CareerRe: 5 Work-from-home Jobs In Nigeria by DisGuy: 8:41pm On Dec 18, 2012
Now that we are fully immersed in the digital sea where more than half our lives are dependent on technology and the internet, more companies and employees nowadays look out to work-from-home jobs where they can stay at home and finish their deliverables. Transportation costs and other expenses going to the workplace are highly minimized without compromising on the income. The growth of work-from-home jobs has thrived in recent years no doubt, especially as humans constantly strive to achieve a work-life balance.

Many companies have focused on hiring experts who can work with schedules and meet deadlines but not necessarily be present in the office. There’s been a proliferation in the virtual workspace this century. Deals are sealed via teleconferences, employers recruit via social media and there’s an increasing demand for convenience at work. Countries like Nigeria have embraced this concept and implemented it to be part of their organizations’ culture. In this article, we will talk about the top 5 work-from-home jobs in Nigeria.

If you are either currently unemployed or not satisfied with what you’re doing, consider these work-from-jobs to help you enjoy a better life in the comfort of your home.

Freelance Writer

Anyone can pass contents online. Submission of written articles does not require being physically situated in a company’s office. Thus, being a freelance writer is one of the most common work-from-home jobs in Nigeria.

Qualifications are basic. A freelance writer should have a good portfolio of written works; His/her writing must be compelling enough to hold many readers’ attention. As well, writers must be dynamic to be able to provide explanations in a user-friendly manner rather than in a technical fashion. Of course, as content will be posted on the web, applicants must have a good understanding of Internet concepts and possess familiarity on optimizing content online.

Often, writers are to provide five to 10 articles in a week with a vast array of topics given by the publisher. A 700-word article usually is equivalent to $3, while a 1500-word article costs $5. In most areas, flexible rates are applied. Some even provide $60 per article, depending on the depth of the topic and the set of requirements.

Translator

Quite similar to a freelance writer, a translator writes articles with the same content only translated from original articles written in a different language. Many Nigerians are known to fluently speak and write in second languages asides English. Some of the more popular languages are; Chinese, French, German, Japanese and Portuguese. Companies are in favour of applicants who know one or two of these languages. If you’re more proficient as a linguist and know more than three languages that have high demands for translation jobs, you can really earn a decent pay out of this translating job.

Sales Representative

Work-from-home sales representatives are in charge of information and communication technologies services such as registration of domains, hosting and data center services, setting up of corporate email accounts, etc. Earnings are both commission-based and salary-based. To close sales, as a sales rep, you will be expected to perform mass mailing, data mining for leads and cold calling. Numbers and data will either be provided by your company or researched by your own.

You will also be responsible for accounts negotiation, online presentation and closing of deals. At the latter part, sales reps take up billing, collection of payment and support tasks. Hence, candidates must possess sales experience in the ICT industry with great technical background.

Virtual Assistant

The job of a virtual assistant spans from research work to support that comes with helpdesk tasks. If you are thinking of working as a virtual assistant, be ready for companies to assess if you are good in speaking and writing in English – being the lingua franca in Nigeria. This online job requires a polite tone in answering and making support calls, handling e-mails of customers and other secretarial responsibilities. This administrative role pays up to about $10 per hour.

Graphic Designer

Graphics designing jobs are hot in demand now even much more than it was 2 years ago. If you are skilled in designing graphics such as logos and animations, you can stay at home and earn up to $60 an hour. A vast portfolio of creative designs and Flash works is your ticket to getting hired by companies involved in online work sites. Include web designs and get as much as an additional pay of $50 per hour. If you are capable of taking clear photos, it is highly suggested to include your experience as a photographer in your resume. Companies are generally generous in paying for photographs they can’t get elsewhere to speak for their brand in a unique way.

Work-from-home jobs in Nigeria do not necessarily need you to be computer literate at the start. Companies may offer trainings and evaluate your performance to match the skills and experiences the jobs require. However, a top requirement for such jobs remains an excellent time management skill. You may also have challenges with availability of resources and you have to do an exhaustive research to avoid fake or ill promised opportunities.

But in all, there are great work-from-home jobs with excellent pay and it all boils down to the core skills you possess.

