a deep slumber. The den of thieves ,spammers ,prostitutes and all manner of dishonest people and a ground for a grand scale corruption and thievery that is unprecedented in modern history. It is just a matter of time because two can't walk unless they agree.

Nigeria's greatest problem is about bridging the gaps of limitation that has befallen us and once these ideological gaps are bridged the Boko Haram will not thrive because they are the real sons and daughters of an example of a real peaceful co-existence,the Niger Delta militants will not find sympathizers because there will no more warmongering fellows left among them but a happy and contented people, the MASSOB group will lay down their arms willingly because they will want to go back to commerce and production which is what they know how to do best and the OPC will teach our children the love for education because this is who they are and every one of our generations will read our history and call us uncivilized because this where we are right now by clinging to greed, ethnic bigotry ,tribal jingoism and all ills that deters development of a people.

Mark my words this house of the black man must stand the test of time and that responsibility lies with us......Build Nigeria destroy Nigeria it's all a collective effort.
I must confess that I have not seen such brilliance in this forum before such has this. Though I am not quite happy with you picking out the Fulanis like you did (every major tibe has contributed their quota), but you were indeed right. I think every major tribe (yoruba, igbo, hausa/fulani) has been the major problem of this country. It is not suprising that it is taking a person from the minority to bring (or at least begin) that needed change we have craved in this country. I would love a situation whereby no major tribe will rule over this country for at least the next 20yrs or more.

God bless Nigeria, God bless the black race.

Imagine he has a problem with an arab reading the Qur'an and still has to go deep into the explanation (tafsir), because he feels the arab man can understand the text? But I'm so sure he must have passed through a level of schooling for him to have written a well constructed text. Then let's ask him why he attended those classes since he understands english enough for him to have gone through that textbook on his own.

His christian supporters should also think that they have been foolish to attend sunday schools and bible colleges, instead of reading the bible themselves. Please react to my earlier post and let's see if you've learnt something.

Don't mind username, he's just one of those impersonators that claim to be a muslim. ALLAH has spoken of shaitan in suratu yaasin 60-63 and his mission of leading so many people astray, our mr username is just one of his devices, so muslims BEWARE!!!

IslamRe: Ten Misconceptions Among Muslims by Dewze(m): 8:17pm On Nov 01, 2013
tbaba1234: Salam,

I am writing this with the hope that you are willing to listen and revert. What you have written show a lack of education in the Islamic sciences with all due respect and it is not necessarily your fault. I am writing so that you do not misinform people unknowingly.

Hopefully, with the evidence provided you will change some of these ill-advised views and i would also acknowledge the ones that are correct.

You should not be concerned about pleasing people, you must be concerned about the truth. I was going to send a private message but i think it is important for others to see this as well so please forgive me for that.

You seem to have stated your personal opinions with very little evidences.

i. ISLAMIC NAMES : mostly incorrect and i use my word very carefully. Let's start with something correct.

A convert to Islam do not have to change their names unless it has a meaning that is not good. One of my imams was named charles. I have muslim friends with names like Joel, etc...

The messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) did change the names of some new muslims in cases where the names have bad meanings.
For Instance:

i. 'Asiya (Disobedient) to Jamila (Beautiful)

Ibn 'Umar reported that Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) changed the name of 'Asiya (Disobedient) and said: You are Jamila (i. e. good and handsome). Ahmad (one of the narrators) narrated it with a slight variation of wording. Muslim :: Book 25 : Hadith 5332

ii. Abdul-Shams (Slave of the sun) to Abdul-Rahman (Slave of the Merciful God) - Abu Hurairah

There are some other examples:

Narrated AbuWahb, Hazn ibn AbuWahb:

The Prophet (peace_be_upon_him) asked: What is your name? He replied: Hazn (rugged). He said: You are Sahl (smooth). He said: No, smooth is trodden upon and disgraced. Sa'id said: I then thought that ruggedness would remain among us after it. AbuDawud said: The Prophet (peace_be_upon_him) changed the names al-'As, Aziz, Atalah, Shaytan, al-Hakam, Ghurab, Hubab, and Shihab and called him Hisham.

He changed the name Harb (war) and called him Silm (peace).

He changed the name al-Munba'ith (one who lies) and called him al-Mudtaji' (one who stands up).
He changed the name of a land Afrah (barren) and called it Khadrah (green).
He changed the name Shi'b ad-Dalalah (the mountain path of a stray), the name of a mountain path and called it Shi'b al-Huda (mountain path of guidance).
He changed the name Banu az-Zinyah (children of fornication) and called them Banu ar-Rushdah (children of those who are on the right path),
and changed the name Banu Mughwiyah (children of a woman who allures and goes astray), and called them Banu Rushdah (children of a woman who is on the right path).
AbuDawud said: I omitted the chains of these for the sake of brevity. ( Dawud :: Book 41 : Hadith 4938 )

Therefore if the names does not have a bad meaning then it doesn't matter. You do not have to change to an Arabic name but the Arabic is very important. Trust me, you have no clue what is lost in translation. Translations only give you something of the meaning. A feel of the meaning.

As regards the name Allah..

First of all, the Quran is only the Quran in Arabic... Your english translation is not your Quran.

Alif Lam Ra These are the verses of the Scripture that makes things clear––We have sent it down as an Arabic Quran so that you [people] may understand. (Surah 12:1-2)

An Arabic Quran...

So We have sent down the Quran to give judgement in the Arabic language.
If you were to follow their desires, after the knowledge that has come to you, you would have no one to guard you or protect you from God. (Surah 13:37)

We have sent the Quran down in the Arabic tongue and given all kinds of warnings in it, so that they may beware or take heed– (Surah 20:113)

Truly, this Quran has been sent down by the Lord of the alamin: the Trustworthy Spirit brought it down to your heart [Prophet], so that you could bring warning in a clear Arabic tongue. (Surah 26:192-195)

I could go on and on,... Fact: the Quran is in Arabic, not in english or spanish or french...

So you might ask, but we have translations right?? Translations should do right??

Well, not quite.. Actually translations do not even begin to capture the Quran..

Just one word: Al rahman.....
imagine if you had written all these response in Arabic. It would have made no sense to me and therefore have no impact at all on me, no matter how deep they are. That is the point the OP is trying to make.

Infact the OPs write up has given me some sense of faith in Islam far more than any of u other so called teachers have done on this thread.
