My Father in heaven I still pray you give delta state a man that is half as competent as Fashola not the demon whose three point agenda is himself, wife and daughter. weel might be the first of its kind in West Africa, fact is this along with others in Nigeria or lets say Lagos can be compiled for maybe a Season in African/lagos Development 3 years down the line, i just hope they are documenting these things, even a local broadcasting company can use it AjanleKoko: Is this bridge going to be tolled? Onlytruth: Let us assume for a second that Dora AKunyili defected to ACN instead of APGA, I can assure you that 95% of her critics here would be singing her praises to high heavens.
Her only crime is that she chose to return to her true political base, the only base that can support her and allow her to speak her mind when she gets to the national assembly. She is the brave type and I can imagine how difficult it must have been for her to not speak her mind all these while. Senate is the perfect ground for her to show her true mettle and learn practical politics in preparation for one day when she runs for an executive office -Governor or President. Actually if she defected to ACN in that state then perhaps i might consider her brave (still don't make sense though) BUT SHE IS JOINING A WINNING PARTY WITH ESTABLISHED POLITICAL SUPPORT AND STRUCTURE!!! nahhhhhhhhhh brave people don't have a problem speaking their mind, she is certainly not brave just a follow the crowd hear her own voice kind of person!! someone that has time to talk about the word 'naija' (after spending millions on jingles) certainly shouldnt have a problem speaking her mind She can show her true mettle by contesting on the platform of the PDP- at least we'll now have two people in modern nigeria that got the easy/accidental ride to the top GEJ and Madam Dora If the APGA put forward a presidential candidate will she be campaigning for him/her? Will she be expecting the PDP not to field a candidate in that district? |

We all know whats obtainable abroad unless we do not want to be sincere with ourselves. how are you sure they don't have a big mansion in the poshest parts of Nigeria built from the proceed of their crime? probably with many employed 'agents' with dazzling offices up and down the country do you really want these crooks in nigeria? Do you really see any of these guys moving back home any time soon? |

Yes o, atleast he failed honourably, he didn't abandon ship even though he is 'popular' with all the usual PhDs they carry for head like say na only dem dey go school
Why is she and her supporters suddenly expecting her to get and easy ride afterall they accuse other people doing this of chop chop politics, she is still in good terms with the PDP so why cant she test her popularity at the polls with the ruling party
I know ministers don't really influence bills but she has been unable to push for anything concentrate just blab all over the place and shed tears chasing shadows in the name of casper cabals

Jarus: AJK, I agree with what wrote up there about JO, TE and FA,, but I will not agree Mike is a outright proxy. I agree IBB has interest in his Business but we must not forget that before the man knew IBB during the oil bloc largesse of early 90's, he was already a successful businessman. And he was in his 30's then. The fact is if you're rich to a certain extent, you ignore presidential cooperation to your peril - that is political economy, anyway.
On Tony, I think the guy deserves great respect. He became CEO of a fast-growing bank, STB, in his early 30's. This is a great record if we recall that he is not the child of any Subomi Balogun or Mike Adenuga or Yinka Folawiyo. He rose to CEOship(founded the bank, actually) purely on his own.
Same for FA when he co-founded GTB in 1990 in his thirties too.
These guys are no doubt corporate gurus that never rode on the crest of any family to achieve what tehy achieved. This is not to entirely say those that had silver-spoon background but made it are less genius(Wale Tinubu and co). It takes more than lineage to succeed in Business. You can ask Abiola's children. Doing what? |

Politics › Re: Bayelsa: Is This State Developing At All? by DisGuy(op): 11:45pm On Dec 15, 2010 |
Even though the community we visited is a four-minute boat ride from Yenagoa, there was no sign of infrastructure in it. The boats we rode on were very old and shaky while the stinking river also served as a refuse dump. Community members had no access to pipe borne water and so most of them depended entirely on the brownish and heavily polluted water from the river with the unbearable stench coming from it. I saw them bath with it, drink from it, brush their teeth with it and take some home for cooking.
This is the reality in a community exactly fifteen minutes from Creek Haven, the seat of power in oil-rich Bayelsa State. Yenagoa mainland, the state capital, has literally become a theatre of abandoned projects. What a tragedy!
For those who do not know, Bayelsa is one of the beneficiaries of the thirteen percent derivation from oil revenue allocation at source from the federal government. Indeed some months ago, the Governor of the state, Timipre Sylva, admitted to the CNN that the state receives at least thirty million dollars (about 4.5 billion naira) every month. This excludes any internally generated revenue.
Lately, the state government has been accused of financial recklessness and mindless profligacy. Several petitions have been written by citizens of the state to anti-corruption agencies alleging forms of petty and grand corruption. Individuals believed to be close to the governor including his former commissioner of finance, Sylva Opuola Charles (now at large), have been charged by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission for laundering more than 6 billion naira worth of public resources.
Paradoxically, Bayelsa State is the only state in Nigeria that is implementing the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) at the state level. The Bayelsa Expenditure and Income Transparency Initiative (BEITI), is a multi -stakeholder initiative inaugurated by the Sylva government and supported by the US based Revenue Watch Institute (RWI). Sources in Yenagoa and even within the BEITI secretariat confirm that it is a failed public relations project.
In terms of human population, Bayelsa State is the smallest of the 36 states in Nigeria (population of 1.7 million in 2006). In the 2008 boom year Bayelsa State received about N116 billion, roughly three times the national average, from the centre. The state depends entirely on oil revenue and has a paltry 2 percent of internally generated revenue. Per capita allocations were over 10 times higher than those in Kano State. One will naturally think that a combination of low population and high revenue will produce development.
The last Nigerian Living Standards Survey shows that more than 90 percent of Bayelsans are still poor. The World Bank Doing business report 2010 indicates that Bayelsa is the most difficult place to start business in Nigeria due mainly to bureaucratic harassment, insecurity and other issues.
Until recently, 11,132 unidentified persons drew salaries from government coffers showing that corruption might have been elevated to state policy. http://234next.com/csp/cms/sites/Next/Home/5652970-182/story.csp |