Kukute1: @OP it still depends on you. What is your current salary? any prospect or opportunity of being staffed permanently in your current job? For my own experience, I was in your shoe 8years ago. I had excellent grade in my field and went for a contract job in an oil exploration company in nigeria. 2 yrs later I wanted to quit for masters/PhD or continue the job and get married but after serious thought and prayers, I got married, got an international job that triple my nigeria salary just 3months into marriage. Now, I have joined another international company in a senior position. I can pay for my studies to any level. In a nut shell, your current job experience matters alot. If you know you are not getting marketable experience in your current job, then think otherwise but if yes stick to it and send your cvs out and plan for your marriage. There is always natural blessings attached to marriage. Above all, pray fervently for divine guidiance. It is well with you.

she never mentions names, same way she said 'SOME; people who fraudelently claimed money are paying back - why cant she mention the names of these companies? She wouldnt do this where she is coming from, now shes hiding under the nigerian system

In fact; she's trying to boost her CV, you know how this would sound to the yanks, since she couldn't go the Ribadu and Dora route of getting someone to shoot at her car grin

Save some money, buy tickets for both of you

Tell your Gf/Fiance to apply for scholarship also, you just never know

Be it as it may, if you really love your girl, then you guys should do your introduction before you leave for your graduate degree. Without that, you can kiss your relationship "goodbye" cos there are lots of "fine babes" that will make you forget your girlfriend in weeks.
Life actually is about taking risk but it is good to take a calculate risk to avoid intense damage if things backfire. Let me relate your situation to the experience of someone I know very well. I am sure you will learn from what happen to him.
He was in his early thirties in 2009 and was working with a monthly salary of 135K per month. As he was thinking about marriage, he had a scholarship for his master program and was kind of confused. The guy was very intelligent and practical in his decision. As a true Christian and not the so called fake brothers we have around these days, I believed he prayed and took a calculated risk. He accepted the scholarship, applied for leave of work without pay for two years and completed the introduction of his fiancee who was then in 100L in the University-a very pretty damsel (who says there are no virtuous girls in Nigeria, the girl was 21/22 years then).
He told me that whenever he finishes his master degree, if he has no work abroad he will return back to his work in Nigeria but if opportunity arises after the master degree, he will resign finally from his former company.in both ways, he would loose nothing. On the other hand, I discussed with him about his pretty damsel (his fiancee) if she would be able to wait. He said my friend I trust that girl as a real Christian and I will try my best to encourage her to remain virtuous. But if she couldn't it means it was not meant to be. Throughout the period of his master degree, he kept communication line between his former company and his fiancee in Nigeria University. He planned for a post MSc life both for Nigeria and Abroad. He was so realistic and yet so faithful and optimistic. When he finished two years later, He has five international offers in a reputable company and institutions even at that age, that he has to be making choices, I mean in Europe and America. His fiancee on the other hand was serious with her academic and never looked elsewhere with all her beauty. Some Nigerian girls are really virtuous but I believed the rampancy of bad ones makes us assume every Nigerian girl is promiscuous. To cut the long story short, they wedded last year as the wife was in her final year. They lived abroad at the moment as expatriate
I believed you can learn one or two things from the short story of my personal friend I just related to you. Plan, pray, be realistic and yet be optimistic. Try and take a calculated risk.

I think delay is part of the tactics they employ

most people overstaying don't want to be on the wrong side of the law
they either give them the option of helping out with their identity or remain 'detained'
until they have concentrate evidence, they will give all sorts of advice and sweeteners like
helping you recover some of your cash/property including your certificates; link you up with agencies or
charities that will help you re-integrate into the system back home or start a business

I think after agreeing to their request they will get an easy ride from the Nigerian consulate

LEADER CHIMAT: Landlady Sues Dead Tenant – Laughter in Court

The landlady, Mrs. Funmilayo Oshinaike of 5, Araromi Street, Ejigbo, Lagos, dragged her dead tenant to the court to recover arrears of rent totalling N450, 000 and take possession of the apartment.

Elizabeth Agunbiade, wife of the respondent, who was present, told the court that her husband died eight years ago and her landlady knew, but still went ahead to file the suit.

She said she was not served with any court paper.

But the landlady told the court that she filed the suit in Agunbiade’s name because he was his tenant.

P.M.NEWS learnt that after tenant’s death, his family continued to live in the apartment. Two years ago, the rent was hiked and the widow was unable to pay.

justwise: Book for a hotel accommodation for 2days, ibis hotel in Portsmouth is just next building to Portsmouth university buildings.

Walking down to fratton park area of Portsmouth and look for a house, its about 15-20mins walk from the university, many students live in those area and university bus takes student to those places free.

Contact the international office and ask for the list of registered private landlords and have a look at the rooms and prices then contact them to make appointment for viewing.
you can also do this before arriving, make contact phone and emails, so you can start viewing as soon as you check into the hotel on arrival

Don't know what immigrations has to do with medicine but some countries will require you to have doctors prescription for antibiotics

if he has symptoms of malaria, he can always go to his nearest 'GP' they will do a test and prescribe him the right tablet [probably quarantine him as well for good measures]

don't know if they have universal healthcare in Germany though but i think most visitors/students get insurance before travelling
