I stayed in Ilorin for a year or so and I can confirm that the Ilorin emirates is more Fulani than Yoruba.
The fact that they answer Yoruba names seems to me like a survival strategy and it has been deceptively successful.

The strongest tool the emirates are using to stay is Islam as it somewhat creates a kind if unified front for the Yoruba and Fulani, with the claim and practice of the Emirates following Islamic traditions. Students in African(Nigerian) schools hardly get bullied by their peers (except maybe in the universities). They are mostly bullied by their school seniors.

If you do your research well you would find out that most of these foreign children that commit suicides were bullied by their peers and not by their seniors. Peer pressure will push a child to suicide much quicker than being bullied by older students.

you ate very right there. There is really nothing like a Muslim or Christian name. What we have are Arabic and Jewish names. As you have pointed out, Mohammed is not a muslim/islamic name.

It is a beautiful thing that this thread made it to the FrontPage. Must confess that I have been a bit more enlightened by this thread about our brothers up north. Like there are some names here I didn't know were traditional names. I've always believed they were Islamic.

Pls we want more info of our brothers in the north. I believe The more we know ourselves the less tension that exists btwn us.

I feel nairaland has been too south west. We need a more national feel on this forum.
