PoliticsRe: A Nairalander's Ilorin To Lagos Train Experience by DisGuy: 1:27am On Feb 08, 2013
redsun: Thee are many natural factors that inhibits fast trains in tropical Africa, heat most especially. To embark on the projects are high capital intensive, which is not really necessary if the slow trains can work properly, orderly and efficiently it is a nice way if crisscrossing the country, taking one's time and enjoying the scenery.

We don't have to be on the fast road to nowhere like the west and the emerging Asian empires, but efficiently comfortable and independent through proper management and allocation of resources.
unfortunately rail transport is not and should not only for be for tourism/leisurely travels; they should compete effectively with other means of transportation for business to thrive, spending huge sums of money on rail just to enjoy the 'scenery' is not what we can afford at this point

engineering deals with natural factors, ask South Africa wink

Hope the standard guage track being built is being ring fenced, it will be better than this 30mph

How much sluggish? 5x worse than it is now?

Heavy flooding washed away some tracks? You see the truth, for flooding to wash off rail tracks, it mush have deteriorated so badly, now it has gone through FULL restoration where it can't be washed off by flood, isn't that an achievement?

That it's new don't make them super efficient or top notch, either way, we're getting there. Rail in the next five years after GEJ will have improved drastically.
not that i know, same speed as now really, it was only interrupted by the washed tracks after niger or thereabout

okay... you know this for sure!

ps ive been meaning to ask you when last you were in nigeria, not that it matters though

Rome was not built in a day. If OH BEE JAY kick started the NRC, if only Yaradua was not impossed on us and if he actually kickstarted the project, GEJ would have improved on it, this is just a case study, given a chance in 2015, I know this great man, this GEJ will convert Nigeria to China before 8yrs tenure runs out. Lets beg this great man, to contest in 2015.

erm the trains were working albeit sluggisly back then, apparently some heavy flooding washed away some tracks in the midlands, and to the best of my knowledge the previous government actually ordered the engines being used today from GE

PoliticsRe: A Nairalander's Ilorin To Lagos Train Experience by DisGuy: 11:26pm On Feb 07, 2013
pro01: Corruption, incompetence, and mismanagement has never been a 'government' problem. It is a Nigerian problem. So people expect GEJ to stay in the Illorin rail station and personally ensure that the tickets are sold correctly and that everything else works normally. Incredible.
redsun: For real? This is not the government problem now,it is the management. Average everyday nigerians behaves like wild animals and a situation like that can never encourage good leadership.

All have to be accountable and responsible for their actions, including the railway staffs and passengers.
unfortunately this is a government controlled sector , under the management of goverment appointed individuals who after several and widespread safety breaches- overcrowding, passengers on top of trains- are not doing anything to reduce or eradicate this problems effectively at the early stages then the blame will go back to the top- Government!!

any particular reason why you are using an agent?

just explain everything in your application including your previous refusal explaing the oversight-
since you are now married and travelling together i think it would be better to use an updated passport-still including your previous application refusal

your ties to the country, how you will fund your travel and account details would carry more weight

how was your previous refusal worded?

@op,
Perhaps they should hang the photo of queen Elizabeth on the wall in your bank/office in Nigeria. Lets see how that will make you feel cool

Those photos are symbols of sovereignty and authority. You don't like them, you vote them out.

Jimmy Boy: For banks, it is not optional, it is a regulatory matter. If CBN inspectors come to your branch and the two pictures are not hung on the wall, then the bank would be liable to a fine.

FreeGlobe: Nigeria is doomed! Of all things happening in the cesspit called Nigeria, this is what somebody is worried about? Would it matter to you if the governor is not corrupt and competent? How can we have a competent and non corrupt governor? It is not particular to Nigeria too. Again Nigeria is doomed with the petty mindseted population it has.
okay sir, i know it common in China or Korea, i just want to know the reason why you will put a picture of a government official in your hall?
PoliticsRe: Hanging Pictures Of Presidents/governors In Offices? by DisGuy:
you guys should forget the fact they are mostly thieves or incompetent, answer the question if you can...

private businesses even add a pic of their latest ceo/md

one picture of President, one picture of the state governor and picture of the owner or MD undecided

is this corporate praise singing or is this to ward off tax/police officers ?
